How Does Your Nation Celebrate Its Founders’/Independence Da

We all gaze silently at the stars while holding hands, remembering how science has helped us liberate our minds and build society with a better understanding and respect for each other.
And so we remember being liberated from the clutches of the fear masquerading as religion, and the era of peace which followed, unbroken, ever since.
We then enjoy a hearty meal with our neighbours, family and friends, in cheer and mutual understanding of the greatness of the intellect.

This happens June 6 every year.

FOUNDER'S DAY

Vermmeria was founded officially in 4633 BC, and so Founder's Day takes place every year on 25th May (funnily enough, the birthday of our current President).

Celebrations

Celebrations include massive firework displays, military parades throughout the capital Equestria and a speech by the King/Queen.

FREEDOM DAY

Freedom Day remembers July 7th 1598 when the Third Vermmerian Civil War put an end to the monarch dictatorship of the God's Army what had ruled since a coup in 120 AD, bringing forth a new age in the country and the naming of the nation the Grand Empire of Vermmeria. SInce 120 AD, the country had been named Dynastia but was and forever will be the Grand Empire of Vermmeria.

Celebrations

Everyone has the day off work and school except for select members of the military who participate in a massive military parade through Equestria, followed by displays by the Royal Air Force and Royal Sky Navy. Enormous firework displays go off, huge public picnics take place and the Royal Blades (the oldest branch of our military, essentially medieval knights in gold and red armour) lead a parade with the Emperor, Empress, King and Queen. The country's national football (soccer to you Americans) tournament starts the next day on July 8th.


LOVE DAY

Possibly the most important holiday of the year for Vermmeria, this day is dedicated to peace and love and is on October 15th. Vermmeria is and will remain a peaceful nation. All countries need a military at some point so we have one, but on this day everyone has the day off, including the armed forces. This day is to remember that we have gotten where we are today not through tyranny or aggression but through peace and compassion. We have never fought a nation that wasn't abusing the rights of our fellow human beings (or dinosaurs/kangaroos in some nation's case) and so we must remember that many people have died not just to preserve our country's freedom but to preserve all the world's freedom. Love Day is not dedicated to our nation. It is dedicated to all the world.

Celebrations

Millions of people gather around the enormous Peace Graves, a massive graveyard of all the Vermmerian people bestowed with the honour to be buried in a place the signifies them all protectors of peace. Not through war, they got peace through peace. Every one of the people gathered around the graves lights a candle and holds it up, standing in silence to remember what we and the world have achieved.

Founders Day on September 2nd is normally quite spectacular. Citizens normally get together with family and friends or go to the capital and celebrate. There is a large parade in the capital, and some towns create their own parades just for the fun of it. Fireworks are also a large part of the celebration and most people buy some for themselves to use at their home.

This is the traditional calendar of the celebrations, though not celebrated by everyone:
Day 1: People eat nothing but champ, a mixture of mashed potato, butter, milk and scallions, drink only water and milk and sing patriotic songs.
Day 2: People light 3 candles in their homes to symbolise the 3 founders of the nation.
Day 3: No meat is eaten on this day.
Day 4: A massive pop concert takes place in An Pháirc na Saoirse, with standing space for 400,000 and seating for 50,000. Concerts also take place in small towns.
Day 5: Most people of the nation plant 1 tree each, in their local wood.
Day 6: People traditionally eat salmon sushi in the evening.
Day 7: (Liberation day) Massive carnival through the streets of New Killarney. Chilli con carne, baked potatoes and corn chips are given out by the government in stalls on the streets of the capital and all other towns and villages with a population of over 500.

No matter what, though, there is a time of commendation, and that set date is your nation’s Founders’ Day or Independence Day.

How do your people celebrate it? Are there fireworks? Picnics? Ceremonies? Is there anything compulsory that citizens must do? What is your citizenry’s general opinion on celebration of their heritage?

Er, well, not every realm has a definite date of being founded, actually. The Batory Empire doesn't, as its foundation cannot be precisely dated.

However, the Empire does celebrate itself on what in foreign calender's is called June 21st. This is essentially the Imperial Military's day. The Batory clan themselves hold December 21st, Ithtyr's night, to be the most important holiday.
