Explination of your National Anthem

Postby H-Alba » Wed Jul 20, 2011 8:38 pm

What is the meaning behind your national anthem?

Chì mi na mórbheanna

O chì, chì mi na mòr-bheanna

The Mist Covered Mountains

Chorus
Oh, I see, I see the great mountains
Oh, I see, I see the lofty mountains
Oh, I see, I see the corries
I see the peaks beneath the mist

I see, straight away, the place of my birth
I will be welcomed in a language which I understand
I will receive hospitality and love when I reach there
That I would not trade for a ton of gold

Chorus

I see woods there, I see thickets there
I see fair, fertile fields there
I see the deer on the ground of the corries
Shrouded in a garment of mist

Chorus

High moutains with lovely slopes
Folk there who are always kind
Light is my step when I go bounding to see them
And I will willingly remain there for a long while

Chorus

Our national anthem describes the nature and culture of our nation. Our nation is mountainous, and the mountains are often covered in mist, whilest our people are known for being friendly and kind.

Edge Of Night
Home is behind
The world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow
To the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight

Mist and shadow
Cloud and shade
All shall fade
All shall fade

Our national anthem was written during The Great Occupation (1888-1897), during which our people faced cultural genocide. Those who refused to speak the invaders language were lynched, and thousands of Genesti fled the nation. The song was chosen as the national anthem in 1908 to remember those years.

The Anthem of Anglo-Nihon wrote:

The Anthem of Nihon was rumored to have been sung by a couple of poets upon their entry into the small archipelago Anglo-Nihon in it's early days. When the people of a village came to ask the poets how they transcribed such a song, they by legend replied it had been sung to them by an ancient spirit of a local stream when they first visited the islands, and sang it when caught in a typhoon, and they successfully made it on course to Anglo-Nihon. It is honored as the song that has embodied the nation, regarding our independent and hardworking tradition, as well as our determined spirit of endeavour.

The national anthem is about his holiness the emperor, it is sung in Latin and goes some way to describe how he is the political, cultural and spiritual leader of the Seytanist people.

Glory to our people's homeland of Thurask!
And its crimson banner flying o'er our land!
We shall build our nation working hand in hand!
Then we shall accomplish this heroic task!

CHORUS:
Long live Thurask, motherland of daughters and of sons!
Land of mountains, land of forests and of streams!
Enemies who threaten us with words and guns,
Cannot win against our people and our dreams!

Our Party shall guide our nation to great heights!
Lenin's teachings will enlighten the whole world!
With our voices and our banners all unfurled,
The sun over us shall shine through darkest nights!

CHORUS

A people united in a bond of steel,
Work towards a great and final victory!
The Thuraski people shall make history
In their pursuit of the communist ideal!

CHORUS

The national anthem, written to address Thurask better than the non-specific Internationale, describes the guiding ideology of the nation and how its people shall defend, enjoy and build Thurask with the help of the Party and the teachings of Lenin.

The Gorgisian anthem is an old folk song, which was given new, patriotic lyrics in 1827 as an ode to both the nation and the king. In 1946, when communists took over, they first used various new songs, and later an instrumental version of the anthem. After the fall of communism, the old lyrics were introduced, with references to the king removed officially (but they're still often sung the traditional way). In the time of the Free State of Gorgisia 1939 - 1946, another more nationalist song was used.

Gorgisia Awakens - Gorčisja ravàllkja

1.
Gorčisja ravàllkja,
ay morgejav clej negrja.
Sul javaska ney pvadje
Solyá lej-mantagnije
kindvej naradovje - rasja,
per j'viktorje gloreva
quen'njo ladava vetnajavè,
sur-èn battjale-mavijè.

2.
Fadva-ne mej patrija
Speriv'no immave redilna
Lucerveji te clavì,
p'libernja nos battevli.
En victorjemojl no-sej l'lhve
per erinnje mortije.
Citte, cittè tyranvja!
Ye nul-vjen Gorčisja!

3. (Royal, not part of anthem)
Diu proteve rojleva
sej scpetera e throuva,
quen le-no dûctorevo
dun y'alla trublijo
diu, maj-ye no ducterja
du'jm centa čenturia!
Diu! Protey- èn gidj herrneva
ey son popullj-Gorčiseja!
1.
Gorgisia awakens,
in the black-clouded morning.
Over the sunlit paths
her mountains shine.
the Nation's children, arise,
for the glorious victory
that awaits us this day again
in the battefields.

2.
Do not fade, my fatherland
our spirit is ready
even when satan clasps you,
we will struggle for liberty.
And the victory cry is our oath
to remember the fallen:
Tremble, Tremble tyrant!
You will not get Gorgisia!

God protect the king
his sceptre and his throne,
who as led us all
through every trouble yet.
God, make him lead us
through another ten centuries!
God! Protect and Guide our lord
And his Gorgisian people!

National Anthem
Hark! When the night is falling
Hark! Hear the pipes are calling,
Loudly and proudly calling, down through the glen.
There where the hills are sleeping,
Now feel the blood a-leaping,
High as the spirits of the olden Luso men.

Towering in majestic fame,
Lusitaniagrad my mountain hame,
High may your proud standards gloriously wave,
Land of my high endeavours,
Land of the shining rivers,
Land of in my heart for ever, Lusitaniagrad the brave.

Enthroned on the peak of her own highland mountains,
The Lusitanian spirit of reigns fearless and free,
Her green and blue tartan waving o'er blue rock and fountain,
And proudly she sings looking over the sea.

High in the misty Highlands,
Out by the snowy islands,
Brave are the hearts that beat beneath Lusitanian skies.
Wild are the winds to meet you,
Staunch are the friends that greet you,
Kind as the love that shines from fair maidens' eyes.

Far off in sunlit places,
Sad are the Lusitanian faces,
Yearning to feel the kiss of sweet Lusitanian mist.
Where tropic skies are beaming,
Love sets the heart a-dreaming,
Longing and dreaming for the homeland again.

It was written sometime in the 1800s and describes the Lusitanian Soul.

The flag is high, the ranks are firmly closed
S.A. marches in quiet steady step,
Comrades shot by the Red Front and Reactionists
Their Spirits march within our ranks!
Comrades shot by Red Front and Reactionists
Their Spirits march within our ranks

Clear the street for brown Battalions
Clear the street for storm-troops.!
Already millions look with hope to the Swastika
The day for freedom and for bread is here.
Already millions look in hope to the Swastika
The day for freedom and for bread has began.

For the last time the trumpets are calling !
We are ready for struggle
Soon Hitlers flags will flutter over all the streets
The enslavement will end shortly.
Soon Hitlers flags flutter over all the streets
The enslavement will end shortly.

The national anthem of the Socialist Republic is Oh, My Weapon.

It has been a long time oh my weapon!
I long for you in my struggle!
Speak and say I am awake,
Oh war it has been a long time.

It has been a long time for the soldiers,
Advancing with thunderous roar,
Swearing never to return,
Except with epoch-making victory.

Rise and close ranks,
With lives ready for sacrifice.
O! the horror that the enemy shall suffer,
From you in the fire of the battlefield.

O! glory our glory,
You who was built by us,
By toil and pain,
Never to go to waste.

Who shall protect the Rustonian lands?
We shall protect her with our weapons.
Land of the prosperity, who will sacrifice for her sake?
We will, with the blood of the Fascists.

The people advance like the light,
The people stand like mountains and seas,
Volcanoes of anger, volcanoes erupting,
Earthquakes digging the enemy into their graves.

However, the anthem of the National Union of Socialist and Communist parties (NUSC) is Three Colours.

With three colours I'm acquainted
Which recall a gallant race –
Since old times by glory sainted
Battles has it won apace.

For long ages our forefathers
Have this gallant flag unfurled,
So we may the land's fruit gather,
Building here the future's world.

This tricolour flag of ours
Flutters crimson, yellow, blue,
Like a star in skyey bowers
Rise my people, brave and true.

In this world we are a nation
Keen on work and of one soul.
Free and with new reputation,
Sharing one ambitious goal.

Now united by our ideal;
In Rustonia's meads and fields,
Our work is hard and hearty,
Building Communism its yield.

For the homeland's greater glory
We crush enemies at fight,
But we'd share a peaceful story
With all peoples in proud light.

Proud Rustonia, now dearer,
Live forever in fine light!
In the Communist new era
Like a star you must shine bright!

We have an instrumental national anthem - we have three official and two semi-official languages in Central Lothian. To avoid any one of them as being seen as "better" than the other four, we decided to completely forgo lyrics.
Please note: Central Lothian is the direct successor to Mid Lothian*. As a result, I am still called Rebecca, I am still a Grammar Nazi and most information pertaining to ML also applies to CL (although I will be taking this time to change a few things).

* - And I may refer to the country as Mid Lothian. If I do, assume that I mean Central Lothian. (And not to be confused with "Midlothian" - I'm using that as a fascist version of CL.)

Obviously. If there is one word that describes Kalasparata, it is obviously "smart."
