Shekel, like the Israeli currency. Plural is shkelim, it's a Hebrew word. "Shekels" is understood but will mark you as foreign.

Oh boy. Uhhh...

ÓCE
[(high) growl][click][(atonal) chirp]

It's a rather cheerful-sounding currency because it's also a popular, even culturally central, narcotic.

Incidentally, I will pay* anyone who can accurately pronounce it and record it.

*Not really. But I will publicly thank them and give them an honourable spot in my factbook and other relevant areas as they appear. Well, actually, know what, if someone really was able to do a good job of it, and I could do so without disclosing my location, I would pay them. It would be so worth it.

Taco. Just like the Mexican food. In fact, it is the Mexican food, but we here at Bobs Taco Shack have claimed this delicacy in the name of.. well.. Bob. Anyway, Taco, pronounced Ta-ko, or Tak-o, can also be pronounced Tay-ko, Tah-key, Tah-koh, or Tahy-kao. Those who speak in the extreme dialects of the country pronounce it in such a way. It should be said that most of those who do pronounce it in such a way are generally imbibed, inebriated, or just plain stupid. :)

I'd be more worried about them mispronouncing the name of the country (sVEE-toe-me-ERR-tsa) than its currency (Mark <.<).

Crown

Start with a "Cr" like in "Crow"
Continue with an "Ow" like in "Ow"
Finish off with an "N" like in "Nnnnn", but shorter.

Thats all for todays lesson in Harberian currency pronunciations. Tomorrow, the Pence.
