Food culture in your nation

Postby Seperate Vermont » Sun Jul 10, 2011 7:18 pm

What is the general serving size of meats and other "food groups"?
Are there traditional meals taken during the course of the day? Specific foods or times? Is there a cultural focus on one meal?
What role has culture played in your nation's foods, and vice versa?
How varied/healthy is your nation's diet? What are it's staples?
No, we are not obsessed with Maple Syrup. Speaking of that, Would you like some 100% Pure Vermont Maple Syrup? We have a surplus this year.

What is the general serving size of meats and other "food groups"?
3 oz fish, 1 cup grain, 2.5 cups vegetables, 1.5 cups fruits.
Are there traditional meals taken during the course of the day?
Yogurt is eaten between meals to stave off hunger and to prevent one from overeating.
Specific foods or times?
Breakfast is usually between 5 and 8, while lunch is anywhere from 12 to 16, and then dinner is anywhere from 19 to 22. Lunch usually consists of a salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, shrimp topped with vinaigrette; breakfast is usually a fruit bowl with plain yogurt or multigrain oat cereal with almond milk (no animal derived milk). Dinner is a much hardier meal consisting of usually whole wheat pasta served with copious amounts of vegetables (usually steamed green beans, asparagus or broccoli), accompanied by a filet of fish (mahi-mahi preferably).
Is there a cultural focus on one meal?
Dinner is considered the most important meal of the day, as it brings the family together at the dinner table to talk amongst each other after a long day.
What role has culture played in your nation's foods, and vice versa?
Our pescetarian dietary habits have played quite a large role on our nation's food - animal products and byproducts are never used in Tsvarchivan cuisine.
How varied/healthy is your nation's diet?
The Tsvarchivan diet is lean, full of fiber and protein, and low fat. Dietary supplements are taken to get the necessary nutrients that Tsvarchivans don't obtain from abstaining from land based animal products and byproducts, but overall it is actually a healthy diet which leaves us with some of the lowest rates of obesity in the world, as well as a high life expectancy.
What are it's staples?
Fish and shellfish (mahi-mahi, crab legs, tuna, shrimp, eel), low fat, high protein and fiber, steamed, whole grains, fruits (mangoes, pineapples, coconuts), vegetables (broccoli, asparagus, green beans)

What is the general serving size of meats and other "food groups"?
It really depends on the individual's species

Are there traditional meals taken during the course of the day? Specific foods or times? Is there a cultural focus on one meal?
Of course! For herbivores, toast, cereal, and hash browns are consumed for breakfast, PB&J sandwiches, salads, and fruit for lunch, and monster salads and large servings of vegetables and fruit for dinner. For carnivores, bacon, eggs, and sausage for breakfast, slices of ham and roast beef for lunch, and steak, ham, beef, pork, turkey, and other meats for dinner. For fish-eaters, kippers for breakfast, tuna and sardines for lunch, and salmon, halibut, lobster, and other fish meats for dinner. And for omnivores, it's basically all of the above.

What role has culture played in your nation's foods, and vice versa?
People stick to their respective species' natural diets, an omnivore or carnivore becoming a vegetarian is seen as unnatural and that individual is commonly mocked ruthlessly or worse.

How varied/healthy is your nation's diet? What are it's staples?
Extremely varied, due to the many species in Saurisia and their different diets. Staples are Vegetables for herbivores, meat for carnivores, seafood for fish-eaters, and meat, vegetables, and fruit for omnivores.

Lamb and couscous are our staple foods. Various gourds, legumes and leafy vegetables are also common. Berries are common all over the planet and are commonly eaten. Dates are grown near the equatorial regions, where the climate becomes Mediterranean.

It all varies on the person.
What are it's staples?
Rice, both white and brown, is very common.

What is the general serving size of meats and other "food groups"? 3 glasses of Energon, dipped from the day's Cube, are generally taken at one time.

Are there traditional meals taken during the course of the day? Specific foods or times? Is there a cultural focus on one meal? Energon, glorious Energon, is THE fuel of the Decepticons. No heed is paid to timing; an engine is not going to keep running if it's out of Energon whether it's near a particular time or not.

What role has culture played in your nation's foods, and vice versa? Everything. It's inseparable. Energon is our fuel and our currency. We raid and war to get the materials to make it - and the preferred base material is crude oil. Without this system, billions of raiders would have no way to make money, and both the economy and society itself would collapse.

Energon can actually be made from pretty much any high-energy source, but oil is thought to produce the best taste. This taste difference exists, but the difference is often greatly exaggerated by oil raiders and refineries to keep the demand for their products high. This has hampered the wide scale use of biofuel bases, electrically-charged Energon, and other such variations.

How varied/healthy is your nation's diet?
Very healthy for us - but not at all varied. The only time we drink something other than Energon is if we're stranded without any on some other world. In those instances, ethanol is a workable temporary substitute.

Many of us have also installed solar-collector paint to allow their Energon to stretch further, but since the generated electricity isn't really "ingested," we don't consider it to be in the same category.

What are it's staples?

Energon!

What is the general serving size of meats and other "food groups"?
5 parts carbohydrates, 3 parts proteins, 2 parts fats

Are there traditional meals taken during the course of the day? Specific foods or times? Is there a cultural focus on one meal?
Generally, there are three meals in the day: one upon waking, one mid-day, and one prior to sleep.

What role has culture played in your nation's foods, and vice versa?
The lack of arable land (it's kind of hard to have a pasture floating in midair) resulted in a heavy emphasis on high-density water-based crops and waterborne livestock. North American, Asian, and Pacific Island influences are still prevalent.

How varied/healthy is your nation's diet? What are it's staples?
Staples include rice, fish (including shellfish), seaweed, and other aquatically-grown plants. Hydroponic agriculture is allowing for an increase in normally land-grown crops, and thus soy and wheat are becoming increasingly common. Large livestock, such as cattle, swine, and poultry, are also much easier to raise now, thanks to modern advances in high-altitude ranching.
