License Plates in Your Nation

Postby Zitru » Tue Jun 07, 2011 1:10 am

Most countries must have license or registration plates on vehicles, like a letter and/or number code. In the Dragon Republic, these vary by state. The state which the capital city resides in, Kavlaik, is the example we will use. The format used is ABC-123. Private license plates are legal in the state, such as "EXAMPL".

An expired plate showing Yasashii's previous flag.

Yasashii License Plates prominently display the national flag top and center, with the date the vehicle was registered on the left and the plate's expiry/renewal date on the right (6 months, 1 year, or 2 years after the registration date, at the discretion of the vehicle owner). Below this is a sequentially assigned alphanumeric series that may range from 0 A to 9999 ZZZ, allowing for over 17.5 billion combinations. Vanity plates are an option for a special fee. Below this is a bar code and another alphanumeric series. The bar code, when scanned, will display the location the vehicle was registered as well as the owner's name (whether it be a private individual, company, embassy, or government entity), thus negating the need for paper vehicle registration. The second series denotes the registration type followed by the vehicle classification, as listed below, for insurance purposes.

Registration Type:
Private vehicles:
D1-Owner has Standard Driver's license for vehicles up to 2,000 kg.
D2-Owner has Standard Driver's license for vehicles up to and over 2,000kg.
L1-Owner has First Level Learner's permit (must be accompanied by a licensed driver with a D1 or D2 level license).
L2-Owner has Second Level Learner's permit.
Other:
C1-Commercial Vehicle, owner is an incorporated entity.
C2-Fleet Vehicle (i.e taxi, rental car), owner is an incorporated entity.
G1-Vehicle operated by a government department or agency.
G2-Vehicle operated by the armed forces.
G3-Vehicle operated by a law enforcement agency.
Z-Owner is a foreign government or diplomatic mission.

Vehicle Classification:
0xx-Vehicle has an engine displacement <750cc
1xx-Vehicle has an engine displacement >750cc and <1500cc
2xx-Vehicle has an engine displacement >1500cc and <2500cc
3xx-Vehicle has an engine displacement >2500cc and <3500cc
4xx-Vehicle has an engine displacement >3500cc and <5000cc
5xx-Vehicle has an engine displacement >5000cc
x0x-Vehicle has continuous tracks (i.e. tanks)
x2x-Vehicle has 2 wheels
x3x-Vehicle has 3 wheels
x4x-Vehicle has 4 wheels
x6x-Vehicle has 6 wheels
x8x-Vehicle has 8 or more wheels
xx0-Vehicle weighs <1,500kg
xx1-Vehicle weighs >1,500kg and <2,000kg
xx2-Vehicle weighs >2,000kg and <4,000kg
xx3-Vehicle weighs >4,000 kg and <6,000kg
xx4-Vehicle weighs >6,000kg

In the example above, the plate number is 8056 MAZ, registered in December 2008 and expiring in December 2010. The driver holds a D1 license and the vehicle has an engine displacement between 1,500cc and 2,500cc, four wheels, and weighs less than 1,500kg.

Standard plates use the format AA11-111-AAA, e.g. KX11-28-PQR.

The first two letters are the state (KX=Kixas), the next two digits are the year (2011), the next three digits are the district (28 is the Eastern Part of Rosenham) and the final three letters make the combination unique.

Personalised number plates still have to start with the state and year. An example would be KX11-A1B3RT.

While there are not many automobiles in Aurora Nova, our license plates resemble those used by the European Union; the blue strip, however, is replaced by a red one, bearing the emblem on our flag. Government and diplomatic plates have separate designs.

There is no vehicle registry or licensing in our nation. Anyone who can afford to purchase, build, or otherwise legally acquire a vehicle may drive that vehicle without restriction. The criminal code holds people liable for their actions, not for the tools they use. Flattening someone with a car is no less ilegal than flattening them with anything else: A manslaughter charge will remain manslaughter whether you commit it with a vehicle or a loaf of bread.

Nonetheless, license plates exist on cars, as a form of ornamentation. Such designer plates can be custom made at many automotive supply businesses, and generally includes some degree of functionality such as interfacing with toll systems. Their actual appearance and labelling is unregulated, however, and it is legal to drive without one, or print just about anything on one: They are not directly used for identification.

AS06ES89AB is an example of a car plate in the IA. The first two letters indicate the region where the car was sold (AS means it was sold in Alysena, a region in Northern Astoria), and then the code alternates between two numbers and two letters. Below it is the year and month of registration (for example: 2006.11 means the car was sold in November 2006). This scheme has been used since 1996.

Car plates are issued by each of the 5 Duchies, the Province of Alterdamm, and by the Royal Government for Ministerial Vehicles and Diplomats.

The Duchies. Each plate has a series of numbers and/or letters as well as the 2 letter code for each county, except for Alterdamm which has a single letter followed by numbers.

Registration plates in Makaar appear in the format ABC-1234-5678-D. The first three letters correspond to one of the registry offices in the country where this vehicle's permanent records are held. The first four digits correspond to the vehicle's colour and year of registration, while the second four digits and the last letter are a random combination.

Registration plates must be displayed on the front and rear of the vehicle. All Makaarian police cars are now fitted with numberplate recognition cameras, which automatically read every numberplate they see, feed the results into the Police National Computer to ensure that the vehicle is insured, taxed and has been given a test of roadworthiness, and warn the operators about any vehicles being operated without these three necessary documents.
Makaar is ranked 323rd in the world for Most Dedicated Public Healthcare.
Makaar is ranked 272nd in the world for Largest Welfare Programs (per capita).
Makaar is ranked 408th in the world for Nicest Citizens.
