"Voting announced to be completely voluntary."
"Voting signifies a person as a valuable member of society," complained Senator Praven Naros to the Legistlation House of Gertovia this evening, "and I dare say that it should be compulsory to all citizens, apart from of course, convicted criminals." The Senator proposed a new bill to force people to use their right to vote. As a member of the Republican Faction, he had major support from his party, while the oppposition came mostly from the most powerful party in Gertovia, the Democratic Socialists, led by none other than the Secretary of State, Ferland Nolan. "What kind of people do you think the people who were forced to vote would vote for? They could be lazy drunken wretches who will vote for stupid candidates. I have no support whatsoever for Senator Naros' proposal, and my vote goes against it." With the support for the opposistion, the vote lost by the largest margins in history, 20 votes for vs 200 votes against.
So basicly this is a newsletter based in my Democratic Republic of Gertovia, where I take the day's events and compile them into one, then take the issue I think is the best and include it.

"Heavy Duty Automobiles to be banned."
Following a new legistlation in Gertovia today, led by the Democratic socialists and championed by the relatively small Enviromentalist party, heavy duty automobiles, such as those of mainly American manufacture, are to be banned. "The gas used by these cars are major air polution," stated the President today, at a press conference held in the capital, " and they were banned because of their danger to the enviroment, out of only the most honourable intentions." The President has unleashed this law as part of his new, "Keep Gertovia clean and free", program, which was made to curb pollution. "You can't even eat fish anymore without getting sick," stated Enviromentalist party leader Geoffry Collin at the conference, where he was sitting beside the president, "it really is a sign that we should keep our nation a clean enviromental paridise, and I am convinced the president understands this, and I hope we can countinue to cooperate succesfully, as we have done with this first step in our enviromental quota." Although Republican leaders were appaled a bit, they did not have the power to win the vote, and the bill won 230 for vs 150 against.

"Goverment announces 100% tax rate on High-Income earners."
A new bill has been signed in today describing a 100% tax rate on High-Income earners. "Its not as crazy as it sounds," said President Carr during our interview, "we tax away all their money, yes, but all hih income owners have goverment designated jobs, ensuring that they have not only the necessities, but many privleges as well." Interestly, a Doctor by the name of Samuel Dae championed the proposal. "We ave goverment jobs, so anything we buy is stupid stuff, the rest, including entertainment, are provided by the goverment anyway, so they are pretty much just cutting out the middleman, which sounds entirely reasonabale to me." Indeed, even some republicans championed the bill, and it won 260 for vs 130 against.
