This looks familiar.. How large is that mech? It really does remind me of a TechTown drone, though I'm beginning to suspect that I'm the only one who prefers mech 'swarms' over walking tanks and weapons platforms.

A Crusader in both Urban and Desert Camouflage Respectively.

The Crusader is a multi-purpose, high-mobility infantry fighting vehicle, colloquially referred to as a "mech" by humans, standing at between two to three meters (depending on configuration). It is bipedal vehicle piloted by a single operator that is designed to bridge the gap between an infantryman's mobility and an IFV's firepower, with historically variable results. Nearly two centuries of continuous research, testing, and combat have refined the Crusader design from that of an Intolerable War era Golem into a formidable weapons system ideal for urban combat, particularly for building-to-building and other rough-terrain combat.

The currently-employed form of the Crusader mech is a jack-of-all-trades support/assault weapon, used alternately to support infantry in the field, to screen armor, or to launch close-quarters assaults in urban/space environments. Squads of Crusaders are often deployed as hunter-killer teams in urban environments, assaulting and harassing enemy formations and striking at targets of opportunity, and pilots are trained to be flexible, aggressive, and independent.

The Crusader's greatest advantage is also its greatest weakness. As a jack-of-all-trades, it is a master of none and cannot provide the same level of fire support as a dedicated IFV or the assault firepower of a dedicated tank. It is also ill-suited for open field combat; outside of urban environments a Crusader is little more effective than dismounted infantry, and cannot last long in a pitched battle against armor and air cavalry units. As a result, the Crusader is generally restricted to urban engagements; most Crusaders are deployed via cutting edge magical teleportation technology and airborne insertion alongside units of the Confederate Marine Corps into urban hotspots.

Advanced armatures and limbs allow a Crusader a range of movement only slightly more restricted than that of an infantryman. Pilots are fully-sealed within the Crusader, controlling it via a second set of arm and leg attachments connected to the primary arms and legs. External data is presented in a fully three-dimensional holographic display inside the cockpit, allowing the pilot a full-range of vision and input from multiple sensors, making it difficult to catch a wary pilot off-guard. The mech is powered by a sealed alchemical engine and features a set of thrusters to allow for easier movement.

Like most Sanian designs, the current generation of Crusader possesses a highly modular construction. Weapons systems and other gear can be swapped out quickly and easily within a few minutes thanks to modern parts interchangeability and miniaturization technology. A Crusader can switch from being an anti-armor ambusher with dedicated cannons to an anti-aircraft platform with guided missiles to an assault vehicle with grenade launchers and rapid-fire heavy machine guns in the span of a few hours. This modularity came as a result of ongoing operations in the Badlands of Noranda and the Unincorporated Territories, where the previous generations of Crusaders experienced rapid cases of wear-and-tear and were difficult to repair due to their specialized parts, resulting in "Frankenstein" mechs built from cobbled-together equipment.

The Saurisian military employs a number of Mechs. However, it should be noted that we call them Walkers, instead of just plain old Mechs. These different Walkers all fulfill different purposes.

First, there's the M91 Medium Walker, designed to aid and support the troops as well as being a general battle Walker

Then, there's the M60 sapient-portable walker, intended to give adequate support to infantry, they're smaller and weaker than other walkers.

There's the M100 Heavy Assault Walker, designed to carry troops as well as lead an assault against enemy-held strongholds and cities:

Image

We are also testing a new Heavy Walker, the XM6 Majungasaurus, designed to conduct heavy assaults on the enemy and unleash a punishing barrage of fire on hostile forces:

Image

There's another Walker also enduring testing, the XM11 Wyvern Light Assault Walker, designed to be lighter and faster than vehicles like the M91 and the M73 but more durable and powerful than the M60 as well as giving the pilot better protection. The vehicle is slated to enter service in 2825.

Image

Then, there are specialized walker models, like the M5A1 Cobra, a small lightweight missile platform capable of launching a lethal barrage of homing missiles at designated targets

Image

As well as the Mark 16 Construction Walker, used both by the Military and the private sector:

Finally, there's the M19 Eustreptospondylus, a mobile anti-air vehicle equipped with powerful blaster cannons and missile launchers perfectly capable of taking down low-flying fighters and bombers as well as gunships and dropships

I did a search and there was only posts in different threads about this, none being too detailed about the mech itself. Not surprising seeing as how the only real information you can find is on the website of Suidobashi Heavy Industries itself where they sell it online.

http://www.theverge.com/2012/12/3/3722592/kuratas-robot-iron-giant-four-ton-mech

SPECS(released so far):
Height : about 4,000 mm / Width: about 3,000 mm / Length : about 4,000 mm / Weight : about 4,500 kg(4.4 tons)
Control system : "AE V-sido"/ Speed: 12-16 MPH(24 MPH is rumored)

Basically, I wanted to know what this mechanized robot could do. As a roleplayer, I instantly wanted to make this a part of my police force/military if I could. The mech was made for civilian use, and I had read from previous NS thread before that the use of mechs for military combat wasn't practical. But I wanted to see for myself how far it could be taken in terms of combat goes(at least theoretically).
For offensive capabilities, I used what little data was available on the KURATAS mech to find out what type of weapons it could wield(there isn't a detailed report out yet from on it's capabilities as far as weaponry is concerned). After crunching the numbers what the hydraulic systems and arms could handle in terms of stress from muzzle energy, recoil velocity, gun weight, bullet weight of firearms I grinned at what it could handle. Suffice to say it can handle heavy machine guns like M2HB .50-caliber MG and rounds like the .50 BMG with relative comfort/ease. If you wanted too,You could also go as far as adding 30mm cannons(used on Apaches and anti-aircraft guns. DON'T expect to be adding any handheld RPGs, or heavy cannons like the 120mm smoothbore used on main battle tanks though). You could add grenade launchers too, and flamethrowers. Basically anything short of missile launchers and tank cannons. For melee it's hands could crush and rip apart human beings with ease(the power of this thing is NUTS), and it can punch through concrete walls on a good day(theoretically). Though I would use like Dual-wielding chainsaw swords to just cut through everything(note that Chainsaw swords are FanT, not MT).

Additionally it's control system would make it an accurate shot, and make it to where any clueless civilian could use it if they got control of it. It can be remote controlled with an Iphone, so the user won't be put in harm's way.

The Defense(like armor) is worth mentioning too. As far as I can tell, the creator of this mech DID have the safety of the user in mind when making it. The best thing to note is that an internal/external fire control systems can be added, and that the cockpit/front is bombproof. It appears to be constructed of at least 2 inches of steel all-around(a strong metal which regular bullets have trouble going through). As far as I know you can may be able add on to that steel with HEAT & ERA meshes in certain spots. It can be customized, so I can imagine you can add stuff like smoke screens and decoy flares for countermeasures against guided missiles. So basically, don't throw a single molotov/hand grenade at the front of this mech, or fire one 30-round clip of regular 7.62 ammunition at it and expect it to die. That is VERY unlikely to happen.

What can it be used for?

In terms of roleplaying for your nation or anything else, the KURATAS is best used in urban environments or for defense purposes. It would be PERFECT for a police force. Your police could use it in riots, or your army could use it in civil wars or rebellions to crush lightly-armed resistance fighters, or even terrorists. For wars and military combat, again I say to use it in urban areas or for defense. The KURATAS can hide within a city more easily than a tank/APC can, making it an excellent tool for ambushes. The KURATAS could also be used against light vehicles like Humvee with SOME effectiveness(stick to just mowing down infantry though)

I DO NOT advise using it in the open battlefield or the country. Sure, it can be a good tool against infantry and even light vehicles(Humvee, military trucks/logistic vehicles), but being out in the open ground makes it exposed. I also do not advise using it against tanks, APCs, or airplanes. Basically if it has anything like a 120mm cannon, a GAU, or even a .50 HMG I would advise you avoid confrontation when using the KURATAS in battle.

How can you beat it?

Heavy armor(tanks/APC), airplanes, even attack helicopters(although the KURATAS could take helicopters out if the mech pilot is skilled enough) shoudl make quick work of the KURATAS. RPGs and rocket launchers can work too, although weaker rocket launchers and missiles you may need to use 2-3 rounds.

If you have infantry armed with only assault rifles/snipers/LMGs and hand grenades and you're going against the KURATAS, the best option would be to FLANK it and attack from behind, or attack the hydraulics underneath and just behind the arms. It's engine or power source is going to be located on it's back and much of the hydraulic pumps will be behind it as well. In the prototype model there was no protection for the engine/hydraulics, so at most there should only be a little protection added on to it like a baking sheet thickness of steel. If you can get behind it that's the best time to throw a grenade or molotov at it, also to pour your clip of ammo into it. It's also possible with armor-piercing ammo to be able to attack it head on, but you'd have to get close to it(maybe within 300 meters, the effective range of an AKM-47)

So, for anybody that's been wanting to have mechs in roleplaying, but is an MT nation now you can. Just use it wisely.

Finally, a mech that may be used In Modern Tech settings. Don't you just love technology?

Don't want to be "that guy" in this thread, but here goes anyway:

As cool as this is, it's top speed is only six miles an hour, meaning an infantryman could outsprint it. Even with that fixed, I'm not seeing anything it can do that an APC couldn't do better. That said, it's probably worth showing to the MT realism thread if for no other reason than to wind them up while maybe getting some more in-depth feedback. :)

Our most common mech, the Ilyushin IC-76.
Lightly armored, but fast and meant for hit-and-run attacks on the enemy.
Armament:10 missile pods holding 4 Artemis missiles each. 1 repeating plasma cannon, capable of a 1000 bpm(Bolts Per Minute) rate of fire.
Top speed is 80 miles an hour, using an advanced computer and hydraulics system.
