Contraception laws in your country?

Postby Unhiding » Mon Jul 18, 2011 8:59 pm

Are these methods of contraception allowed in your country (yes/no)? As in are people allowed to use these on their own will, are they limited (how) in some way or banned?

Here's our laws:
- by planning to not have children: free will so yes. No one is required to have children.
- by using condoms and other equipment: yes
- by taking pills and medicines: yes as long as one thinks those medicines are safe
- abstinence: yes, no requirements to get pregnant or have children
- abortion: yes without limits
- sterilization: on your own expense
- also are positive medicine like viagra allowed in your nation: yes, no limits
- are assisted reproductive treatments allowed to treat infertility. Treatments like In vitro fertilisation: yes, no limits
- tell us more about this issue in your nation:

As a general rule free will of people is essential and central part of the way people can chose to deal with this issue. However there are some limitations in regards to religions. If you have officially taken some religion as your own you are required to follow its rulings on this matter. Therefore certain options are not available to everyone. Each religion can choose its own ways and by choosing a religion you also need to abide its rulings. Condoms for example are not allowed to be sold to or used by catholics. If someone is found to break these rules he or she is to be executed for hiding his opinion or hiding his doings. Hiding stuff or opinions in illegal in the Dominion of Unhiding.

Also the state provides assisted reproductive treatment free of charge. But in case you choose to have abortion you are required to pay the expenses if the reasons are not acceptable (illness, major change in life, money).

Nitpick: Contraception explicitly refers to preventing conception; post-conception termination (abortion) is not covered by the term.

Most of the listed items are legal in Mount Shavano (abortion being the big exception). As for the degree to which society accepts them... it varies.

For example, it might depend on which pills/medicines.

You are correct.

However I added some other questions too to get a wider picture about the subject because those things are usually heavily connected with each other.

Why would we prohibit others from making the socially wise choice of planning families? It's so barbaric.

- by planning to not have children: Perfectly. It is the choice of the partners to or not to have a family.
- by using condoms and other equipment: Perfectly. There are no age or other group limitations for use.
- by taking pills and medicines: Perfectly legal and a common way.
- abstinence: If they so choose, but it is not the singular focus of Vermontian sexual education, nor should it be allowed to be. Considered a personal choice regarding the information presented about Sexual activity.
- abortion: Choice of the mother.
- sterilization: Individual's choice.
- also are positive medicine like viagra allowed in your nation: Yes...
- are assisted reproductive treatments allowed to treat infertility. Treatments like In vitro fertilisation: Not illegal.
- tell us more about this issue in your nation: Contraception is considered something to be made liberal in Vermont, and to be readily available to all to seek without any manner of deterrence. Measures such as sterilization are not popular, however it is considered a choice of the individual in question, as are other contraceptive services, and not a place for government to involve itself.

The Most Holy and Grand Empire of Christian Democrats is a center-right Catholic state.

- by planning to not have children: Yes. No one is required to have children.

- by using condoms and other equipment: Yes, but heavily taxed.

- by taking pills and medicines: Oral contraceptives are strictly regulated and may not be used for the primary reason of preventing pregnancy. They are available only by prescription and may be prescribed only for therapeutic purposes such as regulating menstrual cycles or correcting hormonal imbalances.

- abstinence: Yes. No one is required to engage in sexual intercourse. Extramarital sexual activities are strongly discouraged by the State (but are legal).

- abortion: Formerly illegal except to prevent the death of a pregnant woman. Since the passage of General Assembly Resolution 128 (Christian Democrats is a World Assembly member state), abortion is available when maternal life or health is at risk, when the fetus is defective, when pregnancy is the result of rape, and when the pregnant woman is younger than the age of consent (currently, age 14; formerly, age 16).

- sterilization: Yes, but heavily taxed. Compulsory sterilization is illegal in Christian Democrats.

- also are positive medicine like viagra allowed in your nation: Yes.

- are assisted reproductive treatments allowed to treat infertility. Treatments like In vitro fertilisation: Fertility treatments are legal. Artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization, and other "unnatural" methods of causing pregnancy are illegal.

- by planning to not have children: Perfectly legal.
- by using condoms and other equipment: Of course!
- by taking pills and medicines: If we allow condoms, why wouldn't we allow the pill?
- abstinence: Isn't this the same as #1?
- abortion: There's usually a very good reason a woman would do this, so it's perfectly legal.
- sterilization: Yes, and is voluntary.
- also are positive medicine like viagra allowed in your nation: Technically yes. However, the state has a near-monopoly (foreign corporations can compete on certain conditions) on basic pharmaceutical production, and sexual enhancement medicine are not in production.
- are assisted reproductive treatments allowed to treat infertility. Treatments like In vitro fertilisation: Of course they are. About 50% of all children are conceived in test-tubes and grow outside the mother, even if the parents are perfectly fertile on their own.
- tell us more about this issue in your nation: The right to plan one's family is considered a basic right in Frenequesta, hence the legality of nearly all of the above. The monopolization of the Freneq-Joplinian pharmaceutical industry is not only due to the rise of personalized medicine (making mass production of pills meaningless and thus not desirable for privatization and competition), but also because of the perception that such companies over-hyped the presence of certain disorders in the population in order to sell fundamentally needless wares, most notably sexual enhancement medicines, hence why they are almost totally unknown despite being legal.

Contraception...

- by planning to not have children: Legal.
- by using condoms and other equipment: Legal.
- by taking pills and medicines: Legal.
- abstinence: Legal. Promoted by the Catholic Church.
- abortion: Legal.
- sterilization: Legal.
- also are positive medicine like viagra allowed in your nation: Legal.
- are assisted reproductive treatments allowed to treat infertility. Treatments like In vitro fertilisation: Legal.
- tell us more about this issue in your nation:
Contraception is Valcluse is often dicussed at a family level and all forms of contraception are taught at secondary schools. Abortion is a more sensitive topic which is still debated. Abortion in Valcluse, whilst still legal, is discouraged unless absolutley necessary. Unlike in many other countries, condoms are available through vending machines outside of pharmacies. Contraceptive pills are available over the counter, provided that the person is over 17 years of age and have a valid doctor's certificate. Pills like Viagra do not require a doctor's certificate and are classed as "general medication".

All legal, but drugs and treatments must meet health and safety regulations.

- by planning to not have children: Yes - reproductive freedom and the right to foster a family is guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, and as with all such rights, the right not to exercise those rights is also protected.
- by using condoms and other equipment: Yes - condoms are a popular method of birth control and preventing the transfer of STDs, and are distributed for free in schools.
- by taking pills and medicines: Yes - the birth control pill is available for free with a prescription on the NHS, as is the morning after pill; both can also be purchased without prescription.
- abstinence: Yes - again, reproductive freedom.
- abortion: Yes - this comes under the Right to Bodily Autonomy, protected by Article One of the Bill of Rights.
- sterilization: No - the right to bodily autonomy and the right to reproductive freedom prevent the government from forcing sterilisation on anyone. People may choose to sterilise themselves - vasectomies are sometimes used by men looking for a permanent form of contraception.
- also are positive medicine like viagra allowed in your nation: Yes - again, such treatments are free with a prescription on the NHS, or can be purchased.
- are assisted reproductive treatments allowed to treat infertility. Treatments like In vitro fertilisation: Yes - eligible couples may receive such treatments free on the NHS.
- tell us more about this issue in your nation: Contraception is an entirely private issue and is left up to the individual and his partner. Children are given the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about contraception in schools, on the understanding that kids are probably going to have sex anyway, that even if they do it doesn't directly harm the rights of anyone else, and that if they do it without understanding the risks and how to avoid them they might end up ruining their lives.

- by planning to not have children:
Yes - the choice to have a family or not is solely up to the people involved. Period.

Yes - condoms are an essential and popular method to prevent unwanted pregnancy, the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, etc. Condoms are available in just about every convenience store, in vending machines, and given away for free by the government and educational institutions.
- by taking pills and medicines:
Yes - both available for purchase at the store, no prescription or age limitations apply.
- abstinence:
Yes - a person may choose to remain abstinent, although the practrice is not taught - or allowed to be taught - in Tsvarchivan schools.
- abortion:
Yes - one may seek an abortion at any point prior to giving birth, without age limitations, with consent of mother and doctor only.
- sterilization:
Yes - one may choose to sterilize themselves.
- also are positive medicine like viagra allowed in your nation:
Yes - available for purchase without prescription at most stores.
- are assisted reproductive treatments allowed to treat infertility. Treatments like In vitro fertilisation:
Yes - absolutely.

Simply put; not a place where the government should have any involvement in; those who wish to have children can have them; those that wish to use any form of birth control may do so; those that wish to sterilize themselves, no matter how taboo it may be, can; and those struggling with infertility should have access to help should they require it, just as contraception should be readily available and free to all those that wish to seek it.

- tell us more about this issue in your nation:
Sex as a whole is not a taboo of any kind in the Green Something. People are open about it and it is not considered as much personal thing as it some time ago was. Also due to the nation of Green Something being FT we have wide range of tools to control the issue. We don't really have any typical contraceptive pills or even any types of traditional contraceptives. We trust our nanobots doing the heavy lifting for us. Nanobots are injected into our children and can be turned later off with special device. When parents get a permit to have children they also get a device to control their nanobots in regards to this mater.
Also having children is not considered a basic right but something you need to earn.

- tell us more about this issue in your nation: Sex is the least of Lovaniye's troubles. Although it is used by the government as a means to suppress the lower-class and generate more workers for the grinder, the poorly educated and impoverished lower-class citizens fail to recognize this. Those born with the gift of a silver spoon will find that they need not reproduce, and in fact choose to adopt in many cases. Interestingly enough, the upper-class has few remaining original bloodlines because of this. The corporation-influenced government secretly encourages this, because it helps them to maintain a "every child is more money in the coffers" approach to the population. Impoverished families with multiple children are offered special benefits for adoption, discounts on medical products, and sometimes even protection against minor legal charges. After all, the child-care market is a small, yet important part of the Nation's income.

- by planning to not have children: Of course it's legal
- by using condoms and other equipment: Condoms and other such forms of contraception are encouraged throughout the nation and schools educated students about safe sex
- by taking pills and medicines: Perfectly legal, though some studies suggest that birth control pills may actually have an affect on one's chemical make-up, and that numerous people who have fallen in love while using it have lost attraction to the individual shortly after going off of it, though we are yet to confirm this.
- abstinence: Legal, though uncommon. Sexuality is viewed as natural here, so we don't see why it would only be special after marriage.
- abortion: It is the woman's right to have an abortion without consent needed from any other individual.
- sterilization: Yes, though quite uncommon
- also are positive medicine like viagra allowed in your nation: Of course
- are assisted reproductive treatments allowed to treat infertility. Treatments like In vitro fertilisation: Yes, certainly
- tell us more about this issue in your nation: Threlizdun is quite tolerant of sexual behaviors, so contraception is encouraged and easily accessable.
