[The 3rd German Empire]

The 3rd German Empire started out as a group of renagade Germans in WII who opposed the leading German powers. The took about 1000 others with them to a small town on the German border,picking up any guns they could find. They ended up with around 100 rifles and some machine guns. They created an army and built walls around the town. Anytime any troops passed them they captured them and took their guns. Any metal that was found got used for buildings and ammo. By 1943 they had tooken control of another town 20 miles away. In 1944 a small German army tried to take control of the area. In a 9 day battle eventually the 3rd German empire had defeated them and used the non-destroyed tanks as patrol cars. On January 6th 1945 the Empire officialy founded the Third German Empire. By the time the war was over they had come up with a language and started building hospitals and started creating small factories. In 1947 the empire claimed a small city and started trade with Denmark and France. In 1954 we had a full army with 1200 soldiers. In 1956 we established a airforce with 89 planes. In 1961 we went to war with a city in Germany, the war lasted until 1963 finally claiming the city as ours. In 1967 we really started to expand claiming another 100 miles. Soon afterwards we opened 13 new trade routes in 1968. In 1986 we had opened a Navy though we are land-locked. In 1991 we helped France emliminate a large gang hiding near our border. In 1993 we had a economic crisis followed by a Economic boom in 1995 which we are currently still riding. In 2003 we opened trade routes with 14 countries including:Germany, Austria, The USA and Italy. In 2006 we invented our own gun for military use and in 2008 we had a small war with a army from some country (though we dont know which nobody had acually declared war on us.) whcih lasted 108 days. Right now we are building our economy and military.

The People's Republic of Ethyrica was born as the result of an internal civil war between the conservative right-wing monarchists and the left-wing communists. For centuries, the Kingdom of Ethyrica was a major power both economically and militarily and held territories world-wide. Once the period of time known as the Age of Revolution (c. 1900 Agian Era) set in on the Agia Continent and several of those colonies broke away, the Kingdom launched a costly campaign to retake the colonies deemed the "War of Repossesion." After 7 years of fighting the Kingdom withdrew in 1907. Later in 1931, Ethyrica entered a short yet bloody conflict with its southern neighbor Galleta over still unknown reasons; this has been named the "2 Years War" which cost thousands of lives and 1 quarter of the nation's territory. The war was settled by the now-defunct United Nations, who ordered Ethyrica to pay reperations. Eventually, the country's economic situation became so dismal that many poorer citizens were starving while the royal family acted nonchalantly.

Finally, in 1940, dissent began to spread which led to the formation of the left-wing People's National Party and an accompanying militia. The ensuing civil bloodbath lasted 10 years; in 1950 the PNP were victorious. The ousted royals went into exile and have not been heard from since. On July 2, 1950, the PNP officially declared the formation of the People's Republic of Ethyrica.

L3 Communications Corporation was once subservient to the former United States of America. Following a catastrophic war and seizing of military hardware by numerous corporations, including L3, the US Government and remnants of it's military were destroyed in an armed conflict termed the "National Disarmament War". L3, Global Armaments, Aerodyne Industries, dataDyne and several smaller corporations emerged victorious and staked claims in the former ruins of the United States of America.

Currently, L3 Communications claims sovereign territory over much of the former US Northeast (Now termed the American Northeast), Global Armaments has much of the Southwest, including Nevada, Western Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Southern California. A conglomerate of small corporations control much of the former US Midwest and a small portion of the Rocky Mountains. Aerodyne Industries claims much of the American Pacific Northwest, the area roughly around Oregon, Washington State and Idaho.

The remaining area between Aerodyne and GA is claimed by dataDyne, including both of the Dakotas, Wyoming and Montana. The pitiful remains of the US Government have established a small government in Florida and it's surrounding states, Georgia and Alabama. They have, for now, remained a non-threat to corporate security. They maintain embassies in all of the corporations' capitals and vice versa. The areas that are claimed by the US nor the corporations are home to various governments, most of which have some sort of corporation in a high government place.

Dagnia was formed by a group of scientists, engineers, technicians, entrepreneurs and other intelligent, innovative people as a place where they would be free to think, invent and create without interference or well-meaning but ultimately disastrous help from their governments. To this day, Dagnia is still the drain that steals away the brains from less free-thinking nations.

In the year 1800, the region of western new Brunsiwck had just passed though the haze of a civil bloodbath. A conglamoration of governments lorded over the region, until a large civil war sparked all the nations' doom. The remaining citizens that survivied the conflict had no choice but to live in a tentative peace with each other. The region lived in anarachy for years, unsure of what to do with themselves, until a new leader stood up organzing an offical government from ideas spread from other nations. Walder Heinrich, then formed his own nation under the Marxist ideaology called The Empire of Merieu. He later attained the title of Walder the Quiet for two reasons; letting his secretarys and other legislature members talk to the people of the country and the world using words that he told them to say, and for simply being a quiet, shy person. The new nation mostly remained a rather poor nation until trade with the Serbian Soviet Union and the League of Imperial nations in the year 1950 brought their economy and standard of living into the global average.

Thirty years ago, however, after the execution of a number of wealthy business owners, the people saw that the government would go to any legnths to punish political defecters. So business owners and factory workers alike stormed the capitol building, took Walder the quiet from his office, and through him out of the five story window onto the cobblestone road. Most of the legislature was round up and shot by a new milita, and a new leader arose from the conflict, Alexander Grahmnbell. Alexander began to enact laws rewriting the beleifs of Merieu, and the country is now considered a Social Democracy.

Shortly after the early phases of the terraforming of Mars, and not long after the great food riots of 2074 on Earth, a colony was formed on the Meridiani Planum, a great plain on Mars, by a large group of Objectivists, Libertarians, Eudaimonists, market liberals, right-wing secular humanists, and fellow travellers. how it all came together, well i'm not really an historian, but i'll try to remember to look into it one of these days.

i think it had something to do with some genetically self-modified hippies (who looked kind of like other life forms, but with very creative human minds and forepaws) living out in the woods, and some survivors from a crashed UFO from some world called Lananara. or maybe it was after earth was invited to join the galactic u.n. that would have had to have been AFTER the collapse of ALL ideological fanaticism, sometime near the middle of what at that time had been called the 21st century, but which is now, based on the Baha'i calendar, known as the middle of the second (or even third) century of the Baha'i era.

i know it didn't have anything to do with any kind of armed conflict. just people getting to gather to keep each other from starving and learn from the land how to live harmoniously with and on it.

well even that was centuries ago, but there are SOME lessons from that time we won't ever forget. like the dependence of unity and stability on diversity.

The Republic of Stolitland was founded in 2008 by the officers of several corporations (Fuller-Garrett Industries, BIR Minerals, Artica Holdings, and Red River Capital Management) after a series of interventions on the part of the Oeriman government left the companies on the verge of bankruptcy.


Fuller-Garrett Industries: Legislation

Fuller-Garrett Industries was a manufacturer of semiconductors used in all manners of consumer electronics. The company pioneered several developments in semiconductor and circuit board technology, and those technologies were licensed to other corporations for a fee. The company heavily re-invested in research and development, and the company was heavily leveraged. At its height, the company had a market capitalization of nearly $15 billion.

In the interests of saving the environment, several foreign governments banned the use of a proprietary chemical used in the manufacturing process. This chemical appeared not only in the process, but in trace amounts in the product itself; this rendered the product un-sellable in those countries. The company petitioned the governments for reconsideration, but it was to no avail. Licensing fees began to dry up, and as contracts began to expire and were not renewed, the highly leveraged company became insolvent and was forced to reduce research and development expenses.

The lack of new developments in semiconductor technology exposed the company to more intense competition from competitors. After several months of declining revenue, the company was able to generate a substitute for the initial chemical. Less than a week after the implementation of the new process, the company received news that the governments that had outlawed the first chemical were now claiming that the second chemical caused cancer, and emergency legislation was passed in those countries to bar the use of it. Fuller Industries experienced a decrease in share value of over 80 percent. The Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors were ousted, and three weeks later, the company was sold to a competitor for a mere fraction of its previous value.

Following swift approvals of the sale by government agencies, new research suddenly came to light that neither of the chemicals used either harmed the environment or caused cancer. The previous studies had been based off of contaminated material.

Finding the timing of events to be suspicious, the CEO, CFO, and CIO of the former Fuller-Garrett Industries investigated the matter privately, and found that relatives of the researchers involved had been paid several hundred thousand dollars by the competitor. Further investigation revealed that the competitor had extensive ties with mid-level government agents in the relevant countries and that the competitor had parked the cash used to pay for Fuller-Garrett Industries several weeks before the first study came out.


BIR Minerals: Nationalization

BIR Minerals was a vertically integrated mining corporation, logistics provider, and commercial supplier of copper wire, pipe, and bars. The company was known for its highly efficient supply-chain management system and its policy of paying above-average wages for work as well as including every single employee at any level in any location in the company's profit-sharing program. While the exact net worth of the company was never precisely known due to the fact that the company was always kept private, the estimated market value at its height was just under $60 billion.

A protracted tropical storm near a cluster of highly productive mines slowed the company's production of copper material to a virtual halt. When the company announced that the production would be low, futures traders began to buy, expecting that the company would have no surplus to sell, as it usually did. Not only were the traders right, but the company was forced to buy copper on the open market to meet its contractual obligations with customers. This in turn further increased the price of copper.

Several large infrastructure development projects were being bid on at the time the storms were occuring. Following the price increase of copper, the company retracted its bids and substituting higher bids. The bids were accepted at the higher rate, but to compensate for the loss, the foreign companies began to underpay and overwork the workers, which resulted in local unrest. The laborers pointed the finger at the companies, which pointed the finger at BIR Minerals. The governments accused BIR Minerals of encouraging companies to exploit workers for unethical gain.

BIR Minerals' domestic government began to investigate the issue. The company furnished evidence that it was not attempting to exploit anyone and that its contracts had been accepted of the locals' own volition. When the media frenzy grew, and prosecuting authorities began to investigate the company, the company offered to pay for the disparity of wages between the promised and given wages to the workers. This backfired, as the company was accused of violating the civil rights of laborers and unethically exploiting innocent peoples, and the offer to pay for the wages was taken as a clear admission of guilt. After an extended beating in the media and sales figures, criminal charges were filed against two of the company's officers who had brokered the deals.

The company insisted that it had done nothing wrong, and the company began to invest funds in advertising to demonstrate as such. However, the damage had been done. Following an unrelated incident where another company had attempted to break up a foreign strike, which had gone bad and resulted in the deaths of several strikers, legislation had been passed to make available as a remedy the nationalization of the company to "avoid inducement of poor management decisions, including...the unethical exploitation of workers" as the statute had provided. BIR Minerals itself was charged with violations of this statute, and in court, the company lost. The company appealed and lost, with the opinion of the court proudly proclaiming a victory for the rights of workers everywhere, and that the liquidation of the company's domestic assets was meant to serve the interests of justice and economic fairness.

The nationalization of the company quickly resulted in internal strife and battle over the power of its assets. The company's assets were sold out from underneath it due to the new lack of oversight, and the decrease in efficiency resulted in the elimination of its key competitive advantage. The government quickly determined that the decentralized company would be difficult to stablize and would require too much capital to recover the purloined assets. In less than a year after nationalization, the company was permanently closed.


Red River Capital Management: Partial Nationalization

Red River Capital Management was, at one point, the world's largest investment group. With nearly $8 trillion in funds under management, the company was a leading investor in insurance, leasing, and banking. The company pursued an aggressive growth strategy of buying distressed competitors and merging their assets into the Red River Capital Management company, which was organized by division by the three aforementioned investment types. The company had managed to avoid major scandals and had even short-sold its way to success over several bubbles over a 30 year period.

Ultimately, the company's size proved to be its downfall. Distressed competitors that had not been brought out could not compete with the efficiency and personnel acquired by the giant, and the company was sued. Plaintiffs claimed that Red River Capital Management was in violation of anti-trust statutes. Red River Capital Management, confident in its position, declined a nominal settlement and took the plaintiffs in the case to court. The plaintiffs presented a lackluster case, and the prospects for the company looked good. The judge, in that case, concluded that while the company was not aggressively cutting out competitors, as precluded by law, the company had an unfair advantage in the insurance industry due to a natural monopoly on commercial ship loans. The court ordered the company to divest portions of its financial assets for a reasonable price to the plaintiffs. When it was learned that the plaintiffs had no funds with which to purchase those companies and loans, the judge ordered Red River Capital Management to pay a sizable sum to the plaintiffs, which the company did.

The company then received notice of a second lawsuit. This time, the company was being sued by the Oeriman government for allegedly short-changing the plaintiffs. The company contended that it had complied with the settlement and furnished evidence to that effect. The government, seeking to force a settlement in which it would receive certain banking assets for its own purposes, began a public relations campaign, in which it accused the company of "predatory lending" and other unscrupulous practices to "make even more money...on the backs of the working class." While some institutional investors were initially aware that this was obvious pandering, the message began to take hold, and the company, in that year, experienced an 86% decline in profit. The vitriol on the nightly news was such that the company remained solvent solely by sheer virtue of the number of companies it invested in and controlled. Many of the companies were private and in different regions, and hence were subject to limited or no reporting requirements. However, institutional investors in the company began to fear a larger public or governmental backlash, and slowly began to withdraw investments.


Artica Holding Corporation: Patent Problems

Artica Holding Corporation was a supplier of defense technologies. The company's product lines, split among various wholly owned subsidiares, included firearms, missiles, missile control systems, radar systems, and satellites. The company first started as a small manufacturer of commercial firearms. The operation became successful after the company unveiled the world's first all-polymer pistol, and the company then leveraged that success to pursue the then woefully underserved market in missile technologies, which was expanded to include radar systems. The company met with moderate success in that field. The company became highly successful after purchasing a small concern for its intellectual property. This small firm was owned by an engineer who'd developed a new camera system with a resolution higher than anything seen before it. Artica Holding Corporation, through its subsidiary, engineered a computer program using sophisticated range-finding equipment to track the movement of anything that the camera looked at. Seeing the obvious benefits in missile detection, the company expanded this technology to the skies. After billions of dollars in research and development, the company launched a network of satellites which were capable of detecting the movement of any missiles in the air over a certain size, anywhere in the world, in real time.

Problems were instant. The country of Oerima was then in a hostile state with the nation of Eneria. While both countries were not technically at war, the two countries suppiled minor proxy nations with supplies and propoganda. The elevated risk of hostilities meant that the company could sell the system to the government at a substantial profit. Unfortunately, this plan never materialized. The King of Eneria, enraged at the announcement of this new technology, and concerned that its imminent deployment could jeopardize his nation's position as a world power, ordered his military to commence bombardment of outlying Oeriman cities. The Oeriman Prime Minister began peace talks immediately with the King of Eneria, over long distances. The King of Eneria explained that the imminent deployment of the technology had forced him to act, in spite of otherwise productive attempts to repair the relationship between the two nations. The King of Eneria, hoping to prevent the Oerimans from deploying the technology, conditioned a ceasefire upon the trial of the President of Artica Holding Corporation for war crimes, a large monthly tribute, and a prohibition of this technology. The prospect of a costly war with an evenly matched opponent made this an attractive alternative for the Oerimans.

The government immediately began a propoganda campaign, accusing the company of inciting the war in the first place. The President of the company was tried in Oeriman court, behind closed doors, and sentenced to life in prison. The former President of the company was subsequently killed in prison. The company itself began to witness a downfall in its stock value, as customers, individual, organizational, and national alike began to distance themselves. As the supply chain began to get thinner, the new President of Artica Holding Corporation was contacted.


The Founding

With diminished cash flows, credit lines, and public reputations, each of the companies had suffered a major hit. As it turned out, certain individuals from each company knew one another. What initially began as collective dispair became collective anger, and then, collective considerations. The four corporations knew that the government had been increasingly involved in their respective affairs over the previous years, but had never anticipated the problems that they faced.

Like many good ideas, this idea came from a highly intoxicated regional assistant to the vice president of sales at Fuller-Garrett at the corporate Christmas party. The CFO overheard this idea, in which the corporations could purchase land and declare it to be sovereign, and thus beyond the scope of the Oeriman laws. The CFO initially discounted this absurd idea as the drunken ramblings of a man who had just discovered that his Christmas bonus was a membership in the Jelly of the Month Club. The drunkard continued, however, that other companies, fed up with regulation, could lend their respective competitive advantages to fill the obvious holes that such a plan would entail. The corporations could then set up a country with absolutely no restrictions whatsoever on private business. Having ingested a reasonable quantity of liquor himself, the CFO contacted the CEO. The CEO revealed that the government was giong to sell hundreds of thousands of square miles of contiguous land in an effort to replace the tax funds that suddenly weren't appearing in their coffers for that fiscal year. The land, while not particularly desirable, did have enough natural resources to be of interest. The CEO contacted a good friend of his, who had just been promoted to President of Artica Holding Corporation, to tell him of the idea.

What followed next was a series of contacts and phone calls between various members of the four corporations (or former corporations, in the case of BIR Minerals). The respective leaders of the various companies, recognizing imminent legislation to mandate employee unions and require government approval of compensation to certain officers of corporations over a certain size, recognized the necessity of escaping these laws. The corporations pooled what money they had into the YIAD Corporation (which privately stood for "Yes, It's A Dummy Corporation"), which then borrowed, from various institutions, the massive capital required to buy the land. The government, eager to obtain the money, sold the land to the concern.

The concern, then having the land, notified the Oeriman government that it intended to declare the land sovereign. Immediately, the Oeriman military began to mobilize to take control of the still-empty land. The military was stopped by an emergency law passed by the legislature, which had been significantly influenced by the finance corporations with significant exposure to the land deal and without the capabilities of converting such large parcels of land into anything that could be sold. Ironically, the government corruption which had so plagued the four companies saved their attempt to create a new government. After significant teething problems with infrastructure and crime, they succeeded.

Thus, Stolitland was born.

Gracefall was initially part of a huge land pact owned by natives, low-tech sort of people. When the land was bought out, a war ensued between a corrupt government and a native.

Gracefall was a very large police state initially, citizens treated badly and immigrants being forced into slave labor. A group known as the "Oppressed Peoples Of Gracefall" soon formed, encouraging a revolution against the police state. Eventually, the OPOG won, and formed Gracefall as it is.

7% of Venezue serves in the army at peace time, we also have british apache Ah-64d's (the best helicopter to date), british armoured vikings, several F-15's and mig's. A few abrams tanks, along with several british snatch land rovers. (that is the only the de-classified list)

Imota was originally colonized by Japanese adherents of Shinto who established villages on some islands in the South Pacific sometime in the 10th century. They then lost contact with the Japanese home islands and developed on their own until the 1930's, when they allied themselves with the Axis forces in the Second World War. They were then invaded and surrendered to the Americans, who rebuilt their theocratic government along more egalitarian lines. This is the Imota that exists today.

My 'nation' (moar liek interstellar empire) was founded in what is officially 2153 A.D., nearly a century after it was launched from Earth by the European Union as part of a deep-space, extra-solar colony project. Over two million people were stored in cryostasis, along with what amounts to an armored division and larges amounts of terraforming equipment. Eventually, the ship encountered an error along the way to it's planned destination and was stuck in 'hyperspace' for about 98 years. After a good portion of breaking down, engine burnout, etc. the ship exited hyperspace near a small planet.

The colonists named the planet "Home", due to it's resemblance to Earth, although it was slightly larger. The colony ship, completely exhausted of oxygen and Hydrogen-3 (the primary component in nuclear fusion), touched down on the planet. After a few months of working, the colony was fully established and had what amounted to a small nation. After about a year on the planet, they declared themselves independent from Earth and established a technocratic meritocracy to help them deal with the local problems.

The biggest of these 'problems' were the planet's natives, what are now classified as Homo S. Felis or Homo S. Felinae. Anyways, these nekos had a civilization built on their pretty little orb and naturally they were locked in a Cold War. Because hey, what self-respecting planet doesn't have a Cold War between two similar but ideologically different superpowers? So, the colonists landed in the "evil" superpower, but was pretty much akin to the US. That is, it had a democratic, federal government and an extremely advanced military.

This ridiculously large, nuclear equipped army came bearing down on a small group of two million colonists with nothing more than a division sized element of weekend warriors armed with plasma torches and power loaders. Okay, maybe that is an exaggeration, because the division was more akin to one of the European Union Battlegroups than an actual division and was equipped with main battle tanks, assault rifles, powered armor, etc.

So, after a good few months of fighting against what was later determined to be nothing more than a few divisions of reservists and a small battalion of regular Army units, the colony was finally recognized by the governments of the planet. (The fact that they had the colony ship's point defences shoot down a couple nuclear warheads in mid-flight helped a little, too.) Skipping ahead a few centuries, the planet was eventually united into two hyperpowers, one overseen by a meritocratic council (aka me) and another by a small group of military leaders.

After a massive war that involved the use of anti-matter weapons (since nukes have a nasty habit of leaving radiations), the military junta surrendered and was absorbed into the unified government, now called the Hegemony. This "Technocratic Hegemony" later focused it's (dwindling) resources onto a project similar to the very one that created it. However, this time there was no massive error in the flight control computer and the first planet was successfully colonized.

Rinse, lather, repeat a few hundred thousand times and you have what you see today.
