Your Military's Field Ration

Postby Serchar-Batelo » Sun Jun 05, 2011 11:54 am

What is your nation's field ration?

Serchar-Batelo's field ration consist of:

• 2 meals (in MRE-esque packs)
• Crackers + spread (jam, cheese and butter)
• Fruits or vegetables (in small air-sealed packs)
• A plate of chocolate (dark chocolate is preferred)
• Instant fruit juice (powder)
• Instant coffee and tea (powder)
• Miscellaneous (Salt, sugar, cream, cutlery, a cup, matches, toilet paper, compact heater)

All products containing sugar have been removed (except the sugar itself and chocolate, however, the chocolate contains very little sugar). Desserts have been removed in favor of fruit.

- One (1) High Density Nutrient Brick. (3 or 4 bites of this and you've got a light meal.)

- Two (2) 1.5-liter jugs of water.

That would be our active combat ration. As in, if you're out on patrol, this is the stuff you take with you to munch on. Not a lot of fun, but it's light and efficient.

- One (1) Small Loaf of Bread.

- Tw0 (2) Large Sausage or Meatloaf (Turkey, Pork or Beef)

- Two (2) Packets of Obnoxiously Tasteless Seasoning.

- Two (2) 1.5-liter jugs of water.

- Maybe some sort of crappy candy bar.

That is our stationed ration. As in, if you're guarding a checkpoint or at a Base of Operations, this is what you get to munch on. A bit better.

Our hooves are adapted for manipulating small objects. Alternatively, unicorn guards can use their magic.

Known as the Operational Ration Pack, General Purpose in Minoa. Packed inside a small cardboard box, each ration has enough retort-pouched and canned foods to feed one soldier for 24 hours. Together with vegetarian and religious variants, they provide two precooked meals (Breakfast and Main Meal) plus a midday snack. There is also a larger version to feed 10 soldiers in 24 hours.

Nah, imagine a compacted brick of grain, wheat and god knows what else. If you've seen Firefly, then basically the stuff in the crate in the pilot episode.

Rations:
Following our national motto; start right, end right. My nations eggheads chose to bypasses the stomach completely in an effort to reduce time wasted eating in high intensity combat zones or long durations of attention.

All, navy, air force and professional soldiers are fitted with the standard M18 subcutaneous cannula which is usually fitted underneath the arm. Designing it to be infection free was difficult but eventually overcome through a combination of the use of silver infused parts and ultraviolet light LEDs. It also has a safety detach function, in case of strain experienced during say; a close explosion.

This allows Arcas’ soldiers to connect ‘nutrient packs’ stored in there camelback-packs and constantly consume a chemically formulated nutrient broth directly into the blood. This keeps them from feeling ‘bloated’ or ‘sluggish’ after eating. The rate of drain on the pack is based on diffusion ‘in situe’ so that it can accommodate different metabolisms.
However it is not recommended to use these for longer than 3 days without additional ‘fresh’ food supplements (usually provided as 50% of the soldiers diet) as this can result in atrophy of the stomach muscles as well as zero body fat and subsequently reduced endurance, healing and vitamins. Soldiers are often advised to carry energy bars to supplement there diet. The circadian rhythm is preserved by day/night cycles set by the cannula microprocessor which is also responsible for cleaning it.
The M18 cannula can also be used for immediate administering of medicines by medics when oral pills are not ideal.

Image

Advantages:
The result is that soldiers have to carry less food, can fight harder and for longer without breaks and have with ideal diet plans. They also avoid the problem of finding veins to administer drugs or multiple vein collapses. Increasing the soldiers survival rate and further invalidating the .223 bullet wounding hypothesis. It also, to a certain extend makes combat drugs unnecessary.

Hardtack, some instant coffee/tea, a high-fat, high-nutrient and high-calorie canned item (usually meat-based with vegetables, there are vegetarian, religious, etc. choices available as well), some high-energy "chocolate" (it is unknown what is actually in it, but since it looks reasonably enough like chocolate, then it is chocolate), some fruit pastes and a hexamine stove. Multivitamins are included as well, in order to fill any gaps left by the ration.
