Being ugly builds character, and character makes you successful. If they had an ugly pill I would gladly take it myself, I sure as hell could use some ugly looks, perhaps a more gaunt face, some jowls, some slightly yellowed teeth.

Tried it. I have hedonism days every month to help keep me going, I generally smoke a ton, drink a lot, and eat about 4000 calories worth of spicy delicious food. The next few days are the most horrible thing imaginable, but it is worth it in the end. A list of things I have tried doing to make myself less attractive.

1. Getting into fights. I went to public school so getting into fights wasn't hard, but I do not suffer anything that causes long term damage, my bones don't break, so no broken noses or anything and any cuts I get heal completely.
2. Drinking. Don't do it every day but I drink a nearly lethal amount of alcohol on my hedonism days. Plus I plan on living forever so I can't destroy my liver unless I can start stealing other people's.
3. Smoking, my mother's side of the family has a long history of smoking, and of being ugly, I adopted the former hoping to pick up the latter, unfortunately I simply lost weight, nothing more. Now I only smoke on my fancy days, and even then it is only a cigar, a pipe, or through those long black cigarette holders.
4. Eating lots of food. I eat the same thing every day, which totals about 3000 calories, I could eat more outside of my hedonism days, but why bother, I'm not hungry?
5. Not brushing my teeth. I could, but it is too uncivilized even more me.

Now I have an urge to make a thread on hedonism and fancy days to see if I can get other people to start doing it. It is great. A whole day spent doing whatever you want regardless of the consequences. "Will I get a hangover?" Who cares? "Will I shit blood from eat so much Mexican food?" Probably! "Am I going to end up in prison for harassing random motorists with sexual motions while naked?" Yes, yes you will. As for the latter a whole day being fancy, dress up like a civilized person, make sure to speak properly, look down on poor people, eat expensive food even if it tastes like shit and make sure to discuss things fancy people do for small talk, like politics and not getting angry.

Also, you can generally tell when I am having a hedonism or fancy day online, during the former I will drunkenly post talking about shit (literal shit) or New Nicksyllvania back during the good old days, during fancy days I made that dueling thread that nothing ever came of.

I just reread what little I could find about Leonid Kurchevsky and his early recoilless rifles - so, having those as a major factor in the late 30s, would that make sense? Replacing antitank-rifles and infantry guns both with these? Called "Dynamo-jet Guns" these apparently were quite the thing in early 30s soviet russia.

On a completely unrelated note. Say you had a metal rod with a slightly sharpened tip. The rod is 60mm in diameter and 300mm long. How difficult do you consider it would be to drive said rod into the ground so that it is completely driven in (nothing sticking out)? Bonus points. Asses it for various ground conditions.

The idea is to have a metal "spear" as the one i described filled with TNT with a jumping charge on the bottom. You drive the pile into the ground, attach a fuse and it's ready to go. When someone steps on it the thing waits a few seconds and than goes all bouncing betty on the poor sap with a continuous rod charge for maximum effect.

If it has a sharp tip, if it can be hit with a sledge hammer, if the ground is soft, sand, or bed rock. Its a lot to account for.

'Shell shock' properly refers to combat stress, which is just as possible in space as it is on the ground. If you mean the stunning effect of a high-explosive round going off nearby, it won't send a normal atmospheric pressure wave, but the expanding debris and shrapnel cloud, combined with the flash of detonation can be just as disorienting, particularly since space itself tends to be disorienting.

Why a continuous-rod warhead? HE frag would be more useful against infantry. I know you specified CR for a reason, I'm simply inquiring as to what that reason is.
