Hippostania has a very basic universal health care system. But if you get anything more serious than a flu, you don't have an insurance and you aren't filthy rich - then you're screwed

Most people in Misthurst quite enjoy the current system, whereby instead of being legally required to pay in taxes to support a mediocre "universal healthcare" scheme/scam, it is possible here to have access to first rate or nearly first rate service when you need it, because the government takes the absolute minimum needed, and otherwise leaves your paycheck alone.

I have to ask. Where does the money to support it come from? If you say taxes, then I'm sorry, but it isn't free at all. That's one of the reasons we don't use it. The whole concept is flawed.

Each territory has a public health commission which runs among other things a Trama Center, Blood bank and Imunization clinics. Most routine medical practices are covered by insurance provided by Credit Unions. Tribes, Churches and other religious communities have special funds to take care of co-pays for the poor and for major illnesses i.e. cancer.

No. There is no universal healthcare in the Anarcho-Monarchist Realm of Distruzio. There are absolutely no social safety nets in the Realm either. The King maintains his position that it is not his position to ensure a life of a particular quality for any Distruzian. He maintains that his only concern is the protection of his subjects and the citizens of Distruzio from fear of physical harm from foreign nations. That being said, there are several City-States which do have a local version of universal healthcare. These City-States tend to be the more democratic gov'ts in the Realm. They also tend to have the largest debts, the most crime, and the highest taxes.

Which one assumes is formed by taxation. The concept of "free healthcare" is a myth used by governments whose wish is to keep the people fat, dumb and happy. And complacent.

Yes. It's called "everybody takes care of themselves". Pretty universal, I'd say.

A fair 40% is formed by taxes, but they go for other purposes. Our people aren't exactly fat, neither dumb. They could be happy, but I can never know.

Health Care

Postby The Guardians the 2nd Ammendmant » Fri Jun 17, 2011 1:48 am

The Guardians of the 2nd Ammendmant has full health care at no cost to it's public. But some restrictions are in place to avoid people taking advantage of this system such as a limit of 1 medical visit per month for any non emergency need per citizen.

Since we're democratic socialists, we propably would like universal health care. And the Leader does care a lot about the citizen's health. But since we don't have a government in the normal sense of the word, and no public sector at all, I'm guessing health care is private. Though it could also be that people just don't get sick in my nation, since almost all of them die of old age. Which then could be the result of our numerous campaigns against smoking and otherwise unhealthy living. Also, all people with deadly, contagious diseases were put in camps a long time ago, that might have helped.

Scary

Postby Azadi Raj » Fri Jun 17, 2011 3:03 am

Has anyone else noticed that the most devoted supporters of universal health care also support doctor asssisted suicide?

Lets see, the government is involved the medical profession, and the medical profession is involved in euthinasia. That means that the government is involved in euthinasia. It is not a lagre step from government involvement to government control.

Lets see here, we have a huge national debt, and unbanlance budget, and the one of the most expensive item on the budjet is universal health care. How will the government cut cost? Chemotherapy is deffinitly more expensive than alternative treatments such as Euthinasia.

Not in the sense of a huge government bureaucracy that wastes money providing "free universal" health care that ends up being neither free nor universal. With low taxes and little regulation, prices for care are ridiculously cheap and options for care are more numerous. Even the poorest Dagnians can afford it with no problem.

I know, it is one of the oldest (but still true) arguments against universal health care. I support doctor assisted suicide though because I don't think the government has any more right to tell us when we can and can't end our lives than it does getting into the health care business in the first place.

West-Dimonia has well-funded and free universal health care, as well as free education up to and including the first six years of college.

It's paid for by taxes, so the wealthy provide it for those who would otherwise not be able to afford it.

Morrdh has universal healthcare in the form of the Commonwealth Health Service which functions very much like Britain's NHS of the 1950s, expect that patients have to prove that they are a Commonwealth citizen or will be forced to pay for treatment. This is actually a measure adopted to stop 'health tourists' trying to claim free treatment at the expense of the Morridane taxpayer.
