For those of you that have signed up in my other thread here is your first step, for those of you that don't have it yet please go download the official version of Gimp here. http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Afterwards we will get started by familarizing ourselves with the basics of Gimp.

I'm using my iPad, since I am at my mothers house. When I get dropped off at my father's house, I can download GIMP. Thank you for these lessons though, they really mean a lot to people, including me.
I'm Morrissey... Nice to meet you.

If you are reading this I will assume that you have installed Gimp and have it open.

The next step will be to understand how to make a new file, a pretty simple process. First look to the upper left hand corner and find the tab that says File, click on it, then click on New, a screen will pop up called Create a new image.

It should say Image size, Width 640, height 400, if it does not then type in these values now in the appropriate fields. If it will not allow you to get these numbers go below height and choose the icon that is widest to select portrait mode, then finally press Ok and it should come up with a white screen. If it is not white do not worry it will not matter.

After you have completed this please TG me saying so. After I receive a few TG's I will move on and post the next lesson.

Ok we will now get acquainted with the pencil tool. The pencil tool can be found in the toolbox which is a small column of to the side. The pencil tool is there. It should be pretty easy to find, since it is in the shape of a pencil. Once you have found it select it. beneath all of the tools it should show some settings for the pencil. For now we will ignore them all except for the brush tab and the scale slide.

Now click on the brush tab and click on the third largest solid circle, it should say in the text bar next to it, "Circle 15" once you have that click on the scale meter text bar and type in "0.50" then press enter.

Now we are ready to begin our first basic flag, it will be a black and white flag.

Go about a third of the way down on the left side. You should see numbers on the left side go down to the one that says 100 and click right next to it. Now let go of the mouse and hold shift, this causes it to make a straight line to wherever you point, now while holding shift also press and hold control. Bring the line across the screen as straight as you can, it doesnt have to be straight, now if you are holding control it should make a perfectly straight line when you click at the other side.

Repeat the last few steps only this time make a line at the number 300.

Next, look back at the toolbox a few spaces to the left of the pencil tool there should be a paintbucket icon, select it now. Now find the settings for the paintbucket and look directly above them, there should be two boxes, a black and a white one. click the arrow icon next to them until the black box is in front. Now go up to the top box that we made with the one black line and click in the white space with the paintbucket, it should fill that space with black, nowhere else. Now do the same for the bottom box. And you have your first flag!

Not very impressive, but its a start. Before we move on please makes sure you are very familiar with the pencil and paintbucket tools.
