Automobiles in your nation

Postby Threlizdun » Wed Jun 29, 2011 11:58 am

Private automobiles have become an essential in most modern societes. Western civilizations can barely imagine life without them. However, other societies may place less ephasis on this mode of transportation, with some relying primarily on public transportation, and others using means such as bikes, walking, or whatever best suits the area. Recently some concern has arrisen about there usage due to environmental and safety concerns, though the necessity of them in some places has prevented much change. How are automobiles regarded within your nation?

Automobiles in your nation

Postby Parhe » Wed Jun 29, 2011 5:29 pm

Automobiles
Are automobiles legal in your nation?
Yes
If so, how common is there usage?
Every person over age 15 has a licensed and 75% of people with a license owns a car
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
People must have a license, though insurance is optional, and the cars must be electric. There are too many driving laws to list, similar to that of South Korea.
How does the the overall society view them?
Society is very open to vehicles since the law requiring them to be electric, and since all electricity is gained through nuclear plants.
Public Transportation
Does your nation have a public transportation system?
Yes
If so, how extensive is it, or how common is its use?
Very common. Buses connect cities with a population of at least ten thousand throughout the country.
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
Only to meet regulations regarding safety and hygiene
How does your overall society view them?
Viewed favorably, though private automobiles are preferred for short distances.
AlternativeTransportation
How common is the use of alternative transportation (bikes, walking, jogging, boating, etc.) within your nation?
Somewhat common
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
Bikes and the like must be done on bike lanes if provided, or on the streets if absent. People may only move walk and the like on sidewalks or the sides of streets if absent, and can only cross roads in most cases on crosswalks. People can only boat on public or states bodies of marine or freshwater water.
How does you overall society view them?
People often do not use alternate transportation to get around except for boating, but are tolerated

Automobiles
Are automobiles legal in your nation?
- Yes...
If so, how common is there usage?
- Only 5% of Tsvarchivans own a car, so "not common in the slightest" is accurate.
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
- You have to be certified to drive the class of vehicle you're operating.
How does the the overall society view them?
- They think they're useless, expensive, inconvenient and dirty.
Public Transportation
Does your nation have a public transportation system?
- Why yes, we do...
If so, how extensive is it, or how common is its use?
- There are over 117,000 train stations in Tsvarchi operating 24 hour service (except in the month of June when it is offline). Buses operate between 4:00 in the morning to 1:00 in the morning (22 hours a day), and taxis run 24 hours. 95% of the population ones at least one form of public transportation a day.
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
- Fares must be paid.
How does your overall society view them?
- As a convenient, cheap, and comfortable mode of transportation which serves the needs of the people at large to transport them to various locations nationwide.
Alternative Transportation
How common is the use of alternative transportation (bikes, walking, jogging, boating, etc.) within your nation?
- The average Tsvarchivan walks 9 miles per day, and cycling is also a popular option. Tsvarchivans will often use a combination of alternative and public modes of transportation to get to and from where they need to go. Ferries are a common mode of transport to get to and from coastal locations. Flying is also a popular option since the country is quite small, short haul flights are quick with the utilization of supersonic jets, and many flights can be had for cheap now a days.
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
- Cyclists must remain on the street in specially marked bicycle paths. Airplane passengers must be screened before boarding. Ferry riders must purchase a fare before boarding.
How does you overall society view them?
- As excellent alternative ways to get where one is going while forgoing the crowded public transportation system and the slow congested roadways.

Automobiles
Are automobiles legal in your nation? No!
If so, how common is there usage?
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any? All things that look like they may be Autobots must be deactivated and delivered to the nearest foundry ASAP!
How does the the overall society view them? Since it's hard to tell a regular car from an Autobot until it's already too late, they're all seen as though they ARE Autobots, for our own safety and national security.

We also think crawling around on the ground in any sort of wheeled or tracked vehicle is for wimps and those with severe mechanical problems.

Public Transportation
Does your nation have a public transportation system? No, the logistics of mass transport for Decepticons would be horrendous!
If so, how extensive is it, or how common is its use?
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
How does your overall society view them? Unfeasible; can you imagine how big you'd have to build a bus to fit 50, 100-ft-tall Decepticons onto it?! Passenger planes would be even worse. We couldn't build a runway big enough to land something that huge on Cybertron; there isn't enough room! That doesn't even get into the planet-panel reinforcement that'd be needed to withstand the weight.

Alternative Transportation
How common is the use of alternative transportation (bikes, walking, jogging, boating, etc.) within your nation? EXTREMELY common. We transform into planes and fly almost everywhere!!
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any? No true laws, but common sense dictates that you won't want to bump into anyone at 10,000 feet up, and you'll want to obey the traffic signals for landing and takeoff. The threat of crashing to one's doom tends to make it so government regulation isn't needed.

Those who would rather not use their common sense while in the air will find that others, who are not keen to be bashed into or landed on, will blast them if they feel threatened by their flying behavior. This can take the form of a warning blast, or in the case of a do-or-die situation, a full-powered blast of energy that will turn the oncoming jet into harmless shrapnel.

How does you overall society view them? Flying under one's own power is viewed extremely well. It's undoubtedly cool, and we think it's fun too. It's also considered to be very useful, and it's definitely faster than most if not all other suborbital means of transportation. When combined with transformation, it is - as far as we know - a uniquely Decepticon trait. This gives the practice an underlying air of national and cultural pride.

Automobiles
Are automobiles legal in your nation?
Yes, usage of automobiles and other motor vehicles is legal in our nation.
If so, how common is there usage?
Usage of automobiles for transportation is quite common.
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
Automobiles may not be used in zoned metropolis districts. To enter such districts, one must park their car in a designated spot outside the district and then use public transport, to prevent congestion and traffic. Other than that, basic traffic laws (obeying signs, signalling, obeying speed limits) are also in effect.
How does the the overall society view them?
Automobiles are viewed as the primary source of transportation as well as a way to show wealth. As such, the auto industry in Xanicea is thriving quite well, although many companies have begun creating hybrid, electric, and hydrogen-based cars to cater to the "green wave" spreading through Xanicea.

Public Transportation
Does your nation have a public transportation system?
Yes, our nation has a fully-fledged metro train and bus system.
If so, how extensive is it, or how common is its use?
The metro train and bus system is quite extensive and many larger metropolises restrict or ban the use of private vehicles, making public transport quite important in those areas. In areas where cars are allowed, public transport is still quite common.
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
Public transport is free for soldiers, but civilians and tourists must pay for passes to access public transport (seasonal/monthly/yearly passes are available). Weaponry (except in the case of police or soldiers) must be kept in special compartments if it is carried on public transport. Smoking, drinking, and eating is not allowed except during the morning (12AM - 10AM) and at night (6PM - 12AM).
How does your overall society view them?
Public transport is encouraged as a way to relieve congestion and preserve our nation's environment, and those who use public transport are often met with approval from other citizens.

Alternative Transportation
How common is the use of alternative transportation (bikes, walking, jogging, boating, etc.) within your nation?
Alternative transport is quite common, though not as extensive as public transportation and automobiles.
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
As long as proper safety is taken, there are no restrictions on alternative transportation. Special highway lanes for bikes and waterways for boats are to be used, and anyone caught on main freeways is apt to be hit by cars or reprimanded by the highway patrol.
How does you overall society view them?
Society views alternative transportation as a great way to relax as well as a way to avoid traffic congestion and save money. It is widely accepted by many people.

with no paved roads and no fueling/recharging stations for road vehicles, the private passenger automobile exists only as a museum curiosity and the hobby of a few eccentrics. they are neither manufactured in cameroi, nor are they lawful to import in wholesale quantities (which there would be no point in doing anyway). as with most harmful things, we have no policy of banning them entirely, just rather one of total nonsupport. likewise, anyone CAN have anything they have the skill and resources to build themselves. but again the only roads for them are a few closed circuits built by auto-machinist hobbyist clubs.

the closest thing to a car as such that you will likely find in cameroi, is a kind of artificial intelligence riding mini-agri/construction/mining machine (think intelligent lawn mower/garden tractor) called a masterbot, which is directed by psionic linkage. these are not used primarily for transportation except in extremely low population density wilderness areas. they are too small to provide inclosure for the rider. the are small enough to drive or be walked through ordinary doorways and thus to meet and pass one another as well as people on foot on pedestrian walkways. they are only JUST big enough to ride on at all.

any place you will find even a couple of dozen cameroi living within a half a hex of each other, you will find them served by something that runs on some sort of rails instead. and whether on rails or crawling through the underbrush, if its mechanical and moves under its own power, you will find it propelled by stored or solar energy or some combination of the two. with only the rare exception being one offs, built by hobby machinists.

public transportation IS abundant, ubiquitous, and more often then not, completely free. its form factor is scalled to demand, so in the relatively rural setting most cameroi prefer, it is often only just big enough to ride inside of, and sometimes only to ride on. in more populated places, it is of course, scaled larger accordingly.

rider powered vehicles and beasts of burden may also, depending on locale, and local culture, exist. public small rail multiple unit trains are by far however, the most popular and abundant transportation form.

there are abundant illustrations of this concept on my fur affinity page: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/themnax/

Yes. What sort of tyrant outlaws vehicles?
If so, how common is there usage?
Most families have two or more vehicles.
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
Proper certification and registration on the drivers part, standard road rules and regulations that drivers and travelers in general must follow in order to use roadways, as well as other laws.
How does the the overall society view them?
Positively.

Public Transportation

Yes.
If so, how extensive is it, or how common is its use?
Inner-city areas such as Lower Paradise Heights and Midtown Nashville have public transportation stops every few blocks or so. They're used extensively.
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
Safety regulations mostly.
How does your overall society view them?
Positively.

AlternativeTransportation
How common is the use of alternative transportation (bikes, walking, jogging, boating, etc.) within your nation?
It's common where it's appropriate. You wouldn't find a person biking in Vanderton or Divum City with three foot snow drifts.
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any?
None except for boating, aerial vehicles, and biking certification and registration.
How does you overall society view them?
Positively yet cumbersome at times. Such as bike riders riding in Lower Paradise Heights.

Are automobiles legal in your nation? Yes, but petroleum and other fossil fuels are outlawed
If so, how common is there usage? Relatively rare, as public transportation is cheaper, easier, faster, and more accessible
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any? No petroleum combustion; must be licensed for ground vehicle operation to drive
How does the the overall society view them? Negatively, as they are generally pointless.

Public Transportation

If so, how extensive is it, or how common is its use? It's the primary form of long-distance transportation in YellowApple, and serves all YellowApplan cities and settlements

How does your overall society view them? Positively

Automobiles
Are automobiles legal in your nation? Yes
If so, how common is there usage? Not very common, they are mostly used by the wealthy (who can afford private cars) and by the public service
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any? There are road and driving laws which drivers must abide by, and one must have a driver's licence to drive a vehicle
How does the the overall society view them? Convenient but often unwieldy and expensive, a lot of people just regard them as an unnecessary modern luxury.

Public Transportation
Does your nation have a public transportation system? Yes
If so, how extensive is it, or how common is its use? There are railways over most of the country, and hansom cabs operate in the cities
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any? Fares must be paid, and safety regulations
How does your overall society view them? Cheap, convenient way of getting around without having to take your horse everywhere

AlternativeTransportation
How common is the use of alternative transportation (bikes, walking, jogging, boating, etc.) within your nation? Walking is most common, and as we have a predominantly rural and unurbanised population, most families own at least one horse for private transport over long distances, which are also used in farming.
What laws or regulations do you have on their use, if any? Not really, just don't run people down with your horse
How does you overall society view them? Horses are a good tried and tested means of transportation which can also be used in farming

Cars? Some family once drove a car into the country. Spent a day impressing the "natives" (they were really insufferably smug about it), then ran out of gas and found out that "distill your own" isn't really an option with petrol. I think the car ended up as an outhouse, and the family had to buy donkeys (at massively inflated prices from the pissed off "natives") to ride back home.

Public transportation exists in the largest cities in the form of rented coaches. Since most of our cities are small, though, they are not very common, more of a showoffy thing for special occasions when you don't want to appear at a function with your fancy clothes reeking of literal eau de toilette. Oh, and I guess the many riverboat and ocean-going passenger services count as public transport.

So, we mainly walk, ride or boat (although, in the mountains, oxen-driven cablecars are becoming increasingly popular for access to remote mines)
