Nationstates Travel Guide (CO-OP Needed)

Postby Cyborg Holland » Fri Aug 26, 2011 2:41 am

I have nothing to do at the moment, so I thought that it might be a fun idea to create a guide for tourists for the nations and cities of NS. All you have to do is fill out either a Nation form, City form, or district/county/region form, then I will add them to the index. This is purely an RP exercise, but I might do some-sort of International Tourism Competition.

I need a Co-Op to process forms whilst I'm not around... Just ask

Kalaspia-Shimarata's flag represents the Union between K&S. The dark blue represents the sea and the light blue represents the sky. In Kalashi language considers light blue and dark blue to be different colours. England colonised, and unified K&S, between 1774 and 1953, and English, light blue and dark blue are considered to be the same colour. Therefore, the contrast between dark blue and light blue represents the union, but the differences between K&S where as blue being two but simultaneously one colour represents K&S being two, but simultaniously one entity. The opposite to the symmetry represents the unity and indipendance of K&S, whilst also representing the Kalashi culture of opposite symmetry.KS is 75% Christian, hence the cross.

Okay, our well travelled man will now travel your nations and review them.

Valcluse:

Our Traveller flew into the airport at Marseille Provance International, where he indulged in a nice portion of Fatoux in an airport restaurant. He loved the dish and had it as often as possible. Then he travelled to the Capital and went to the lavish presidential palace and a traditional Market, where he bought something he didn't need. Then he went to the beach in Cannes, the water was clear, blue and a lovely temperature. He also did a bit of skiing, which was very well organised and his hotel was luxurious. He then took a trip back to the capital on an overnight train, which was comfortable and stylish, if not a little overpriced. He then left from Toulon on a Cruise ship.

Stuff to do: 7/10
Accomadatiom: 9/10
Travel: 7/10
Food: 8/10

Total: 31/40

Do you advise going here?: Yes, an extended stay to get all the wonderful things in.

Asumbouy

Our Traveller came to Asumbouy by boat and landed in a large port on the eastern coast, but there were few signs and it was complicated to get around the towns and cities. Unfortunately, it rained a lot, so he wasn't able to experience the beaches that the nation had to offer, but he did enjoy gambling in the casinos, which were many. He watched a game of rugby at the Aurora, a dazzling stadium, and went to a farmers market then drove along the flat, comfortable roads back to Haitio and flew back, arranged by Travel Asumbouy.

Stuff to do: 6/10
Accommodation: 7/10
Travel: 8/10
Food: 6/10

Total: 27/40

Would you Advise going here: Yes, I liked it very much

Albicia

Our traveller flew in on a military jet, as it was not safe to land in anything else. As he entered the crummy terminal, he was promptly assaulted and had his wallet stolen. He then travelled to his hotel In Claiborne, which he shared a room with rats and spiders and something odd under the cracked sink.... He then went to the wall of treachery, but it rained, and he was landed in hospital (a car with a mattress in it) for three days with 3rd degree burns. He sampled some local food, and was taken back home by air ambulance, which was shot at repeatedly.

Stuff to do: 1/10
Accommodation: 1/10
Travel: 2/10
Food: 0/10

Total: 4/40

Would other people like to go here?: Get away from this hellhole, FAST.

Kalispa-Shimrata

Our traveller arrived in Ipsola after having several refreshing glasses of President Homer, which is strangely addictive. He the drove to his hotel next to a Fresca, along picturesque roads along canals. He sampled some local food, which was quite an acquired taste, but he could get used to it. He also went to a ski resort, which he enjoyed thoroughly, but there was a small terrorists event, when a car bomb failed to blow him up. The weather was a bit to hot for his liking in the tropical areas. He then took a tram-train back to Ipsola, and took the plane back.

Stuff to do: 7/10
Accommodation: 9/10
Travel: 6/10
Food: 5/10

Total: 27/40

Would you adivse other people to go there?: Yes, I think they'd enjoy the beaches and ski resorts

Good System of Roads:
Road conditions in Tsvarchi are exactly what one might expect in a city-state with billions of vehicles and over 3 million miles of roadway; various conditions dependent on road use and location. Tsvarchi's roadways are overall in good condition because of a significantly funded transportation department which is tasked with road maintenance, and although when you have over 3 million miles of paved roads and over a billion cars traveling on those millions of miles things won't always be smooth and perfect, for the most part it is. The government is quick to patch up any potholes or significant safety hazards which occur because people as well as cars have to traverse the streets, but it varies depending on street and location.

Western Tsvarchi tends to have better road conditions than eastern Tsvarchi, and northern Tsvarchi tends to have better road conditions than southern Tsvarchi. Some of the worst kept roads in Tsvarchi are in the borough of Cuerak, whereas the best kept roads overall are in Darkaan. Tsvarchi's entire roadway network is repaved every decade or so, at a cost of about $100 billion.

There is also an excellent 1900 mile interborough unlimited speed expressway system which connects all the boroughs together via coastal roads along the perimeter of the country, one of the most scenic routes in the nation.

Good System of Railways:
The country's public transportation infrastructure is vast and comprehensive, with an extensive high speed underground rail network encompassing 120,000 subway stations across the city divided between commuter and express trains departing a station every 15 minutes. Express trains are super high speed trains which travel to and from specific points nonstop, whereas commuter trains are less quick, but also stop at more stations along the route. Some 8.1 billion people use the subway every single day.

The cost of train fare is $0.95 for a commuter ticket, $1.25 for express.

National Specialties (food):

Tsvarchivan cuisine is pescetarian - meaning it excludes all kinds of meat except fish and shellfish. Tsvarchivan cuisine takes it a step further and abstains entirely from animal based products, so eggs, milk, and anything else that has an animal byproduct and component is not used. Of course with the arrival of immigrants some 300 years ago cuisine in Tsvarchi has become more varied and diverse, including adapting foreign foods to Tsvarchivan standards, and vice versa.

Tsvarchivan cuisine is known for being rich and flavorful, utilizing liberal amounts of spices and seasonings, as well as having the notable trait of generally being steamed - frying and grilling is virtually unknown in Tsvarchivan cuisine. Some types of fish - like mahi-mahi and salmon - are grilled on occasion, and sauce is never poured directly on any food, but is placed in a small bowl for dipping.

There are types of aquatic animals which are forbidden from being fished - namely sharks, dolphins, turtles, and whales. All others are free to be fished and consumed. Individuals caught fishing these types of fish and aquatic life can be charged as much as $300/fish, as well as have various charges filed against them, namely murder. Apart from that, fishing is a popular hobby and way of life in Tsvarchi, attracting millions of people to the seas of Tsvarchi every day.

Many Tsvarchivan dishes are over brown rice - eel, salmon, mahi-mahi, crab, tuna, and flounder are popular. When not over rice, it is usually always accompanied by it on the side, with an alternative being some kind of vegetable - green beans, asparagus, broccoli, just to name a few. Foreign cuisine has also had a tremendous impact on Tsvarchivan cuisine, with many vegetarian Indian dishes becoming quite popular in Tsvarchi in more recent years, as well as varied Middle Eastern foods such as shawarma - adapted to Tsvarchivan dietary needs by substituting meat for fish.

Nation Name: The Social Republic and Scientific Collectives of Frenequesta
Capital City: Neue Bayreuth
Date Nation Founded: October 17, 2214 (yes, this is a future nation. If your traveler can't get there, pretend he or she can.)
Primary Airports/Ports/etc: Neue Bayreuth Intergalactic Air and Space Port is the hub for nearly all tourist traffic. Yang-Fischer Intergalactic, near Fox Dole Altar, is expected to take out a third of Neue Bayreuth's foreign air traffic, but only in a few years.
Good System of Roads: Roads are maintained at the state and local level, and are generally well paved. Many have wiring lines to keep electric cars well charged, and traffic is lighter than what may be expected due to a strong public transport system, especially in Neue Bayreuth.
Good System of Railways: Maglevs have been installed to make cross-city trips, although travelers between Neue Bayreuth and Fox Dole Altar are advised to fly due to malfunctioning currents of unknown origin on that line.
Points of Historic Interest: Frenequesta has few sites of historical significance due to the fact that has been formally founded only recently. It was not politically organized until all the major cities were built up just two years ago following a mass exodus from another planet, where much of our heritage lay in ruins. Nonetheless, the Horizon Monolith, near the center of Neue Bayreuth, does mark the site where the public ceremony was held to approve Frenequesta's constitution.
Points of Cultural Interest: The Rothermund State Opera House (Neue Bayreuth), Dustin Poeppelman Memorial Concert Hall (Neue Bayreuth), the Swiss District (a row of restaurants in Neue Bayreuth), Wake Point Arts Hall (an art museum in Denniston), Forkan Creek Ampitheater (Fox Dole Altar)
Points of Sporting Interest: Montgomery Public Golf Center (Denniston), Shane Cricket Grounds (Unirove, Plestoria)
Points of Political Interest: The Popular Legislature Building (Neue Bayreuth), any of the Ministry Buildings in Neue Bayreuth
Beaches?, If yes, Where?: Yes, Neue Bayreuth has a red-sanded beach on the ocean with a boardwalk, and Unirove a beach on Plestoria Lake, the largest freshwater body in Frenequesta.
Casinos, If yes, Where?: Gambling is a favorite pastime in Frenequesta, and nearly every major city has a casino. Most famous of which is the Easy Winners Resort Casino in Neue Bayreuth.
Ski Resorts?: None
National Specialites (food): Frenequestan Cuisine is a blend of Chinese and German styles, generally light on meat, often served with tangy sauces and sharp cheeses, and usually engineered or prepared for maximum nutrition. A typical, if more meat-heavy and fattening, example is the Mount Derrick, a dish with grilled or fried chicken stacked in the middle of a platter with alys findt cheese swirled around it, and served with fries on the outside of the "mountain".
Any laws tourists should know about?: Don't bring fossil fuel-powered vehicles, but otherwise be nice and observe contraband regulations. Smoking in public places is also illegal.
Climate?: The northern regions (near Fox Dole Altar) have an average temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, with moderate amounts of rainfall distributed evenly throughout the year. In the more southern areas (near Neue Bayreuth), it is considerably warmer, but a little drier.
Usual Weather?: It's cloudy most of the time, with the peak temperatures at the middle of the day and just before sunset.
Terrain: Frenequesta is rather flat, getting more hilly as one goes north from Neue Bayreuth, with a mountain range in the north near Fox Dole Altar.
Currency: the New Sync, which trades for .89 USD.
Languages: English, German, and Mandarin Chinese are known by everyone and often used interchangeably.
Economics Style?: A strongly regulated capitalist economy, which others may call "social market" but is somewhat less economically free than the archetypal German/Norse models.
Is There Corruption in your nation?: There is corruption in every nation. It is not very common at the higher levels of government and the bureaucracy, but customs officials will often take a "tip" to process tourists faster, although such tips don't work if you try to sneak in contraband such as illegal weapons, invasive species, or the like.
Major Tourism Related Companies?: The Braithwaite Group runs nearly 60% of the hotels in the nation, ranging from the economy-class chain Temptation Lodge to the ritzy accommodations with the Braithwaite Hotel and Suites, as well as the Easy Winners Resort Casino and Joplinia TourBus, a sightseeing company.
Terrorism in your Nation?: Terrorism is rare and usually of domestic groups such as the Liberty Front, who have been known to bomb major government buildings several times. However, they usually attack at hours when traffic is low to minimize injuries and deaths.

Nation Name:
The United States of ArghNeedAName
Capital City:
Ankh Morpork
Date Nation Founded:
25th May 1812
Primary Airports/Ports/etc:
Ankh Morpork has three major airports - Shipgrave, Ollerton and City. Stadhampton Airport is also very busy. Other major airports are located in Pseudopolis, Quirm, Bismouth, Logan, Chirm, Rexford and Peel.
Good System of Roads:
Yes. Major cities are linked up with motorways, which have an average of six lanes and a speed limit of 80mph. Roads are paved and generally well maintained. However, cities are often congested and parking in the central areas is scarce, so it is recommended to use "Park 'n' Ride" facilities if you are visiting a city centre. Car hire is expensive and fuel prices are similar to those in Europe. It should be noted that most motorways are toll roads and you should obtain a credit account for using the toll roads (if you don't, you'll get ripped off).
Good System of Railways:
Image
Yes. All major cities have now been connected by High Speed Rail, with long-distances routes operated by Federal Express. Pictured above is the Ankh Terminal, one of the largest railway stations in the country. Provincial governments operate the other routes. It is recommended you buy a Railcard to save money, as on-the-door fares are expensive. About 17 major cities have "Overground" (Commuter rail) networks, 5 have "Underground" (Heavy rail) networks and 14 have tram networks.
Points of Historic Interest:
Places of historical interest are plentiful, so I advise that you research them before visiting a town. Most major cities date from ancient times and many still have their medieval walls. There are
Points of Cultural Intrest:
Image
Ankh Morpork has a large number of museums dedicated to history and politics such as the Museum of the Morporkian Empire, which is devoted to ancient history and pictured above, the Natural History Museum, the Confederate Museum (19th Century - we call that the Confederate Era because the country was called the Confederation of ArghNeedAName - nothing to do with the US) and the City Gallery - all these major museums have free entry. Many provinces have museums relevant to their history. For example, Lancre is famed for its cheese and is home to the National Cheese Museum, while Hoelland is famous for beer has the National Beer and Spirits Museum.
Points of Sporting Interest:
The largest stadium is Rotmanning Stadium in Ankh Morpork, which seats 80,000 and is the site of the annual ArghNeedAName National Cup Final. Football is by far our favourite sport and matches in the National Cup and National League draw thousands of often rowdy spectators. We also enjoy Rugby, Cricket and Swimming.
Points of Political Interest:
Image
The majority of Federal Government buildings are located in Newmotte, Ankh Morpork. including the National Assembly (picture above) and government ministries. The Senate is based in the Palace of Ankh on the other side of the river, the Presidential Palace is located in Hide Park and the Federal Courts of Justice are located in the adjacent city of Sto Lat. Other highlights are the seats of provincial governments, such as the blue granite Kixas State Capitol, the elegant Palace of Quirmland and the confederate-gothic City Hall of Ankh Morpork.
Beaches?, If yes, Where?:
We have a large number of beaches on the southern coast. Even the big cities of Ankh Morpork, Pseudopolis and Quirm have beaches, but they are mostly shingle. Sandy beaches are not in short supply though. The best ones are located on the Malvornia Peninsula - they are quite busy, the further down you go, the quieter and less commercial they get. There are many other good ones on the coasts of Quirmland, Llamedos and the Malvornia Panhandle.
Casinos, If yes, Where?:
They can be found in several provinces. Malvornia and Chirmland have quite a lot of casinos and the most liberal gambling laws. Shipton, in the latter state, is dubbed the Gambling/Sin Capital of ArghNeedAName.
Ski Resorts?:
Yes, we do have ski resorts. The best slopes and resorts are located in West Carrackia, while the northern mountains in Gypusia and Nassia are great for cross-country skiing.
National Specialites (food):
Varies by province. I myself quite like the pies they do in Kerrighan.
Any laws tourists should know about?:
Tourists cannot own guns or carry guns and knives around in public. "Jaywalking" is commonplace and not illegal. Laws against littering are often very strict. Some provinces have outlawed smoking in public buildings - and even in public places.
Climate?:
Similar to the south of the England/north of France depending on which region you're in.
Usual Weather?:
Sunny or overcast
Terrain:
Mostly flat grassy plains with some hilly areas (small hilly areas are called downs, big hilly areas are called fells) and some mountains.
Currency:
Ankh Morpork Dollar (AM$ = 100 pence)
Languages:
Morporkian (same as English) is spoken in every province throughout the country. There are three minor languages - Pintic, Quirmian and Arish.
Economics Style?:
Capitalist
Is There Corruption in your nation?:
It's very rare
Major Tourism Related Companies?:
ArghNeedAName Ministry of Culture, VisitAnan, Federal Tourism, Anan Holidays
Terrorism in your Nation?:
The Arish Liberation Army (ALA) were responsible for many terrorist acts, due to their opposition to West Areland being part of ArghNeedAName. The official group disbanded in 2004 but there are a few offshoot groups, such as the Arish Perseverence Army and the Arish Replacement Army. In 2007, 32 people were killed in the bombing of the Pseudopolis Underground by one such group. A larger, similar plot in Ankh Morpork was thwarted in 2009.

Nation Name: The United States of Altruistic Paladins
Capital City: Mount Celestia
Date Nation Founded: June 21, 1376
Primary Airports/Ports/etc: Each city will have a international airport, and each city on the coast will have a port.
Good System of Roads: The USAP Highway, Freeway, and Route system is in-place as the premier national travel route for road vehicles the nation, while there are local road networks for cities, counties, preserves, and National Parks.
Good System of Railways: The USAP Rail Network is the premier rail network, being an elevated monorail which connects the nation, while.
Points of Historic Interest: Mount Celestia is the place where the ideals our nation was based on was born, the Order of Altruistic Paladins was formed there, which formed the United States of Altruistic Paladins in that city. You can visit historical landmarks, including a battlefield where largescale re-enactments are held of the siege of Mount Celestia, where a revolutionary tactic and a clever ploy routed power-hungry lords of a neighboring state, including a memorable moment where the President had went into battle on horseback and had fallen off the horse and into one of the lords himself, managing to fight his way out of the fight and back onto horse to get back to commanding forces. You could go to the Freeman's house, where re-enactments of the founding of the USAP are held in the same building it happened. Hattori is a city of major historical importance as this was where one of the deciding battles of the nation happened, where the people rebelled and fought against one of the governments that stood between the people and freedom. Due to being well preserved, there are spots where you can see re-enactments of various events, including the Silver Palace, where the Altruistic Paladins had used deception to trick them into falling back into the castle where spies had taken up position and set up traps, creating a unique scene of all the hinin, monks, and knights to take on the monarch's fist (personel legion) rebelling against the monarch had captured him and the force four times their own size, or visit the monastery where the monks had managed to defeat a enemy twice their size without killing a single person, or even the last stand of the seven knights who managed to hold off a force twenty sizes larger than them for thirteen minutes, allowing the forces which overthrew the monarch to regroup outside the city, winning the war later. In Kainotomía, you can visit some of the sites of the biggest shootouts in USAP, where re-enactments are held, with our personel favorite being the one of a baron from a far-away land, who had went light on safety features in a food processing area, nearly killing a influential farmer, who lead a bounty team made up of sheriff's deputies, ranchers, and the local universities' professors to arrest him in a battle of six-shooters and reapeating rifles, which encompassed a boom-town he escaped to alongside the thugs and bandits he hired to protect himself, leading to him getting arrested by a blind musician who knocked him to the ground with a tuning fork, with that memorable moment being part of the re-enactment as well.
Points of Cultural Intrest: While there are many as we are a multicultural people, and thus you can see many various locations which represent the cultural influences or were cultural influences or places where the culture is well established and thus a good place to learn about the culture. Mount Celestia was the center of the nation, and it is thus a major hub of culture, being a location which was popular with visual artists due to the scenic nature of the city, which is very multicultural in building designs and oddly green for a city due to having multiple preserves within the city which make up a network within the city itself, while also being the capitol of the city. You can go to one of the many museums there, with one being a museum complex made up of 18 buildings which would count as museums on their own, but are all part of the same complex, with each focusing on a different subject, such as natural history. Hattori is a center of immigration and is where numerous cultures can be found, while also being popular with visual artists due to being a metropolis which is filled with neon art and also has a fully perserved forrest in between the buildings, as the city was built with environmentalism in mind, thus becoming a hot-spot for eco-tourists in addition to those who love the look of a modernist city, which contrasts with Mount Celestia's mixture of numerous different traditional types of architecture. It is important to note that the USAP was environmentalist from the start, with cities often keeping the ecosystem intact after the city is built, often using elevated paths and minimum spaces between buildings so as to create a city elevated above a preserved habitat. Kainotomía is a center for hybridized cultures and futurist designs in a city which has kept the area's environment well-preserved, while still being a high-tech city, partly due to the technological business starting up there, while also being a large center for artists due to various historical ciurcumstances making it perfect for artists of many kinds, particularly for the film and video game industry due to being the technological center of the nation, thus allowing backlot tours of the studios, and getting to see what goes into shooting a film.
Points of Sporting Interest: There are national leagues for a large number of sports, including: both kinds of football, numerous martial arts, various motorsports, multiple types of manually powered modes of transportation sports (I.E. skateboarding trick competitions and races), hockey, basketball, lacrosse, various types of polo, etc., with almost every city having a team and arena for each sport, which they let international sports leagues rent for their games should they want to.
Points of Political Interest: Mount Celestia is the capitol of the nation, while there is a state capitol for every state, while there is also
Beaches?, If yes, Where?: The Northeast Coast, Northwest coast, West coast, and the islands due West all have great beaches, though the type of beach and the water temperature vary, with the Northeast having colder water due to the current coming from colder waters, but still having great diving spots in the kelp forrests, and the areas not involving water will probably be warm, so it is more if you are interested in swimming in water of a certain temperature, or whether you want to head to cold water coasts for diving in kelp forrests, or warm water coasts for coral reefs).
Casinos, If yes, Where?: Kainotomia has casinos, but these are largely for tourists, and we do have rehabilitation clinics for gambiling compulsion.
Ski Resorts?: We have them, with a northeastern mountain range being where they are located mostly, while it is important to note that Mount Celestia doesn't have snow on it, so it doesn't have any.
National Specialites (food): While we do have strong multiculturalism which means you could find food of many cultures, there is also a strong tradition of various American cuisines in the three senses of "American" food, which includes traditional food of the various American regions (I.E. gumbo, Philadelphia/Boston cheasesteak sandwiches, hamburgers, New England/New York/San Francisco clam chowder, etc.), food that is on-the-go (I.E. falafel, hotdogs, burgers, etc.), and hybrid food, which is caused by chefs blending cooking traditions of various cultures (a great example would be Cajun cuisine, as it is a hybridization of French, Native American, Carribbean, and Southern cooking), but we don't really choose foods as being traditionally the USAP's, as we are inherently based upon being a nation of numerous cultures being already within the borders, most of which have correlations with real nations and cultures, thus, we don't really have a food which is officially the USAP's.
Any laws tourists should know about?: It is important to note we will most likely respect the laws of the nation they are from, so if the nation they're from has cocaine illegal, they won't be allowed to buy it. People bellow the age of consent (18), expect women, and preagnant women will not be allowed to use either alchoholic beverages (with certain exceptions made for foods in which the alchohol burns away, leaving flavor, but no intoxicants), cocaine, or "hard" drugs. There are restrictions of where you can use these things, such as no smoking in areas people frequent, no drinking while behind the wheel, etc. While they are decriminialized, they are still illegal, so while you wouldn't have a felony, you would have rehab mandated. We will allow freedom of non-radical egoist speech, meaning we allow criticism of the government, but we won't allow racism as an example. The USAP is an environmentalist nation, and pollutants are illegal here, so rent or bring an electric car, or use the well funded public transportation system which is free to use due to government subsidy.
Climate?: We are largely temperate, with areas where it can switch to tropical or borreal, though we have some deserts.
Usual Weather?: You could expect cloudy or clear most of the time, with there often being rainfall which allows for lush ecosystems, while some areas at certain times reciving snow.
Terrain: The Northeast is a mixture of hilly, and then mountainous when you get close to the center due to the mountain range, but mostly either rolling plains or hills.
Currency: Our national currency is the Licet, though we also accept the American Dollar, though we recommend you just get any currency switched to the Licet for the trip.
Languages: American English is the defacto, though most know a second language or even third language.
Economics Style?: Social Market economy.
Is There Corruption in your nation?: Our name would have no meaning if we weren't almost completely free of corruption.
Major Tourism Related Companies?: There are no "major" companies as we don't allow business to become large enough that they could crash the economy should they go under, and the tourism industry generally focuses on certain aspects, such as marketing themselves to specific cultures, specializing in certain regions of the nation, or focusing on certain things to look for in a vacation, such as a educational vacation or a partying vacation.
Terrorism in your Nation?: Rare, as we haven't had a single international terrorist attack yet, and domestic terrorism is rare, and ussually fails as police are really profficient in non-lethal force, meaning they are able to shoot first and ask questions later as a viable strategy since they don't have to worry about causing harm and are able to act on percieved threats before they become such, while also making human shields pointless as they could shoot without worry of harming them.

Nation Name: The Grand Empire of Karlsland

Capital City: Sudentor

Date Nation Founded: 18 January 1871

Primary Airports/Ports/etc:
Airports: Frankfurt Airport, Munich Airport, Sudentor-Krakow Airport, Berlin Tegel Airport, Düsseldorf International Airport
Ports: Hamburg, Bremen, Copenhagen

Good System of Roads: The Autobahn is widely considered to be one of the finest road systems in the world, thanks in part to plenty of funding from the government and obsessive maintenance. However, once you leave Karlsland proper, the quality of roads starts to drop. Karlslandic Tanzania and Southwest Africa both have fair road conditions on the highways, comparable to the highways of Liberion (OOC: The US), but the maintenance on low-traffic roads can best be described as approximate. Don't even bother taking a car if you're going to Faroe or Greenland: It isn't worth it.

Good System of Railways: The rail system of Karlsland is extensive. All of the high to medium-traffic areas are very well-maintained, as well as most of the low-traffic sections of rail. Watch your step with the low-traffic rails, though. Much of the rail system was destroyed during the Second Neuroi War, and there are some parts with very low traffic where the rails are still somewhat damaged. In the African colonies, the rails are about the same level, although damage there is caused more by rust than anything. Just like the roads, don't bother asking about the rails in Faroe or Greenland: There aren't any.

Points of Historic Interest:
-Dunkirk: Site of one of the most famous battles of the Second Neuroi War
-Museum of the Second Neuroi War (Munich): A government-owned museum devoted to the most destructive and costly war in history.
-Neuschwanstein Castle (Hohenschwangau): A castle built by the crazed King Ludwig II of Bavaria. It is famous for surviving the War without a scratch and for being the castle the Sleeping Beauty Castle was based on.
-Brandenburg Gate (Berlin): A gate that formerly served as an entrance to Berlin, which has long since grown around it.

Points of Cultural Intrest:
-Lorelei Rock (Near St. Goarshausen on the Rhine): A massive rock that marks the narrowest point on the Rhine between Switzerland and the North Sea. It is extremely hazardous to ships, and a slight murmuring can be heard from the rock. Of course, if you hear it, you're too close.
-Schwarzwald (SW Karlsland): A stereotypical magic forest. Or, rather, the stereotypical magic forest. A dense and mountainy forest, made up mostly of conifers. Much of the development of the cuckoo clock took place in this region.
-Stuttgart: If Schwarzwald is the stereotypical magic forest, then Stuttgart is the sterotypical magic forest tow-err, metropolis. A well-developed city of roughly six hundred thousand, it is home to two major automotive companies, as well as the second-largest Witch Academy in Europe, and the oldest by about 120 years.
-Munich: The original beer capital of the world. The fourth-largest city in Karlsland with a population of 1.35 million. Its beer is legendary, its automobiles even more so, depending on who you ask. It was the most heavily damaged city in the country after the Second Neuroi War, but it has clearly bounced back. And then, of course, there's Oktoberfest.

Points of Sporting Interest:
-Nearly every major city in Karlsland features a football stadium of some sort. The entire country is rabid about the sport. It's worse in the really big cities.
-Stuttgart: What better place to explore the history of racing than the cradle of the automobile? In the Zuffenhausen district is the Porsche museum, featuring cars ranging from the Beetle-like 356 to the man-eating 917, a racing car so perfect that it actually killed off an entire series. And in Untertürkheim is the Mercedes-Benz Museum, where you can see some of the cars that made Mercedes a force to be reckoned with in both endurance and Formula 1.
-Nürburgring Nordschleife (Nürburg): Home of the 24 hours Nürburgring, the Green Hell is one of the most grueling road courses on Earth. At just under 21 kilometers, it features 154 turns (170 if you count the GP track). If you dare to challenge it in either your own car or one you can rent for the track, it'll set you back a fair amount of Marks, but if you truly are a fan of racing, it'll be more than worth it.

Points of Political Interest:
-Reichstag (Berlin): Home of the Council of Governors as well as the legislative branch of the government. The iconic dome was destroyed during the Second Neuroi War when a severely damaged Neuroi crashed into it.
-Sudentor Palace (Sudentor): Home of the Royal Family. The entire west wing of the palace was burned in a fire during the Second Neuroi War. Interestingly enough, it was not caused by a Neuroi, but by a nearby tank exploding.

Beaches?, If yes, Where?: Abso. Lutely. Everywhere. Denmark is covered with them, but those on the Baltic side of the country are the best. The African colonies have even better beaches, as it's warmer there. Asking about the beaches in the other two colonies will get you laughed at: Greenland is frigid all year long, and the Faroe Islands have sheer cliffs.

Casinos, If yes, Where?: Very few casinos exist south of Denmark. The vast majority of them are in Copenhagen, although there are two in Sudentor.

Ski Resorts?: A lot. All of them in the Alps. And they are incredible.

National Specialites (food): Basically German cuisine with a bit of Polish mixed in, with a dash of Danish.

Any laws tourists should know about?:
-Although anyone capable of using magic is able to use a rental pair of Strikers, it's illegal to do so without a license.
-You know how some nations have a few nude beaches scattered here and there? Well, in Karlsland proper, nude beaches are the rule, not the exception. This is your only warning.
-It is illegal to wear bright green hats in parts of Karlsland, especially areas where there are Witch bases nearby. This is because, at 150 meters and 550 kph, a green hat looks a lot like the signal light that tells you where to land. It's more of a safety measure than anything, and the punishment is nothing more than a 100 Mark fee. Just be aware, if you wear a green hat in Karlsland you will get buzzed by Witches.

Climate?:
-Greenland: Tundra/Ice cap.
-Faroe Islands: Taiga/Marine west coast
-Karlsland proper: Marine west coast/Humid continental
-Karlslandic Southwest Africa: Semiarid/Arid
-Karlslandic Tanzania: Tropical wet and dry/Arid

Usual Weather?:
-Greenland: The snow here is either off or on.
-Faroe Islands: It's basically Scotland weather. (Chilly and rainy most of the year except Summer)
-Karlsland proper: Most of the country is warm and wet during the spring and summer, and freezing cold and snowy during the winter. The far eastern parts are similar, but drier.
-Karlslandic Southwest Africa: It rarely rains, but when it does, it rains as if someone had upturned a lake.
-Karlslandic Tanzania: Swings between being hot and humid during what would normally be spring and summer for the Southern hemisphere, and even hotter and dry during what is normally fall/winter.

Terrain:
-Greenland: An ice cap with bits of tundra near the edges.
-Faroe Islands: Islands with poor soil and huge rocky cliffs that magnetically attract ships.
-Karlsland proper: In Denmark, it's flat and sandy with very little variation in terrain. In the east, it is also flat, but the soil is much better for growing things. In the west, the soil increases in quality with greater proximity to rivers, but starts to degrade as you approach the Alps. Notable mountain ranges include the Alps, the Schwarzwald mountains, and the Harz mountains.
-Karlslandic Southwest Africa: The coast is flat and incredibly sandy, but to the east it is rocky, mountainous and unforgiving.
-Karlslandic Tanzania: It is flat in the southeast along the coast, but gets rockier to the northwest. Much of the country is savannah, although there are some scattered forests.

Currency: The Mark.

Languages: German, Danish, Polish and Swahili, along with some Inuit dialects in Greenland.

Economics Style?: Mixed economy, leans strongly towards capitalist.

Is There Corruption in your nation?: Surprisingly little for a monarchy.

Major Tourism Related Companies?: Lufthansa, Karlsland Tourism, Karlsland Ministry of Culture

Terrorism in your Nation?: In early May there was a massive terrorist attack in Copenhagen, which sustained significant damage. The terrorist organization Al-Sharifah, headquartered in Afghakistan, claimed responsibility. However, they were swiftly dealt with, with assistance coming from several other nations they had attacked. There have been no attacks since then.

Postby Tenuria » Fri Aug 26, 2011 6:25 pm

Nation Name: si-Thaluö Damalg'iru (Union of Tenuria)
Capital City: Oversector One (de-facto)
Date Nation Founded: 59 YA
Primary Airports/Ports/etc: Only one airfield is cleared to receive traffic from foreign countries. It's located in a tightly guarded compound, with hundreds of armed soldiers between you and the exit.
Good System of Roads: The roads in Tenuria are excellent. Largely because they are only used by government vehicles (no other kind exists). Anyone found driving any kind of non-cleared vehicle will be shot. Probably with a rocket launcher.
Good System of Railways: No.
Points of Historic Interest: In the centre of Oversector One lie the ruins of the old palace of the Emperor of Tenuria. This is located in a very high security area, however, and anyone who gets too close will be shot.
Points of Cultural Intrest: None whatsoever. Most forms of culture are outlawed.
Points of Sporting Interest: None.
Points of Political Interest: The whole country is arguably a point of political interest. But anyone who looks like they're trying to learn about it will be shot.
Beaches?, If yes, Where?: There are some beaches near Oversector Twelve, but the water is full of industrial toxins and contaminants, and can kill you. Also, unauthorized access to any area of the Union is grounds for being shot.
Casinos, If yes, Where?: No. Gambling occurs only on an unofficial basis and is technically illegal.
Ski Resorts?: There is no snow, so no.
National Specialites (food): Vat-grown yeast-like products, vat-grown protein substitutes, vitamin supplements, all laced with relaxant drugs designed to keep people too depressed or disoriented to rebel
Any laws tourists should know about?: Just about everything is illegal, including tourists.
Climate?: Subarctic (Köppen classification Dfd, shading to Dwd and Dwc in the interior). Long, bitterly cold winters and short warm summers, not that it's possible to tell the difference since most oversector-cities tend to create their own weather. Permafrost extends hundreds of meters down; precipitation is extremely rare. Very little vegetation can grow, and that which can has usually died due to industrial pollutants or nuclear testing.
Usual Weather?: Overcast. The sky appears red or purple most of the time, due to reflections from the ground. The average temperature is between -5 and 5 degrees Celsius. Acid rain is the most common variety of precipitation; snow tends to fall only outside of the oversectors, melting over them due to large amounts of fumes vented into the atmosphere by Union factories. On rare occasions, the sun may be seen, but even then it is typically occluded by clouds of smoke, ash, or mushroom clouds.
Terrain: Urban, for the parts you can visit. Outside the oversectors, vast areas of mostly uninhabited land that used to be taiga/boreal forest, moorland, or tundra, and now is mostly a barren and uninhabitable wasteland. A number of rivers used to run through Tenuria, but they've all been diverted to underground reservoirs. There are some mountains, but people who go there don't come back.
Currency: None. There are no consumer goods, anyway.
Languages: Damalgian
Economics Style?: Absolute command economy. Everything is owned by the state.
Is There Corruption in your nation?: Technically, no....
Major Tourism Related Companies?: Private enterprise is illegal, so none.
Terrorism in your Nation?: There are some rebels. They don't come close to being a threat, but they are annoyingly difficult to stamp out.

City Name: The Hub
Date of Founding: 44 YA
Mayor/Leader: Joachim Milton Bonethief Kennedy Richmond
Airport/port?: There's an old marina, but since any ships that enter or leave can be found by the Union, we don't use it much.
Good Road System?: The roads here are excellent for walking on. Very well graded.
Underground/Metro System?: Huh?
If Yes, how extensive?: You've lost me there.
Points of Historic Interest?: There's the old radio station... that's the first building we seized in the Battle of the Hub, I guess it's kinda historic. They were going to put up a statue of Blind Ken -- first leader of the rebellion, led us out of Tenuria way back when -- but we had to melt down the metal for weapons.
Points of Cultural Interest?: That'd be the market, and the honeycomb houses. Everyone meets there. We even get people from far off -- Eshtariël, Haven, Artaljnas. We obviously don't have much of a culture around here, but at least we don't need everyone fighting all the time, which is a good sign.
Points of Sporting Interest?: What's sport?
Points of Political Interest?: Can't think of anything.
Major Parks?: We don't have the time to build parks. We have enough trouble getting food and clothing for the people who still need it.
Number of Restaurants: 2... maybe 3, if you count the fact that you can always get a great coffee at Em's [i.e, Emilydickinson Beatrix Thatcher Zula, a community elder of some 46 years]
Number of Theatres: What's a theatre?
Number of Cinemas: Never heard of them.
Number of Museums: Nor that.
Any Particular things people should visit?: The front lines. Now that the Damalgians are no longer harassing us quite so strongly, we'll need to consolidate support so that we can weather their next offensive. That means liberating people from the cities and gathering foreign aid. You with us? ... No? Well, that's fine too.
