Soldiers' wages/salaries/payments

Postby Immoren » Thu Jul 21, 2011 9:18 am

Is income of your nation's soldiers defined by
1)rank
2)duty/position
3)lenght of service
4)some other/combination of above

Conscripts in Immoren are given payment of 10 euros/day for <6months of service, 15 euros/day for 6-9 months of service and 20 euros/day for >9months of service.
For professional NCOs, professional officers and reservists acting as peace keepers income is defined by their duty/position plus bonuses defined by years in service. So theoretically low ranking professional/peacekeeper NCO might be better paid than mid/high ranking officer.

Members of the National Militia are not paid, but they do receive an expense account and housing accommodations.

Members of the Vermont Militia are strictly volunteer, and as such receive no pay. All volunteers do receive room and board, however.

Pay is awarded on a sliding scale. Recruits (those undergoing the first 32 weeks of service during basic training) will earn the equivalent of S. 12,000 per year. Privates, and their equivalent in the Navy and Air Force, will earn S. 16,000. Pay increases with rank and duty, and servicemen are also eligible for bonuses in exchange for good work.

Pay is relatively low for servicemen compared with jobs requiring similar qualifications in the public sector. However, much of a soldier's salary is disposable income; all soldiers have the option of living in a barracks where they pay no rent and where food, electricity and other essentials are provided for free. Servicemen above a certain rank, and servicemen with families, may live in military-subsidised housing near their base for which they must pay rent and buy their own electrical supply and food. However, the rents on such properties are much lower than for a similar property in civilian life.

Pay awards are also made to soldiers who excel. A lump sum of S. 3,000 is paid to servicemen simply for passing basic training; when a soldier re-enlists he receives another lump sum of S. 1,500. Soldiers who impress their commanding officers with their good behaviour and discipline are also given pay awards.

Servicemen, like all Makaarian government employees, also receive an impressive retirement package. All ex-servicemen are eligible to receive a military pension once they turn 70, and government pensions are far higher than their private sector equivalents.
