Because the G11 fires three bullets in the time it takes an FAL to fire one.

And because CoD is lol-not realistic.

Actually we began experimenting with it in the late 1800's and found it to be a dead end. Sorry you wasted so much time and effort on a worthless technology. :meh:

I'm not as angry with a shovel-stock AK as I thought I would be.

I've been doing some reading on modern AT weaponry, so are... tandem-charge warheads, on things like the RPG-29 the new 'hot thing'? With active defense systems - such as the Trophy - not as widespread or popular amongst NS vehicles as I think it is, is there really a point to tandem-charge warheads? Is there a benefit to them beyond defeating such Active Protection Systems?

Tandem warheads were actually designed to counter ERA. A smaller 'precursor' warhead detonates the ERA, allowing the main charge to blast just armour.
Triple-tandem warheads were designed by the Russians, apparently to counter APS, then ERA, and finally deploy a main charge to hit the armour. However, they never quite got it to work. Engineering issue of the only suitable place for the second precursor charge being behind the main charge.
(I originally got told it was for a 'follow up' warhead for after-armour effects, but apparently not, so w/e)

I'm thinking that when I ever get around to re-floating my storefront, I'm going to intentionally mis-sell my products based upon common munition and system misconceptions, whilst having actually designed the systems with the correct effects in mind. Big emphasis on the lethality of 5.45mm rounds tumbling, triple-tandems being for 'after-armour effects', and also 'stopping power' in big cartridges. Just to make them sell better, since that's how companies work IRL :P

...that makes much more sense. Now was it the Russians screwing up the triple charge warhead because... well, Russians, or is it a genuinely complex thing to do? I also now noticed that the TOW and Javelin also use tandem charges, so it's not only a Russian thing as I thought before.

The Russians are actually exquisite armaments manufacturers and designers. This is the country that gave us the AK family, the RPG family and the T-72 family, of course.

But no, it is difficult to do. If you consider how a HEAT shell is adversely affected by rifling (the armour-penetrating jet is distorted by the spin), that's why the Russians made them fin-stabilised. Now consider the shape such a shell would have to have - a full-bore calibre main body cylinder, with a cone at each end - the ballistic nose cone, and the tail cone that tapers off into the round's tail and the fin arrangement. The largest and most important charge, the main, has to be in the main cylinder. The nose cone can only realistically accommodate one precursor charge, otherwise one of the two precursors won't have the desired effect and the round will fail due to either APS or ERA. So the second precursor has to go behind the main charge. The Russians tried to offset the positioning of the three charges, but obviously you only have so much space, and the main charge still ended up being holed during firing.

I keep mixing up Russians with their weaponry and their space programme. I just need to think of that designed for practicality picture. Based off of just that, I think two charges will be sufficient, anything that isn't sufficiently blown up by one of these can always have heavier ordnance aimed at it. 8)

I'm doing that as well to some extent. When I eventually get Triplicate Defence Industries up and running, a few of the products are probably going to be somewhat useless gimmicks that I'm trusting to be bought by people who don't know any better. It was my justification for keeping the radiator accessory for the TBR-144 after someone said it would actually be useless (that, and I didn't want to throw out perfectly good lineart) but apparently that does still have a decent practical application. There will be some silly bits and bobs in there in the end though.

And speaking of Triplicate; I'm almost done with the THR-288 (image currently too big to fit). Still need to add some shadowing and detailing to the stock, like the grip on the buttplate and the company logo. I also still have yet to draw in the battery/power chord and I'm not entirely sure where the fire selector's going to go yet. You get the idea though.

I... tend to move whatever I've selected onto a new layer, and adjust it on the entirety of the layer by double clicking on the layer in the layer window and adjusting opacity.

Practice makes perfect, but GIMP makes me cry, I don't know how to use it nearly as well as PDN.

But yeah, use a selector tool, copy, create new layer, paste, double click on layer, adjust opacity, bam, transparent something.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem possible to just use the "fill space" tool unless you have a colour selected so I think your only option is meticulous use of the eraser. Lack of an easy way to rub stuff out it probably one of the most irritating aspects of the program for me - that and the clunky copy/paste interface.
