Much of the historical Estate, which used to be vast tracts of land, has been rented out to the citizens and companies for use. The annual rents bring the Imperial Household an income of around 45 million aurons. Most of this money, however, is regarded as state property and deposited in National Treasury for "unexpected expenses".

The current Emperor himself makes do with a very meager sum of around 10 000 AU a year - only the average middle-class income. He believes he must lead the nation by example, making a spartan living and forsaking unnecessary luxury to save the extra money for the betterment of the nation instead. The savings his lifestyle has created are used in "His Imperial Majesty's Scholarship Fund", from which scholarships are issued to Terra Mariana's top students.

The Monarch and the Royal Family do not receive any payment at all; however, they own large investments in a number of successful business ventures, and as with the Prime Minister, their homes and transport are all owned and maintained by the state and they have expenses accounts which allow them to claim back money they spend in their duties.
