We wouldn't - largely because slavery's illegal in CL.
Please note: Central Lothian is the direct successor to Mid Lothian*. As a result, I am still called Rebecca, I am still a Grammar Nazi and most information pertaining to ML also applies to CL (although I will be taking this time to change a few things).

* - And I may refer to the country as Mid Lothian. If I do, assume that I mean Central Lothian. (And not to be confused with "Midlothian" - I'm using that as a fascist version of CL.)

Slavery is common in middle- to upper-class families, with most wealthy households employing between five and ten domestic servants.

While domestic servants are technically paid for their duties (mostly in room and board, with some pocket money) they are not free to leave their employ until their contract is up and are often treated as second-class citizens.

Whilst Bethmorans have no particular law or qualms about keeping slaves, a slave can not be bought only won. So if a Bethmoran wants to make a creature into a slave then they will fight them for possession, if they loose they are seen as weak and therefore it is accepted. if the one wanting the slave is defeated they will then become slave. But slaves are dangerous and there are no laws against a slave killing their master, it is almost expected. it is not particularly common anymore as it is often less hassle to simply pay for a servant plus it often ends with lots of bloodshed.

The higher class of the Grand Empire of Esiadin employs servants of different varieties. The most common is for private use, known amongst the nobility by their sugar coated term 'Pleasure Companions'. However, the true name is not so kind; sex slaves are a large import for much of the royalty, including young men and women aging from 14-23. (There have been some cases where individuals have taken children as young as 11, but investigations are either suddenly halted, or they look the other way). Many are taken from surrounding countries, either by force and secrecy, or by suitable payment. There are rare occurences where citizens of the Grand Empire are used as 'Pleasure Companions' but this is not often seen, and even less heard of.

Citizens of the Grand Empire who have become servants are well paid for their services and treated with respect and kindness despite their seemingly low status, however foreigners (what few border customs allows through) are made into genuine slaves. The claim is that they are paid with room and board, clothes and a meal every day, and that they have no need of coin in a country that despises them anyway. Further claim is that they are kept safe from the intolerance of the Empire as a whole, and are told repeatedly that if they were to walk out of their duties into the cities of the Empire, they would be robbed, raped and torn to shreds. Fear for many is enough to keep them in line, however there are a few in every batch that are continuously rebellious and mouthy. These are beaten into swift submission, but if they cannot abide obedience, they are taken outside, shot and dumped into a gutter.

Slavery was always used in Besate since foundation days (millennia ago), and this market has reached a new high when a colony was founded in another continent permitting new slaves.

Anyway, the king is thinking about the abolishment of this activity.
