Psychotic Dictatorship

Postby Thurask » Thu Jun 30, 2011 10:40 am

General Information

Nation Title: The Socialist People's Republic of Thurask
Form of Government: Parliamentary republic
National Leader(s): President Richard Fowler, Prime Minister Anna Holmes
Political Orientation: Far-left, Leninist
Economic Orientation: Planned

Politics and Governance:
What are is your nation's predominant view on the following; be as detailed as you please but a simple agree/disagree is adequate. (If you would, please answer directly after or below the bold brackets in normal font)

Democracy: We let our people have a say in things, if they want something done they can consult local government or their local Party office.
Representative Democracy: Less chaotic than direct democracy.
Direct Democracy: It might work for a house, or city block, although with a population of almost 4 billion people that isn't going to happen any time soon.
Monarchy: Absolute monarchies seem to breed inbred, insane tyrants while constitutional monarchies are simply representative democracies with a few unnecessary steps in the process.
Absolute: As above.
Constitutional: As above.
Oligarchy: If they are in the nation's best interest, a temporary ruling council in the case of emergency could work.
Republicanism: It seems to come natural to us.
Dictatorship/Totalitarianism: Evil things.
Fascism: The last gasp from the dustbin of history.
Anarchism: People would naturally flock to an established order, be it between themselves or nation-wide.
Anarcho-Capitalism: The state would simply be replaced by large companies.
Anarcho-Mutualism: Good in theory, although we feel a central body must coordinate all payments and such to ensure that people actually do get what they need.
Anarcho-Communism: We feel that the time and conditions need to be right in order to transition to true communism.
Socialist Vanguard State: We are one...
Theocracy: Fairy tales should be kept in hotel drawers, not halls of justice.
Secularism: A government without religion has one less barrier on civil rights to deal with.
Authoritarianism: The state should not crush the people, but we feel the state should still do something when it comes to tending to the populace.
Libertarianism: "Freedom" is a relative term with significant overlap into "freedom to kill", "freedom to enslave", et cetera.
Conservatism: Dustbin...
Progressivism: Policies are always changing to fit the people's needs.
Militarism: We feel that the military is the backbone of a strong society.
Pacifism: To an extent, there always seem to be easily-irritable nations out there.
Nationalism: Being proud of one's country is an admirable thing, killing an immigrant in the name of it isn't.
Internationalism: We support our brothers world-wide in their struggle on the path towards communism.
Individualism: The individual is quite a selfish person...
Collectivism: Only in unity can a nation deal with every possible hardship.

Capitalism: A flawed and evil system.
Communism: Our final goal.
Socialism: Where we are now.
Free Market/Laissez-Faire Economics: "Free" for the men at the top, the ones at the bottom get nothing.
Mixed Market/Third Way Economics: Socialism that is corroded by capitalism, no thank you.
Centrally Planned/Controlled Economics: How we run things around here.
Gift Economics: We find this agreeable, although at least a modicum of compensation for the laborer should happen.
Traditional/Primitive Economics: We are sufficiently modernized to disregard this.
Agrarianism: Industry is the key to civilization, although a significant agricultural sector must be kept around to feed the people.
Corporatism: To a point, until "corporation" becomes "cabal".
Welfarism: The state is the guardsman of the people, although the guardsman operates on the will of its "employer".
Syndicalism (Trade Unionism): Unions are the first step to a government of the proletariat.
Globalization: Capitalism's final form, a disease.
Free Trade: See "Free Market/Laissez-Fair Economics"
Fair Trade: Not much, although more preferable than outright exploitation.
Protectionism: A start on the path to self-sufficiency.
Feudalism: Dustbin...
Environmentalism: To a point, the needs of the people are above the needs of a small group of woodland creatures.
Consumerism: Slavery, just to an idea instead of a person.
Racism: It has no place in modern society.
Multiculturalism: An inevitable effect of technological, societal and moral progress.

[spoiler=Section 3 - Social Policy & Freedoms]
What is the Legal Status of the Following Social Issues? (Note: Elaboration on the social attitudes toward any these issues them can be found in the second questionnaire)

Private Property: Limited personal property is allowed (anything that does not constitute a private means of production).
Freedom of Speech: Allowed, except for hate speech.
Freedom of Association: Allowed.
Gun Ownership: Allowed, with the necessary permits.
Abortion: Allowed at any point in the pregnancy, with the mother's/couple's consent.
Gay Marriage: Allowed, including adoption.
Alcohol: Allowed after 16, although drunk driving and public intoxication are illegal.
Tobacco: Allowed after 16.
Drugs: Medicinal only, except for cannabis.
Cannabis: Allowed after 16, sold alongside tobacco.
"Soft Drugs": Illegal, save cannabis.
"Hard Drugs": Illegal.

Censorship: Only in the case of hate speech.
Prostitution: Illegal, although there are proposals in the works to legalize it.
Slavery: Illegal.
Age Of Consent: 16
Freedom of Religion/Conscience: Allowed.

What is your nations prominent views regarding the following: (Answer to your best ability. If you don't feel like writing much, feel free to simply write; popular/unpopular but anything you'd like to add, even pictures or musical links provided they are spoilered is welcome.)

How Does Your Nation View and Treat?

Artists: Not as highly as other fields, although people still like a good painting or two on their wall.
Actors: Stage actors are valued less than TV/film actors, even though there is significant overlap between the fields.
Musicians: Very popular.
Clowns: Popular amongst most children.
Writers: Writers are quite popular, especially thriller and science fiction writers.
Intellectuals: Intelligence is a virtue over here, although ivory towers are not looked kindly upon.
Scientists: One of the cornerstones of a modern society.
Entrepreneurs: Not looked that highly upon, although new ideas are always welcome.
Industrialists: Almost hated.
Missionaries & Priests: Usually greeted with rocks, fists.
Foreigners: Allowed, although they are expected to not cause a disturbance.

What Is Popular In Your Nation?
(Note: By "Popular", We are asking what is the most popular form/genre/style in your nation. )

Popular Music: Besides orchestral, there is also light rock and 1950s-esque pop.
Orchestral Music: Very popular, the most popular composer in Thurask is Wagner.
Jazz & Swing Music: Moderately popular, mostly in urban areas.
Popular Dance: Dance is usually looked at with disdain.
Ballet: Not that popular, the music from a ballet might be more popular than the ballet itself.
Theatre: Moderately popular, the usual play is a comedy intended to entertain, not provoke.
Opera: Moderately popular, tastes seem to gravitate towards older operas, although the occasional modern opera cuts the mustard.
Popular Sports: Soccer, other sports are almost non-existent.
Gladiatorial Combat: The closest we have to that would be a soccer brawl.
Popular Art: Paintings, usually of landscapes and portraits.
Modern Art: Garbage, for the most part.
Traditional Art: People see it as better than modern art.
Popular Fashion: Business suits, or school uniforms for school-age children. The most casual Thuraski would still wear a collared shirt, for one.
Popular Food: Pork and rice, in all its variations.

How does your society feel about the following issues?

Public Nudity: Frowned upon.
Public Displays of Affection: They'd accept it, but no public sex.
Gambling: Illegal, people hate it.
Alcohol: One of the key elements to a good party.
Drug Use: As long as it is in your own home.
Partying: Not too loudly, and with minimal drunks staggering out the door.
Gun Ownership: As long as the gun is registered and kept in a safe place.
Homosexuality: Allowed and accepted by society.
Transsexualism: In the rare case that it happens, accepted by society.
Pre-Marital Sex: Not frowned upon, but not accepted either.
Family: A family is simply a smaller version of a national brotherhood.
Marriage: A simple legal contract affirming the love between two parties.
Prostitution: The extent of capitalism is enough to make women sell themselves for money.
Charity: Income equality in Thurask is almost total, so whatever poor there are mostly get help from the government to get (back) on their feet.
Competition: People must work together to achieve their goals, not against each other.
Cooperation: As above.
Privacy: To a point, the most secretive people seem to always have a damning or incriminating secret about them.
Intolerance: A sign of a backward time.
Feminism: Men and women are equal, and that is that.
Racism: See "Intolerance"
Honour: Dishonor brings shame, although obligations to the many frequently trump obligations to the few.
Chivalry: While we never had knights and such, the idea of "be good to people" is still around.
Social Darwinism: While the people feel that the bourgeois should sink to the bottom, the rest of society acts as one, with individual strengths folded together to form the strength of the collective.
Religion: See "Theocracy"
Spirituality: See "Religion"
Altruism: A virtue.
Selfishness: A sin.
Friendship: Alle Menschen werden Brüder, eventually.
Magic: Almost all are skeptical that magic exists.

(Note: By "Popular", We are asking what is the most popular form/genre/style in your nation. )

Orchestral Music: Popular
Jazz & Swing Music: Poplular
Ballet: Somewhat Popular
Theatre: It has fallen out of practice.
Opera Not as popular as it was.
Popular Sports: Baseball, Football, Gladiatorial games, Horse racing
Gladiatorial Combat: This is a national sport.

Modern Art: It is seen as formless and without meaning to most.
Traditional Art: Popular by a wide margin.
Popular Fashion: Typical Beringian fashion is reminiscent of the American 1940's and 50's.
Popular Food: Soups and stews are most favored, followed by various pastas.

Section 2: Ethics

How does your society feel about the following issues?

Public Nudity: Public nudity is a fineable offense and subjects of the Empire are shunned by their local community when this act is undertaken.
Public Displays of Affection: Generally okay to a point.
Gambling: Accepted and in some cities widely practiced.
Alcohol: Consumption of alcohol is a daily act for many male subjects.
Drug Use: Due to extensive use of propaganda over the last few years the general populace has developed a strong hate for drug usage. Some subjects have even gone as far as to raid drug operations as vigilantes. They were, of course, promptly arrested.
Partying: Parties are something that most subjects partake in. Although you wouldn't find underage children partying with alcohol, loud music and whatnot.
Gun Ownership: Gun ownership, like most age restricted activities and rights, is permitted at the age of 17. It's considered a right of passage for a 17 year old boy to go out with his father and purchase a ivory gripped pistol.
Homosexuality: Homosexuality is one of the things propaganda has been used against. Whereas homosexuals were accepted in the 80's and early 90's, public oppinon of homosexuals quickly turned.
Transsexualism: Physiological transsexual babies are subsequently killed after birth unless the parent would keep the deformed child.
Pre-Marital Sex: It happens pretty occasionally.
Family: Family is a core tenant of Beringian society.
Marriage: Marriage is something a Beringian is expected to do.
Prostitution: Prostitution, just as homosexuality, was wiped out with propaganda.
Charity: Rarely happens. It's not a problem the government wishes to correct either.
Competition: It raises the strong and destroys the weak.
Cooperation: It's seen as the means of the optimal means of getting things done in some cases. In other cases it tears down the strong to aid the weak.
Privacy: If this right is abused by a subject the Empire will not hesitate to take it away.
Intolerance: Okay to a point where things start to get unruly.
Feminism: Not something men take too kindly to.
Racism: Most subjects are inherently racist and xenophobic. Private communities, which are quite common, often exclude certain races from residence.
Honor: Honor is occasionally twisted in order to suit a subjects needs.
Chivalry: Men partake in it all too commonly.
Social Darwinism: It's applied to business and the economic side of things.
Religion: Religion isn't as widely practiced as it is in other nations but from polling we have found out 62% of the Empire's subjects practice a religion.
Spirituality: As a whole, and oddly enough, subjects are tolerant of other beliefs as long as they're not forced or excessively practiced.
Altruism: Not something the governing bodies of the Empire partake in.
Selfishness: It's mostly circumstantial. Expect a Beringian to chose a close friend over a group of strangers.
Friendship: This goes along with family.
Magic: Regarded as bullshit used to entertain children.
Beringia is back!

Orchestral Music: Very popular.
Jazz & Swing Music: Fairly popular.
Popular Dance: Most people do not enjoy dancing.
Ballet: Not popular at all.
Theatre: Relatively quite popular.(Though obsolete in comparison, it is much cheaper than the cinema.)
Opera About 86% as popular as Theatre.
Popular Sports: Tennis, Cycling, Archery, Basketball.
Gladiatorial Combat: What brutish, vile, behaviour. Blood sports and other dangerous and/or cruel sports are illegal.
Popular Art: New Realism, Realism, Surrealism, impressionism. In-fact, most are popular.
Modern Art: Very Popular
Traditional Art: Very Popular
Popular Fashion: Our people see fashion as frivolous. No one bothers keeping up with fashion. Laboratory coats (Often white or red) seem reasonably popular. Apart from that, t-shirts. ((Our government doesn't really care, hence does not collect information on this, so to answer this I just looked out the window and gave you what I saw.))
Popular Food: What would be Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Italian.

Section 2: Ethics

How does your society feel about the following issues?

Public Nudity: Legal, though not common. If one does not want to wear clothes, one does not have to. Though it is frowned upon in certain places, and by some people.
Public Displays of Affection: Depends how far one goes with it. Hugs, and hand holding; sure. Public mating; please not anywhere inappropriate.
Gambling: Unfortunately, illegal. We cannot trust our people to not get addicted. 'Addictees' can ruin their lives in such establishments, which is very unfortunate.
Alcohol: Consumption of alcohol is illegal, unless one receives it on medical prescription.
Drug Use: If necessary for medical reasons, go right ahead. If you enjoy taking your medicine, well then good for you. If you are caught giving your drugs to those without medical prescription, you may be put on trial and severely punished.
Partying: Go right ahead, enjoy ones life. If you choose to do so by partying, we see no reason why not to allow you to do so.
Gun Ownership: Guns are banned, except for our police (0ur police are our military. Those that would be in the military are just very high ranking police. We have no military like other countries have a military, because we aren't imperialists with secret plans of conquest.)
Homosexuality: Neutral, though most people here are hetero or bi.
Transsexualism: Does not exist, because no behaviour is male or female. Only ones body has gender, not ones behaviour. One may behave how one wants. If one is male, but enjoys to wear make-up and wear dresses, one is free to do so.
Pre-Marital Sex: Few people get married here at all.
Family: Important, but no more so than your other comrades.
Marriage: This obsolete religious ritual is virtually unknown in our country.
Prostitution: Legal, but very highly regulation. Frowned upon by most in our society.
Charity: Wonderful.
Competition: Not too much. 'Healthy competition' can help progress. Too much competition can slow it down.
Cooperation: One of the most cherished things in our society.
Privacy: Good.
Intolerance: Bad.
Feminism: Both genders are equal, but different. Neither is superior.
Racism: Very bad. One should not discriminate race. There is simply no reason. In fact, it is harmful as it decreases the gene pool which can harm the evolution of our species.
Honour: Good, one should seek to possess it, but not obsess over it.
Chivalry: Knighthood has been abolished.
Social Darwinism: Neutral.
Religion: Nonsense.
Spirituality: Nonsense.
Altruism: Good.
Selfishness: Bad.
Friendship: Friends are the family you have chosen for yourself.
Magic: Doesn't exist.

In short, we don't think much of you.

Popular Music: Symphonic music (Symphonic Rock; Symphonic Metal; etc.) and classical. (Also music similar to the original Tetris theme and the original Mario theme.)
Orchestral Music: Very popular.

Opera About 86% as popular as Theatre.

Cooperation: One of the most cherished things in our society.
Privacy: Good.
Intolerance: Bad.
Feminism: Both genders are equal, but different. Neither is superior.
Racism: Very bad. One should not discriminate race. There is simply no reason. In fact, it is harmful as it decreases the gene pool which can harm the evolution of our species.
Honour: Good, one should seek to possess it, but not obsess over it.
Chivalry: Knighthood has been abolished.
Social Darwinism: Neutral.
Religion: Nonsense.
Spirituality: Nonsense.
Altruism: Good.
Selfishness: Bad.
Friendship: Friends are the family you have chosen for yourself.
Magic: Doesn't exist.

General Information

Nation Title: The Free Land of New Unsociety
Form of Government:Direct-democratic anarcho-communist confederation.
National Leader(s):No authority figures-though Jake Wilbur(revolution hero) is seen by many as a leading figure.
Political Orientation:Libertarian/direct democracy.
Economic Orientation:Communist(classless society).

Politics and Governance:
What are is your nation's predominant view on the following; be as detailed as you please but a simple agree/disagree is adequate. (If you would, please answer directly after or below the bold brackets in normal font)

Section 1. Political Philosophy:

Democracy:

Representative Democracy: Oligarchy,with rotating/selected rulers,but still oligarchy.
No-one must be forced to surrender his/her rights to decision-making to anyone, even if that one comes from a variety of given choices.

Direct Democracy:What we apply. The only true form of democracy. However, should only apply on a per-issue basis and only persons affected by an issue have the right to decide-else it becomes tyranny of the majority.

Monarchy: Oligarchy with one oligarch-authoritarian,despicable.

Absolute: Well,at least it's clear who is the Peoples' enemy...
Constitutional: The above,with "constitutional" wrapping.

Oligarchy: Monarchy with a few monarchs instead of one-same as monarchy.

Republicanism: Like representative "democracy",with more bureaucracy and chances of corruption.

Dictatorship/Totalitarianism: Same as monarchy.

Fascism:Same as oligarchy,dictatorship,monarchy-though its economic theory is valued by some as functioning, historical examples show its dependence on external aggression(leading to extreme imperialism and thus external reaction and multiple-enemy alliances against nation) thus invalidating even that argument.

Anarchism:

Anarcho-Capitalism: A noble idea in theory,a contradiction in practice-sheep can't have freedom in the presence of wolves.

Anarcho-Mutualism:Good in theory, functional in action, good as an intermediate stage to anarcho-communism(though not preferable for the long term,as it tends to lead to accumulation of wealth and thus power).

Anarcho-Communism:The best system known so far.Equality combined with freedom, direct democracy, decentralization and orthological management of production combined with true and justified involvement of all with politics and economy.Breeds interest in labor rather than laziness,as the workers realize the factory is as their home.Eliminates crime(eliminating its causes) and anti-social behavior(same reason).Absence of power inequality leads to financial and political stability.

Socialist Vanguard State: Failed in history, fails in practice,as no minority wielding power can avoid becoming corrupt-losing sight of its original objective.Only the working class can decide for the working class.

Theocracy: Same as oligarchy, plus the stupidity/irrationality of entrusting a random person(s) only because they were "priviledged by god"-at least crony capitalism has some logic in that the best mobsters(more able) are ruling.

Secularism: An absolute tenet of society.Everyone is entitled to his/her religious beliefs, but politics must have nothing to do with that.

Authoritarianism: Despicable-all affected by an issue must have equal say on the issue.

Libertarianism: Must be combined with general and total equality, else it tends to extinguish itself.

Conservatism: The opposite of progressivism.

Progressivism: Depends on what one means by that-if taken as regarding social freedoms,it must be held to the absolute.

Militarism: Having a strong military is necessary-but not having an oppressive one.Actually the latter is an even worse danger for a freedom-loving society than a foreign invasion.Best to have(as we) a militia of all able and willing citizens with a few select special units(but such that the rest can easily stop them if need be) with all willing trained and bearing arms.Every neighborhood having its IFV,so to speak.Strategic military decisions taken by general assemblies(there there is enough time).Tactical ones(as in in a battle) by elected and immediately recallable through vote-against officers.

Pacifism: Attack only in self-defence,including of freedom of us and our fellow men-as such,we uphold and assist and provoke the Global Revolution. When tyranny will cease to exist, peace can exist.

Nationalism: Irrational-what defines a "nation" anyway?

Internationalism: A logical outcome of the irrationality of nationalism and the evolutionary advantage of collaboration on a global scale.

Individualism: If referring to absolute right to own opinion,self-definition and absolute freedom to matters not affecting non-consenting others, agreed 100%.If referring to the "right" to oppress others-either directly or indirectly through exploitation of their weak position(ie economic) then there is no such "right".

Collectivism:If referring to all being equal and having equal say to matters affecting them, agreed 100%.If referring to people being ants, 100% against-all are equal but different.

Section 2. Economic Philosophy:

Capitalism: A huge arena where the strong are "free" to oppress and the weak forced to suffer.
A false idea of freedom."Negative freedom".

Communism:Classless society-all are equal,and NO STATE.Else it isn't communism.Voluntary associations of equals.

Socialism:If referring to a broad context of systems promoting social equality/solidarity,100% agreed. If referring to the intermediate marxist stage before communism, see vanguard party opinions above.

Free Market/Laissez-Faire Economics:NOT THE SAME AS CAPITALISM.Mutualism can mean a "free market". Essentially though conflict(instead of cooperation) which defines "free market" means survival of the fittest man/group,thus ceases being "free".

Mixed Market/Third Way Economics:
Could work,if in a libertarian setting(as to not have corruption of regulatory means seeping in-as in social "democracy").

Centrally Planned/Controlled Economics:By a minority?Corruption,"state capitalism",class society. Also inefficient and very error-prone due to inherent complexity.Same in practice in the long term as monopoly capitalism.By all(decentralized/grassroots control)? The only way to have a non-corruptible and efficient,self-correcting system.

Gift Economics:The best system-though it takes a great deal of solidarity and consciousness. The final target to strive for-though bartering/vouchers could be good as an intermediate.

Traditional/Primitive Economics:Worked...for their time.

Agrarianism: All need food-and all need industry.Agriculture, and industry, both have their place.

Corporatism:Essentially a collaboration between monopolies and the state-authoritarian mix, brewing trouble for the underprivileged.

Welfarism:We are pro-welfare(as in a short-term "pain reliever" for the underprivileged),but believe that what is needed is the cure(redistribution of the MEANS of production, not the production,as the people can be self-sufficient and not rely on the capitalists or the "nanny-state").

Syndicalism (Trade Unionism):The best way to run productive units,by the workers themselves.Unions in the framework of today's system are the best way to defend and promote the interests of the lower classes against the (cartels and political connections and thus "unionized" themselves) ruling class and can be perhaps the main catalyst of a revolutionary change of system. In a libertarian socialist society, they will have a much greater role than representing workers and running factories(as they should have that expanded role today as well). As in promoting class-consciousness and enlightening the lower classes.

Globalization:
Free Trade: Global free movement of capital is the lifeblood of the capitalist system.Makes local control of an economy much more difficult, thus greatly helps and enables capitalist global financial control through finance. As such,we are against it,as also against the system that needs it.

Fair Trade: Good for helping alleviate the problems caused by "free" trade.

Protectionism: Same with fair trade.

Feudalism:Slavery-driven system, worse than capitalism,as the workers/lower classes were directly oppressed, rather than indirectly.Led to capitalism, which is an improvement but not much better in practice.

Environmentalism:If the planet goes to hell,we go to hell.It is not in our interest to not be environmentalists. And it is also immoral to not be,as we are a part of nature and not its overlords.

Consumerism:Consume what is needed to live in dignity and have a good life-but not think this is an ideal in itself.Capitalism promotes the "consumerist dream" -until the next crisis strikes...

Racism:Irrational, baseless, based on metaphysical crap, excuse for dividing the oppressed.

Multiculturalism:Various cultures? We say each person has his/her own culture(one step further, you may say).

Section 3: Social Policy & Freedoms
What is the Legal Status of the Following Social Issues? (Note: Elaboration on the social attitudes toward any these issues them can be found in the second questionnaire)

Private Property: For consumption and private items(TV,car, house etc)->accepted and protected.
Means of production(factories,farms,arable land etc) -> shared equally,and community-managed.

Freedom of Speech:Absolute-other than threats.
Freedom of Association:Absolute-actions of groups count, not groups themselves.
Gun Ownership: All can have firearms-but possession of heavy military hardware is managed by the communities.
Abortion:Legal until 5 months OR in cases of rape etc OR in risky situations.
Gay Marriage: Totally free.
Alcohol:Totally free.
Tobacco:Totally free.
Drugs:Totally free.

General Information

Nation Title: Kingdom of Beringovia
Form of Government: Constituional Monarchy
National Leader(s): His Royal Highness Tsar Nickolai; Prime Minister Olga Andropova
Political Orientation: Centrist
Economic Orientation: Free market

Politics and Governance:What are is your nation's predominant view on the following; be as detailed as you please but a simple agree/disagree is adequate. (If you would, please answer directly after or below the bold brackets in normal font)

Section 1. Political Philosophy:

Democracy: Since the end of World War II the nations government has been founded on democratic principles, and the large majority of people look favorably on democracy.

Representative Democracy: Beringovia is a representative democracy.

Direct Democracy: Sometimes employed at the local level.

Monarchy: Beringovia is a Monarchy.

Absolute: Not looked favorably upon
Constitutional: We are one. The Tsars powers are severly circumscribed, though he is not a mere figurehead.

Oligarchy: Not looked favorably upon.
Republicanism: Although a Monarchy, Beringovia respects the traditions of countries which have a republican heritage. Though the monarchy is popular, a minority of Berinovians favor the establishment of a republic.
Dictatorship/Totalitarianism: Looked upon very unfavorably.
Fascism: Looked upon very unfavorably.
Anarchism: Looked upon very unfavorably, except by certain overly-idealistic college freshmen.

Anarcho-Capitalism: The "Anarcho" part at least is looked upon unfavorably.
Anarcho-Mutualism: Looked upon very unfavorably.
Anarcho-Communism: All forms of communism looked upon very unfavorably, since Beringovia was founded as a refuge for opponents of the Bolseviks.

Socialist Vanguard State: Looked upon very unfavorably.
Theocracy: Generaly looked upon unfavorably. Though the Orthodox Church is the official religion of the Royal court, the rest of the state is run on basically secular terms.
Secularism: Generaly looked upon favorably, as long as it isn't perceived as hostle to religion.
Authoritarianism: Looked upon unfavorably.
Libertarianism: Looked upon favorably by a certain segment of the population, though a majority would say that libertarians put too much emphasis on limited government.
Conservatism: American-style conservatism (i.e. social conservatism combined with economic liberalism) is generaly looked upon favorably.
Progressivism: Considered a respectable political position, but not one held by the majority.
Militarism: Most Beringovian's are against militarism in principle, but recognize that a strong military may be necessary in the world we live in.
Pacifism: Generally perceived as being an overly idealistic and unrealistic position. There is a strong pacifist strain among certain religious minorities, and these are generally tolerated.
Nationalism: Perceived positively to the extent that it is not disrepectful of other nations. Beringovians also respect the right of citizens of other countiries to be proud of their nations.
Internationalism: Depending upon how it is defined it can be perceived positively, as with nations cooperating to meet common problems, or negatively, as a threat to national soverignty.
Individualism: Generally perceived positively. Beringovians tend to perceive themselves as very individualistic, though this has to be balanced against the common good.
Collectivism: See above. Forced collectivism, at least, is perceived negatively.

Section 2. Economic Philosophy:

Capitalism: Perceived positively, if only because it is perceived as the opposite of communism.
Communism: Anti-communism is deeply rooted in Beringovia's national identity because it was founded as a refuge for White Russians and other anti-bolsheviks following the Russian revolution. However, since the end of the cold war it has become fashionable to keep a few communists around as a source of amusement.
Socialism: Generally viewed negatively
Free Market/Laissez-Faire Economics: Free market economics are generally viewed positively, but most Berinogians recognize that some degree of government involvement in the economy is necessary.
Mixed Market/Third Way Economics: Generally viewed negatively as "socialism lite," but not as negatively as full-blown socialism.
Centrally Planned/Controlled Economics: Generally viewed very negatively.
Gift Economics: Generally viewed as not a realistic basis for an economic system
Traditional/Primitive Economics: Some indiginous peoples practice traditional lifestyles, and their right to do so is generally respected.
Agrarianism: For the most part, the geography of Beringovia is not well suited to widespread agriculture. However, there is a strong agricultural sector, centered on family farms in the south-central region of the country.
Corporatism: Viewed positively, is long as it isn't perceived as a threat to personal freedom.
Welfarism: Beringovians consider themselves rugged individualists and generally take a dim view of public welfare, though most recognize that some sort of social saftey net is necessary.
Syndicalism (Trade Unionism): Generally viewed negatively due to the infiltration of communists into trade unions early in Beringovia's history
Globalization: Generally viewed very positively.
Free Trade: Viewed positively. Beringovias economy relies heavily on the export of commodities, and we want to maintain markets to sell our products.
Fair Trade: Most Beringovians agree with fair trade in principle, in spite of the fact that its strongest supporters as are perceived as overly idealistic long-haired hippies.
Protectionism: Viewed negatively. Beringovia has relatively few domestic manufacuring industries to protect anyway.
Feudalism: Viewed as a historical anachronism by those who bother to think of it at all
Environmentalism: Most Beringovians believe that we must strike a balance between protection of the natural environment, and exploitation of our enormous natural resources for economic development. Just where that balance should be struck is currently a defining feature of Beringovian politics.
Consumerism: Most Beringovian's don't want to see themselves as crash consumerists, though to many outsiders that is what they are.
Racism: Currently viewed very negatively, though there is an unfortunate history of mistreatment of the countries indiginous population, and even now there are occasional allegations of discrimination.
Multiculturalism: Generally viewed positively. During the last couple of decades most Beringovians have embraced the idea that multiculturalism is a defining national characteristic.

Section 3: Social Policy & Freedoms: What is the Legal Status of the Following Social Issues? (Note: Elaboration on the social attitudes toward any these issues them can be found in the second questionnaire)

Private Property: protected under the law
Freedom of Speech: guaranteed by the constitution
Freedom of Association: guaranteed by the constitution
Gun Ownership: guaranteed by the constition "for normal sporting and self defense purposes." Possession by minors and convicted criminals is restricted.
Abortion: Technically illegal except in case of rape, incest or "medical necessessity." In practice the "medical necessity" exception is very broadly defined, and doctors are virtually never prosecuted for illegally certifying an abortion as "medically necessary."
Gay Marriage: Not legally recognized.
Alcohol: Drinking age is 18. Must be 21 to buy hard liquor for off-premisis consumption. Hard liquor is taxed and regulated much more severly then beer or wine. Local communities may ban the sale or even possession of alcohol within their borders. Virtually all communities which have done so have a predominantly indiginous population.
Tobacco: Legal but officially discouraged. Not Commonly used except by foreigners.
Drugs: Except for alcohol, tobacco and caffene recreational drugs are generally illegal.

Cannabis: Illegal
"Soft Drugs": Illegal
"Hard Drugs": Illegal

Censorship: The constitution prohibits government censorship except "to protect the moral welfare of minors." Thus criticism of the government is allowed, but depictions of sex and violence in the media is restricted.
Prostitution: Illegal. A recent change in public policy is to treat prostitutes as victims rather than criminals.
Slavery: Has never existed in Beringovia since it was founded as a nation, though historically native peoples were sometimes treated as slaves during the colonial period. The government is currently cracking down on all forms of human trafficking.
Age Of Consent: 16. Persons may not be prosecuted for statutory rape of an underage person if they come within the "close-in-age" exception. The close-in-age exception is 60 months if the underaged person is 14 or 15 years olds, 48 months if 12 or 13 years old, or 36 months for if under the age of 12. If the older party does not come within the close-in-age exception he can be charged with statory rape even if he is himself below the age of consent. Thus, a 15-year old can be charged with the statory rape of an 11-year old.
Freedom of Religion/Conscience: Freedom of religion and conscience is guaranteed by the Constituion. The only exception is that the Tsar, and any person in line to suceed to the throne, must be a member of the Orthodox Church.

Section 1: Arts & Society: What is your nations prominent views regarding the following: (Answer to your best ability. If you don't feel like writing much, feel free to simply write; popular/unpopular but anything you'd like to add, even pictures or musical links provided they are spoilered is welcome.)

How Does Your Nation View and Treat?

Artists: Generally well respected
Actors: Generally well respected, although Hollywood actors are often steriotyped as egotistical, pompious and susceptable to crackpot religious and political movements.
Musicians: Generally well respected, though successful popular musicians are sometimes subject to the same steriotype as Hollywood actors.
Clowns: Popular with children
Writers: Generally well respected
Intellectuals: Generally well respected, especially those who are perceived as not leaning too far to the left in their political views
Scientists: Generally well respected
Entrepreneurs: Generally very well respected
Industrialists: Generally well respected
Missionaries & Priests: Somewhat mixed. On the one hand historical missionaries are sometimes steriotyped as being heavy handed towars native peoples and disrespecting their culture. On the other hand it is perceived that they often advocated for the native peoples and protested the mistreatment of them. It is also well known that missions usually were the first to provide education and social services to the natives.
Foreigners: Generally well liked, especially American's and Canadians.

What Is Popular In Your Nation?(Note: By "Popular", We are asking what is the most popular form/genre/style in your nation. )

Popular Music: Vintage 80s American rock and roll is very popular
Orchestral Music: Russian composers are popular
Jazz & Swing Music: Somewhat popular, especially among urban intellectuals
Popular Dance: Somewhat popular
Ballet: Very popular. Considered a positive reflection of Beringovia's Russian heritage
Theatre: Somewhat popular, particularly 19th century Russian playwrites, or anything by Shakespeare

Gladiatorial Combat: Boxing and MMA enjoy a modest following
Popular Art: Somewhat popular
Modern Art: Somewhat popular
Traditional Art: Traditional native arts and crafts have become very popular
Popular Fashion: Think Eddie Baeur
Popular Food: Traditionally very similar to Russian food, though in recent decades their have been American influences as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section 2: Ethics
How does your society feel about the following issues?

Public Nudity: Definately not acceptable. If you know what our climate is like you wouldn't want to walk around outdoors in the nude anyway ("buuurrrrr...")
Public Displays of Affection: Modest desplays of affection (holding hands, stealing a quick kiss) wouldn't merit a second glance. Making out on a park bench would likely be perceived as obnoxous, but probably wouldn't get you arrested. Having sex in a public place would get you arrested.
Gambling: Not an important part of Beringovian culture. Most Beringovians prefer to keep their money. Commercial gambling is illegal.
Alcohol: An important part of Beringovian culture, especially vodka. Unfortunately, so is chronic alcoholism, though there are signs that this is gradually improving. In recent decades there has been a gradual decrease in total alcohol consumption along with a move away from vodka and towards beer and wine, especially beer. In part this is due to government policies designed to discourage hard liquor consumption, and in part it is due to the growing influence of American culture. However, vodka consumption remains greater than other parts of North America. Among the indiginous population there is a tragic history of social problems caused by the sudden introduction by Russian settlers of strong liquor into cultures which had never become accustomed to it. For this reason alcohol is generally perceived very negatively within native communities.
Drug Use: Viewed very negatively.
Partying: Beringovian's love to party! Ever been to a Beringovian wedding?
Gun Ownership: In parts of rural Beringovia it would be unusual not to own a gun, if only to protect ones self against the wildlife. Even in urban areas it is relatively common, especially since hunting is a popular pastime. Keep in mind that Beringovia is a very large, sparsely populated country, with very few large cities.
Homosexuality: Traditionally viewed negatively. Attitudes are gradually becomeing more accepting, but most Beringovians would still be uncomfortable with viewing public displays of affection by gay couples even if they profess not to care what they do in the privacy of their own bedrooms.
Transsexualism: Regarded as weird
Pre-Marital Sex: Not considered socially acceptable, though most Beringovians are realistic enough to realize that it happens. For a Beringovian married couple, the first child can come at any time, after that they take nine months.
Family: Viewed as the rock-solid bedrock of Berinovian society.
Marriage: Veiwed very positivley, and as the only valid basis for a family.
Prostitution: Viewed very negatively
Charity: Viewed very positively
Competition: A certain degree of competition is considered healty for society, though you can have too much.
Cooperation: Considered healty. Beringovians believe that a healthy society maintains a balance between competition and cooperation, rather than falling entirely on one side or the other.
Privacy: Valued very highly
Intolerance: Generally viewed negatively, though there is still a great deal of intolerance towards what is perceived non-traditional lifestlyes.
Feminism: Most Beringovians support equal social and political rights for men and women, though radical feminism is often negatively perceived as denying the innate differences between men and women.
Racism: Generally viewed negatively
Honour: Generaly viewed positively. Beringovians like to believe that that they have a strong sense of national and personal honor.
Chivalry: Generally viewed positively
Social Darwinism: Generally viewed negatively
Religion: Generally viewed positiveily, and considered an important part of Beringovian culture
Spirituality: Generally viewed positively
Altruism: Generally viewed very positively
Selfishness: Generally viewed very negatively
Friendship: Generally viewed positively
Magic: Most Beringovians don't believe in magic

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do you think of the U S S C R ? I haven't read the factbook, but the fact that you seem fond of communist slogans and symbols is not a good sign.

General Information

Nation Title: The Democratic Syndicates of Threlizdun
Form of Government: Social Anarchy
National Leader(s): None
Political Orientation: Libertarian
Economic Orientation: Left

Politics and Governance:
What are is your nation's predominant view on the following; be as detailed as you please but a simple agree/disagree is adequate. (If you would, please answer directly after or below the bold brackets in normal font)

Section 1. Political Philosophy:

Democracy: Something that must be incorporated into any political system, whether direct or representative
Representative Democracy: Supportive, though not preffered
    Direct Democracy: Strongly Supportive
Monarchy: An odd tradition to us that we do not understand, though we accept it in some cases
Absolute: Nothing more than a dictatorship, and thus we are strongly opposed to it
Constitutional: Acceptable as long as it is free and democratic
Oligarchy: Against; such power should not be in the hands of so few
Republicanism: Democratic republics are fine, though a republic as defined by Plato, where the state holds great power, is not supported
Dictatorship/Totalitarianism: A horrendous practice that should never be practiced under any circumstance
Fascism: The most evil ideology in existence
Anarchism: Strongly supportive of most forms of anarchism
Anarcho-Capitalism: Supportive, as long as the rights of the workers are protected
Anarcho-Mutualism: Supportive, though not used here
Anarcho-Communism: Strongly supportive, though we believe participatory economics and syndicalism are needed to make it work
Socialist Vanguard State: A disgusting practice that only brings harm to the people
Theocracy: Opposed; religion has no place in legal matters
Secularism: Supportive on the grounds of the seperation of church and the legal and political system, though not to the extent of enforcing ahteism like some societies
Authoritarianism: Strongly opposed
Libertarianism: Strongly supportive
Conservatism: We oppose the enforcement of traditions for tradions' sake, though some traditions, such as a respect for freedom, should be protected
Progressivism: Times change, and we believe that anything that does not harm others should be accepted, so we see no reason not to adapt.
Militarism: Against
Pacifism: While we do have a military, it is tiny and purely defensive. We do not believe in invasions, finding diplomacy the prefarable alternative, though we will fight if we have no other alternative.
Nationalism: No nation is truly better than another, though our citizens do feel proud of their nation
Internationalism: Supportive
Individualism The individual and the collective are not always opposed philosophies. We have come to find that you can allw great personal freedom and the ability to choose your own destiny, while having your actions create positive effects on those around you. We have both great respect for the individual and the community, but although our economic system is more collectivist in nature, we generally support individualism more.
Collectivism: See above

Section 2. Economic Philosophy:

Capitalism: Fine, as long as it has elements to prevent abuse of workers or the planet
Communism: Supportive in the sense of a true communist society that lacks a state and is run entirely by the workers, though opposed to the state-run system calling itself such.
Socialism: We are generally oppossed to planned or state-run economies, though we are fine with some forms of market socialism.
Free Market/Laissez-Faire Economics: Generally we feel that these economies fail all systems aside from anarcho-capitalism, where we believe the increased pressure on corporations due to the lack of the state to blame for problems would lead to them realizing they need to care for their workers to prevent a riot.
Mixed Market/Third Way Economics: Generally acceptable
Centrally Planned/Controlled Economics: On a national level we believe it is doomed to fail in the long run, though at the community level we can understand it. We can see it working during times or emergency, and understand why it would be implemented then (think the US during the Great Depression and World War II), though generally we are opposed.
Gift Economics: We believe it needs other factors to work, though support the system and use it ourselves.
Traditional/Primitive Economics: It depends on the system, though it is typically too outdated to be used in first world countries.
Agrarianism: We have rural areas, though we have cities as well
Corporatism: It is a heavily state-influenced economy that often is highly focused on nationalism, militarism, and fascism, so it is opposed.
Welfarism: Supportive
Syndicalism (Trade Unionism): Strongly supportive; protecting the workers is actually far more important to us than economic equality is
Globalization: We are generally opposed to economic globablization due to its impact on the environment and exploitation of third world citizens, though we do believe nations should try to work together.
Free Trade: We believe some measures should be placed on trade, though not horribly extensive.
Fair Trade: See above
Protectionism: See above
Feudalism: Against. It was necessary to help humanity survive in the middle ages, but it is an oppressive and highly outdated system now.
Environmentalism: Supportive
Consumerism: Opposed
Racism: Strongly against
Multiculturalism: Threlizdun is a greatly diverse society with a high amount of cultural, religious, and ethnice diversity, so everyone is rather used to other cultures now.

Section 3: Social Policy & Freedoms
What is the Legal Status of the Following Social Issues? (Note: Elaboration on the social attitudes toward any these issues them can be found in the second questionnaire)

Private Property As long as you work to your maximum potential (Threlizdun is PMT, so technological advancements have reduced the need for lengthy labour periods), then you may have what you wish, and as such, it is protected by law.
Freedom of Speech: You are free to say whatever you please as long as it does not become repeated verbal abuse of another
Freedom of Association: Any nonviolent association (except in the case of sports or other consensual cases) may meet freely.
Gun Ownership: We have fairly loose laws on gun ownership. Criminals and mentally unfit individuals may not posess them and no one may posess high explosives, though that is about it.
Abortion: Legal and provided by universal healthcare
Gay Marriage: Any number of consenting adults of any gender or relation may marry
Alcohol: Legal at age 18
Tobacco: Legal at age 18, though rather uncommon
Drugs: All are legal at age 18, though social programs try to educate citizens about them, prevent its use, and rehabilitate those that need it
    Cannabis: Legal at age 18
"Soft Drugs": Legal at age 18
    "Hard Drugs":
Legal at age 18, though extremely rare
Censorship: As long as it is not directed abuse towards a single individual, you may say, do, or publish what you please
Prostitution: Impossible due to our economic model
Slavery: Outlawed
Age Of Consent: 14
Freedom of Religion/Conscience: Full religious freedom
Section 1: Arts & Society
What is your nations prominent views regarding the following: (Answer to your best ability. If you don't feel like writing much, feel free to simply write; popular/unpopular but anything you'd like to add, even pictures or musical links provided they are spoilered is welcome.)

How Does Your Nation View and Treat?

Artists: Creating art of some form or another is more or less considered a duty by most Threlizdunians. Art is highly prized in our society, and it is rare to find a Threlizdunian that does not practice some form of it.
Actors: Another respectable art
Musicians: Another respectable art
Clowns: Another respectable art
Writers: Another respectable art
Intellectuals: This term is rather meaningless to us. If by intellectuals, you mean intelligent individuals, then of course we respect them. If you mean arrogant individuals, then no.
Scientists: Science is highly respected, well staffed, and well-provided here.
Entrepreneurs: We have quite a lot of small businesses
Industrialists: They are viewed as exploiting the workers and the planet
Missionaries & Priests: Most religions in Threlizdun are highly liberal versions of their traditional faith that accept scientific explanations and are supportive of civil rights, so we view them as fine. Ones that are bigoted or dogmatic however would not recieve a very positive welcome.
Foreigners: We have long been known for a haven for refugees and other such individuals that need a new home. Threlizdun has always been this way for thousands of years. We actually don't even really have a majority ethnic group, with native Threlizdunians typically being mixed race, so foreigners and other ethnicities is just a day in the life in Threlizdun.

What Is Popular In Your Nation?
(Note: By "Popular", We are asking what is the most popular form/genre/style in your nation. Not what is popular in the real world)

Popular Music: Almost any genre of music can be found, though indie, folk, alternative, punk, amd rock are most popular.

Section 2: Ethics

How does your society feel about the following issues?

Public Nudity: Nudity has never been taboo here, so it's perfectly legal and seen as fine, though it is generally too cold to do anywhere but at beaches.
Public Displays of Affection: Recently these acts have become far less taboo, to the extent were people will not freak out or feel disgusted seeing people have sex in public.
Gambling: Impossible to do with currency due to our economy, though gambling favors still exists and is viewed as harmless fun unless it becomes out of control.
Alcohol: It's fine to drink, though to excess is certainly bad
Drug Use: Generally negative, though we respect their choice
Partying: It has been stated by some that our economy runs purely due to the people's understanding that this allows common, random parties to occur all the time. Quite a few Threlizdunian cities are essentially nothing but clubs, bars, theatres, and other such areas. Threlizdunians absolutely love to party.
Gun Ownership: Mostly for hunting or target practice, as basically no crime exists here. Few people even have locks on their doors, though ownership of guns is viewed as fine.
Homosexuality: Completely acceptable, as is any other orientation
Transsexualism: Completely accepted and if they desire, sex reasignment procedures may be provided by universal healthcare
Pre-Marital Sex: Accepted by the vast majority
Family: Any number of adults of any gender or relation with or without children counts as a family
Marriage: Any number of consenting adults of any gender or relation may marry
Prostitution: Impossible due to our economy
Charity: Our economy basically runs on it, so you can expect our society to value it
Competition: We certainly enjoy come healthy competition, though we don't like it once it harms others.
Cooperation: Great
Privacy: Everyone has the right to privacy
Intolerance: Intolerance of others of things such as race, nationality, religion, gender, or other such things is foolish and crule, though intolerance of violence, opression, or abuse are another story.
Feminism: Quite supportive
Racism: Strongly opposed
Honour: Be a good person, and you are an honourable individual
Chivalry: Help others, though we aren't certain about putting a creed like that on it
Social Darwinism: Horrible
Religion: Perfectly acceptable
Spirituality: Generally Threlizdunian people are quite spiritual
Altruism: Wonderful
Selfishness: Unfortanate
Friendship: Great
Magic: Almost everyone believes this is fake

What do you think of the USSCR? Most of the nations practice highly authoritarian forms of socialism, so generally we view it rather negative, though we respect some of the more democratic nations in the region.

This site stresses me out, so I rarely come on here anymore. I'll try to be civil and respectful towards those I'm debating on here. If you don't extend the same courtesy then I'll probably just ignore you.

If we've been friendly in the past and you want to keep in touch, shoot me a telegram
