RYKOVGRAD

Image

In 2002, St. Petersburg was officially renamed Rykovgrad - after Vladimir Rykov, architect of the New Revolution - and designated as the capital of the Rykovian Soviet Union. Since then, the city has received major structural alterations. Section by section, the previous architecture has been dismantled and demolished, replaced by new, pre-fabricated, uniform blocks. Each block is designed to accomodate adequate housing, restaurants, nurseries, schools and public services, all within one catchment area. Furthermore, blocks are built in close proximity to Industrial Sectors, decreasing lateness and increasing productivity. The CPRSU calls this a "People's City"; the prototype of what is to eventually become a norm for all cities in the Union.

At the epicentre of Rykovgrad is the Spearhead of the Revolution; a giant citadel that looms ominously above the low skyline. Extending as far underground as into the air, it serves as the seat of power for the Soviet Administration; the Supreme Soviet, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet and the Council of the People's Commissars all operate inside the mighty tower. Surrounded by an exclusion area - which is in turn shielded off by massive steel barricades - the Spearhead of the Revolution is an impenetrable fortress that can be damaged by nothing short of a direct nuclear attack.

National Anthems:

Spirit of the Union
(International)

1. Europe is united now

United may it remain;

Our unity in diversity

May it contribute to world peace.

May there forever reign in Europe

Faith and justice

And freedom of the people

In a greater motherland

2. Citizens, may Europe flourish,

A great task calls on you.

Golden stars in the sky are

The symbols that shall unite us.

1. Do you hear the people sing?
Lost in the valley of the night
It is the music of a people who are climbing to the light

For the wretched of the Earth
There is a flame that never dies
Even the darkest nights will end and the sun will rise

They will live again in freedom in the garden of the lord

They will walk behind the ploughshare
They will put away the sword

The chain will be broken and all men will have their reward!

2. Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade is there a world you long to see?

Do you hear the people sing?
Say, do you hear the distant drums?
It is the future that they bring when tomorrow comes!

The Vanguard of the Revolution
(Military; English version lyrics)

1. Workers of Europe,
Unite and be free!

Raise up your rifles;
Come, follow me!

The bourgeois oppressors,
Shall be swept aside!

Join in the plight of
The Revolution!

2. Give me your children,
Women and men;

Ready and willing –
Loyal to the end!

The Imperialist aggressors,
Cut down in their swathes!

Onward march the soldiers of
The Revolution!

3. Forward the war machines,
All clad in steel!

The firmness of victory,
Their advance shall seal!

The amoral mercenaries
Flee for their lives!

Crumbling in the face of
The Revolution!

4. The arm of the Party,
Champion of the true!

You’re benevolent Premier,
Stands watch over you!

The blood of the Fascists,
Shall stain the land Red!

Scythed by the rifles of
The Revolution!

5. Glory to the Union;
Glory to all!

In the face of our power,
The Oligarchs shall fall!

Their decadent empires,
Collapsed and destroyed!

Crushed into dust by
The Revolution!

6. Sisters and brothers,
Husbands and wives!

Come forward together
So the Motherland survives!

The cause of the righteous;
A triumph of will!

The People stand tall for
The Revolution!

PROFILE:
General Soren von Zödde

Image

Name: Soren von Zödde
Age: 56.
Nationality: German.
Position: Marshal of the Rykovian Soviet Union.
Biography: Born in East Berlin, the German Democratic Republic. Signed up for the Red Army at age 18, and was put through an accelerated Officer's course. Reached the rank of Polkovnik before the Red Army was dissolved, when he was reinstated at the same position in the newly-formed Red Vanguard.

After impressive tactical displays during the 1995 failed Polish Revolution, Zödde was promoted to the rank of Polkovnik-General and charged with heading the campaign for the Unification of Germany. After the Federal Republic of Germany was annexed by Soviet forces, Zödde was made a General - his incumbent rank.

Shortly after Germany had been re-unified, this time as the German Soviet Socialist Republic, the Republic of Austria - fearing a Soviet incursion - began to mobilise its forces. Premier Vladimir Rykov, claiming that the Austrians were preparing to attack the German SSR, deployed the Soviet Armed Forces into Austria. Zödde again displayed his military prowess, as the Red Vanguard quickly seized control of Vienna, and the Austria was assimilated into the Austro-German SSR.

Several months later, the Soviet Administration - spurred on by the recent victories - decided that this was the perfect time to retake the break-away nations of the Czech and Slovak Republics. An invasion of both countries was simultaneously launched, with Zödde managing both incursions. Prague was taken in under a week, and Slovakia feel shortly afterwards. With the Czechoslovakian Soviet Socialist Republic established, Zödde's military career was at its apex. Recognising his achievements, the Soviet Administration promoted him to the rank of Marshall of the Rykovian Soviet Union.

PROFILE:
Doctor Nikolai Gorodetsky

Image

Name: Nikolai Gorodetsky.
Age: 56.
Nationality: Russian.
Position: People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs; Secretary of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet; Convener of the Politburo of the CPRSU Central Committee.
Biography: Born in Kaliningrad, the Russian Soviet Socialist Republic.

As the incumbent People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs, Doctor Gorodetsky plays a key role in Soviet politics. However, Doctor Gorodetsky possesses more authority than his role would traditionally demand, allowing him to heavily influence internal executive actions - often to the chagrin of other members of the Council of the People's Commissars.

This is often attributed to his favourable relationship with Generalissimo Molotov; indeed, Doctor Gorodetsky is widely considered to be the unofficial second-in-command of the CPRSU, and this is reflected in his ceremonial yet influential position as the Convener of the Politburo of the CPRSU Central Committee. Further capitalising on this, Doctor Gorodetsky is also the permanent Secretary of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet.

As such, Doctor Gorodetsky is a pillar of the Soviet community. Himself, Generalissimo Molotov and Ilya Khruschev - People's Commissar for Internal Affairs - form the central power in the Party. Indeed, this has often brought Doctor Gorodetsky into conflict with Commissar Khruschev, who is also a likely candidate for the Soviet Premiership.
