How do you celebrate the New Year?

Postby Vallermoore » Thu Jul 07, 2011 5:55 pm

In Vallermoore as well as lots of fireworks and too much alcohol people jump off chairs at midnight, hug and kiss each other, form circles and dance and sing the New Year song.

Usually, Romalae parties and hosts festivals. The traditions vary depending on the people and the city, but there is definitely a lot of action.

This is a bit "Out of Season" but we usually just do whatever.

Bombs. We call them fireworks, but foreigners would probably call them bombs, as there's nothing colorful about them -- just large amounts of TNT being detonated while people cheer and drink Baijiu.

If you need lineart done, specifically edged weapons, bludgeons or firearms, and you need them done in a slightly stylized low-pixel way, and you need them done in under a goddamn hour, I'm your guy.

Samhuinn (Samhain), October 31st is the New Year in h-Alba. People in towns and villages build bonfires in the town centre, where the towns people drink, eat food (everyone cooks and brings food for the party), dances, and spends time with each other. The same happens in large cities, but instead bonfires are done by City District instead of one for the entire town or village.

In recent years fireworks have become common for larger towns and cities, on 12:00 AM to mark the first full day of the New Year (in h-Alba the day begins once night falls, usually around 6:00 pm around this time of the year.)

The Royal Family hosts a huge festival in Tsvarchi Square the 24 hours before midnight of the next year. There are tons of games, concerts, food, alcohol, and other shenanigans. At midnight the entire city turns into a huge rave party as one huge light show engulfs the streets and fireworks are set off in the Sikhoniya river.

In Xanicea, business stops the day before New Years and preparations are made for huge feasts and parties across the nation. Bars are opened to all, inmates are allowed to go out and be among the people (though they are watched by guards, and may consume no alcohol nor drugs), and drugs are freely passed around. The entire nation turns into a giant college party, as literal masses of rioting go on in the streets (kept in check by the police force, though leniency is a bit higher on New Years) and people get wasted to ring in the New Years. The day after, businesses are open only half-day, as people are allowed to recuperate from the drug withdrawal and hangovers they experience after the party is over.

100% of government spending goes to "stuff government spends money on."

I know. I am just as shocked as you are.
