The History of our Race
The inhabitants of Shakuras and the newly liberated Aiur began an Empire wide exodus due to a deadly virus known as “Daav’o Shaiu” which caused instant death. The cause of the virus is unknown, and not even the advanced medicines of The Protoss could stop it. The only option was to escape.
The once most powerful empire of Sigma Draconis was plunged into civil war aboard the escape vessels. These vessels, ranging from thousands, to millions of inhabitants, were the home of the Protoss for 50 generations up until the Great Divide.
The Great Divide (also known as The Great Emnity) was sparked over accusations between the vessels XERA and TAQ about the possibility of sabotage of one of TAQ’s major engine consoles. Many other events (such as the “accidental” killing of hundreds of XERA families by TAQ security forces) lead up to this event, but it was this sabotage that plunged the fleet (known as EXODUS I) into major war. XERA and it’s followers united under one faction, the United Exodus Liberators (UEL), while TAQ and it’s followers, united under the Oppression Resistance Cell (ORC).
The Divide raged on for decades, with neither side backing down in what came to be only the 3rd Protoss-wide war since the Zerg occupation of Aiur. The loss of life was tremendous, with 80 percent of the EXODUS I population killed, and 90 percent of vessels destroyed. The war climaxed with the destruction of XERA mother ship “Vaol”. This however, did not stop the downfall of the UEL. XERA’s greatest rival among the members of the UEL, VANTAAL, formed a splinter group known as the UEL-E (United Exodus Liberators-EX) and took a number of UEL followers with them. This plunged the UEL into disarray, with many followers questioning the leadership and organising a large scale coup d’état which ultimately failed. ORC seized the opportunity, and pressed the attack with it’s Flag Ship, “The Evangel” and utterly destroyed the unprepared UEL and UEL-E forces.
With ORC proclaiming victory among the remnant Protoss people, the small number of vessels remaining ran out of fuel, and began a slow drift into deep space. In a last ditch effort to find refuge, after centuries of searching, ORC warriors poured their Psionic energy into the vessels, and attempted one last planetary entrance, to a planet known as Earth. Only one vessel made it through, with the others bouncing off the earth’s atmosphere into the void for a slow death. Small video diaries were sent with the last reserves of energy to the vessel that made it through, 2 months later, and the footage was that of cannibalism and widespread insanity.
It was the Evangel. The ship contained less a 5 percent of the EXODUS I population, and less than a quarter of a percent of the original Protoss population. After an unsteady start, the newly founded nation of ShakurasIV was steadily rising in a region populated by many different races and peoples. And this is where we stand now, forced to adopt the human way of life.
