The human genome is our plaything. We can create and alter human life as easily as we can take a shit, and we could even create a human who lacks that capability or shits with the force of a shotgun blast. We have altered the brain chemistry of our citizens to make them all perfectly obedient slaves to do absolutely nothing but work and occasionally eat or sleep. Creating a police state is so much easier when the people are literally incapable of even forming the concept of revolting. We've even bonded genetics and robotics into one, creating citizens whose bodies are teeming with nanorobots that do all sorts of things like prevent disease; make the body's metabolism far more efficient; strengthen the muscles beyond regular human levels; increase the agility and flexibility beyond regular human levels; heal any wound, even dismembered limbs, with surprising speed; among many other useful abilities.
Besides turning all of our citizens into genetically perfected super-human slaves, we have also created a nation-wide "mind link" to monitor our citizens' every thought and feeling twenty-four/seven. With the aid of the aforementioned nanorobots, we have altered the human mind into a pseudo-computer-like thing which is perpetually connected to a massive database continually monitored by a highly intelligent AI system. If anyone even thinks about breaking the law (after somehow getting past the mental tampering and conditioning to prevent such things), then we'll know about it immediately and send someone to dispose of the troublemaker.
Aside from technology specifically created to utterly control the population, our science and technology are rather standard, we'd assume, though we do have a nice orbital death beam to blow up anything we want with the touch of a button. It really helps prevent the other countries from trying to invade us under nonsensical claims of "human rights violations," whatever that means.
