Mercanaries in your country?

Postby Naurobia » Fri Jun 03, 2011 2:45 pm

Are mercenary (Private Military Companies) legal in your nation? If so then how many private military companies are based in your nation? Are there any laws and regulations regarding them? Here in Naurobia we have 2 private military companies. They are Alpha Corp, and one called Inter Regiment. The laws regarding them are...
-They can only fight for and/or provide assistance to legitimate governments recognized by the Naurobia federal government.
-20% of the money they earned from their contracts is taxed by the Naurobia federal government
-All of their personnel cannot have any mental problems and must have passed a psychological exam and must be at least 18 years old
-They cannot fight against any entity that is on friendly relations with Naurobia
-All of their armed soldiers and personnel operating military equipment or vehicles (whether armed or unarmed) must be qualified to use them.

Also are they allowed to operate tanks or other armed military vehicles? Alpha Corp legally operates 2 T-72 Main Battle Tanks, 3 BMP-2 Infantry Fighting Vehicles, 10 M113A1 Armored Personnel Carriers, and 3 Mi-24 Hind helicopter gunships.

Of course! Mercenaries are typically either employed as the bodyguards of Generals or the guards of private corporations or extremely rich people who wish to have the best in protection.

Oue military does not hire mercenaries but we do have security guards hired by both companies and governments. We provide mercenaries to other countries, and all have similar training and examinations to soldiers in the ArghNeedAName Military. The mercenaries have to document where their soldiers are, and the President can legally bar them from serving in a particular country.

They exist, are taxed, and they frequently work abroad or for private companies. Over 3 million Luthorians are private security contractors, and over 1 million Luthorians serve abroad in foreign militaries or police forces.

Absolutely not. Private ownership of firearms is banned (except for a single design which is distributed in a very tightly regulated way to members of the National Farmer's Union to defend their crops and livestock from pests), and the formation of organisations with the purpose of usurping the functions of the National Police Service or the armed forces is illegal. The closest thing you'll find to a Private Military Company in Makaar is the security staff employed by nightclubs, who face the same charges as anyone else if they carry an offensive weapon in public or use excessive force on any person.

Are mercenary (Private Military Companies) legal in your nation? Yes. In fact, the bulk of our military services are provided by MOA Technologies, LLC. We actually have a mostly privatized military. There are some talks about creating a nationalized military force, but those are just talks at the moment.

The Defense Department's primary PMC is an electable position, believe it or not.

If so then how many private military companies are based in your nation? It's difficult to say as there are many large "security" companies with tens of thousands of employees, armored vehicles, weapons of mass destruction, and which deploy employees to handle incidents of civil unrest and national security matters. There are also security guards who own "Joe Blow's Security Consulting Corp." as a sole proprietor and stand near the entrance to a store all day. It's hard to say.

Are there any laws and regulations regarding them? No more than any other firm.

Also are they allowed to operate tanks or other armed military vehicles? Yes. Then again, so is everyone else.

We have a whole network of mercenaries here in Ruskarkand.
You can actually read about them here;

They work for the highest bidder, but currently, they have only been hired by private contractors.

helghast soldiers are drilled to stand still even while wearing heavy crap for hours ad hours, though with the gas mask on, you can't tell if he's sleep-standing -.-

we don't have full private firms but a semi private firm, the stahl armaments corporation, does send soldiers that are under their jurisdiction to bidders that need some reinforcements.

There hasn't been any military conflicts for over 200 years and the Green something doesn't even have a real army anymore. So no mercenaries. Just nothing for them to do here. We have lots and lots of robots though which are also our army if need be.

At one point in history we did buy services from mercenaries but even then we didn't really have any in our country.

During the regional conflicts of the 90's Chernobylskayan mercenaries were a common and frightening sight, often fighting on both sides of conflicts having no state(the SSU) to return to. Its likely they are employed by foreign private companies or continue as independent fighters/advisors since there are no private security firms here.

Due to issues concerning transporting heavy equipment back from satellite states, they often, withing certain conflicts had tanks and aircraft.

Mercenaries compose essentially the entirety of armed forces in Deszonia. Mercenary companies are formed, bought, sold and disbanded almost daily, making an exact count of 'companies' impossible. However, some 2% of the population listed their employment as a mercenary of some kind over the course of the last statistical year. They are bound by exactly the same laws as ordinary citizens, even during "warfare" conditions.

No they are not. Civilians holding fire arms is just barbaric. And the last thing we need is giving the people the tools to revolt against the glorious Arch Duke. Not that they would ever want to do that. But one can newer be cautious enough.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

Well, yes and no.

In foreign missions, the generals commanding a particular expedition (especially in far-off places with minimal lines of communications) are empowered to hire local mercenaries to supplement their forces. Some of these units are brought back to Sebastianalandia and form part of our defensive reserve.

Are mercenary (Private Military Companies) legal in your nation?
Yes, PMCs are legal in Xanicea. PMCs are classified under two categories: mercenaries and private contractor groups.

Mercenaries: Most PMCs in Xanicea fit under this wing. Mercenaries are PMCs who take jobs from governments, whether from Xanicea or from abroad. Mercenaries are generally more professional, as government-based contracts pay higher stipends than private contracts do. Mercenary training also tends to be in a narrow, high-quality range (with some mercenary groups being above-average). Mercenary groups wishing to operate in Xanicea legally or wishing to base their supplies in Xanicea are required to fill out special contracts to ensure that they do not hire themselves out to private companies and to make sure that they pay taxes on time (mercenaries pay only 65% income tax, as opposed to regular workers, since they also stimulate Xanicea's arms manufacturing economy).

Private Contractors: Private contractor groups are more rare in Xanicea. Private contractors are PMCs who take jobs from private entities/companies. Since the pay rate varies for private jobs, private contractors tend to be more ad-hoc and less professional-looking, although many possess good military gear. Private contractor training varies wildly, since Xanicea does not regular private contractors, and as such skills range from the above-mercenary skill level to the "can't even kill a fly" skill level. Private contractors do not need to register to operate in Xanicea, but they still have to pay regular income taxes (71%, just like other workers) and do not get any mercenary discounts.

If so then how many private military companies are based in your nation?
Xanicea contains many mercenary groups. The total, based on census reports, is around 550 mercenary groups operating in Xanicea. The following comprise the top 10 list of most reliable/skilled mercenary groups:
  • The Blood Hounds
  • Redwater Mercenaries
  • Prometheus Protectors
  • The War Pigs
  • Alpha Company
  • The Confederate Marauders
  • Yamagashi International Defense Systems
  • H.I.E.D. Mercenary Contractors
  • Reginald's Raiders
  • Omega-Prime Agency

Private contractor groups are numerous, and will not be listed here. The total number, based on census reports, is around 1,500 private contractor groups operating within Xanicea.

Also are they allowed to operate tanks or other armed military vehicles?

Mercenaries: Operation of tanks and other military vehicles is legal, provided that the vehicles pass state code inspections and are not used on the road for miscellaneous use. Armed military vehicles are only permitted to be on the road during mercenary operations - and only when the operation is green-lit ahead of time (operation details need not be diverged to green-light an operation - the operation needs to be scheduled, however, to ensure traffic is not interrupted).

Private Contractors: Operation of tanks and heavy/medium armored vehicles is prohibited under Duma law. Operation of light vehicles (humvees, jeeps, armored cars) is legal but only with a permit from the government ahead of time (again, operation details need not be diverged as long as the operation is scheduled ahead of time to account for traffic diversions and delays).

Private military firms are rather common among the humans of Nohn. They are employed by private businesses to guard their factories, warehouses, and labs, or by communities to protect against insurgent syth attacks. Security is one of the largest, and best paying, industries in Nohn, and so a number of eager youth from around the world sign on for a chance to make a killing in the industry - pun intended. Of course, the Protectorate forces dislike these 'rival' organizations, as they represent a threat to their power, but they are protecting human interests and businesses, and killing syth, so for now they're tolerated.

There are about two dozen PMCs operating in Nohn at any one time, but the number is relatively fluid as companies merge or change hands, old ones are replaced by new ones by employers, et al. All PMCs must be authorized by the government of Nohn to operate within the Military Protectorate, as well as for the licence to use military-grade weapons and equipment. They may use tanks and helicopters as needed, but not jets - fighter craft are strictly the province of the Protectorate Air Forces.

Mercenary business in Terra Mariana is run primarily by the state. Volunteers from the army join up companies that are hired out to whichever foreign state is willing to pay the heavy price. The contractors must agree to pay Marian soldiers their salaries without delay, and to not involve them in any illegal acts such as war crimes. In addition to bringing the state a vast fortune, this practice ensures that Marian troops always have fresh combat experience, and the lucrative salaries, desire for adventure in foreign lands and most importantly, proving oneself in combat, ensures that volunteers are never lacking.

Non-state parties are also allowed to run a mercenary business, usually in the form of security service providing bodyguards and security for wealthy men and their businesses. The equipment that they may possess is solely limited by what they can afford to purchase, though in practice, few can afford the price tag of armored vehicles and helicopters.
