Of course not! Don't be ridiculous! Religious Fundamentalism is both frowned upon and mocked. Any and all religious groups are far more tolerant and less backwards.

Only 1% of the nation has any religious faith at all, so religion in general is pretty rare, let alone religious fundamentalism. Even if there was an element of religious fundamentalism in Tsvarchi, religion has absolutely no influence in any part of Tsvarchivan culture, society, or law, so a fundamentalist would have a hard time adhering to such strict interpretations of their faith.

A Neo Athenian by definition is someone who despises religious fundamentalism. This sort of thing is not tolerated in our country, and the law cracks down heavily on fundamentalists.

Religious fundamentalism in your nation

Postby Parhe » Mon Jun 06, 2011 7:00 pm

I thought Christian Fundamentalist were Christians that believed in five things: Jesus's virgin birth, Jesus died for people's sin, Jesus was physically resurrected three days after his death on the cross, Jesus's miracles really did happen, and that the bible is without error. I believe in the first four myself(I doubt the bible is 100% perfect), so I guess I would be a religious fundamentalist. And since I make the people of Parhe believe the same as me, most of the citizens are religious fundamentalist.

Religion is accepted in New Ziedrich. Religious fundamentalism is crushed wherever it is found, as it is a poisonous, divisive influence that weakens nations, and the Imperium will not allow such a threat to fester within its territories.

The largest sect of Religious Faith in the Merchant Republics is the Venetian Orthodoxy, a church whose founding principles are tolerance and the separation of church and state and founded a council of faiths through which tolerance could be spread. To be a religious fundamentalist in the Republics one would have to believe totally in those principals and thus not be a fundamentalist. Exceptions do exist of course, as they do in all societies. But by and large religious fundamentalism has little fertile ground in the Republics.

Religious fundamentalism in your nation

Postby Parhe » Mon Jun 06, 2011 7:17 pm

Now I'm confused on what exactly a fundamentalist is. I thought it was a person that believed strongly in the teachings of his or her religion(believing in tolerance, if the religion calls for it, would be a fundamentalist), but the post make it sound negative. Can someone please clarify what exactly fundamentalism is, I seem to have a different definition.

Yes, there are some groups. Although Cults are the norm, so a fundamentalist cult group runs one of the three private militias.

They are called the Crusaders of the Temple of the Shell, or the Shell Templars for short. They are an offshoot of Omn Worship. They fight in the name of Omn the Mollusk God and rush into battle with warcries of "Omniplacophora!!!"

Religious fundamentalism is almost exclusively non-existent in Vermont, mostly due to the fact the government does not incorporate theological ideals into it's governmental policy.

[It's more of a person who has a literal interpretation and very strong faith in their religion literally.]

In Greater Americania both Judaism and Islam are banned. There are some fundamentalist Christian groups that are allowed to exist under the conditions that they adhere to Nationalist principles and do not advocate placing the church over the State in any way. Any group that would advocate a merger of church or state (against Nationality secularism), or seeks to seize power in place of the Nationalist Party would be rounded up and prosecuted.

Most of these groups are going to be found in the territory New Greater Americania or in the eastern Greater Americania homeland itself. They, like all Christian groups, are given legal opportunity to exist and state their beliefs publicly. They tend to be small in nature, as there is a thin line between the acceptable and unacceptable. Many of the groups end up advocating political policies deemed anti-Nationalist, and as a result are immediately dissolved.

While Religious Fundamentalism per se is not outlawed, most crimes committed by members of known Fundamentalist organizations end up being penalized with a higher penalty than crimes committed by non-Fundamentalists, as said crimes end up having "hate crime" as an aggravating circumstance.

How is religious fundamentalism regarded in your nation?
Officially, religious fundamentalism is permitted on the basis that it represents part of free speech. However, the advocating of violence based on religious beliefs is outlawed and is punished. This is mainly directed at Muslim fundamentalists, who constitute about 2-3% of the total number of Muslims living in Valcluse.

Are there any notable fundamentalist groups in your nation?
Not as of yet. The government is considering safeguards to be implemented but the authorities have generally had to deal with individuals.

Our religion doesn't lend too much to fundamentalism the way it's typically seen. Suspicion towards other religions? Sure. But nothing of the paraded "thou shalts" or proclamations of spiritual superiority one tends to associate with fundies.
