What Calendar System Does Your Nation Utilize?

Postby The Imperiosi » Fri Dec 16, 2011 7:05 pm

OOC: Was the that other calendar topic up before this? If it was, I was not aware
The Imperium since the Old Age has adopted the Zacchaen Calendar, with one full year consisting of ten thirty-six day months with the addition of five days. In antiquity these five days were added to the months of the solstices, equinoxes, and the month of Fervor as a day of leisure and relaxation. Today they have been placed in the months of the harvest and winter for national holidays of thanksgiving and piety.

Months of the Zacchaen Year
Renewal: The beginning of the year and the last month of winter; dedicated to St. Zacchaeus
First Point: The spring equinox; dedicated to the House of Labdacus
Niagara: The month of rainfall; dedicated to St. Pyotr
Northern Star: The month of the summer solstice, where the sun stands highest in the sky; dedicated to the House of Caelius
Fervor: The hottest month of the year; dedicated to the entire Imperium
Decadence: The month where the Earth begins to die in response to the advent of the cold; dedicated to the fallen and the martyrs
Last Point: The autumn equinox and the month of the harvest; dedicated to the House of Eutychianus
Wintertide: The arrival of winter; dedicated to St. Anastasius
Southern Star: The winter solstice, where the sun stands the lowest in the sky; dedicated to the House of Caro
Adjournment: The end of the year; dedicated to St. Stephanos

12 months of 30 days and one month of 5(or six) days on the end, the numbers of the years are from the founding of the church(it isn't really a church it's just the closest word).

The Daokani.
There are four years in a sun cycle (the 'years' correspond to seasons), the sun cycle is named after the current queen, or the queen at the start of the sun cycle.
The years are Swollen Sun (summer), Old Sun (autumn), Dead Sun (winter), and Young Sun (spring). Obviously the names are in Daotase.
There are 4 months in each year, named after the moon phase (the moon takes a year to orbit Dao).
So for this year...
Dark Moon Dead Sun Tisuki Seven
Waking Moon Dead Sun Tisuki Seven
Bright Moon Dead Sun Tisuki Seven
Fading Moon Dead Sun Tisuki Seven

Some months are named differently, these are First Birth Young Sun (first month of Young Sun) and Lost Wings Old Sun (the second month of Old Sun).

The beginning of the year is usually just January and the ending being December.
For our first year, we regard the first year in our calender to begin on a 'Monday' and for now, it's been about one hundred years, with a tolerance of five years.
Now mostly a politik discuss account.

The Tsvarchivan calendar has 13 months of 28 days, divided into four weeks each. There's a single day at the end of the year that doesn't belong to any month, and 1 day is added every fourth year between the 5th and 6th month.

In English "AF" is noted to make a distinction between history before foundation, and after foundation. The calendar is currently in its 4202nd year AF.

We use the Gregorian calendar in CL.
Please note: Central Lothian is the direct successor to Mid Lothian*. As a result, I am still called Rebecca, I am still a Grammar Nazi and most information pertaining to ML also applies to CL (although I will be taking this time to change a few things).

* - And I may refer to the country as Mid Lothian. If I do, assume that I mean Central Lothian. (And not to be confused with "Midlothian" - I'm using that as a fascist version of CL.)

Perhaps something similar to early European calendars, based on moon cycles, and with the new year being centered on the first full moon after the winter solstice. It makes sense to us. This can be expected to vary according to region (less to culture); some more equatorial cats may use a different beginning to the new year, for instance, based on weather patterns (first full moon of clear skies).

lunisolar

Postby Uzic Tribes » Sat Dec 17, 2011 10:00 am

The Uzic calendar is a lunisolar calendar, similar to the Hebrew/Babylonian calender, based on twelve lunar months--59 days every two months, with a "leap month" added seven out of nineteen years to synchronize the lunar year with the solar year. Each month starts with the new moon. The twelve regular months are named Yich (30 days), Ni (29 days), San (30 days), Shi (29 days), Go (30 days), Raku (29 days), Shachi (30 days), Achi (29 days), Ku (30 days), Ju (29 days), Onse (30 days), and Docha (29 days).

In the leap years the additional month of Shuva is added. Shuva veries in its number of days (28-31) and is interjected when there are four new moons in a solar quarter to keep the other months on schedule. The 12th-18th of the month of Shuva is the Week of Silence, in which non-life saving speech is forbidden.

The Spring Equinox always Begins in the month of Yich, Summer solstice in Shi, Fall Equinox in Shachi, and Winter solstice in Ju. In these four months are the Brotherly feast days on the 3rd, 7th, 11th, 15th, 19th, 23rd, and 27th of each month, with the 29th being a fast day. Other months have the Neighborly feast on the 8th, 15th and 22nd of the month. Feast days are the only days in which meat (not including fish, eggs or milk) can be eaten; or strong drink (more than 4% alcohol) can be drunk; Tobacco, Canabisis, or Paoti can be smoked.

We use the traditional Harunese calendar.

The Lyranian year consists of 391 days, divided into 13 months of 30 days each, except the first month has 31 days. Every three years is a "balancing year" of 392 days, when the thirteenth month also has 31 days. The year begins on winter solstice, which is the first day of the first month (eriusano eripayu). The months have numbers for names.

Besides months, the year is also divided into weeks of seven days each. The days of the week are named after the sun, the moon, and the five planets that are visible to the naked eye: anopayu, usapayu, amipayu, reipayu, minapayu, makopayu, hotapayu. Anopayu is a day of rest, or at least time and a half.

The count of years begins from the founding of the city of Haru, approximately 2,800 years ago. According to legend, it was founded by twin sisters, Maya and Reye.

We use the Christian calendar because having a calendar unique to our own nation makes us appear like narcissistic isolationists.

Also, this prevents us from wasting out time trying to figure out what damn day it is in your nation.

Sebastianalandia employs two calendars: The Old Count and the Gregorian.

The Old Count Calendar starts the same day as the Gregorian (as of 1967), and has twelve months of thirty days. Five feast days are added at the end, the grandest of which is Yule - which doubles as New Years.

For leap years, an extra feast day is added at the beginning of the year (a day zero). Thus[] the 0 corresponds to the Gregorian 1st, etc.

For business and governmental matters, the Gregorian calendar has been preferred since the dying days of the monarchy. However, many of the months have had "titles" added to them in order to honour the Revolution:

-January: "Victory Month" (the Red victory in the Civil War)
-February
-March: "Industry Month" (all industrial Five-Year Plans start here)
-April: "Plenty Month" (the first successful harvest after the Civil War)
-May: "People's Emancipation Month" (the start of the Revolution)
-June: "National Month" (passing of the Constitution and formation of a recognised revolutionary government; also, the current Vozhd's birthday)
-July
-August
-September
-October "Socialist Month" (solidarity with Russian and Chinese Communists)
-November
-December: "Festival Month" (the five feast days mentioned above)
