New Hippostanian National Anthem - Vote for your favorite!

Postby Hippostania » Mon Jul 11, 2011 12:10 pm

The Parliament of the Republic of Hippostania has decided to adopt a new national anthem to replace the old, disliked ''Flag Song''. We has accepted three different proposals and has decided to organize a referendum to decide which anthem Hippostania will adopt. There are three choices, listed below. Voting will end on Friday, July 15th.

1 - Long Live Free Hippostania
2 - Hippostania Our Land
3 - Rise, Voices of Hippostania

I apologize the parts that don't fit or rhyme, I made most of the lyrics myself. Sorry about that.

Can you sing? Can you speak English well? Read this!
I am looking for someone who could sing these anthems and record them for me. TG me for more information!

Third one. But I frankly liked your previous one the best.

Meh, I never liked it. It was too long, too slow and simply, just plain boring.

I voted for 1, but don't really have a preference between 1 and 2. I strongly dislike 3, however. The tune is too well known; using it would, IMO, make a mess out of the 4th wall.

BTW, 2 and 3 I've identified, but not 1. I'm assuming you are trying to not name the tunes, but would you mind TGing the name to me?

Let's see... A choice between the Dutch Wilhelmus, die Stem van Suid-Afrika and Beethoven's Ode an die Freude. I'd have to go for die Stem. I'm not sure what attracts you to het Wilhelmus though, seeing how you aren't a Dutch country in any way or form.

I voted the second one. The first one is the Wilhelmus, the Dutch anthem. I'm Dutch, so I like it, but I liked the 2nd one more.

I just like the tune of that song, it's so calm yet so.. how should I say it.. powerful. Het Wilhelmus also isn't as popular and known as some European anthems like La Marseillaise and Deutschlandslied for example. I did consider songs like La Marseillaise and the Soviet Anthem, but they were simply way too known and popular. It would've just sounded weird.

I still think it sounds weird for a supposedly not Dutch country to use and Orange-White-Blue and the Dutch Wilhelmus. Both are related to or seen as Dutch symbols.

Ehm well.. You could say that I used Het Wilhelmus because I have a Dutch-style flag :D
And besides, there is a small Dutch minority in Hippostania, I've mentioned that in some other thread :)

But you don't make an anthem for one single minority. And even a country like the Orange Free State wouldn't use the Dutch anthem, even though the clear majority of Dutchmen. You aren't related to the Netherlands at all except for some Dutchmen living in your country, and I'd argue the flag and soon also the anthem, even though you have constantly denied this.
