The Romulan Republic FT, PT, and MT factbooks.

Postby The Romulan Republic » Sat Sep 05, 2009 4:42 pm

I use this nation for RPs in various time periods and settings, so obviously one factbook can't cover all of those. This factbook is intended to be the main Future Tech factbook for my nation (yes I will be doing MT and PT ones as well, and to save space I'll be posting them all in this thread). Keep in mind that it is a work in progress, and isn't likely to be complete any time soon. I have yet to participate much in FT Rps with this nation. But I figure their will be times when I'll need this information to be available, and that it will save time to start writing it now. Any criticisms, suggestions for improvement, and comments are welcome. Again, this is a work in progress, hence any gaps you might find here and there:

The Romulan Republic FT factbook:

Geography: The Republic is spread across many world, featuring a wide range of habitats, across an area of space up to 20 light years wide.

Population: 4.104 Billion.

Territory: Holdings on 10 major worlds and over 100 minor colonies, outposts, and stations spread across 7 star systems.

Politics: The Republic features representative democracy within a strict Constitutional framework, which serves to garuntee essential rights and freedoms to all sentient beings. The current President is James Donovan of the Democratic Party.

Religion: The Republic tolerates numerous faiths and religious and philosophical viewpoints. Their is no official state religion, and Freedom of Religion and Expression is protected constitutionally.

Economy: The Republic's economy is run on a mix of Capitalist and Socialist ideals. Private property and private enterprise remain, but businesses are strictly regulated to protect the environment and human rights, and the rich are taxed more heavily than the poor.

History: The Republic originated some 1500 years ago from a collection of feudal city states and tribes that joined together under a Lord Protector, instituting a system which was a mix of feudalism, an oligarchical legislature, and more centralized military government.

Some 800 years and several coups and civil conflicts later, the nation fragmented again into numerous semi-autonomous city states. However, roughly 500 years ago these territories reformed into a major power in order to gain mutual security in a hostile and globalized world. This state has persisted more or less in its current form until the present day.

OOB:

Navy:

The navy is the predominant branch of the Republic's military. Strategic and tactical doctrine calls for rapidly asserting orbital superiority over friendly and hostile worlds, potentially followed by a blockade of hostile worlds. The Navy receives the majority of all Republic military funding. Each system is assighned its own defensive fleet, which typically consists of a carrier, an attack cruiser, and between 16 and 24 destroyers, plus transport ships. Their are also two reserve fleets.

Total ship count:

Capital Ships:

1 Guardian Class Super Carrier.

The Guardian Class is the largest ship in the Republic fleet, and the newest addition to its carrier forces. Only one has ever been built, but their are covert plans in the works to possibly phase out the older carriers and replace them entirely with the Guardian Class.

Unlike Cruisers, Carriers are too large, vulnerable, and expensive to send into battle if it is at all possible to avoid. They serve a different purpose: transporting the massive numbers of ground troops and their assorted supplies, vehicles, and equipment required to launch a ground assault on a hostile planet. At 10 km. long, the Guardian Class's size allows it to carry a large force of ground troops in addition to its crew and defensive marine force, and support planetary operations for long periods without resupply.

3 Congress Class Carriers.

The standard carrier of the fleet, and the lighter ancestor of the Guardian Class. It fulfills essentially the same role, albeit with a lesser troop and cargo capacity.

3 Liberty Class Light Carriers. A smaller carrier used for small-scale operations such as restoring order or conducting counter-terrorism operations in an outlying colony.

4 Republic Class Cruisers.

The Republic Class is the standard heavy cruiser of the Republic navy, and forms the center of key task forces in vulnerable and critical systems. It is shaped like a broad, flatened diamond, and carries a mix of missiles and turret-mounted laser cannons. It carries up to four small shuttles or gunships.

3 Sword Class Attack Cruisers.

The Sword Class carries only two medium laser canons and some point defense lasers for energy weapons, relying primarily on its heavy batteries of missiles in battle. Carries four small shuttles or gunships.

Escorts:

60 Mars Class Destroyers. The heaviest destroyer in the fleet, the Mars Class is fast and fairly well-armored for its size, with a beam weapon armament nearly as strong as the Sword Class's, but a significantly reduced missile and point-defense capability. Carries two small shuttles or gunships.

47 Vanguard Class Destroyers. The Vanguard Class has fewer armaments than the Mars Class but improved sensors and stealth capabilities. It is a fast, expensive class. Carries two small shuttles.

85 Freedom Class Destroyers. The main destroyer in the fleet, the Freedom Class has numerous point defense weapons but few heavy weapons. It is designed explicitly for convoy escort and patrol in areas with a low threat level. Carries two small shuttles.

4 Raptor Class Destroyers. The newest class of destroyer, the raptor class is an ***experimental design featuring zero heavy missiles but relying entirely on laser weaponry to engage opponents. It is fast, well-armored, and features four rapid fire laser turrets. Carries two small shuttles or gunships. It is designed to be able to act as an escort for larger ships while still being able to engage light cruisers one on one.

Transports:

34 Jupiter Class Heavy Transports.

42 Titan Class Heavy Transports.

9 Terra Class Heavy Transports.

89 Ceres Class Light Transports.

41 Triton Class Light Transports.

21 Hernandez Class Light Transports.d

Ground Troops:

Each Major Alliance World and some colonies and major stations have a local army detachment. Armies are not highly mobile, and are volunteer forces typically assigned permanently to their home world due to the cost of transporting an army through interstellar space. Army troops are lightly equipped militia by the standards of the Marines; they are typically equipped with Projectile Assault Rifles, light body armor, and ground and air armored transport. They are the numerically largest branch in terms of personel however, and make up roughly .5 percent of the Alliance population. The Army is divided into squads (12 men), companies (50 men), regiments (250 men), divisions (1,200 men), and armies (5,000 men).

Marines and Special Forces:

Marines are stationed aboard every military star ship, civilian ships in dangerous areas or bearing sensative cargo, and within most major space stations and military bases. In addition to providing security and taking part in boarding/counter-boarding opperations, they usually make up the first wave of ground troops in the unlikely event of a planetary assault, and are often used in counter-terrorism work. They are the eliet ground troops of the Republic. Standard marine forces come equipped with projectile assault rifles with automatic targeting, as well as full body armor and helmets fitted with sensors and communications equipment. These armor suits are designed to optimize mobility while providing limited protection against bladed and impact weapons, shrapnel, and NBC warfare. Marines are divided into units in the same manner as the Army.
***
The Special Forces are split into a number of branches with training and equipment optimized for warfare in a certain type of extreme environment (like the different Stormtrooper variants in Star Wars). These include the following branches:

Space Ops: Equipped with magnetic boots, jetpacks, and space suits. Trained to fight in zero gravity. Used to board and capture enemy ships and stations. Considered the most eliet branch of the marines, possessing the most dangerous job. Combat mortality rates are often over 50% even when they win, and frequently 100% when they lose.

Volcanic Ops: Equipped and trained for fighting on heavily volcanic worlds.

Subterranian Ops: Equipped and trained for fighting underground in bunkers, mines, and caves.

Urban Ops: Equipped and trained for fighting in urban environments. These forces would be at the front of any ground assault on a highly developed world.

Counter-terrorism Ops: Equipped and trained for counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency, and hostage situations.

Submarine Ops: Equipped and trained for fighting under water.

Arctic Ops: Equipped and trained for fighting in extreme cold, ie, ice planets.

Dessert Ops: Equipped and trained for fighting in dessert environments.

Federal Security Agency: This force is tasked with security of Federal Government Buildings and VIP security. Its agents are usually lightly armed with pistols and batons, and wear uniforms or light body armor. However, they also have heavier assault rifles, sniper rifles, and some lightly armored vehicles. They are analagous to a Secret Service.

Alliances/Treaties: None at Present. Enquiries should be directed towards the Department of Foreign Affairs.

"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.
