The Elysian Government -- such as it is -- imposes no restrictions on any kind of elective surgery, or anything else whatsoever, and in fact those who can afford it get all kinds of plastic surgery done; forget sex changes, ever wanted your own personal arm cannon? How about becoming a catgirl? Takes all kinds, really.

The Elysian Government also imposes no restrictions on presenting as a gender you're not. But then, it doesn't restrict a lot of other things either -- like owning nuclear weapons, or public sex, or murder. The Elysian people have come to their own conclusion about that sort of behaviour -- if the sex on your privately issued driver's license* (confirmed by DNA testing) doesn't back up what you're trying to claim you're not getting into bars or clubs or concerts or private transport et cetera. Indeed, traipsing around in drag is a good way to get yourself on a Neighborhood Association's blacklist in most of the better parts of the country. It's not the sex changes that bother people; it's the lies.

Elysia does have one transsexuality-related association, mind -- of course there are associations for almost everything, even pacifists -- but last we checked they were too busy arguing over what the name of their association should be to carry any political weight whatsoever.

* Just about the only thing all Elysians can be counted on to have -- without a license, most dealers will refuse to sell you even the lightest, least armoured tanks, let alone a decent APC or IFV.
