What is shown on the telly in your nation?

Postby Registug » Sat Jul 23, 2011 9:01 am

What channels, shows and such are shown on your nation's televisions?

In Registug we have:
RNN (Registug News Network) - The only 24 hour news network in the country, they have many sub-channels that each focus on a particular topic, be it politics, war, finance, local or international.
MEN (Men's Entertainment Network) - The all action, all awesome men's entertainment network. It usually shows programs with heavy sexual references, extreme amounts of violence or just complete rudeness.
CC42 (Comedy Channel 42) - Pretty much what the title says, it's a comedy channel.
ONE - Channel one, general channel for all sorts of programs, tailored for each local area. Pretty much like those basic channels you get IRL.
ET3 (Entertainment 3) - Entertainment Channel, much like FOX from IRL but better.
M (Movies) - Movie channel, where all the latest movies are shown.

All of these channels are free-to-air.

The most popular show in Registug is Penfold Head Stories, a drama about some teenagers who live in the coastal town of Penfold Head. It is especially popular amongst the younger population.

ZMSTV (Ze Mani State Television) shows news, sport, documentaries, soaps and other content deemed 'appropriate'.

ITV (Illuminate Television) broadcasts the Illuminate bliss 24 hours a day and records who views it, when they view it and how long they view it for. If a person is logged as not viewing it for the minimum required hour a day, they are handed a warning notice and put in the stocks. If this happens again they are sentenced to either death or a long period of slavery depending on their standing in society and their reason for not watching.

I had a post on this floating around a while ago, lemme see if I can find it...

Mount Shavano wrote:By genre:

Whodunit:
Sherlock Holmes, originally a very faithful adaptation of the titular detective's short stories, ran out of them recently after a long run and has had to start writing its own plots. No drop in quality yet, fortunately, but the show is still likely nearing the end of its run.

Sci-Fi:
Grand Junction, a show depicting the adventures of the titular FRN submarine after being transported to...somewhere else by forces unknown. The crew tries to alive and figure out a way to get back to where they came from.

Fantasy
2012, unrelated to the Maya in any way, shape, or form, depicts the secret, near future return of one of the vampires thought destroyed in the 1997 war, and the (often messy) effect this has on the citizens of the city he arrives in. The darkest of the bunch.

Western
Divide is a long running show, depicting the travels of a cowboy across the country, starting in the year 1880. Has a feel very much like The Duke's movies back home, and the hero always wins.

Sports
The Front Range Football League's game broadcasts are collectively the most popular show, period, in the Front Range Republic. The primary difference in how this is handled compared to its real life counterpart is that each of the major FRR networks can broadcast any game, and the main incentive for viewers to turn into your station rather than your competitors is the quality of your commentators. Needless to say, this has resulted in much higher quality analysis than is available in real life.

Our people are a lover of communism. In TV, children shows such as "Care for you neighbors and you country", "Adventures of Young Pioneers", "Space Science for kids" are popular. The shows are produced by the state by recruiting talented writers, artists, actors and directors. These talents are sometimes awarded with Meritorious Medal of the Soviet Republic Lenirea.
For adults, the State Shopping network(SSN) regularly displays high end consumer goods, the show is popular among housewives. The State Television Network(STN) shows the glory of the People's Army marching on the streets, the People's Police report on local crimes and problems to raise public awareness on crimes(yes, we do have crimes, but pretty much non existent.). Supreme Soviet channel(SSC) regularly shows daily legislative issues so the people can decide what to vote for. Local Soviets provide their own television show about more local issues, local candidates running for election and such.
There are a lot of entertainment, educational channel, sponsored by the state, but contents are produced by private individual. Individuals submit their audition tape and let people vote for their favorite, then the state will sponsored it. There are 5320 such private entertainment and educational channels.

We have more important things to spend money on than paying some guy to catalogue every television program currently showing in the Republic.

There are a lot of them, though, we can tell you that much.

While there are countless shows aired on the federation raging from the local coverage of some opera or jousting tournament to political shows discussing the needs for a constitution and why expansion and following our manifest destiny is bad so would the top ten most watched be:

1: Federal and royal news: The most popular news program that deals with a lot of the issues that arises in the federation

2: Imerian high news: similar as the FaR news but more centred on Scandera rather than the federation as a whole

3: Savages and bright sun: a program that allows federal subjects to study the strange and quite amusing customs of foreigners from the comfort of their home as the team on the TV travels over the world and films their adventures often to the confusion of the locals.

4: The federal weather program: goes into a detailed analyse of how the weather will look like for the week to come over the entire federation

5: Hunting like a gentleman: A program that teaches you how to hunt what where, goes into the newest in gentlemanly weapons and hunting equipment, a bit of what could be hunted where and in what foreign nations that you are allowed to hunt in and how to avoid the local constabulary in the rest

6: The world of today: a program that goes through recent theories and works in all fields varying from psychology to mechanics to art such as the advantages of shock therapy to cure everything from socialism to nyctophobia and the revolutionary idea of putting patients to sleep with medicine before operations.

7:The literature hour: a program that goes into the various news novels and reading material released within the federation as a panel of professors in literature gives their opinions on the books.

8: The colonial exhibit: A program that talks about the life in the colonies and how the natives lives have been enhanced by the Imerian high culture.

9: The constitutional question: A liberal program who's host speaks about how a constitution would make our blessed federation a better place and how the more feudal society that would arise would indeed make us if possible a even more utopian nation.

10: The adventures of Gustaf the guardsman: a child cartoon about the guardsman Gustaf that fights foreigners and evil abroad in weekly adventurers while at the same time being a civilized gentleman.

There are three major television networks in New Lyrane. They all compete directly with each other, so each has pretty similar programming: news and current affairs; sports; drama; children's programming; movies; game shows. Made-for-television drama tends to be set in the modern day and concentrate on interpersonal issues. Every television network has one or more long-running drama series that concentrate on one or two families and their relationships. Another popular genre is detective shows.

Rustonian television has consistently been rated by foreign organizations as 'some of the most offensive, perverted, disgusting, violent, and profane' entertainment in the world. Due to the almost complete lack of censorship laws, just about anything can be shown on television, including: hardcore pornography, extreme violence, drug use, 'hardcore' profanity, murder, cannibalism, etc. Game and reality shows tend to be the most popular, although horror, science fiction, and comedy tend to be pretty big, as well.

The following are the 'top ten' highest rated shows in Rustonia as of now.

1: So You Think You Can Screw?: An hour-long show in which 35 contestants (15 male and 15 female) are given the once-in-a-lifetime deal with Redlight Entertainment for a 15 movie contract as the star.
2: Big Black Threesome: A childrens show in which three black bears; Ion, Anton, and Vladko, learn that the world isn't all milk and honey after their mother sends them out into the world. Their zany adventures will warm the cockles of anyone's heart.
3: 21st Century Snuff: A clipshow, in which the world's hottest snuff clips are shown, with comedian Nicolae Croivescu providing commentary.
4: I Fuck Everything I Kill: An animtated, historical docudrama horror comedy show about Tomislav dze Dzjugazshvili, a notorious necrophiliac, cannibal, and serial killer who lived in early 19th century Sighisoara, the capital of Rustonia. It has a lot of subtle social and political commentary about the Zionist Kingdom of Rustonia (which it takes place in), as well as subtle social and political commentary about modern Rustonia.
5: People Food: Famous chef Borislav Ceausescu explores the world, enjoying the finest delicacies made of human meat along the way.
6: Doctor Love: A science fiction show that takes place in 2203, in which Rustonia is a devastated wasteland ruled by a totalitarian, Fascist regime; the Socialist Republic toppled by years of civil war and genocide. The main characher, who goes by the alias 'Doctor Love', works as a 'collector', a State agent who retakes the organs and bodyparts of people who were unable to keep up on their payments. However, Doctor Love must juggle his State job with his support for the insurgency, and his gay lover, Ratko.
7: Red Ink, White Pages: A high-concept show in which a random person (a new person each episode) finds a mysterious (but free) laptop. When they turn it on, they discover it contains information on every person in the world. And in exchange for giving up their soul to the Devil, the person can influence the lives (and therefor history) of 100 people.
8: I Kill Everything I Fuck: Iosef Kramar is a just your normal political attache, an agent of the Rustonian government who is secretly sent to different parts of the world so survey said areas, and report on the best course of action for the Rustonian government to take. He just has two problems; he is an extreme nymphomaniac, and has an uncontrollable urge to kill his partner post-coital. Now he must deal with his addictions, whilst outwitting both the foreign governments he operates around and the Rustonian government he works for, whilst making sure to keep his family together.
9: Pornews and the Weather: A straightforward news programme. However, short scenes of hardcore ponography are seamlessly blended in, often involving the journalists themselves.
10: The Torture Game: A gameshow in which 10 contestants undergo increasingly painful psychological, sexual, and physical torture in order to win points. Whoever has the most points at the end of the episode wins a million shekels.

Thuraski TV is under the colossal Thuraski Radiotelevision (TRT) umbrella. Every single channel is run by TRT, be it 24 hour news, popular entertainment, educational, children's, etc. Most content is homegrown or locally-remade versions of foreign programming, although all of them have to either be following or in agreement with Party line.
