House of Wolfenstein
Scions of the Third Dynasty

Family Background: The House of Wolfenstein is the current ruling royal family in Wolfenium, succeeding the Sommer dynasty less than half a cenutry ago when a veteran commander in the anti-corsair operations and Fuso Uprising, Heinrich von Wolfenstein, was named heir by the dying emperor Franz Josef Sommer died of liver cancer following his rejection of his 'incompetent' sons as heirs to the throne.

Descendants of the legendary Kriegschmeid, the Wolfensteins were among the only clans to have survive the purges of the early feudal era and to be able to craft the only weapons capable of defeating the seemingly immortal Angels. It is that ability that makes them a feared force, for friend and foe.

The clan was nearly wiped out in a single arson attack by the remaining, dethroned Sommers and in no less than a week, the nation was dragged into an abrupt and bloody war with its expansionist and increasingly desperate neighbour, Amythyst. Nevertheless, despite many setbacks, the Wolfensteins remain a clan built with an iron will and steady hand, ready to overcome any challenge, emerging as a prominent dynasty in the empire's 300-year independence.

Image

Name: Karl Franz von Wolfenstein
Titles: Emperor of the Fatherland, Saviour of South Astol
Occupation:
  • Emperor of Wolfenium
  • Grandmaster of the Iron Cross Order of Imperial Knights (Der Eisenkreuz Orden)
  • Head Chef of the Royal Kitchen
Age: 26
Born: Wolfsburg, Imperial Capital Territories
Race: Ruberian
Species: Humanity
Marital Status: Single
Biography: To some, Karl Franz von Wolfenstein seemed like a perfect leader to take to the throne. To others, he was a sadist and a dictator. On one hand, he was a intelligent and hard worker, graduating from the University of Saint Olivie in various subjects such as Physics, Ballistics, Engineering, Pyromancy and even Cuisine at the age of 9. On the other, he was a master of warfare and a monster who sanctioned brute force to maintain order within the empire. Of course, to his closest friends and family, he was just an annoyed, aloof and arrogant, an ordinary person doing extraordinary things.

But beneath the debate lies a mortal man, a soul who has both lost faith in humanity, but clings on to hope nonetheless.

Crowned at only 13 in the aftermath of the an arson attack on his family, he fought alongside common Wolfen soldiers in the First Astoli War against Amythyist, against the better judgement of his advisors. He reached the rank of First Lieutenant and earned himself many distinguished honours before he was discharged to officially take on active duties as emperor. He had actually declined a promotion to Field Marshall despite his achievements as he claimed that 'he did not earn it'. Today, he sought a peaceful resolution with the Amythysians, in hope of forging a brighter future. However, the monarch remains cautious, as he still has a lot to doubt about the future of the nation and the region.

Much of his motivations remain a mystery, and as time pass, he began shifting his duties to his loyal subjects. But at the same time, while his ambitious kin rose to the fore, he himself retreated from the limelight. What secret laid behind his questionable actions, and what does he have in store for the empire in general. Ultimately, only time will tell what future holds for him and the Empire...

But regardless of such differences, Eva cared a lot for her family, especially her fragile twin, the one person she sought to protect the most...

Unfortunately, her vow and her childhood was shattered in a single night, when an arson attack on the castle killed most of the clan, including Heidi. This forever scarred the young girl, who now sought only retribution against the masterminds, the Amythysians.

Today, Eva is a confident, ravishing and manipulative young woman, raised with a nationalist streak. With her iron will and burning resolve, she will stop at nothing to eliminate the enemies of the Fatherland before more of her countrymen pay the price for their transgressions.

Long an admirer of her late elder sister, 2nd Princess Heidi, Hilda took every effort to follow in her footsteps. While she possess the calm and logic of her niece and the compassion of her eldest sister, she severely lacked the will and fervour of her elder brother. This makes it exceptionally hard and unlikely for the baroness to gain support and favour from the emperor as heir. Nevertheless, she is content with her present life and had no qualms about supporting her sister and niece in their push for the throne.

Still, many rumours had been circulating about the underdog, claiming that the baroness could potentially ascend the throne as a dark horse in the succession battle.

Single and betrothed to no one, she is a free spirit with an air of naivety. Best of all, she is not spoilt and is more than willing to lend a hand to those in need.

However, even to her closest allies, Füchsin is still an enigma to be feared. The head of the empire's state security service, the Schild. Füchsin is tasked with committing the darker deeds of imperial control in a bid to maintain peace in the Fatherland. An unwaveringly loyal servant with a Machavellian outlook on politics, Füchsin takes great pride in putting down opposition in the empire with ruthless efficiency. The only people who have lived to see her darker side are those who, willingly or not, stood on the same side as her. Many are not sure which Füchsin is actually her true nature, although critics assume that her cheerful, happy-go-lucky attitude, even in the face of committing such questionable acts, was just another side of her real, sadistic and animalistic personality.

The Triumvirate of the Silver Light

Background:The Belkan guardian AI of the Tome of the Silver Light, Schwarzlicht is but a mere copt of the original Belkan Tome of the Night Sky. A direct replica of the original, was created during the Wolfen Civil War by opponents of the Belkan Saint Queen Olivie Segbrecht in an attempt to seize power in the war-torn Kingdom of Belka. As artificial weapons of mass destruction, the AIs had the potential to inflict widespread destruction throughout the world. However, upon her creation, Schwarzlicht proved too unstable to control, even for their creators, and soon went rogue, destroying everything - both friend and foe - in its path. In a desperate attempt to seal the rouge AI, Olivie and her allies created Weisswind out of the same material in an attempt to seal her. Eventually, the Saint King and her army of magic knights, through great pain and sacrifices, had just managed to seal the violent AI with Weisswind, within a tomb deep within the Alstein mountains, trapping in a frozen state for generations to come...

The tome, however, did not remain sealed forever. Unwittingly released during the chaos of the First Astoli War by the invading Amythysians, the rouge AI once again began her rampage through the plains of Belka, forcing both sides into the crossfire. Fearing the spreading chaos, Weisswind made a contract with a young officer from the Wolfen Imperial Army to track her down, taking it upon herself to seal the weapon once and for all.

But the officer had other plans. Repulsed by the idea of sacrificing others for his sake, he decided against sealing the little fairy with the weapon, instead opting for to take it down on his own. Though far from a match for the rouge AI, the boy was nearly beaten to near death by the weapon. However, with Weisswind's aid, he was eventually able to defeat Schwarzlicht, forcing out and purging the out-of-control defence programme active within her. With the cancerous programming removed, Schwarzlicht's sanity was finally restored. Guilt-ridden, she offered her head to the officer as repentance. However, sensing Weisswind's reluctance, the officer objected against this, offering her instead a place by his side as his subject. To the boy, there was no need to offer blood for blood. From then on, the duo became the right hand women of the young officer, a boy that would use anything at his disposal to force the world to follow his vision. That boy was none other than Emperor Karl Franz von Wolfenstein, Saviour of South Astol.

Image

Name:Weisswind
Occupation/Title: Guardian of the Emperor
Age: Approx. 250
Created: Dinsmark (modern-day Saint Olivie), former Kingdom of Belka
Biography:The emperor's palm-sized assistant, Weisswind is an ancient Belkan Unison Device created to serve as a power booster for any mage utilising the Tome of the Silver Light. A normally gentle, good-natured and bubbly character, she has a penchant of losing her short temper on anything annoying, namely her master, Karl. As such, the proud emperor is often the humiliating target for punishments and corrections from the pint sized terror - fact humourously known to most imperial subjects. Still, she does deeply care about her master, her 'sister' and her newfound friends in the empire. Unfortunately, she also knows fully well that the mortality of the people around her, and her greatest fear was to for her 'sister' Schwarzlicht to be alone again, reduced her to the same mindless killing machine she once were.

Image

Name:Schwarzlicht
Occupation/Title: Guardian of the Emperor
Age: Approx. 250
Created: Dinsmark (modern-day Saint Olivie), former Kingdom of Belka
Biography: The darker and far more stoic of the two 'sisters', Schwarzlicht is programmed to do two things and two thing only - destroy and obey. Her makers intended for her to be a soulless killing machine, obedient to all orders and ruthless in her execution. However, as a flawed and heavily corrupted copy, Schwarzlicht quickly went berserk as remnants of the equally corrupted original programming started acting up, turning her against her masters and driving her to go on a killing spree against friend and foe alike. It was not until her defeat at the hands of the young emperor Wolfenstein and her 'sister' device Weisswind that she regained her sanity.

Unlike her more lively partner, Schwarzlicht lacked the same emotional depth and will to follow her own path, given her original purpose as a weapon. But her new master believes otherwise, confident he can bring out something more inside her...

Image

Name:Violettfeuer
Occupation/Title: Guardian of the Emperor
Age: Approx. 250
Created: Dinsmark (modern-day Saint Olivie), former Kingdom of Belka
Biography: The latest edition to the Wolfenstein clan, the pint-sized Violettfeuer is everything her counterpart Weisswind was not. Hotblooded, violent, and indolent, Violettfeuer was nothing short of a hedonist packed in the size of a palm. As quoted by several of the clan's close confidants; 'if Weisswind was the 'angel' on the Kaiser's shoulders, Violettfeuer would be the 'devil''. But contrary to her devilish appearance, Violettfeuer cares a lot for her adoptive family and friends. Though carrying a rivalry akin to a love-hate relationship, she and Weisswind hold each other in high regard. There is no doubt here, that should harm befall her new family, the fairy of flame would ignite their enemies in flames.

House of Falken
The Bolt of Judgement

Family Background: The Falken family had existed long before the founding of the empire. Staunch loyalists of the empire, they are among the imperial family's closest allies, if not the closest. With a long line of decorated military commanders behind them, the Falkens are masters of strategy and war, pitting their wits against the enemies of the empire and squeezing victory out of the most difficult situations. In addition, the Falkens are skilled politicians, gaining much prestige and power throughout their service to the empire, so much so that the Falkens arguably have the most power in Wolfenium, second only to the imperial family.

Image
Name:Rena Falken
Titles:Grand Duchess of Adlerhof
Occupation:
  • Captain/Hauptmann of the Imperial Army and officer of the Iron Cross Order's Schwert division
  • Graduate from the Wolfsburg Military Academy
Age: 22
Born: Kristallburg, Kristallin Province
Race: Ruberian
Species: Humanity
Marital Status: Single
Biography: A commander of exceptional ability and power, Rena inspires fear in her enemies and respect in her allies. A strict disciplinarian, she is not one to tolerate failure. Fighting on the frontline at a young age, Rena joined the Imperial Defence Force as a way to escape the murky world of politics and an open defiance to her estranged father, then Chancellor Reiner Falken. Now a captain in the Orden's elite Schwert unit, she serves as a foil to her I'll-tempered friend and superior, Eva. A loyalist to the end, Rena believes only in the service of the Fatherland, and fighting against external foes outside the Fatherland's borders. However, as the reality of the Tenth Anniversary Coup transpired, she now found herself questioning her true loyalties. As the unity of the nation fractures bit by bit, Rena would now have to ask - who would she follow once the line between friend and foe blurs...

House of Kātsuga/Sankyoubi (三京日)
The Winds of Change (変化の風, Henka no kaze)

Family Background: Descendants of Fuso immigrants, the Kātsuga family descended from long line of assassins, trained to kill at a shift of the wind. Skilled with the bow and the sword, they, like many of Fuso's shadowy clans, were among the most infamous killers in medieval time. However, with the arrival of the industrial age, their effectiveness as a fighting force dulled, and many soon vanished into the pages of history.

But not the Kātsugas. Since their arrival to the imperial Fatherland, the clan now had a new purpose, on the forefront of a long and arduous campaign for equal rights. Given their status as non-ethnic Ruberians (the native ethnic group in Wolfenium), they, like most immigrants, struggled to integrate themselves into a society fearful of their intentions. Initial progress was slow, and many native Wolfeners still harbour the paranoia of "foreign spies and saboteurs in their midst". But following the stunning victories by the Reform Alliance in the most recent parliamentary elections, it was clear that the way for change is open and that the Kātsugas were leading the way for acceptance and racial harmony for all Wolfeners, old and new. However, they face stiff opposition from conservative elements of Wolfen society, primarily the Falken-led Nationalists and full imperial rights for Wolfen immigrants is still a long way away. But nevertheless, the Kātsugas were willing to fight on to the end, for as long as they have a future in Wolfenium.

Image

Name:Kuroi Kātsuga (三京日 黒井, Kātsuga Kuroi)
Occupation:
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • Editorial Manager
  • Chairman of the Reform Party of Wolfenium
  • Brigadier General (Ret.) in the Foreign Intelligence Service (Dolch)
Age: 46
Born: Saint Olivie, Province of Belka
Race: Fuso
Species: Humanity
Marital Status: Married
Political Affiliation: Reformists
Biography: The patriarch of a family of activists, Kuroi is no stranger to politics. Having fought for an equal rights campaign against the Ruberian-dominated society, Kuroi has won boundless admiration from liberal thinkers across Astol. Despite losing a campaign for chancellery to his political rival, Reiner Eugen von Falken, he and his Reform Alliance has since made increasing gains across recent elections, denying the ruling Nationalist Coalition a two-third majority and forcing the Nationalists to form a Grand Coalition with the RA. This opened the door for Kuroi into the Reichstag, granting him the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs, one at which he takes pride in as a descendant of immigrants.

A joker at heart, Kuroi often exhumes a child-like behaviour that both confounds and intrigues his political allies and enemies alike. However, as a father, Kuroi cares deeply for his only daughter, Midori. His love for his wife, Kurenai, is unparalleled, able to remain calm and accepting even in the face of her wrath. So protective of his family, Kuroi will not hesitate to cut down anything -or anyone- were to harm his dear girls.

Age at 13

Image
Age at present

Name:Midori Kātsuga (三京日 美鳥, Kātsuga Midori)
Occupation:
  • Mangaka, author of the popular manga series, Agent of Justice - Midorikage
  • Student at St. Alexander High School in Saint Olivie
Age: 16
Born: Saint Olivie, Province of Belka
Race: Fuso
Species: Humanity
Marital Status: Single
Biography: A famed mangaka with a penchant of eccentric behavious, Midori is an idol among the thousands of excited male youths who enjoyed reading her best-selling comic series, Midorikage. Having dreamed of following the footsteps of her late mother, Midori studied theatre at the mere age of 8 and eventually got her first big break starring as the titular heroine of live-action adaptation of her own comic, Agent of Justice - Midorikage. The show proved to be an overnight hit as the show remained within the Top 5 hit shows throughout its 18-months on air, ending off at 1st place since the 5 Finale episodes.

However, not content with living her life of luxury silently, Midori took to the one thing she desired of most - crime-fighting. With that, she took on the very alter-ego she envisaged in her manga to become the eponymous heroine, scouring the streets of Saint Olivie fighting for justice. Sadly, in a city famous for its zero-percent crime rates, owing to its position as the headquarters for the nation's State Security agency, the Schild, all of Midori's efforts were either wasted on empty nights or hapless accidents. Nevertheless, the courageous girl, determined to punish evildoers abroad, will not rest until her crusade is done.

Image

Name:Kurenai Kātsuga (三京日 紅, Kātsuga Kurenai)
Occupation:
  • Colonel in the Foreign Intelligence Service (Dolch)
Age: 41
Born: Saint Olivie, Province of Belka
Race: Fuso
Species: Humanity
Marital Status: Married
Biography: A secretary working in Wolfenium's foreign intelligence service, the Dolch, Kurenai is no stranger to the world of espionage. Short-tempered and ill-mannered, Kurenai ironically lacked the patience and calm needed in her line of work. Her deceptively young appearance had only fueled her outrage as countless strangers mistake her for the sister of super teen idol Midori, rather than her mother. A fire mage with exceptional capabilities, Kurenai's power was manifested in her appearance as her jet black hair and brown eyes would turn crimson upon activation. Formerly an mage in the Schwert, she was pressed into the Dolch for a covert mission with her unwitting colleague and future husband, Kuroi, a mission which rapidly turned into a farce. If anything, her subsequent protests and relegation to desk duty only made her temper worse.

Not surprisingly though, Kurenai has shown a softer side to her otherwise fiery personality. Caring deeply for her husband and only daughter, Kurenai is fiercely defensive of her family at all times. Though she often broke out in scuffles with her equally ill-tempered daughter, the two were nonetheless very close. Despite a lack of respect for her mild-mannered husband, she will remain by his side through thick and thin, ever ready to support him. For all her shortcomings as a person, Kurenai was still a wife and a mother. And should anyone dared harm her family, one can expect to face the full wrath of her anger in due time.

House of Aeronard
Blades of the Wind (Lames du Vent)

Family Background: An age old clan of Sapphirian merchants, the Aeronards are fairly recent immigrants in the Imperial Fatherland, tracing back to a mere 70 years of Wolfen heritage. Like all immigrants, the Aeronards faced discrimination from the majority Wolfen Ruberian population, often having to struggle in their climb up the social ladder. It was only recently that the Aeronards gained formal recognition, via their efforts in the First Astoli War, although some suspect a more personal relationship between them and the current royal family, the Wolfensteins. Nevertheless, their newly achieved noble status is by no means easily achieved and so long as there are those out there that continue to pin them down, they will continue to fight on... until they are finally true equals to the old Ruberian elite.

Image

Name:Fye Darren de Aeronard
Occupation:
  • Chief Conductor in the Wolfsburg Imperial Military Orchestra
  • Composer
  • Songwriter
  • Oberst/Colonel in the Wolfen Imperial Army
Age: 32
Born: Köln, Province of Weintraube
Race: Sapphirian
Species: Humanity
Marital Status: Single
Biography:A famed composer and songwriter, Fye obtained doctorate honours in music from the Saint Olivie University of the Arts, thanks to his natural flair for music and a very keen ear. A vain, flamboyant and colourful patriarch of the family, he is, among many others, a source of annoyance for the young emperor Karl. Nevertheless, he struck up a strong friendship with Karl, fighting alongside the emperor on several occasions during the First Astoli War.

Image

Name:Stellar Louise de Aeronard
Occupation:
  • Unemployed
  • Oberleutnant/First Lieutenant in the Wolfen Imperial Army
Age: 30
Born: Köln, Province of Weintraube
Race: Sapphirian
Species: Humanity
Marital Status: Single
Biography:The younger sister of the family, Stellar possesses the same vain attitude as her brother and family. A typical socialite, her hobbies include shopping, makeovers and lavish parties. But behind her ditzy appearance lies a political kingmaker. While her brother is more preoccupied with military and orchestral duties, she is the mastermind behind the scenes, forging relations with businessmen, lawmakers and other nobles as she sought to further expand the Aeronards' influence in the country. Her one hope, however, was to achieve what no other immigrant noble family has ever done - create the first non-Ruberian royal dynasty. For this to be a reality, she would have to use every ounce of cunning to outsmart not only the other nobles, but also the heirs within the royal family - a feat which is by no means easy...

Like all immigrants, however, they were treated with contempt and disregard, even to this day. Yet, their service to the crown was invaluable, earning a fearsome reputation on the battlefield. Be it against the corsairs of Sebelkeh, the Fusou rebels or the Amythysians, the warriors of Green would always devote their lives to the defence of their new homeland and their protectors.

House of Paulus
Banner of the Nationalists

Image
Name:Sibylle Kathrin Paulus
Titles:Archduchess of Stahlhof
Occupation:
  • Chancellor of the Wolfen Reichstag
  • Graduate from the Wolfsburg Military Academy
Age: 36
Born: Stahlhof Estate, Edenburg, Eden Province
Race: Ruberian
Species: Humanity
Marital Status: Widowed
Political Affiliation: Nationalists
Biography: Like many of Wolfenium's upper class nobles, Sibylle Paulus is a hardened nationalist who firmly supports the continued progress of the Fatherland and its military machine. A gifted orator and debator, Paulus was said to be destined for a thriving political career. Ascending the chancellery after the demise of her predecessor, Reiner Falken, Paulus had quickly filled the seat with little effort. Though less hardline than most of her subordinates, Chancellor Paulus is more than willing to use police or even military force to restore order to the nation. Having lost her husband to the First War, her resolve to punish the Amythysian aggressors burns stronger than ever. However, loyal to the emperor, she would, in her own words, stoop as low as to settle a peace deal with the Commonwealth. However, with her hawkish stance and propagandistic tone, Chancellor Paulus could prove a problematic obstacle for peace for the cautious emperor.

House of Honecker
The Defence Mastermind

Family Background: The military had always been the heart of the Honecker clan. Be it as weapons merchants for the Imperial Defence Force, or as commanders on the battlefield, the Honeckers had always lived for the soldier's life. Among the most loyal of Wolfenium's citizenry, the Honeckers are patriots in their own right. Nationalistic and fervent royalists, they detest any who ran suspect of questioning their oath to the state and the Emperor. However, such sentiments bordered on racist tendencies, as the clan became infamous for its seditious attitude towards ethnic minorities, primarily during the Fuso Uprising. Seen as a shameful vestige of Wolfenium's subservience to their northern enemy, Amythyst, the Honeckers abhor the presence of the Empire's vast immigrant communities. It was with such sentiments, and with the weapons they sold, which earned them the nickname 'the Merchants of Death'. True enough, the weapons they sold to the state were a common sight in some of the bloodiest scenes in Wolfenium's history.

But there is a sign of a conscience in this otherwise cold and seditious clan. Its sole heir, Sigurd, became a politician to depart from the life led by his ancestors. Though prejudicial, Sigurd showed less of the contempt displayed by his predecessors towards the minorities than himself. Even his attitude towards minorities stemmed not from the indoctrination poured on earlier generations, but from the chaos and destruction of the First Astoli War. Even then, he had still held on to whatever humanity had not been burnt in the flames of battle.

Perhaps... there is room for love in a clan that had learnt to accept nothing but hate...

Occupation:
  • Minister of Defence of the Wolfen Reichstag
  • Major of the Wolfen Imperial Army
  • Graduate from the Wolfsburg Military Academy
  • Leader of the National Democrats
Age: 34
Born: Honecker Estate, Friedrichstadt, Edenburg, Eden Province
Race: Ruberian

Biography: A proud, wealthy man of prestigious upbringing, Sigurd was a master of bargaining and debate. A playboy and a spendthrift in his youth. Sigurd had spent his life on the fast lane, partying hard without a care in the world. Living with his father, a veteran of the Fuso insurgent uprising, Sigurd grew up believing in the superiority of the Fatherland and its native Ruberian bloodline. He detested minorities and foreigners like a plague and showed utmost contempt for their plight. Brandishing a pair of captured swords from a Fuso insurgent leader, Sigurd was a master of swordsmanship, honing his fighting and tactical skills in the military academy to great effect. Now, with the military at his call, Sigurd now possesses the entire defence plan for the empire in his hands.

But time had slowly changed him, and with his trusting business partner and friend Aurel Silber by his side, he had mellowed down for some part. As his responsibilities compounded, Sigurd now found himself being pursued by problems he had left behind in his frivolous past. Now stuck with a mysterious young companion of an isolated island tribe by his side, Sigurd must now endure the indignity of his allies' and opponents' scrutiny and ridicule. Still, he remains loyal to the party and the nation, and with Paulus and his own ego egging him on, Sigurd may be compelled to defend his nation once again. Should the time comes, Sigurd could may as well follow his true call, as he sends the legions of the Fatherland into battle, against the northern enemies of the Reich.

Name: Nonno
Title: Princess of the Eclipse Tribe
Age: 18
Born: Cupray-Mosir (Eclipse Island), Western Edoin Ocean
Race: Edoin Islander
Species: Humanity
Marital Status: Single (Legal); Married (Unconfirmed)
Biography: A princess from a remote island in the far eastern oceans, Nonno was only four when she was rescued from vicious headhunters. Her saviours were a pair of ghost-like entities, one of whom possessed 'divine' powers, and another with blades unlike anything her people had ever seen. The child, who had never seen outsiders in her entire life, was immediately entranced by the skill and beauty of the latter warrior. The strangers, thought to be deities sent by the heavens, were immediately brought back to the village to celebrate their arrival and triumph, with a set of gifts in return. The chief, her father, who was especially impressed with the swordsman's bravery, quickly betrothed his daughter, while his 'patron', 'the god who wielded the light', was to receive ten times as many wives. The tribesmen assumed they had come to stay, but no sooner did they arrive did the heavens come to spirit them away in a 'silvery bird'. At first, the princess assumed that this will be the last she would see of the warrior. Little did they know that 'heaven' could be reached fairly easily...

Twelve years on, and Nonno had grown into a quiet and beautiful young girl. With the encounter with the 'deities' fresh in her father's mind, he sought to find out more about the 'Land of the Gods'. It did not take him long to find out how to reach that land. Bringing back to his tribe the innovations used by the deities, he had his daughter boxed in and flown in another silver bird to the heavens to meet with her fiance - the 'deity' known only as Sig. However, her arrival would prove a huge eye-opener.

Her fiance, known in full as Sigurd Honecker, was by his own admission, a mere man, as was his 'patron' and best friend, Aurel Silber. Though different in appearance, he was no less mortal than Nonno herself. Apprehensive, nervous and ill-tempered, Sig denied having willingly taken her hand in marriage, expressing utmost reluctance and shock at her presence. This strange land they live in, Astol, was a place said to be more comparable to hell than heaven, and the vast 'tribe' he belonged to, the Wolfeners, was one beset by war and destruction, faced with a dangerous and powerful enemy to the north. And yet, he was a man with great responsibility, one who shouldered a burden to the 'tribe' he sought to protect. Bold, ambitious, and yet loyal to his 'chief' and 'tribespeople', he would do anything to defend their land and their way of life, even at the risk of losing his own. This was the kind of warrior Nonno had seen that day, one who would protect the innocent against all odds. This was the man she hoped to marry one day.

Winning his affection would not be easy. The people who rally around him abhor her presence like a plague, her identity as an outsider a sight for spite by his fellow 'ghost-men'. The warrior himself felt put off by her advances, insisting that she leave and let he himself find another within his 'tribe' to take as his bride. However, Nonno refused to give up. She felt a connection with the young warrior, a sense of justice that she saw firsthand. She refused to believe he was the biased, self-centered bastard he proclaim himself to be. At the urgings of his friend Aurel, Nonno would try her hardest to find a way inside his heart. Just as the warrior himself unlocked the closed heart inside her that fateful night, she would help find a way to unlock his...

House of Meerhart-Silber
The Koln Harlequins

Family Background: Descendants of a long line of acrobatic and stage performers, the Silbers' rise to aristocracy had been a long and tedious affair. Infamous for their pronounced femininity, the Silbers were often seen as the fringe of a noble class which took pride in military and warrior tradition. Their past lineage as members of the former Principality's enigmatic harlequin assassins only amplified their reputation.

However, the Silbers were no sloths. Master entrepreneurs, many in the clan made a name in the field of business. To them, there is only one philosophy worth holding; 'There are many shortcuts to success; one need only to look for them." And for the Silbers, finding these shortcuts were taken to an art form. Even after the abolishment of the nobility, the heirs of the Silber family continue to make their mark in the corporate landscape. It was with that tenacity and eccentric flair that had so defined the Silber that will continue to define the affluence and success of the family.

Age: 24
Born: Silber Estate, Ehrlich Quay Riverside, Koln, Weintraube Province

Biography: Stepbrother to Geert and Heinkel, Aurel's personality outright contrasted those of his family. Tough-talking, snide and outright cocky, Aurel would go through every length to disprove his family's effeminate reputation. Ironically, it was his mother, locomotives magnate Ingrid Meerhart, who influenced him to take the initiative against the clan norms. With that initiative, he inherited his mother's firm, Meerhart-Silber Locomotives, transforming it from a simple railway company to one of the Empire's leading defence contractors in the region.

House of Mittenwald
The Man Behind

Family Background:

Image

Name: Orel von Mittenwald
Titles: N/A
Occupation:
  • Minister of Trade of the Wolfen Reichstag
  • High Admiral of the Wolfen Imperial Navy
  • Graduate from the Wolfsburg Military Academy for Strategic Sciences
  • Member of the Nationalist Party
Age: 53
Born: Ingersleben, Kristallin Province
Race: Ruberian
Species: Humanity
Marital Status: Single
Political Affiliation: Nationalists
Biography: A sullen, pale middle-aged man, Orel von Mittenwald plays the part of a stoic royal advisor, whose cold logic and reason has the ability to both convince and outrage his listeners at the same time. A ruthless, calculating politician, Mittenwald measures practically everything, even human lives, by material costs and numbers. Formerly the Minister of Defence before Honecker took the reins, his Machiavellian policies included the counteroffensive and occupation of southern Halkenginia, the scorched-earth and encirclement policy aimed at starving out the Amythysian invaders on Wolfen soil, and the authorization of use of a magical equivalent of a nuclear strike to shatter the Amythysian counteroffensive at Bruhl. As a result, thousands, if not millions of civilians on both sides perished as a result of his planning. But having put the salvation of the nation as his utmost priority, Mittenwald remained unflinching in his belief that the sacrifices of these 'few' were but necessary steps to preserve the lives of many more Wolfen soldiers, and to ensure a quick and decisive end to Amythysian aggression.

Still, despite committing his actions in the best interest of the Empire, Mittenwald remains a target of hate for many of the empire's citizens, who viewed him as a cancerous presence in the imperial cabinet. And yet, none dared to dispute the logic behind his decisions and methods, solely because they were the right course of actions. Not bound by morality and unfettered by his fellows' disgust for him, Mittenwald believes only in doing what is best for Wolfenium. As long as he remains a critical part of the government, he will continue to find and execute the most efficient methods to achieve the emperor's ambitions.

House of Machiavelli
The Hidden Eye

Family Background:Like many immigrant settlers in the Empire, the Machiavelli family fled from the neighbouring Republic of Vinchi amid the instability of social order at home. Unable to cope with the uncertainties of civil anarchy, they chose to accept the draconian order of the Wolfen state to the vast liberties granted to them in their home. However, faced with discrimination by the largely ethnic Ruberian population, the common middle-class family found themselves sidelined by a nation suspicious of the outside world.

However, under the rule of the Wolfenstein dynasty, one Machiavelli would soon climb up the chain of command within the imperial military, becoming of its principal researchers in medicine and a master of forbidden magic and technology. However, under the weight of scrutiny by the imperial military, one would question whether he should present his knowledge to his Wolfen paymasters, and risk execution under the law...

Name: Nicolò Evaristo Machiavelli
Occupation:
  • Head of Genetics in the University of Saint Olivie
  • Medical Officer in the Iron Cross Headquarters in Saint Olivie
  • Genetics Researcher in Project Walküre
Age: 30
Born: San Jose, Vinchi Republic
Race: Sapphirian
Species: Humanity
Marital Status: Single
Biography: An immigrant from the Republic of Vinchi in the Agarian Federation, Nicolò is a man long past his prime. Once an idealist driven to push his own limits to perfection, he has long settled down in his comfortable job as a military doctor. However, his skills as a general practitioner indicated nothing of his true abilities, as his skills as a geneticist greatly exceeded the limits put in place by law.

As a child, Nicolò faced discrimination from the local Ruberian populous for his ethnic background. As a foreign-born Wolfen, Machiavelli was shunned and bullied by his peers for his appearance and accent. Born into an average middle-class family, a quiet but driven Machiavelli, developed an interest in genetics and forged a close friendship with an inspired young engineer, Albrecht Sankt. Soon after, he left for Saint Olivie and entered into the University of Saint Olivie, where he worked with the likes of Eugen Dietrich. It was there that Machiavelli developed an obsession with beauty and perfection, gaining a newfound fascination with the local magical arts and their users, the Belkan Combat Mages.

Shortly after gaining his degree, he joined his friend Sankt in his secret research facility in Eden to hone his skills in genetic manipulation and cloning. Young and full of drive, the aspiring expert knew nothing of the dire penalties for tapping into forbidden magic and sciences; all Nicolò fretted about was fine-tuning his skills to perfection. Sadly, differences in their goals became very evident. While Albrecht sought only to create companions for himself to make up for the family he never had, Nicolò aspired to become a creator of perfection.

However, Machiavelli's partnership with Sankt was cut short as the first shots of the First Astoli War were fired. Leaving the facility to join the war effort, Nicolò enlisted in the Imperial Army and became a medical officer in Saint Olivie, helping local doctors in treating the wounded in the besieged city. He was among the medical staff evacuated from the city shortly before its full encirclement. It was there that he developed a lingering obsession - the mistress of the Tome of the Night Sky, the ethnic Fuso Belkan mage, Hayate Yagami. Saved by the young mage from assaulting Amythysian soldiers, he saw in her a goddess without parallel. Though paraplegic as a normal child, Hayate's mastery of ancient magic and her possession of such boundless power won over Machiavelli, a passion which bordered on worship. It was this obsession that would forever cement his future in the military and the Order.

After the war, Nicolò joined the Order Schild's research wing, following the footsteps of Lieutenant Colonel Yagami. With his drive for self-improvement now mellowed by the realities of adulthood, Nicolò had long settled in his life as a resident medical officer in the Iron Cross Headquarters. Unfortunately for him, his past as a genetics expert was fast catching up to him. Between the choice of collaboration with the imperial military and execution by law, the young doctor soon found himself deep inside the web of secrecy and deceit...

Name: Stella Machiavelli
Alias: Sei (Japanese:星)
Occupation: Nicolò's personal assistant
Age: 21 (chronologically 11)
Born: East Ronan Valley, Province of Belka
Race: Fuso
Species: Humanity (Modified)
Marital Status: Single
Biography: A product of Nicolò's former experiments, Sei's existence is a mix of accident and providence. A product of his infatuation with his young saviour, his drive for self-improvement and his spite for the lengthy war, Sei is a prideful egotist, who believes herself to be a work of perfection. Doting to her master and creator, her loyalty borders on pure obsession and psychotic desire. Coveting the love and affection of her creator, Nicolò, she held nothing but contempt for the woman she was created from, Hayate. Cynical and sarcastic, she enjoys meddling with the minds of the people around her, often playing on their own ego and remark patronizingly at her targets. A crafty vixen, she is not above using her own sexuality and wits to get her way, often to the chagrin of Nicolò. A bonafide actress, her excitable portrayals as an innocent, troubled young clone to gain the sympathies of others troubled even her creator. In short, Sei is a hedonist unhindered by sentient standards of morality and virtue. In her mind laid only her master. In her heart rang only her undying devotion to him.

Sei's origins lay tied with Nicolò's frustrations over the pointless conflict of the First Astoli War. Having encountered the Belkan mage Hayate in a harrowing rescue, Nicolò was bought over by the sheer power of her magic. However, on further study, he soon realized that her inexperience meant that she could not cast any spell with any less yield than a high explosive bomb, or any spell that did not require lengthy casting. It was then he was struck with a daring plan. Having treated her in a military hospital for minor injuries, Nicolò had secretly smuggled samples of her blood to a hideout in the East Ronan Valley in Belka, during his leave. There, with the equipment he brought from Eden, he sought to commit the unthinkable - cloning a live sentient being. Despite his tests back in Eden with animal test subjects, Nicolò had never tried such a feat with sentient beings. But due to the small spaces of time he could check on his creation's progress, there proved to be a high risk of failure. As Amythysian forces were set for a breakthrough into the Ronan valley, he was forced to abandon his hideout, blasting the cave in haste to destroy the equipment in an attempt to cover up his actions.

However, a few days after he was recalled back to his unit, his division was cut off by an Amythysian breakthrough into the valley, encircling his camp and leaving him at risk of being killed or captured by the enemy. Under orders to evacuate wounded soldiers back to friendly forces, his convey was ambushed and captured by a band of Amythysian soldiers. Despite his status as a non-combatant, the young medic was confronted with the prospect of torture and death in the hands of the rogue conscripts. Watching as his comrades were butchered at the soldiers' delight one by one, Nicolò feared his was next. As he found himself saved for last by the savage conscripts, he found his captors assaulted and torn apart by a mysterious assailant in the shadows, vast vines of ribbons piercing through their bodies like drills as the squad was annihilated in seconds. At first, as the medic tried to make out his small saviour, he mistook the mage for Hayate. However, when the word 'master' came out of her mouth, he soon realized her true identity. His sudden callback to his unit left him no time to confirm the destruction of the hideout's equipment. Instead of shutting it down, he had allowed it to operate on its own, opting to take down the facility straight out. But the explosive he smuggled out to blast the hideout proved to be mostly duds, destroying only the entrance itself. The result was the completion of his latest and most successful project - Sei.

Designed for close combat, Sei's attacks with her scythe and death ribbons fitted perfectly with her penchant for assassination. Able to teleport via a magic rift at will, Sei gives the impression of a cross between a Cheshire and Schrodinger's cat. Rarely dropping her perpetual smile, her inner malice exhumes a sense of fear and suspicion to everyone around her. Serving as his personal assistant, Sei came to represent a past Nicolò desired to forget. A fanatic with psychopathic undertones, Sei did not hesitate to kill anyone who got close to exposing their secrets. Even against the orders of her master, Sei would struggle to put Nicolò's wishes above her own. Though she often tried to masquerade as an airheaded, devoted slave to her master, the acts she committed in his name failed to fool him the least. Still, Nicolò's fears of a backlash, and his own lack of raw power to fight against her left him with no other option. Taking her in as his assistant, he must now contend with the prospects of living with Hayate's doppelganger - a poltergeist he would continue to regret spawning in the first place...

House of Sommer
The Fallen Lions

Family Background:Once one of the most powerful dynasty of the Empire, the rule of the Sommers had been characterized as the best and worst of Wolfenium's time. From the Golden Age of the Centennial Emperor Otto Friedrich to the decadence of his predecessor and half-brother Emperor Wolfgang, the Sommers had ruled over the former Kingdom of Eden and later the Empire for generations. Their past, though the stuff of envy for its glory, had been paved in the blood of others, including their own kinsmen. However, the fortune of the clan took the turn for the worst since the loss of the royal crown and their botched coup against the family that robbed it, the Wolfensteins. With most of their heads executed for treason and mass murder, few remained of the once proud clan that once control the center of Astol. And yet, those who cling on remained determined to live on. With the troubles of succession simmering in the White Citadel, few would wonder whether the Sommers would make their return to the web of imperial politics...

Sommer-Eizenhollern Branch
A cadet branch of the Sommers, the Sommer-Eizenhollern's lineage traces back to one of Eden's famed Dreilöwen, King Reinhart Sommer of Eden and his consort, Queen Josephine Lucia of Kylarnatia's Francis dynasty, during the turbulence of the Wolfen Civil War. The family, who had once inherited and expanded the reaches of the Kingdom throughout Wolfenium, found themselves forced out into the political wilderness with the death of the king and the ascent of another of the Dreilöwen, Wolfgang Sommer-Gensch, as emperor. Being a rival branch to the imperial family, the Sommer-Eizenhollerns were among the many branches singled out for Wolfgang's intra-clan purge. Seeking refuge in the Vinchi Republic, the Sommer-Eizenhollerns would not return to see their homeland until the rise of the remaining Dreilöwen, Otto Friedrich Sommer-Ingolstadt, on the imperial throne.

Among the branches of the former royal clan, only the Sommer-Eizenhollerns maintained ties with the current dynastic rulers of the country, the Wolfensteins. Viewed as a fringe group in the dynastic line, they were nonetheless ostracised by their more ambitious kinsmen. In the end, though, it was the choice of siding with the Kaiser that spared the family. Informing the authorities of the arson plot by his clan, the patriarch of the branch, Heino Sommer, was able to prove their loyalties to the crown against their own treacherous brethren. Despite this, the aftermath of the arson marked the entire clan, including Heino and his family, as traitors, forcing them to the fringes of Wolfen society regardless of whether their innocence or guilt. Unable to take the stigma, Heino took his wife and only child overseas, dying a depressed and forlorn man in self-imposed exile. With the mantle now passed his daughter, Adele, it is now up to her to decide the path her family would follow.

Name: Adele Ephrath Sommer
Title:
  • Matriarch of the Sommer-Eizenhollern
Age: 19
Born: Château de Améthyste, Ingersleben, Kristallin Province
Race: Ruberian
Species: Humanity
Marital Status: Single
Biography: A single child born in one of Wolfenium's oldest estates, Adele seemed every bit of the upper class noble her clan was famed for. Skeptical and sharp witted, Adele was a firm pragmatist and meritocrat, intolerant of soothsayers and stooges. Having spent her life in the bloodstained web of dynastic politics, Adele had grown to distrust the words of others, scrutinizing and questioning the motives and goodwill of others. To that effect, however, she had grown to rely on the trust and childhood friendship of, perhaps ironically, a Wolfenstein - Grand Duchess Eva Lilith.

Living in self-imposed exile in the Wolfen embassy in Kylarnatia, Adele was quick to exploit her connections with the nation's ancient dynasty to get by. A perpetual freeloader under what was effective the home of the Krausers, the girl proved to be a constant annoyance to the embittered ambassador Mihael Krauser. But behind the seemingly carefree facade was a woman intent on returning to her homeland with pride. Weighing in on her dear friend's promise to ascend to the throne, Adele would do all she could to advance Eva's aims. As she awaited the coming change to sweep the Fatherland, Adele herself would hope for the day she would be welcome among her people once again...
