What is your nation's main mythological system? I mainly apply this to a certain God system (OOC: Greek/Egyptian/Norse Gods), but feel free to vary on the subject.
A long time ago, it was said that the pioneers that migrated into Vitius were watched over by the Council of Norgalsk, composed of five powerful and firm Gods. They taught the pioneers how to grow food in the harsh mountainous land, gave them weapons to defend themselves with, gave them farming grace periods, and most importantly, the Winter Berry, the most important crop in the long history of Vitius.
At this time, certain pioneers stood out among others. The Council of Norgalsk designated these certain pioneers as heroes. They were stronger than normal humans and had minor powers, such as the ability to weakly sway others into decision and the power to retain water and food longer than other humans. As the hero families grew older and older, some adapted to the powers and grew their strength considerably. Born to a third-generation was Voljr, a man now commonly called Akuma by the modern population of Vitius. Voljr was well-meaning as a child, and his family was quite well-off. He created the nation's fourth largest university (still in operation), the University of Cold Harbour. However, past the age of 41, he became obsessed with the ideas of rebellion and a world under his command. Using his power, influence, and corruption, he swiftly took the government down and proclaimed himself as Kami of Vitius; supreme ruler. The relatively small population of Vitius (at this time) could not prevent him from holding power. The High Priests asked the Council of Norgalsk to help stop the man. Though the Council was reluctant, Voljr challenged them in open defiance. As they began an epic battle, the Council found that the Orb of Ten, the source of their power, had been taken by Voljr when he previously raided the holy summit (location of the heavenly Council) one week beforehand. In a stunning victory, Voljr defeated the Council and became the true God of Vitius. He was an evil man, and killed off any whom despised him. However, one day, the family of Fuyu, a high priest whom previously worshipped the Council of Norgalsk, swiftly took the Orb of Ten from Voljr's highly guarded compound. They established themselves as the new Gods of Vitius and quickly took down Voljr.
The Fuyu Gods were made up of twenty Gods, whom eventually controlled important resources and powers all their own. Fuyu himself was established as the most powerful of the group. Vitius prospered under their divine rule; some of the greatest monuments of Vitius were built to honour the Gods.
However, though their rule over Vitius lasted for over six-thousand years, a new religion arose in Vitius: Judaism. Emperor Vyzel, a devout Jew, quickly ordered the temples and sacred sites to be torn down and the Gods to be erased from history. He was largely successful, and only a few artifacts remain from the time period. The Statue of Fuyu was protected by the priests of the Gods, and the Emperor lost many men trying to gain possession of the statue. Now a national monument, the Statue of Fuyu stands victoriously at a height of 345 feet, overlooks the bay of Cold Harbour from its mountain view.
Though Judaism trumps Fuyushun as Vitius's most practiced religion, Fuyushun still possesses 8% of the total population as devout worshippers. Voljran is still practiced by 1% of the total population of Vitius. Though the religion is dismissed as complete nonsense by the Vitius government, some say that the Eyes of Fuyu can still be seen looking out across Vitius from the sky. With dissent growing towards the government, and all of its practices (including the national religion, Judaism), Fuyushun and even Voljran are increasing in numbers, while Judaism continues to fall.
