How do you rise to power in your nation? Were you elected, was there a coup, or some other way?

The GDR was just a small kingdom ruled by a spoiled, greedy, stuck-up czar whos family had ruled our nation for 400 years.
During the Great War, small riots broke out in the old Imperial capital of Leipzig. Riots turned to protests, protests turned to
violent demonstrations. Then, on May 7th, the czarist soldiers opened fire on demonstrators, killing 5,000 people in less than 2 hours
And thus, the revolution was born! I was in The Socialist Yuzar Republic of Northern Bavungria on May 7th when it happened.
In 2 weeks I was back in the country ( having been exiled on account of high treason) and was greeted by a mass of loving followers.
In 5 months, I became head of the Communist party, in 10, I had overthrown the government and set up a new government with a
new capital, a new name, and ruled by the party.

The Anglynovan people gained their right to their future in a Revolutionary war.

Anglynova is an island nation, and it was first inhabited sometime 4,000 years ago. These are the Anglynovans as an ethnic group. The original Anglynovans lived on the island in relative isolation until sometime 2,000 years later. Colonists from other nations made contact with the Anglynovans and traded with them, making peace. It wasn't long before these colonists began to set up settlements on Anglynova and began living with them. Anglynova became a melting pot of different races and creeds, and while the Anglynovan ethnic group survives to this day, it is vastly different than it was 4,000 years ago (including the language and customs).

Surprisingly, no colonists attempted to take control of Anglynova. Anglynova's dense jungles and mountain ranges in the east-central part of the nation were unattractive as battlefields, and they knew the Anglynovans would not give up their homeland. But, around 200 years ago, a political party began to rise in Anglynova during a time of great economic hurt. They promised the Anglynovans and the colonists greater prosperity. The Peoples Republic of Anglynova was formed. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a totalitarian regime. Thousands died in work camps, and no one had rights. So, the Anglynovans and the Colonists (not really colonists anymore!) united together several decades later. This was the start of the revolutionary war. It began in the northern part of the nation. Troops followed the coastline south, eventually reaching Novlygon, the nation's capital. The loyalist troops could not hold back millions upon millions of Anglynovan troops. The capital was eventually taken back, and the loyalists were beaten. The leaders that killed thousands of Anglynovans were tried and sentenced to death.

A Revolutionary Council took power for 5 years. They set up the government and allowed the nation to become stable. In order to prevent future control of the council, they were chosen from members of different ethnic groups and different backgrounds. There was a coal miner, a farmer, a doctor, a software designer, and an intern from an old company. Dring the war, they united as soldiers, and afterwards they became the council. Their relationship with the people kept them down-to-earth. After the council was disbanded, there is a 20 year limit of them entering politics again to prevent a take over of the government.

Now, the Republic of Anglynova is a representative republic. Each province elects senators to represent them in the capital, which makes laws and the such. To be president, you must be a citizen of the nation and at least 21. Each president serves 4 years.

In 1450, the Federation of Landstown States was formed. They were a strong nation prospering from wood and wool at the time.
For about 150 the nation grew conquering other nations.
In 1630, a great war, The Angrimeze war (named after the angrimeze region of the federation) took place. All 10 of the regions went against each other in the bloodest war in the history of Landstown. Over 3/4 of all the regions militaries were killed or missing. From that point, the regions made their own independent countries. To this day nobody really knows what the war was about. Most beliebe is was a dispute over money.
In 1875, 245 years after the bloody war began, 3 of the regions, Angrimeze, Tatemu, and Rhodes all formed to create the Holy Empire of Landstown.
In 1910, 3 more regions, Lazar, Gree, and Moriss, formed the Confederation of Landstown. In 1915, they went to war with each other because Moriss was trying to create a powerful army. Lazar and Gree won and left to go to the Holy Empire of Landstown.
World War 1 broke out and Moriss finally came to their senses and decided to join the Holy Empire and it was renamed the Northern Kingdom of Landstown.
After the atomic bomb, the smallest region Jamara joined Landstown.
In 1960, Landstown aquired islands full of steel to the north.
In 1976, Northern Kingdom of Landstown acquired Henderson (the biggest of the past regions), Anderson, and Umar.
In 2011, they changed their name to Holy Empire of Landstown

A Chancellor is not elected democractically or chosen through hereditary means, but is instead appointed by their predecessor, who hands over power when they decide to step down. Generally this choice is made before the Chancellor actually steps down (in case the Chancellor dies/is assassinated etc while still in office), though if there is no clear successor for whatever reason, the role pretty much just falls to whoever steps forward and takes the initiative.

The Vozhd, our head-of-state, recieves his position ex officio as soon as he is elected General-Secretary of the Communist Party (by a special session of the All-Party Congress); another ex officio post is that of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

To achieve this election, one must be able to muster enough support amongst the often-quarreling members of the Communist Part Central Committee and Politburo, who are the ones who come up with the list of candidates. Then its up to the rank-and-file delegates.

Most other positions are appointed or elected. Commissars and the Premier are appointed, the Procuratorate is elected by the legislature, legislative positions are elected, military positions are appointed as well, etc.

For would-be elected officials: Have the support of a something, whether it be the local bureaucracy or something with guns.

For would-be appointees: Be good at your job.

Usually, the head of state before you abdicates and appoints a successor, and if the people of Rhodes are okay with his appointment (judged by the results of the Affirmare, or the nationwide plebiscite on the subject) he is sworn in at Parliament and subsequently addresses his people at the Piazza della Colle.

The office of Prime Minister is decided as a result of popular elections, with the Prime Minister almost always being the head of the party he's aligned with.

The members of the Ministry Council were first rated as "highly qualified and adhering to professional standards" by their respective professional groups, and then elected by majority rule.

On reaching the age of 21 however, military service is mandatory, and particular attention will be paid to your record there.

Ultimately, it is from the pool of citizens that fit the above criteria, the incumbent Lord President must choose.

The Supreme Chairman of the Board of Chairmans of the Governing Politburo of the Socialist Republic of Rustonia is elected in a multistep process.

1: Major political parties (5 million members or above) choose a representative to run for office. Said representative is then placed on a roster of 19 political candidates, and given a total of 20,000 shekels to advertise and campaign for the designated three months. At the end of the six months, voting centres are opened for a total of one week. At the end of the week, the votes are counted up and whoever has the majority vote is elected Supreme Chairman. However, as an alternative to the candidates, a 'none of the above' option is placed on the Candidate Selection Sheets. Should 'none of the above' be chosen by majority, all candidates are barred from running and another 19 candidates are chosen, with the 5 least popular candidates' political parties barred as well, and 5 new parties brought in.

However, due to massive political apathy (less than 5% of citizens actually vote in national elections), new legislation has been put forth to dissolve the national political process and restructure the government in order to have high political offices decided in the Knesset, instead of by the public.
