The Gull Flag Republic

1 - What is the legal drinking age? No substance laws are enforced

2 - Driving age? There is no government oversight of drivers; individual driving schools reserve the right to deny students of any age

3 - Age of sexual consent? Puberty

4 - Voting age? Twenty-one

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? - Puberty

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal? - No substance laws are enforced

-Pot - see above

- Tobacco - see above

- Cocaine - see above

-Alcohol - see above

- LSD - see above

- Caffeine - see above

- Heroin - see above

- Other? see above

7 - Can people have guns? In theory, all guns are legal. In practice, the government heavily restricts the sale and import of all weapons.

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called
Formal: The Gull Flag Republic of the Iansislean Peoples
Informal: The Gull Flag Republic (GFR)
Citizens: Iansisleans or Shieldians

9 - Do you have the death penalty? Yes

10 - What is the speed limit? There are none

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? In theory, all religions are equal under the law. In practice, the Catholic Church enjoys a variety of tax breaks and tolerations unknown to other sects and religions.

Which of the following are be legal:

12- Porn - Not controlled, but admission to the possession of illicit pictures in high society can cause enormous social pressure.

13-Prostitution - Illegal, but the laws against it are almost never enforced.

14-Polygamy/ Polyandry/ Polyamory - All illegal

15-Homosexuality - Nominally illegal, but enforced extremely rarely

16-Stem cell research -the Republic does not have access to this technology.

17-Human Cloning - As above.

18-Cock Fighting? legal.

19-Slavery? -Serfdom was officially abolished in the sixteenth century and subsequent Iansislean governments have taken great pride in opposing slavery around the world.

20-Hunting? Common and revered. Hunting is seen as a manly way to spend free time and is a primary source of food in some parts of the country.

21-Fishing - As above

22-Eating meat? Vegetarians and vegans are considered unusual.

23-Littering? Enforced with a varying degree of severity depending on socio-economic surroundings.

24-Unisex bathrooms ? Unheard of! Multi-race bathrooms are a relatively recent innovation.

25-Suicide? - Illegal but relatively common

26 - Gay marriage? - Illegal.

27-Abortion - Illegal, but there is a relatively thriving black market in the practice.

28- What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ? Most anything outside of consensual missionary intercourse between a married heterosexual couple. In practice, few sexual laws are enforced.

29-Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? Very much mandatory. Women showing an ankle or a shoulder in public can be considered a scandal.

30-Do you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". - There are thousands of obscenity laws on the book, covering things from cursing in the presence of ladies to offending a government official to public indecency to the sexual crimes described above. Few of the laws are enforced, although social pressures among the ruling classes keep maintain them in the richer areas. Among the urban and rural poor, society is far looser and freer.

31-What system do you have for taxes? Taxes have become increasingly complex. Generally, the system distributes the bulk of taxes onto the richest citizens, a reaction to the tax exemptions enjoyed by those in power before the Revolution. Tend to be generally high because of the huge debts incurred in fighting the Effitian War. Tariffs, income, sales, and property taxes account for most of the income.

31aSales tax? On most luxury goods; tend to be lower on staple products such as milk and wheat.

31bImport/Export tax? Generally high, although there are no trade barriers within the Iansislean Federation.

32-What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? Being of voting age, having lived in the Republic for at least ten years (currently impossible as the Republic has only existed for eight years), and taking a complex test on subjects such as English, Church dogma and the official history of the Republic.. For entrance to the Republic in the first place, strict quotas exist to encourage immigration from "respectable" countries.

33-What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? Any but we reserve the tight to either deport with prejudice or execute any visitors found violating the few laws that have a death penalty. The Dominationre does not extradite those who violate death penalty laws back to their nation of residence/ legal citizenship

34-What type of government are you? Official: Centralized Presidential Republic. De Facto: Centralized Presidential Dictatorship

35-To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? The media is almost completely controlled by the government. Officially, free speech is the law of the land but in practice independent outlets are marginalized or crushed outright by the government.

36-Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example – Iansislean high culture is extremely sexually repressed. However, there is a strong movemnent amongst the young and the poor embracing sex and rock and roll -- drugs, being legal, never achieved the level of counter-culture fame they did in other countries.

Postby The War-Witch of Chey » Thu May 14, 2009 12:36 am

Present to answer some questions about his people, their customs and their ways, is Mongkë Coy’l Isuljin, a warrior of the Chey and cadet brother of the War-Witch of the Chey Ashca Coy’l.

I am he, Mongkë of the Coy’l line, in the Free Chey clan of Isuljin. Know ye this, that of the Chey there are two ilks. There is ourselves the Warrior Chey, the Free Chey, who yet cleave unto the Old Ways as our foreparents did before us. And then, there are the other.

The other? Who are these “other” people?

They are the House Chey, the Lackeys, the servants of Ren, the evil. They who call themselves “the Clean”. Of them I shall speak no more, for between the Cattle of Ren and the Warrior Chey there can be no words; only blood and steel.

Very well, Mongkë. Can you then tell us about the culture of the Free Chey, as you call them?

I will answer your questions, so long as it is honourable to answer.

Alright then, let’s begin.

1 - What is the legal drinking age? Any who wish may partake. Only fools partake overmuch.

2 - Driving age? There is no count of winters for this. No one but a fool would allow one untrained to take the reins of his or her family wain.

3 - Age of sexual consent? This is not counted in winters either. Knowledge and custom dictate that the actions of intercourse not precede the growth of hair upon one’s body and privates.

4 - Voting age? What is this vote of which you speak? I do not know that word.

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? A warrior must prove his or her worth in battle. Only fools undertake takes which they do not know the way of. No one is ever free of their obligations to the lineage, to the tribe and to the Warrior Chey altogether. Not unless they have been cast out.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal? I am not certain what you mean by this. Explain further.

-Pot We have heard, that in the lands far to the west, there are people and creatures who do this odd thing: that they roll bits of shredded leaves up in fragments of rag and wood fibres, put these altogether in their mouths, and then light them on fire! {at this point Mongkë burst out in such a gale of laughter that he rocks to and fro in his chair.}

- TobaccoAs I have already said {pauses to laugh, further} in the far western lands, they call this custom pip-weeding. {he dissolves into further paroxysms of mirth}

- Cocaine I have never heard of this Kó-kane. What is it?

-Alcohol Ah, the Chey are famous for this drink, for we make the finest liquours in the world! Liquour is made from the ferment of milk, honey and certain woodstrands. For some it is the path to paradise, which is called “the land of milk and honey”, but one must beware, for it dulls the senses, slows the hands and makes the rider ill in the saddle.

- LSD I know not of this Ellesty. It sounds like the names of the god-people that fools in the east call vain prayers unto. What can you expect of those who live in houses, though. Madness breeds among them like flies in horse dung.

- CaffeineIt is said among us that the house people, so mad are they to enclose themselves within walls in life, that, not content with this they even must build such walls around their bodies in death. No, no, umn, not “coffin”, “caffeine”, Ka-Feen. Um, well, anyway, moving along.

- HeroinMy elder sister Ashca Coy’l is War-Witch of the tribe of Isuljin as well as of our clan. She has taken the heads of many enemies in battle. She is what your people call “heroine” is she not? {flustered} uhm, we seem to have something of a communication problem, here. Drugs. We’re asking about drugs...

- Other? There are some plants and salts which the shaman use, and others which are the province of the war-witch and war-wizard, but I do not think that you know the names of these. We use them in our ceremonies and as medicines, and some can be made into potions strong enough that might spells may be put into them. These last I will not tell you of, for they are a mickle secret among the Warrior Chey.

7 - Can people have guns? What is “guns”?

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called Formal: Informal: Citizens:We are the Warrior Chey. Our land is the land of the Chey. We live there and none else may live there but by our sufferance. It is our duty to war upon Ren and the house Chey until either they or we are dead, unless the holy prophesy of the Holly King come true ere that time.

9 - Do you have the death penalty?Death is not a penalty among the Fighting Chey. We do not kill each other unless in fair combat on a matter on honour. Any person not of the Warrior Chey may be killed at the will of any warrior, unless another of the Free Chey says him or her nay. That is why outcasting is so great a penalty. Anyone who is outcast from among the Warrior Chey is no longer one of us, and so may be killed at will, as if he were no more than an Asdriag or a dwarf.

10 - What is the speed limit? As fast as your horse may run downhill with a wind behind you.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? There are only two beliefs, the worship of our ancestors and the worship of the Spirits of the Upper Air. Any among the Chey who stray from these risk punishment, but worst of all is the worship of Darkness, as do the priests of Ren. For them is the foulest hatred held. To worship as the House Chey do, to follow the word of Ren, is to declare oneself outcast. None who worship the Dark may be suffered to live.

Which of the following are be legal:

12- Porn What is this “porn” of which you speak? I do not know this thing either.

13-Prostitution It is not the way of the Chey to pay for sex. That must be freely given between one and another. There is nothing of value that a Chey who is hounorable would take for favour they do not wish to give. Not even a fine horse would be enough.

14-Polygamy/ Polyandry/ Polyamory The custom of the Chey is that any may lay with any they wish, so long as all wish it, though it is not considered meet among us that one lay with one so young as to not yet show the signs of adulthood upon the body, nor for kin to lie with close kin, for we know that the ancestors may curse the seed of such unions that the blood my be fouled and the offspring not fit to live.

15-Homosexuality This custom, though uncommon among us, is not seen as any different than the custom that you call “heterosexuality”, save only this, that those who hold this preference at least are encouraged to try with the other sex to have at least one child, that the blood of the tribe not become too thin, for this displeases the ancestors.

16-Stem cell research. {the blank look on the face of Mongkë tells more than his words likely could.}

17-Human Cloning This smells of necromancy, which is a foul thing, of the Darkness and the kith of Ren.

18-Cock Fighting? Why would anyone wish to watch creatures as ridiculous as chickens fight with each other? Chickens are not noble animals. They cannot be herded, nor follow the tribe. They lack the mein of war in their blood. We laugh at House People who think the fighting of chickens is of any value.

19-Slavery?The Free Chey do not keep slaves as a rule. Slaves are not much good for anything we do. You cannot give them a horse, for they will steal it. It is better to kill them than to hold them prisoner, unless their kin can ransom them with great gifts and tribute.

20-Hunting?The Chey are mighty hunters. It is great sport and training for war to chase a wily beast from horseback. Also great sport among us is to hunt with fierce birds, the falcon and the hawk.

21-FishingFish are good to eat, but not so plentiful in our land, where the streams and pools are far apart.

22-Eating meat?Meat is a good thing in life. It makes men and women grow strong and, if taken from a beast noble and fierce, it makes also the spirit strong with the spirit of the beast. There are only two animals that may not be eaten. The horse, for she is our brother and our life, and the human, for the flesh of the Warrior Chey is sacred, and the flesh of all other speaking creatures is profane.

23-Littering? What is this thing litter? We use a litter for the sick or injured, if our wains are not close by. What? Throw away? Of course we throw away things that are no longer meet, but few are these things. We of the Chey are wise, and can make use of most all parts of all things.

24-Unisex bathrooms ? Rooms are profane things. No Chey will enter a room to bathe or for any other reason by will, unless there is some purpose of honour, such as hospitality. We bathe in the streams and pools when we might, as the Spirits would will us.

25-Suicide? If one were so old or infirm as to be a burden upon the people, these will go off by themselves to die, or will choose to die by their own blade or better, while fighting enemies of the Free Chey.
Euthanasia / Right to Death with Diginity All warriors seek to die with dignity. If one is too ill, has been possessed by dark spirits or has been born with befouled blood, or had their blood befouled such that their own spirit and the power of the shaman cannot cleanse them, then it is meet that the close kin of their lineage help them to pass unto the world of the ancestors.

26 - Gay marriage? We do not marry as the house people do. Nor do we wish it. Those things which we keep, we pass down through our own lineage, not to kin by sex. What is mine I will leave to the sons and daughters of my sisters. How am I to know who among the children of the women I lie with are mine. And if I lie with a man, then we will have no children.

27-Abortion It is not often among us that a woman would not wish her child, unless the augery of the shaman foretell an ill-fate for the unborn one. Even then, most women would wait until the child is born to see if it is befouled in the blood, for it is easier and safer to kill it then. Still there are plants and salts that make philters that can miscarry the unborn. Knowledge of these is not uncommon, especially among the shamans and the war-witches and war-wizards.

28- What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ?There is nothing among the acts of the body that is not permitted, though it is not permitted to conceive a child with an outlander or a House Chey and let such a child be born to be raised among heathens.

29-Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? The Ancestors and the Spirits of the Upper Air would be much displeased were the Chey to dress as outlanders upon our own lands. Besides this, the garb and raiment of outlanders is foolish, neither as wise, nor as cunning, nor as meet as the things that are wrought in the manner of the Warrior Chey.

30-Do you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". The worship of Darkness and service unto Ren is the greatest of obscenity. To curse by the name of Darkness or the name of Ren is to invite the wrath of the Ancestors upon oneself.

31-What system do you have for taxes? We pay no tax. To give tribute is a sign of weakness.
We share among ourselves what is needed by kin and by tribe.
31aSales tax? We do not buy nor sell among our own people.
31bImport/Export tax?I do not even understand what this means.

32-What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? To become one of the Chey, one must be born into one of the Free tribes, or adopted by a lineage by the choice of the Chey of that kin. It is rare that this happens, though young children are sometimes taken unto us, for their spirits are yet fresh, and can be cleansed unto our ways. A grown warrior must have done great service indeed to the kin or tribe, this has not happened among the Coy’l nor even all of the Isuljin in my time.

33-What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? None may enter the land of the Chey without the sufferance of the Chey. Outlanders court death to come upon our land.

34-What type of government are you? We are the free Chey, we live as our ancestors have since the world was brought forth from the bosom of the sky. Among us all are warriors and all warriors have a say. Wise are the shaman, and the witches and wizards of war, and wise are the warriors who hearken to their council. Chiefs and chieftesses we have among us, but they are chosen by us for their knowledge and skill, so it is meet that we hearken unto them as well, but the Warrior Chey are free. Our spirits have within them the spirit of the wind.

35-To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? What are these things, guv-er-mint and me-dee-ah? These are strange words; the Chey do not know them.

36-Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? This would take long to answer, and I must return to my horse, and to my people. We, the Warrior Chey are a people of tradition, it is our tradition and belief that make us what we are. We fight to defend these things from the pollution of Ren and of the outlanders and their ways. The followers of Ren call us “the unclean” but in truth we are clean, for we are pure in the ways of our ancestors. It is they who have strayed, they who worship Darkness, and they who live between walls and beneath roofs. In short it is they who truly are “the unclean”.

Re: National Standards Questionaire

Postby PrimeMinister Sinister » Thu May 14, 2009 11:59 pm

A short cringing sort of man with a paralysed right leg and oily slicked back hair. Steps forward from the shadows. His large, dark eyes glance furtively around the room, then his upper lip curls into a credible imitation of a smile. “Hello. Allow me to introduce myself,” he says, his voice a nasally sound, reminiscent of a poorly played violin. “I am sub-diplomat second class, Joel Avaris. I have been ordered by my master, the glorious, all conquering, superior genius, Prime Minister Sinister, to answer questions you have about our glorious nation.” He glances around again, more quickly this time, and laughs a strange, high-pitched, stammering, little laugh.

1 - What is the legal drinking age? None, drinking liquor is illegal without a special license from the state.

2 - Driving age? Anyone can receive a driving permit, so long as he or she is required to drive by their superiors (i.e. the state). All driving permits are temporary. All infractions of traffic laws can carry the death penalty, at the discretion of the state.

3 - Age of sexual consent? No one is allowed to have sex, unless they have a government permit for doing so. All allowed partners must be listed on the permit. In addition, anyone who is instructed by the state to have sex, must do so with the person or persons they are instructed to have relations with.

4 - Voting age? Voting? Voting?!? {The odd little man breaks into a sort of howl or shriek, punctuated by a funny gagging sound. Whether this is laughter or agony is almost impossible to tell.}

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? Parents have no legal control over their offspring unless they receive special permission from the government. As a rule, children are seized from their parents at birth, wet nursed until weaning by mothers who have given birth around the same time, weaned, and then moved into barracks where they are raised communally.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal? None.

-Pot Illegal.

- Tobacco Illegal.

- Cocaine Illegal.

-Alcohol Illegal.

- LSD Illegal.

- Caffeine Illegal.

- Heroin Illegal.

- Other? All drugs are illegal, unless prescribed as medicine by state healers, or required for training or socialization by state officials. Then taking them according to instructions is mandatory.

7 - Can people have guns? The only people who can have guns are military and law enforcement personnel, which are issued to them on an as needed basis.

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called Formal: the Absolute, Complete, and Perpetual Dictatorship of Mister Sinister the Sinister Prime Minister. Informal: the Dictatorship of PrimeMinister Sinister Citizens: Peons, Dolts, Lackeys, Vermin, Thralls. They are all interchangeable, really.

9 - Do you have the death penalty? Yes. All crimes are theoretically punishable by death. The state may commute any sentence it wishes, however, and may instead administer what ever punishment the official in charge sees fit. Also, superiors can sentence an individual to death, even when no crime has been committed, though if they do so, and it is found by their superiors that the person was executed in error, the official who killed them is then put to death as well.

10 - What is the speed limit? There is no speed limit. Anyone causing an accident, or delaying a government official is liable for execution, however.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? Religion is not permitted.

Which of the following are be legal:

12- Porn Illegal.

13-Prostitution Illegal.

14-Polygamy/ Polyandry/ Polyamory Illegal, unless a government permit listing all participants can be obtained.

15-Homosexuality Illegal, unless a government permit listing all participants can be obtained.

16-Stem cell research Only legal under government auspices.

17-Human Cloning Only legal under government auspices.

18-Cock Fighting? Illegal.

20-Hunting? Illegal.

21-Fishing Only legal for members of the government fishing fleet.

22-Eating meat? Legal, but a luxury. Only high government and inner party types have anything like regular access to meat.

23-Littering? Illegal.

24-Unisex bathrooms ? Compulsory.

25-Suicide? Illegal.

26 - Gay marriage? Illegal. There is no legal marriage in the lands of PrimeMinister Sinister, straight or gay.

27-Abortion Illegal/Compulsory. It is illegal to abort a foetus conceived by government order, unless that order is countermanded. Any foetus conceived outside of government instructions must be aborted. Any woman conceiving outside of government instructions is liable for the death penalty. Any man proven to have impregnated a woman without government instructions is also liable for the death penalty. As always, the state reserves the right to commute such a sentence to whatever sentence the state chooses for the persons involved.

28- What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ? No sexual activity is legal without a permit. Permits are only routinely available when the government deems it necessary for an individual to have sex. Occasionally permits have been found to be issued as a result of bribes, however, both the offerer and the receiver of the bribe are then liable to be put to death.

29-Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? Clothing is mandatory, and the specific wardrobe options available to any person are determined by state regulations.

30-Do you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". Any speech or action not expressly ordered by one’s superiors is considered obscene. All obscenity and disobedience makes a person liable to immediate execution.

31-What system do you have for taxes? Almost all personal property in the land is owned by the state already, so there are no taxes on individuals per se, though the state can seize anything it wants from anyone it wants, whenever it wants.
Income tax? What little income the people earn is considered “after taxes”, unless the state decides it wants the money back.
31aSales tax? No capitalist or market transactions of any kind allowed
31bImport/Export tax? All imports and exports are property of the state.

32-What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? Everyone who enters the country is considered automatically to be a citizen.

33-What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? Anyone who wants to enter may do so, whenever they want. They then automatically become citizens and are evaluated and either assigned duties or liquidated. No one is ever allowed to leave.

34-What type of government are you? Umm...is this a trick question, or something? {He starts again with the horrible shrieking, gagging noise he made when asked about voting...it’s almost intolerable to listen to.}

35-To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? Government censorship is both total and completely positive. That is, not only does the government tell media what they can and cannot say, it dictates to them exactly what they will say.

36-Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example Everyone must show utter servility and obsequiousness to their superiors. All failure is punishable by death. Superiors and law enforcement personnel can generally liquidate anyone under their orders. The most common topic of conversation is how brilliant, sublime, wonderful and godlike PrimeMinister Sinister is. It’s lethal to slip up, but everyone does so eventually.

The Free Land of Treluria

1 - What is the legal drinking age? 14 in supervision by adult (only light beverages allowed), 22 without supervision (strong alcoholic beverages are tolerated but not very accepted in Trelurian society)

2 - Driving age? 14, but obtaining a driver's license involves taking some pretty hard exams. Both practical aspects of driving such as safety training, speed driving, mountain driving, first aid, car mechanics etc. and theoretical aspects such as traffic rules, traffic law, and ethics are tested. The exam is so hard and cars are so expensive that in fact only a minority of adult Trelurians and the professional transport drivers have a car. Most Trelurians go by foot, public transport, or bycicle.

3 - Age of sexual consent? 14, but in the age group from 14 to 18 there are special protection laws that outlaw practices that are legal for at the age of 18 or higher, e.g. what the High Court in its 1886 verdicts called "asymmetric relationships" and the production of pornography are not allowed; no more restrictions starting from 18

4 - Voting age? 8

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? - 16

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal? All drugs are legal starting from age 22, only few legal earlier as follows:

-Pot - legal starting from 14 - highly taxed

- Tobacco - legal starting from 14 - highly taxed

- Cocaine - legal starting from 22

-Alcohol - light beverages starting from 14 under supervision by adults, 22 strong beverages

- LSD - legal starting from 22

- Caffeine - legal, not considered a drug and not regulated as a drug

- Heroin - legal starting from 22

- Other? All other drugs are legal starting from age 22 provided that they do not provably cause a strong addiction upon first use already. (There has been a recent controversy about "crack", which was finally outlawed by the Trelurian High Court on the basis of medical trials despite the protests of a powerful lobby.) Notice that drugs in Treluria are a non-profit venture. Making profit from producing or selling drugs is strictly prohibited---they are produced and distributed by non-profit organizations. Drugs must also be 'clean', i.e. conforming to certain health and food standards, which are controlled by the Ministery of Nutrition.

7 - Can people have guns? Strictly illegal, except for a few security and police officials and the military.

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called Formal: The Free Land of Treluria// Informal: Treluria / Citizens: Trelurians

9 - Do you have the death penalty? Yes, for extended and grave torture and certain crimes against humanity. Has not been applied for a long time.

10 - What is the speed limit? Inside cities, traffic is mostly prohibited except for delivering supplies and public transport. In pedestrian zones (largest parts of cities), walking pace has to be kept and special, solar and electrically powered transport cars are used for this. Outside cities, speed limites vary with street quality.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? All are permitted. No religion is favored over any other, all religions are treated like business enterprises and none of them is especially protected.

Which of the following are be legal:

12- Porn - Images of pedophilia and rape are illegal. Porn depticting people 18 or older is completely legal. People depicted hold part of the copyright of the material and have the right of obtaining an adequate compensation. (Notice also that in Treluria copyright is non-transferable and only valid during one's lifetime.)

13-Prostitution - Just another business. Special health care services are given to sex workers, who need to pass exams in psychology, epidemiology, and resorted topics.

14-Polygamy/ Polyandry/ Polyamory - unrestricted

15-Homosexuality - unrestricted

16-Stem cell research - allowed, but regulated; scientific results cannot be patented and must be publically accessible to everyone

17-Human Cloning - allowed, but regulated (you can't do it for fun and clones have full rights); scientific results cannot be patented and must be publically accessible to everyone

18-Cock Fighting? allowed, if the cock that looses is eaten afterwards

19-Slavery? - prohibited, violates equalitarian principles of constitution

20-Hunting? allowed, if the animal hunted is eaten afterwards. Since guns are completely prohibited and using traps is also not allowed in order not to endanger other people, you'll have to use a knife or your bare hands, though.

21-Fishing - allowed, if the fish is eaten afterwards

22-Eating meat? legal

23-Littering? There are high fines against littering (still, it's civil law, of course)

24-Unisex bathrooms ? the common norm, but not regulated (so in theory, a bar or restraurant owner could have sparate bathrooms, but why?)

25-Suicide? - legal (but illegal if somebody else is harmed by the method of suicide---which has nothing to do with suicide per se, of course)

26 - Gay marriage? - not regulated. Marriage is a matter of the church/religion and most religions in Treluria have gay marriage.

27-Abortion - entirely legal

28- What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ? rape, sex with persons below 14 by persons above 16, depiction of sexual activities involving children below 14, the production and selling of pornography depicting people between 14 and 18 (but the law is usually only applied to people above 18 that are somehow involved in it)

29-Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? not regulated (people can walk around as they like, be it naked or not). Most Trelurians choose to wear clothes and when someone walks naked during summer funny comments and jokes are not unheard of)

30-Do you have obscenity laws? no

31-[b]What system do you have for taxes?

- Income tax? Yep, that's the one and only tax, and it is pretty high.

31aSales tax? Doesn't exist.

31bImport/Export tax? There is one on some products (e.g. drugs)

32-What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? You must live in Treluria.

33-What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? Anyone who wants to live in Treluria. However, the citizen salary (a minimal salary that every citizen obtains) is only available after 5 years of working in Treluria.

34-What type of government are you? Federal democracy with strong basic democratic elements (many plebiscits and other surveys). For certain important decisions, voting is compulsory.

35-To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? No degree, any kind of censorship is outlawed, even if the information published concerns national security. The freedom of speech of journalists is very well protected by law. (However, giving away company or state secrets does have legal consequences for non-journalists.)

36-Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? We have some strange dances and there is a long tradition of having extended parties and festivities involving marihuana, dancing, and singing. In the cities, every quarter of the town has its own festivities and their own association planning them. Trelurians are very open and generally welcome strangers. (It is considered impolite to refuse a stranger that needs a place to stay, but it is likewise considered very impolite to stay at anyone's house for more than 3 days. There are hotels for that purpose and like we Trelurians say "Visitors are like fish, after three days they start to stink.")

The Rainforest Communities of Errinundera

1 - What is the legal drinking age? None specified.

2 - Driving age? There are no cars in Errinundera.

3 - Age of sexual consent? Varies enormously between communities. Many communities determine appropriate sexual activity by relative power relationship rather than age.

4 - Voting age? 14

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? Although children generally live with their parents the idea of parental control is not understood in Errinundera. Children are the responsibility of the local community. As children grow older they take more responsibility for the care of others.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal? Most.

- Pot Legal but not widely used.

- Tobacco Illegal, mainly because of passive smoking risks.

- Cocaine Legal but not widely used.

- Alcohol Legal but not widely used.

- LSD & other halucinogens Widespread. "Depa" is the most popular drug used.

- Caffeine Universal.

- Heroin Legal but not widely used.

- Other? Not widely used.

7 - Can people have guns? No.

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called Formal: The Rainforest Communities of Errinundera// Informal: Errinundera / Members: Errinundrians.

9 - Do you have the death penalty? No.

10 - What is the speed limit? Not applicable

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? Any permitted, however fewer than 10% of Errinundrians ascribe to any faith. Magistrates have consistently ruled that prosyletising is "egregious" behaviour leaving evangelical religions liable to vandalism.

Which of the following are be legal:

12 - Porn - Not understood as a concept.

13 - Prostitution - Not understood as a concept. Nobody is employed in Errinundera. If a person seeks sex they join an erotic co-operative.

15 - Homosexuality Seen as just one more way of enjoying sex.

16 - Stem cell research Permitted.

17 - Human Cloning Permitted but uncommon.

18 - Cock Fighting? Illegal.

19 - Slavery? Not understood as a concept.

20 - Hunting? Illegal.

21 - Fishing Illegal.

22 - Eating meat? Illegal.

(Errinundrians are, for the most part, unaware of the flesh-eating habits of other nations. Revelation can make an Errinundrian quite ill.)

23 - Littering? Uncommon.

24 - Unisex bathrooms ? The norm.

25 - Suicide? Yes but, with Errinundera rated as one of the happiest nations in NationStates, the rates are very low. Voluntary assisted suicide for release from chronic, painful medical conditions is legal.

26 - Gay marriage? See 14 & 15 above.

27 - Abortion Legal.

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ? When investigating complaints, Magistrates lay the emphasis on power relationships between people, not an classification of sexual activities.

29 - Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? No.

30 - Do you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". Again, not understood as a concept.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?
- Income tax? There is no income tax. (How many left-wing utopias do you know with zero income tax?) The standard goods and services exchange model in Errinundera is a co-operative. All co-operatives contribute some of their income to finance community projects.

31a - Sales tax? See above.

31b - Import/Export tax? None.

32 - What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? The concept of citizenship is not understood in Errinundera. People are members of the community they choose to live in.

33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? There are no restrictions on movement within Errinundera nor are there any border controls.

34 - What type of government are you? A loose federation of de-centralised communitarian co-operatives.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? Locally owned media has no restrictions whatsoever. A survey conducted by Reporters Without Borders, based in Ariddia, concluded that Errinundera had the most free media of any nation surveyed. There were two issues of concern: the lack of government protection of the media; and controls on foreign ownership.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example

– All Errinundrians see themselves as part of their community. If you are down and out, then I am down and out also.

- There is no ownership in Errinundera. All goods are the belongings of everybody. This is disconcerting for first-time visitors.

- A person is Errinundrian if they choose to live in Errinundera.

The world is not cyclical, not eternal or immutable, but endlessly transforms itself, and never goes back, and we can assist in that transformation.

Live on, survive, for the earth gives forth wonders. It may swallow your heart, but the wonders keep on coming. You stand before them bareheaded, shriven. What is expected of you is attention.

1 - What is the legal drinking age? 18. You must have your ID on you to buy alcohol.

2 - Driving age? 18, and you must of course obtain a license.

3 - Age of sexual consent? 16 in theory, but Trebizondu is a conservative country and has a very high cultural pressure on marriage, moving the age for most cases to 18.

4 - Voting age? 18. Voting is compulsory. You might lose the right to vote, if you are mentally ill or as a decision of court.

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? - 18, but the control is weaker since 16.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal?

-Pot - No

- Tobacco - No

- Cocaine - No

-Alcohol - Yes

- LSD - No

- Caffeine - Yes

- Heroin - No

- Other? - No

7 - Can people have guns? Yes, but they have to cut through a lot of red tape, pass psychological tests, and so on. Also, guns are expensive and each one must be registered. However, due to Trebizondu's hostile neighbours, many people apply for a license.

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called? - The Empire of Trebizond - Trebizond - Trebizondeans

9 - Do you have the death penalty? No

10 - What is the speed limit? Depends. In cities it's 60 kph, but in general the limits are lower.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? - Any that doesn't openly and officially call to acts of violence, that doesn't use brainwashing techniques or commits illegal acts during it's ceremonies. Most of the populace is either Muslim or Orthodox Christian.

Which of the following are legal:

12- Porn - all participants must be over age of consent. However, it is culturally damned and market for it is very small in Trebizondu, as well as the industry.

13-Prostitution - Illegal.

14-Polygamy/ Polyandry/ Polyamory - Illegal.

15-Homosexuality - Legal, but we do not support same - sex marriages or let them adopt children. It is legal - as in, it is not an offence.

16-Stem cell research - Regulated by government. Bases on cord blood.

17-Human Cloning - impossible, so not taken into account of the law.

18-Cock Fighting? - Banned.

19-Slavery? - Banned.

29-Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? Optional.

31-What system do you have for taxes? - Graduated income tax, and a bunch of other taxes, such as the ground tax, the dog tax, healthcare add-on, etc. Generally high, but the government wants to lower them in coming months.

31aSales tax? 7 or 22% VAT, and excise on alcohol and gasoline.

32-What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? - Know the culture, know the history, know the language. Immigrants must pass the exam of these three things. There's also a shorter way - marry a Trebizondean woman.

33-What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? - Anyone can be allowed as a refugee, if he or she can prove it, but it doesn't mean anything more than being placed in a refugee camp and causes a person to be removed from the country once the danger from which said person was running passes. If you migrate for money, then you must become a citizen, but there's no limitation to who can take the citizen test.

34-What type of government are you? - Democracy with very strong executive branch of the government.

The Hundred Worlds of Lord Atum (AKA the Goa'uld Domain)

1 - What is the legal drinking age? No drinking age is established, it is expected that parents prevent their children from getting unruly-drunk.

2 - Driving age? To all intents and purpouses, 14 for ground vehicles, 21 for air vehicles. However, both are rather rare on most worlds.

3 - Age of sexual consent? 18 is considered normal. Different juristictions may vary.

4 - Voting age? We have local elections in some areas - it's generally around twenty one in such places.

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? To differing degrees, depending on culture, between thirteen and twenty one.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal? You can make drugs illegal? What kind of rod up your ass would you require before you'd want to do that?

-Pot This is the cannabis plant, yes? Commonly found in many places, used by many people.

- Tobacco Just as common.

- Cocaine Legal, however, it's more commonly found being used as leaves than the processed form common in other cultures.

-Alcohol Ubiquitous.

- LSD Ooh, fascinating. Not one we use, but legal, of course. I may have to try that.

- Caffeine Mmm. In every internationally popular form, and a few more.

- Heroin In that form, not so much. Smoked opium, however, is quite common.

- Other? Oh my, where to start. We've everything from control pheremones to aphrodisiacs to blue lotus blossoms you set fire to and inhale, right the way up to mind altering energy fields that combined with holoprojectors. More always welcome.

7 - Can people have guns? Yes. Quite rare among humans, but among our jaffa warrior class, training is universal, and the household without at least one weapon per adult is considered to be impious by its neighbors.

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called Formal: The Most Venerable Creation of the Exalted and Omnipotent God Lord Atum (Incidentally, that includes you too.)
Informal: The Hundred Worlds of Atum, The Goa'uld Domain
Citizens: Atumites

9 - Do you have the death penalty? Of course. For the most part, this consists of simply being disintegrated. Higher social ranks however, tend to receive more creative punishments. I'm reliably informed that Moloch has been executed several hundred times so far...

10 - What is the speed limit? A technological limit of a vehicle in whatever medium it travels in?

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? Why, one worships Lord Atum, of course. And so should you. Yes you, gentle reader. More specifically, it used to be common for us goa'uld to claim to be gods, but Lord Atum has taken us to task over that impostiture as is right and proper, as he is of course, the only diety in existance, and creator of all things.

Exact forms of worship vary, however, and there are many names and faces attributed to god, if that's what you mean.

Which of the following are be legal:

12- Porn By Atum's grace, you have no idea.

13-Prostitution We have temple prostitutes. Next question.

14-Polygamy/ Polyandry/ Polyamory Indeed.

15-Homosexuality Legal, but often looked down upon.

16-Stem cell research I'm really quite fascinated by medical research. Volunteer test subjects for my latest experiments would be well rewarded!

17-Human Cloning We've a major project going to produce human clones without the capacity for intelligence, to serve as more... morally acceptable hosts. But it's not generally a done thing.

18-Cock Fighting? Is this where I make insulting jokes about Cronos' endowment? Wait, you mean cockrels. Yes, that's legal, though I think bears are more common. Such amusements are beneath me.

19-Slavery? Legal, but our Lord has recently placed rather severe restrictions on the aquisition and length of servitude of human and unas slaves. I'm sure he has a most noble and enlightened reason for this beyond my humble comprehension...

20-Hunting? Oh yes.

21-Fishing Staple diet of many, many places.

22-Eating meat? Omnipresent - as a side note, our Lord has banned cannibalism, and doing so does result in dire penalties.

23-Littering? Priests that see you would tell you off.

24-Unisex bathrooms ? Public bathrooms are universally divided by gender, so, no.

25-Suicide? What you do to yourself is your business. So long as you don't have information of vital importance or anything, it's unlikely you'll be ressurected just to punish you again.

26 - Gay marriage? Mmm.

27-Abortion Socially ostracizing in the extreme.

28- What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ? Rape and Pedophilia are illegal.

29-Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? Mandatory in many places.

30-Do you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". Blasphemy would be considered obscene. Which usually results in being shot with a taser-like gun and possibly thown in a prison cell. Other than insulting god, insulting goa'uld is highly obscene, and people that do it deserve everything they get.

31-What system do you have for taxes?
Tithes are typically ten percent of a community's produce, collected annually.

31aSales tax? You've lost me.

31bImport/Export tax? Humm?

32-What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? Be born, and not be a slave?

In theory, you're already a subject of Lord Atum. You just don't happen to know this. Immigrants are, I suppose, welcome.

33-What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? I honestly don't know. We don't get many visitors who aren't blasphemers that try to shoot at us. I suppose we'd allow anyone that asked to visit in.

34-What type of government are you? Atum rules. Everyone else obeys, and gets what the deserve.

35-To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? All mass media is produced by the government. Standard blasphemy laws apply with regard to more regional publications, as well as books of other types, and so forth.

36-Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example Oh my. I could go on and on and on. I'll get back to you on that!
