Mourro's National Election Day Conference

Postby Mourro » Sat Dec 24, 2011 8:03 am

For the attention of our diplomatic partners and potential partners,

The Republic of Mourro will hold its National Election as part of the annual National Election Day. Although the Purple Party has governed the Republic in some way or other since the democratic transaction began, the Purple Party now faces new challenges from uniquely different parties who wish to transform Mourro and its future along completely different lines of agenda.

As a democratic and just government we, the Purple Party, invite our diplomatic partners and those who may wish to become partners to attend a conference on the coming election. It will not only be a chance for our partners to directly question the Prime Minister about affairs that have happened in the past two years since Mourro's 'Opening', but it will also serve as an opportunity for partners to lay down their governments' agenda and expectations of Mourro.

Should the government of Mourro change, partners will need to adapt their agenda to the various manifestos that will be laid out before them tomorrow. It is also crucial that partners establish whether a change in government could be profitable or hindering to their respective governments, and so attendance is highly encouraged.

The diplomatic conference expects to welcome the attendance of the ambassadors:-

Danny Era of the United Island Kingdom of Khytenna;
Korey Cornelius of Oiseaui;
Heinrich Fischer of Strebedia;
Pack Ardri Aerhin of Sidh Ohn;
Andreas Mòrag of h-Alba;
A50911 of Lemonius.

Representatives of Monavia are also expected to attend, a nation hotly awaited by the public.

We invite representatives too from Chenmorya and Shrilland, though embassies representing those countries do not yet exist in Mourro.

Mourron ambassadors Alaisa Nord, Arabo del Zah, Botan Shiko, Corala Flora, Jonathan Felisio, Mark James Omaro, Thomas Rouge, and Samuel Voy will also be attending.

Finally, as Mourro is most gratefully a part of the Novan continent, we invite all Novan leaders to attend, whether they have or have not already established diplomatic relations with Mourro.

Other nations who wish to attend should first fill out an Embassy Application before being admitted. The Mourron government looks to also reciprocate this.

We thank you in advance and dearly await your attendance,

Many regards,

Rena Terra, Minister for International Relations

The Diplomatic Office, The Quadros.

With no Ambassador officially sent yet, Orange Blossom was sent as Secretariat of Foreign Affairs to represent the SPF at the Conference. He came in a Plane, thinking that a Pegasus Chariot might be too conspicuous for the occasion, and landed in the Capital without much difficulty.

Dear Linda Jordad,

Thank you for the information. Seats have been prepared for the Chairmen at our Conference Tower in the Quadros.

We assume that Danny Era is making his way from Balari Street to the Quadros for the conference. I also hope that Chairman Jasper Blakewood enjoys his visit to Mourro.

Sincerely,

Rena Terra, Minister for International Relations.

Rena Terra came towards the plane to greet the Shrilland delegation.

"Mr. Blossom, we welcome you with great pleasure to the Quadros, our Purple Party's government headquarters. The conference will be held in the Conference Tower. Do tell me Sir, does your government intend on establishing an embassy on Balari Street? It would be of great benefit to the both of us, I'm sure!"

The Bblagus Corpus* officers were checking the plane to see if it conformed to Mourron standards of total environmental friendliness. Unfamiliar with the particular model, they thought it good to take photographs and do some research back in the Red Bunker*.

OOC: Bbalgus Corpus is the name for Mourro's national police force, and the Red Bunkers are their small stations, stationed on almost every street to protect and coordinate on a local basis.

"Indeed we are," Orange Blossom said, "We haven't gotten it set up only because we've had a backlog of Embassy Applications to file. I'll be glad to head to the Conference. And by the way.." He looked sidelong at the Bbalagus Corpus officers, "The plane uses Fossil Fuels I'm afraid. Our Hydrogen Plane is currently under repairs, and I couldn't find a suitable substitute."

Our Hydrogen Plane is currently under repairs, and I couldn't find a suitable substitute."

Though Rena was a little disappointed that the Shrilland representative had not known of Mourro's pro-environment policies and psyche, she brushed away the emotive and maintained her welcoming professionalism.

"Yes, I'm sure we can arrange for an embassy to be established very soon. In the mean time, allow me to escort you to the Vetting Centre. You and your delegation will go through a small security procedure, and then you will be guided to the Vetting Island station of our underground train system. The train will have you arrive in the capital within ten minutes. I do hope you enjoy your visit here, Mr. Blossom! I will remain here for a while to greet our other visitors, but in the meantime please do join the Mourron ambassador to Strebedia, Alaisa Nord."

A slim, curvy woman of surprising youth walked over in such a casual way that it seemed she had travelled to all of the embassies in the world, and was somehow so used to the lifestyle. In reality, Alaisa had only been working in Strebedia for about a year, but had great interest in the country. She was particularly interested in Strebedia's early 20th century transition from a republican nation to a monarchic one within an incredibly short time. Naturally, Alaisa held a strong passion for history in general, and would most likely talk in detail with the Shrilland delegate in order to probe her curiosities of this very unknown nation.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Blossom," she smiled, offering to shake Mr. Blossom's hand, "It is a wonder, your simply being here! I should have many questions to ask about your nation on the train to Saint Arthur's City!"

Aides came along to usher Alaisa Nord and Mr. Blossom to the Vetting Centre, and Alaisa eagerly awaited to hear this man from a land she knew nothing of speak. Though Mourrons of course spoke Mourron, they were very talented in foreign languages. Alaisa could also speak English, Latin and German, though she was unsure as to which language would be the lingua franca for their conversation...

"And I have many to ask of yours," Orange Blossom replied, "First one I have to ask is, are you all right with a fellow delegate coming from one of the new Pony-led nations?" He said with a laugh. "Also, I've studied your nation, as I've studied many in my time, and your history fascinates me." They headed towards the vetting centre for whatever processes then needed to undertake with the aides.

Though Samuel Voy had been working in Khytenna at the Mourron embassy for quite some time now, he had found it saddening that he had not yet had a good meeting with Danny Era, his Khytennan counterpart.

Samuel had flown in from Khytenna a day after being told about the conference. Today was a very tense day for the Purple Party, and it would be essential for diplomats to get together and anticipate a potential government upheaval.

Waiting by the Quadros* entrance to greet Mr. Era, Samuel Voy was checking his silver watch constantly and wondering how his local Khytennan lingo would be judged. He had met and worked with many Khytennans, though, and some of his relatives were taking part in the Mourro-Khytenna international school exchange programme.

Sleek, stocky and with shoulder-length black hair, Samuel wore a brown cashmere jumper and had a charcoal trench coat hung over one arm. Though it was winter in Mourro, the weather did not seem to be dipping below fifteen degrees this year. He asked an aide to bring him warm teas and coffees, expecting Mr. Era to arrive at any moment.

OOC: *Please keep in mind: The Vetting Centre is where the airport for arrivals is. The Quadros is a few miles away in the capital city (Saint Arthur's City), and it is the Purple Party's headquarters. The Conference Tower where the conference will be held is in the Quadros.

Intrigues as to what this man meant by "pony-led", Alaisa asked "What is this group of nations you speak of? I can't say I've had the fortune to hear about it. I suppose I work too hard abroad to keep up with the news coming into Mourro. I expect that our government has some inkling though, although I would love to know more!"

Alaisa's hair was tied-up and a dusty blonde colour, and she was wearing a light pink winter coat with bold black buttons. She also carried a simple black oblong handbag.

"What in particular interests you about Mourron history, Mr. Blossom? May I also ask you to tell me a little about the Shrilland Royal Family?"

The Bblagus Corpus asked the Shrilland delegate to surrender any illegal items and passed Mr. Blossom through security. Guests were also handed "Welcome To Mourro!" or "Welcome Back To Mourro!", depending on the status of the guest.

Orange Blossom had examined his pockets to see if he had any contraband, having studied the Prohibited items in Mourro. Thankfully there were none, and he continued, "Well many nations including ours are led by Pastel-coloured talking Ponies, and this has been a trend since earlier this year. There is even an organistion of these nations called the Coalition of Ponyist States or CoPS. Shrillland is one of it's key members. We're still Democracies, Oligarchies, Dictatorships or Monarchies, we just have a large number of these Ponies as well."

"As for our royal family, they were all executed back in 1991, at the end of the Revolution that formed our predecessor nation, the USSS. We have since been a Democracy, with the exception of the Unholy time, but that was so short we don't like to count it."

Rather bewildered and fascinated at the same time by such a government that could be led by ponies, Alaisa smiled and guided Mr. Blossom to the Vetting Station where they would board the underground train.

"As you will come to know shortly, Mourro is very fond of horses, dedicating many cultural arts and emblems to the animal. We even consider it a key part of Mourron philosophy and ethics. Unfortunately, we don't have species of pony as great as in Shrilland to manage an entire country. It is simply remarkable! I would love to see photographs of these ponies! But may I ask, how do these ponies interact with humans? What are the dynamics like between them? How did a non-human species come to assume such a high role? I expect there is some level of harmony in Shrilland, for you do not appear to be a pony, Mr. Blossom."

The wide, clean peach escalator took them down into the underground station, and all around them were Bbalgus Corpus advertisements recruiting officers, information on travel and tourist destinations, and pictures of Mourron singers and actors who were taking part in the Mourron National Election Day musical festivities.

Long golden bar lights hung high from the stretching ceilings, and when they reached the bottom a metallic train striped with pink and silver was just pulling into the platform. A few other tourists were waiting with luggage and excited faces.

Bbalgus Corpus officers too boarded to ensure that security would be in order. After all, important diplomats and government officials were riding public transport. There seemed to be an absence of a more private escort this time, perhaps indicating the Purple Party's intense stress in preparing to challenge uprising parties who had election candidates more enigmatic than ever before.

As they boarded and sat down in rather industrial steel seats with black cushions, Alaisa Nord asked "So who is deemed the 'leader' of Shrilland? Do tell me a little of his personality, popularity and such. Would he or she also need to be a pony?"

Seamus Ceannt got off of the small airliner, ready to begin his latest assignment, albeit reluctantly. The 5 hour flight in economy class had done his mood no favors. He hailed down the next taxi. "Government buildings please" he said in a hushed tone. a short drive later and Ceannt was fixing his tie, trying to remember if he had brought all of his documents in the suitcase by his side.

He was just inside the door when the receptionist recognized him. "You must be the Republican man", she said happily. "Correct". "Right this way Sir, our diplomat Thomas Rouge is waiting". He was led into a lovely warm wooden paneled office.

Rouge was a very friendly man. Ceannt had explained that the circumstances surrounding the independence of his nation were dire, they were effectively a phoenix rising from the ashes. Rouge could sympathise to an extent. Ceant then proceeded to get down to business.

"So, Mr. Rouge, tell me, what is Mourro in you eyes, and what is the Purple Party in Relation to Mourro?"

Still, the Dynamics are fairly well, as there have never been any serious conflicts between the races. "So, Mr. Rouge, tell me, what is Mourro in you eyes, and what is the Purple Party in Relation to Mourro?"

OOC: Just to confirm understanding, Thomas Rouge is the Mourron ambassador to Oiseaui (you can view who is ambassador to where in the Factbook). Rouge would not know Seamus or anything much about the country Seamus represents, though he is appointed to accompany arrivals to the Quadros. It should be a good dialogue to get to know each other's nation!!

Thomas Rouge was glad to meet another ambassador, even if he knew very little about the Poblacht Nua na hEireann government. As his name rather suggested, Thomas Rouge was the son of a prominent red-haired family from Saint Arthur's City's generation of stock market managers. His family was indeed very rich, though Thoma's passions veered more toward international harmony rather than domestic economics. After all, anyway, through his diplomatic actions he could perhaps foster new investments into the Mourron economy.

Tall and wearing his brown winter coat, he reached out to shake hands with and greet Seamus.

"A pleasure to meet you, Mr Ceannt." he beamed, taking a step across the office floor.

Rather taken-aback by the sudden questions upon their first few minutes of encounter, Thomas nodded and held his hands behind his back inoffensively.

"Well, why don't we discuss this on the train to Sain Arthur's? I'm sure you have many questions, and there are a good ten minutes to kill on the way."

He led Seamus out of the office and toward the Vetting Office, where Seamus would be cleared by the Bbalgus Corpus officers awaiting them.

"As for Mourro in my eyes," he turned, smiling while walking, "Mourro is of course a really modest nation. We are not a people who tend to brag or show off some military might. Nor would we ever dream of starting any wars. But even so, we have one of the most excellent eduction systems, that sees almost every child speaking several languages and learning several special skills, and we do have an incredible health system which is mostly free for most people. Oh, and I shouldn't forget Mourro's appreciation for liberty and freedom of speech. As you may know also, we are a magical country, though I myself am not very good at it. Our magical culture and diverse historical heritage is something I am very proud of.

And, well, the Purple Party is the governing party I work for of course, and it has been Mourro's ruling party since the notion of a 'party' ever began. It faces a few challenges now though, but in my eyes the Purple Party is the truest representation of the power shares that act as the engine of Mourro.

I should now also ask you a question then, Mr. Ceannt: why does your country carry such a long name? And what does it mean? Do also tell me a little bit about your government's style of rule. I'm curious to know who pulls the levers of such a Republic as yours!"

"What a pretty name, to be named Rarity! Do tell me about Rarity's personality. Is she popular with the people? Our Prime Minister has much of the admiration of the Mourron public. Oh, yes, we've never been governed by a non-human species, but magic has influenced much of modern Mourron politics. Even today there are certain conflicts between those who practise more magic, and those who prefer to discourage it for a more 'modern' or 'civilised' lifestyle. I myself don't particularly mind magic, it can be wonderful to look at after all."

The train arrived at the station: The Quadros Park Station. An huge, idyllic park was revealed as they left the station to be at ground level. The day was sunny and the sky was a little blue, despite it being winter in Mourro. A beautiful elephant statue made of white porcelain sprayed spring water into the air, and around it were park benches, picnickers and a few squirrels scurrying around here and there, quite accustomed to human presence. There were many footpaths in this park, but a general stream of people seemed to head forward, past the elephant fountain and across a yellow gravel path. Most of the people headed up or down the path were suited and carried suitcases or small handbags. At the end of this path were the silver gates to this particular park entrance, and a street across from the gates was the heavily-guarded entrance to the Quadros grounds. One of the sky-scraping towers of the Quadros was also visible, with its blacked-out windows creating a sheen of mystique.

"Welcome to Saint Arthur's City, Mr. Blossom!"

Ceannt considered his response carefully. "Well, the explanation behind our name goes deep into our history," he began, "Long before i was born, about 70 years ago, the first Poblacht na hEireann, Eire for short, was formed in the midst of oppression by an outside power for centuries beforehand. When the empire fell apart, we took our chance all those years ago and started our own, free, parliament for the first time ever [OOC-loosely based on modern Ireland.] It was all going well for around 70 years, but then we were dragged into a very unjust and immoral war by a treaty coalition which we were obliged to honor. As a result of the huge disagreement, a civil war broke out, the country was destroyed and we formed this new Republic, Poblacht Nua na hEireann from the ashes of the first republic." And so completed the answer to the first part of the question put to him, the satisfaction was evident on his face.

"Now, i will describe to you the ruling Republican Party. This party is drenched in the ideals of liberty, equality and fraternity. We aim to give liberty to all of our citizens, to keep far away from oppression. We strive to make all people equal regardless of race, gender or creed. and finally, we want brotherhood to exist in our nation. Even though a civil war is not long over, we are all on the same side now and we would like to heal the wounds as quickly as possible. We are the party that has taken power, but elections are planned as soon as the security of the state is ensured, which will be very soon.

Our leader and the President of the country is John Traynor, who fought in the civil war and was the most charismatic of our leaders. He holds little power however, the real power is in parliament, where there are a few main parties. Ourselves, the Socialists and Labor party are the biggest. The National Socialist party once existed but they were banned after there extreme racist views came to light.

Traynor's cabinet consists of, among other things, finance, defense and education. These are the three most important portfolio's right now as we strive to establish this country on the world stage. Now, if you have any more questions i will be happy to answer."

Ceannt looked up but Rouge was very busy taking notes. Ceannt had a little chuckle to himself when he realized how fast he had been talking, this came across as a wry smile between the two men from across the table.

"Quite popular with most people since the Civil War, and a magic user herself," Orange Blossom said as he looked up to the building with blacked out windows," You see she's part of the sub-species of Unicorns that are able to practice a kind of magic themselves, not the kind that your peoples are capable of, but Magic nonetheless. She's a reasonable leader, willing to listen to anyone with a good idea, and she used to own and design a fashion label before entering politics."

Just then the report came to him of the momentous news of the change of government.

The Ohn Delegation arrived without much aplomb, the organizers of the event having been forwarned to expect them, though not their method of arrival; they simply rode in... Many people shied away from the giant wolf-like creatures that inevitably accompanied the Ohn, but forwarned it forarmed as they say and so no panic ensued, even though the Ohn were fully armed and armored; this was just the Ohn way and they meant no threat or offence by it they were told. One of the riders dismounted as they approached, left her weapons (excpet for the large knife at her hip) with her companion-mount, removed her warmask, and approached the other delegates and, smiling widely to all, Pack Ardri Aerhin of Sidh Ohn looked at those assembled, giving each the disturbing impression that she was sizing them up. She was tall with an athletic warrior's build that her armor could not hide, flaming red hair tousled from the recent ride, pale skin with the strange tattoos the Ohn often adopted, and the slightly pointed ears and amber eyes that were common to her race. She was actually rather beautiful in a hard sort of way, though no less disturbing to the more civilized for it and possibly more so.

She motioned to her "pack" to stay where she had left them and then turned back to the delegates with that wide smile, her canines showing almost gleefuly.

"How go the elections? To be honest, I had hoped that we would meet soon as changes have been taking place in Sidh Ohn as well."

OOC: Is this table on the train then..?

"As you may have found out already, Mourro likes to celebrate its educational excellence. How has the recent Civil War affected education and health resources in your country? Was there an economic recovery or population boom afterwards? Mourro too once had a Civil War, though that was centuries ago."

At the sound of the word 'racism', Thomas had to cringe a little. Mourro had been a homogeneous country for centuries before recently 'opening up' to the rest of the world, and so there was genuinely no notion of 'racism' as far as Mourrons were concerned. Of course, there were provincial 'tensions' at times, but nobody was ever discriminated against because of the colour of their skin or the country they came from.

That didn't mean, however, that Mourrons were joyous bundles of xenophilia, either. Mourrons tended to have their reservations about too much interaction too quickly with other nations. Really, Thomas thought that the people were just afraid of stepping out onto a new stage without any guidance. Not surprising considering Mourro's history. But there were also other powers at work - the Royal Family being the heart of them.

Thomas had naturally studied racism and a few countries' civil rights histories, and so was not going to criticise Seamus' country's problems. Instead, he asked:

"What do you think your government's main aims for the New Year are?"

Just then the report came to him of the momentous news of the change of government.

"A new party after all these centuries. How different Mourro will be."

Alaisa Nord was also told of the news as aides came over to let everyone know the results of the Election.

She nodded and said something quietly to herself.

"Well, I must say I'm happy that at least the Red Hills Class won. They're not interested in changing the ambassadors or shuffling much of the Diplomatic Office. Indeed an exciting time then!"

She guided Mr. Blossom across the busy road via a large zebra crossing, and before them stood a group of Silver Corporation journalists and photographers. Through the thick barred gates, Nord and Blossom could see horses and soldiers wearing purple, and beyond huge purple banners and flags were being taken down.

There seemed to be a little commotion in front of the gates, as everyone wanted to get the latest update on how Former Prime Minister Stephanie Black was feeling, where she'd go now that she's out, whether she'd get another political role, etc etc.

Alaisa showed her ID and indicated the foreign delegation with her.

The Bblagus Corpus officer looked at her, with a frown and a grumpy bottom lip that quivered as he thought.

"Madam, your Party has been dissolved, in case you didn't know" he said proudly, ever the authoritative Bblagus Corpus officer, "but luckily for your diplomats none of you are affected. But no Purples will be attending any conference today."

Alaisa nodded and gave a polite, "Very well. Will the new Prime Minister be attending?"

The gates were opened by a couple of other Bbalgus Corpus officers, and now a couple of journalists turned to Mr. Blossom to ask who he was, though it was uncertain as to whether he'd understand or answer their strong Saint Arthur's City accent.

"The Prime Minister may attend, but how should I know that? I'm just a gate guard after all. You should ask your seniors once you're in. A good day and a good new era for the both of you!"

The officer clapped his hands rejoicingly as Alaisa and Mr. Blossom were ushered in onto the Quadros grounds. Aides had been waiting on the other side, slightly nervous, slightly confused, perhaps stressed also.

One of them, who looked very young, said to Alaisa, "Ms Nord, if you would care to follow me and to bring our guests. I trust that the other guests will arrive a little later. The conference will go ahead, but you should know that a Red Hills Class Party representative will be attending and representing the new government. Your position as ambassador of course still remains."

The Quadros was a massive place spanning around twenty miles in all, and so to get between the Four Towers one would usually board the electric mini buses that whizzed around the grounds day and night. A special bus was waiting for them a little further ahead, and it would probably take around ten minutes to reach the West Tower, besides which the smaller Conference Tower was located.

"Well, we best be on our way, Mr. Blossom," urged Alaisa, "It's very profitable that you came for the conference after all!"

He neatened up his black and white tuxedo, seeing the Sidh Ohn ambassador to Mourro approaching.

"What a great pleasure to meet you, Pack Ardri Aerhin! You must be missing the Arctic Sidh Ohn weather, right? It doesn't snow too often here in the capital. I must say, while you were gone, I've grown quite used to living inside a mountain. I already miss it!"

They greeted appropriately, and a few aides unaware of Sidh Ohn culture flinched behind Omaro, but he laughed casually to try and relieve any tensions caused.

Rolling up a sleeve to check his watch, he revealed a black ink tattoo he had acquired in Sidh Ohn. It was not certain as to whether this was for artistic purposes, diplomatic purposes, or tribal purposes...

"Good news!" he said grinning, "There's a new Party ruling Mourro now. I'll still be the ambassador to Sidh Ohn though, so no worries! We should probably get going too. For the attention of the Rejaina government,

The Minister for International Relations has been changed, due to the Republic of Mourro's recent change in its governing party.

Your delegate/delegation is still welcome to attend our conference, and we ask that for ease of administration that you fill out our embassy application form, and establish an embassy in Saint Arthur's City. The Mourron government will also reciprocate.

We will await your arrival at the Vetting Centre airport.

Many regards,

Hamilton Peters,
New Minister for International Relations.
