None, Sol Bella's economy couldn't support a large force of them, and frankly, our military believes that they're a bit of a waste. You could make two tanks each with twice the efficiency with the money it would take to make a basic mech.

EDIT July 29, 2011:

......

....and now our army is chalk full of Mechs.

The two more powerful mainstays used for supporting tour RG-31 Nyala APCs are the Horton 15 Medium Assault Mech ( viewtopic.php?f=6&t=46670 ) and the Osiris Light Assault Mech ( http://www.sarna.net/wiki/images/thumb/ ... Osiris.jpg ). The mainstay of the Sol Bellan Army, however, is her very own VioSuns D-1 Sun Tiger (which has no picture yet, but one will come soon), even though it is slightly shorter and lighter than the others, it makes up for this with shielding and speed.

Here are our Mechs (actually, we call them Walkers):

First, there's the M91 Medium Walker, designed to aid and support the troops:

Image

Then, there's the M60 man-portable walker, intended to give adequate support to infantry, they're smaller and weaker than the M91:

Image

Finally, there's the M100 Heavy Assault Walker, designed to carry troops as well as lead an assault against enemy-held strongholds and cities:

Image

The M91 is currently being replaced by the M73 Crocodile, slated to enter service by 2820:

Image

We are also testing a new Heavy Walker, the XM6 Majungasaurus, designed to conduct heavy assaults on the enemy and unleash a punishing barrage of fire on hostile forces:

Cuirassier armor is the heaviest worn in the Russian and Cossack armies, being designed primarily for head-on attacks against formations of infantry. They have very heavy armor and shielding, combined with fairly high speed and the ability to carry impressive firepower, although their primary weapon is a six foot long powered saber.

Interesting. I actually consider OMGeverynameistaken to have the best overall design. Why? because it would be useful for both invasion (attack) and defence (should he be invaded). Truly large mechs and tanks are only viable or useful if you are winning, or otherwise invading. Large mechs and tanks are rather useless for defence because they make easy targets on the ground due to their relatively relatively large size and slow movement. Furthermore, I agree with Sol Bella's point as well.

We do not have any mechs or tanks per say, but rather; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oVUwG0q ... re=related

The People's Republic experimented briefly with powered exoskeletons:

However, whilst this could drastically bolster firepower awarded to troops, similar effect could be given by existing armoured vehicles, which were much more stable, reliable, mobile, armoured and survivable.

So the projects were, in fact, scrapped.

I do not see it as a mech really. More like a large suit of powered armour. The way I see it, if your civilization has mastered gravity, things like mechs and tanks become obsolete. However, on the other hand, there's always the rule of cool! :D

We don't use mechs for the purpose of warfare, for reasons already pointed out by others in this thread, though we do use T-Rex mechs to guard our prisons and as post-invasion law enforcement, because of the fear factor. That said, they're not as reliable as the more traditional tank, though probably more so than an actual T-Rex.

Oh, and then there's our mobile fortresses. I suppose you could classify them as mechs.

We don't call them mechs, we call them walkers... mech/mecha is a bad name

W-1 "Shredder" Powered Mobile Suit

The W-1 Shredder is an anti-infantry walker that had 2 GS-8 Heavy Miniguns as its weaponry on both its "Hands".
When infantry see them, a panic event is expected to happen. Its miniguns can tear through any kind of armor
that a soldier has. It is also a problem for light vehicles. It does not use oil but uses stored solar power batteries
as its power.

History: The Rainarian Military was looking for a solution to eliminate infantry eradicating its convoys. Sarena Tank Designers so that problem and then
developed a walker that was adept at killing infantry. When it was tested, the dummies parts were completely
shredded which gives its nickname as the "Shredder"

Image

Specifications:
Road Speed: 43MPH
Off-road speed: 43MPH
Primary Armament: x2 GS-8 Heavy Minigun
Crew: 1 (Driver is Gunner)
Length: 3 meters
Width: 2.5 Meters
Height: 17 Ft
Operating Range: 342 Miles
Weight: 40.3 Tons
Armor: Raluran Composite
Engine: Sarena WE-1 Engine
Cost: $16 million

W-2 Marauder mk II Powered Mobile Suit/Walker

The W-2 Marauder II is a walker that has a 175mm Cannon on its right side. It has a tough armor and can destroy
a tank in 1 or 3 shots. It has tough armor and fair speed. It may work aside Shredders though. Like its brother,
it uses stored solar batteries.

History: When the walker tech was a success, Sarena Tank Designers then made the W-2 Marauder II.
It was also a potential success. With a powerful gun and tough armor, this was not a thing to be
reckoned with. It carries the name of the XA1E "Marauder" but is not intended to replace it.

Image

Specifications:
Road Speed: 40MPH
Off-road speed: 40MPH
Primary Armament: 175MM Cannon
Crew: 1 (Driver is Gunner)
Length: 6 Meters
Cannon Length: 2.3 Meters
Width: 3.4 Meters
Height: 9 Meters
Operating Range: 435 Miles
Weight: 43.4 Tons
Armor: Double-Layered Raluran Composite
Engine: Sarena WE-2 Engine
Cost: $18 Million

W-3 "Death-bringer" Heavy Walker

The W-3 Deathbringer Walker is the toughest Walker ever designed by Sarena Tank Designers Inc. It has 4 Railgun ports, 2 SAM Batteries, and 1 Chaingun.
It was named the Deathbringer as one of these can destroy an entire base. It also has some defense against aircraft as Sarena engineers
know that this walker will be vulnerable to aircraft. Just like its brothers, they use solar cells to power them. They only recharge when inactive.
It clearly has disadvantages. One that it was slow and an easy target for quick vehicles, And, if infantry were lucky enough, They could plant C-4 on one of its legs which would cause the walker to collapse. However, when used properly, A swift victory is expected.

History: The Rainarian Military was looking for power as its walkers were picked as easy targets for missiles. Sarena Tank Engineers reverse engineered
an XB2E Behemoth Tank and came up with a walker that was so powerful that it packed fear upon local terrorists. Now, it is in production.

Image

Specifications:
Road Speed: 34MPH
Off-road speed: 34MPH
Primary Armament: x4 Railguns, x2 SAM Batteries, x1 Chaingun
Crew: 10 (Driver, Co-driver, Gunner (3), Loader (3), Communications Officer, Engineer)
Length: 26 Meters
Width: 7 Meters
Height: 57 Ft
Operating Range: 1000 Miles
Weight: 100.84 Tons
Armor: Triple-Layered Raluran Composite
Engine: SE-1 Compact Solar Engine
Cost: $50 Million

This ugly bastard code-named IRVING; though most people tend to call it a Lizard, is the standard operated model of advanced artificially controlled power armor; or 'mecha' utilized by the United States Army. Highly agile and somewhat heavily armed they tend to be referred to as the bane of infantry forces when deployed; though heavier weapons can take them out fairly easily.

^ I deploy that in both PMT and FT; for the record; by FT's rolling around the Gecko has become largely useless; and is more so a museum piece deployed against Nod forces in remote areas where it can still land on top of their beloved Scorpion tanks and crush them flat.

History

Several years ago, Project Mad Dog was started, with one hundred scientists and engineers working on designing mechs for combat. The tall, legged design was chosen over traditional vehicle types for the psychological impact it would have in battles rather than from a tactical standpoint. Eventually, two designs were shaped: A small, fast scout walker and a massive walking version of the tank destroyer. Both of these are remotely controlled or autonomous.

Design

Shredder
360 view of Shredder
The Shredder was originally made as a fast scout, being able to move along at a fast speed of 58 MPH/93 KPH. Armed with two six-barreled 7.62mm Gatling guns, the Shredder, named because of this, can shred light vehicles and infantry, even when the latter is in cover. The problem of ammunition was solved by halving the rate of fire to 1300 RPM and the ammunition boxes carry enough bullets for continuous fire for three minutes. As it is roughly twelve feet tall, is can see and shoot over most obstacles. The guns can also swivel up and down up to 45 degrees, so the Shredder has a limited anti-air capability.

The Shredder has ceramic and hardened aluminum, with an inner lining of 75mm RHA. Additionally, cage armor, reactive armor, and additional RHA can be added. The Shredder can withstand a direct hit from an AT-4 light antitank rocket launcher. The insides are built to be as reliable as possible, so even if the armor is penetrated, the Shredder will be at least partially operational. Indeed, the only electronic systems on board is the radio and computer. The rear is not armored, however, as weight is always a problem. As long as the thick front armor is kept toward the enemy, there is not a large chance it will be badly damaged. The legs are thickly clad in heavy armor, being a obvious weak spot. Their hydraulics are completely encased in blast resistant armor, and the joints are made of strong alloys. From the front, the only weak spot is the waist, which the front plate does not cover. In modified versions, there is armor that hangs down over it. Still, this spot, if damaged, will incapacitate the entire machine, if not cripple it.

The problem of balance was solved with a Segway-like system: A gyroscope tells a series of weights if and where the Shredder is overbalancing, and the weights shift accordingly to keep the center of gravity above the tipping point. Needless to say, if the gyroscope is damaged, or too many weights are lost, the Shredder will be in serious danger of tipping. As before, as long as the frontal armor is facing the shots, all will be fine. The Shredder is, unfortunately, unable to swivel at the torso.

Smasher
Smasher
The Smasher was named after the nickname for the carronade, an old naval gun. The carronade functioned by shooting a large projectile at low speeds, so instead of making a clean hole through a ship's timberwork, it would rip and shred the insides. The carronade was called the 'smasher' due to its huge destructive capacity.

The Smasher is a 25-foot tall walking antitank gun. Its main armament is a 128mm "Nutcracker" recoilless rifle. An optional armament is to have a weapon mounted on the top, a remote weapon station for a .30- or .50 caliber machine gun, a 20mm, or a 40mm grenade launcher. The cannon has forty-eight rounds in the storage compartment, mounted in blowout panels so if the ammunition is exploded the vehicle will not be destroyed. The autoloader can get off one round every four to five seconds, and the 128mm shell fires AFPSDS rounds, HEAT, HESH, beehive munitions(Or shotgun shells, i.e. the XM1028), or illumination shells. The 128mm is able to penetrate most modern tank armor, though it has trouble when used against Chobham-type heavy armor packages.

The Smasher's armor is made of heavy alloys, such as DU, titanium carbide, and other hard metals. The armor is similar to Chobham, the famous armor package installed on the M1 Abrams and Challenger II tanks. Obviously, it is lighter than Chobham, shaving off some of the layers and decreasing its protection. This is so because normal Chobham is hard and expensive to mass produce, and it would also weight down the Smasher down too much, and it would become too top-heavy. The armor can withstand a direct 105mm M68A2 shell and is survivable aainst 120mm M256 rounds. The Smasher, like the Shredder, is often modified to use additional armor like ERA and cage armor. The back is nearly always equipped with cage armor, and to top with ERA when weapon stations are not added. Unlike the Shredder, the Smasher is able to rotate at the torso, allowing it to engage targets on the move without having to go directly at them.

The Smasher moves along at a plodding pace of 25 MPH/40 KPH. At this speed, it cannot go very far, but it makes up for this by being able to cross nearly any terrain, thanks to its long and powerful legs. Like the Shredder, the Smasher's leg hydraulics are completely encased in armor, and the joints are made of even stronger materials, due to the significant monetary value attached to the Smasher.(Noe: Unofficially, the legs are a weapon, able to kick and crush small vehicles and personnel - pilots often take advantage of this, and when controlled by a computer, they are programmed to take this into account) The rear of the Smasher has some armor, mostly hardened aluminum and RHA, and the torso is covered in carbon fibers able to withstand most small-arms fire but is nonetheless a weak point. The stabilization system is identical, albeit larger, than the Shredder's.
