I think they mean that all citizens are female. There may be males, but they are clearly not afforded all the rights of citizenship and such. Nor do they seem common. The "all technically female" line reminds me of some varieties of insects wherein there are breeding females ("Queens"), non-breeding females ("workers/soldiers") and males, which are rare and their only purpose is to breed. But maybe I'm reading too much into it.

The general normalness of the place, until you look too closely, and notice the occasional Terror bird carrying off a Small child on a field trip, Land Parrots are the third most popular pet in the nation, the Romanticization of Bride kidnapping (still extant in a more formalized version) to an almost absurd degree, and people wearing little to no clothing at times, that everybody just sort of does their own thing, possibly with a fully functional tank or whatever, That, and the Hill Folk are as tribal as they've ever been, but still fairly accommodating and hospitable to outsiders, and mostly only feud with each other, if on a greatly reduced level. So no-one out of the Mountains really cares.

The treatment of women would surprise some observers from more progressive, or "barbarous, anarchic" nations. Essentially second-class citizens (the term citizen itself is somewhat taboo, in reference to both men and women, as the word 'subject' is preferred by the government), females of all social classes are barred from owning property in their own names, driving, voting in local elections (there are no national elections, of course), holding public office, joining the military. Upper class women are known to work their way around some of these restrictions, but are held by further restrictions. The Ladies of the Realm may not marry without the permission of their fathers (closest living male relatives), except in rare cases wherein the King has directly intervened.

Such things are defended by Verdisian traditionalists as necessary to defend women, a sort of extension of Chivalric virtues. Though some, including members of the Socialist Party and even notables of the Royal Court at Palatina, have expressed their distaste for such unequal treatment, at least a narrow majority of men seem to favor the system as it is. Very few, of course, bother to ask what women think about it.

Most Meridians are clones. I'm certain that would lead to confusion right there.

One interesting fact is that clones like to differentiate themselves from each other and be individuals, while the naturals like to wear the same clothes and have a group identity.

Also, clones tend to be more promiscuous than naturals, since they are infertile. Their sexual ethics tends to gravitate towards a different equilibrium point.

Other things would be, simplictic buildings, lack of statues? it is suprising to Valitsians when their kin do not worship 'enough', it is also taboo and annoying, to be overly happy, so worldwide joy would be a culture shock I suppose, they also dislike political relations with Non-Monarchies and generally dislike Republics and such.

Brightness, sunlight would also shock a Valitsian, lack of respect for history and elders, a lack of old and relevant objects, that sort of thing...

To be honest, alot of our culture would do that. Number one would be the fact that we're all vegetarian and that meat is impossible to get or bring into the country....
