How democratic is your nation?

Postby Soigo » Mon Jul 25, 2011 10:40 pm

On a scale from 1 to 10, how democratic is your nation?
1 is a totalitarian regime where the dictator/monarch is god-like and not to be questioned. 10 is an über-democratic society where everything is decided by referendum, and there's not even a parliament. Everything else is in between...

Soigo is a 4 on the democracy scale. The Chancellor is head of state, government, chief lawmaker and supreme judge at the same time. She is not elected, but appointed by her guild for an unlimited time. But she listens to the advice of the Great Council, which has 8 democratically elected and 7 undemocratically appointed members. And the Great Council has veto rights.

Meowfoundland is about an 8 on the scale. There is a representative parliament with one representative for approximately every 1000 people, and citizens can call a referendum is they can collect 2000 signatures on the topic.
This was formerly a signature. One day, it may return to its splendid past. In the meantime, enjoy some pictures of my cats.

Perfect, unscalable. Democracy isn't all it's cracked up to be, people don't belong determining the lives of anyone outside themselves; too many people screw up their own lives, which isn't ideal, but it's their own choice. People can not rightfully make the choices of others, rendering Democracy, regardless of the degree of Directness, less than ideal, sometimes even rendering Democracy the nearly identical results to Totalitarianism. JJ Place is far beyond Democracy, and vastly evolved beyond Totalitarianism; JJ Place utilizes one of the most complex societal organizations, and that is one of no Government at all, the ideal form of Government.

The Communist Empire of Japan kills anyone that even gets the Emperor mad on the smallest scale...
Any word that may clue to criticising our regime, then we kill you...
If they do what there are told, then no problem, or else, burnt to the stake, boil in oil, shark pit, guillotine, torture to the extreme, drowning, gallows, executions of all kinds, gulags...
We send political opponents to death camps, or brainwashing facilities...
We also force soome to commit seppuku...
pretty much we are unstoppable totalitarians....

The Free Peoples of Krakke are a republic, so I'd rate it about a 9 on the scale, mainly because it has just been formed, and has not yet been corrupted or changed.
OBEY, WORK, PROSPER.

Evil, fascist, hyperindustrialized, dieselpunk, militarized nation that is ruled by the High Autocrat with an iron fist, along with the help of his Nationalists, secret police that make the Gestapo look like your best friends. Everything illegal is an executable offense, IF you are lucky. And everything beyond the bare minimum to survive is illegal.

We are driven by the Machine...

I created this nation with the sole purpose of making the absolute worst dictatorship I could. I do not condone anything IC with Krakke.

3-4? we have no elective system of government but we do maintain some limited forms of freedom of speech as you can say what you wish as long as it is not directly advocating revolt or promotes socialism.

3 It's a Holy Monarchy. The Jarl (king) Is the head of both Government and Church. There is a council of 25 elected officials and 5 appointed ones, however, they are just that, a council. They only rule if the current Jarl is too young to assume the throne.

soooo.. 2-3ish.

However, freedom of property and speech are our highest tenets. Property includes the ownership of any, and I mean ANY firearm.

We'd place ourselves on a 5, since we don't really have a go on either democracy or totalitarian, and by the poll, it also means democratic and free, as opposed to a lack of democracy and unfree.
Now mostly a politik discuss account.

Alright. By habit I fell for accepting the view that a society is to be measured by the status of their lowest class, but you may actually have a point.

I would say 10.
The executive is directly elected, the judges are also directly elected while the juries come from the people.
The upper house of the legislature is occupied by ordinary citizens while the lower house is directly elected.
NO law becomes valid until the citizens approve it in a referendum.
The country is a federal decentralised state that promotes direct democracy at all levels. :p
