The Duluban Massacre
The history of Montiar is one written in blood and misery. The ancestors of those who inhabit Montiar today originated from a historic nation known as Duluba. Duluba was a massive nation that held much power and authority in the world. Duluba stood for many of the modern day principles of many nations of the world. Things such as liberty, justice, and freedom. Duluba was arguably the first nation to have a modern day democracy. But these principles had earned Duluba many enemies. But these enemies feared Duluba whom had a massive military. She also had many allies, many allies who stood for peace and did all they could to promote it throughout the world.
These allies, unfortunately, believed that part of promoting peace throughout the world invlolved disarming one's own nation. This was a view that Duluba wisely did not share. But her allies pressured her into disarming, which she finally did under threat from trade sanctions which would have shattered the Duluban economy. But this proved to be a grave mistake, Duluba's enemies saw her disarm, and, in 1655, formed a coalition and took the chance to strike. They attacked viscously and without mercy targeting not only soldiers but civilians as well. It was then that something truly horiffic was realised: The enemy coalition not only wanted to defeat Duluba, but exterminate her people as well. This was what they believed to be their ultimate victory. They proved to be too much for Duluba's weakened military and quickly overwhelmed their foes. Her allies could do nothing as they themselves had already disarmed. All the people of Duluba could do was flee.
This would not prove to be easy. The enemy coalition formed an iron shield arond the Duluban survivors. They boxed them in and prepared for their final attack. Duluba's reamining force, a force of a mere 1,000 conscripts could not attack the enemy head on. But several Duluban scouts had come across a weak spot in the enemy lines. In a last bid to save their remaining people, the Duluban army striked. In a battle known as the Battle of Hope, the Duluban forces attacked and made a heroic last stand. The Duluban army fought to the very last man.

All of the Duluban conscripts were killed. But despite this, the battle was called a victory. The Duluban survivors, a mere 5 million people of the original 458 million Duluban people, escaped. They fled across the sea in a force of stolen merchant ships. After months at sea, the survivors landed on what would come to be known as Montiar. With Duluba gone, tyranny was free to reign across the world
