Strange traditions in your country

Postby Naurobia » Wed Jun 01, 2011 2:17 pm

Are there any traditions in your country that would be regarded as strange in others? If yes then what are they? In some parts of naurobia people shave their eyebrows off during the hot months and instead just wear a head band to block out sweat from hitting the eyes. It is also tradition for both males and females to shave their armpits and widows peaks off if they have one. And in rural low class areas people shave their heads in the summer time.

In Gaiso, people traditionally alternate which side of the bed on which they place their heads on a weekly basis. This practice has been dying out due to it being considered unhealthy (potential Athlete's head and the like).

It is considered traditional to wrap your tail either around the tail or the body of someone you love. It's considered strange by outsiders mostly because said outsiders hail from species that lack tails (i.e Humans).

It's considered Traditional to leap up from your right foot before taking flight.
It's also considered mandatory, otherwise you will fall flat on your face if you try with your left.

After praising something, or predicting good fortune, or, in general, in any way acknowledging anything that ever goes right for them, Norvenians always say, "God be willing," or "Thanks be to God." To do otherwise, it is thought, is prideful and hubristic; traditionally, it was also thought to invite the jealous wrath of the Lord.

In Khanastan, some people in the tribal region still try to kill deathclaws and bring the hands to women they want to marry. But 4/5 end in death for the human. This is dying out because deathclaws are becoming increasing endangered.

Khanastan is an entirely fictional PMT nation somewhat similar to a larger, more free version of China. We are a massive federal representative republic of half a billion people with a self-sufficient, world-dominating economy. NS stats are not used. Use our Factbook instead.

Andonam celebrates a interesting holiday called Reverence for the Genes day. Not even everybody in the nation can fully celebrate it, as it requires your father to own a slavegirl and have conceived a female child on her (the same slavegirl must also have conceived you). Traditonally (if you can call a 50 year old nation as having a tradition), you are considered owner of you slavegirl sister for one day, and for that one day only you are to treat her with respect for the sake of your father's genes in her. However, if you have a brother, you have to compete in some manner for the honor on the day before, but the contest can be anything your father chooses. Last year, we had a father have his four sons compete in a gameshow for her... lets just say it got one of the highest ratings ever.
THIS IS PERSIA!

I do not personally share the veiws expressed by my nation. In reality, I am a Masculinsit, not a Chauvist. Andonam is created to act as a satire of modern feminist "theory". If you slap me, I maintain the right to slap you back;deal with it.

The traditions of the dead are viewed strange by some. When one dies all windows are opened, and mirrors are covered immediately to ensure the soul will be able to find it's way to the Otherworld (where all go after death). Then for a week a family member watches the dead body constantly, they may never take their eye of them (they take turns to allow sleep and eating) to make sure a evil daemon does not poses the body. After a week the body will be buried, as the soul will have made its way to the Otherworld, and no evil being will poses it.

In Demphor, katana snake hunting is a tradition.

Every week, The Valley of the Kings is opened to the public, and singers from all around sing the ancient songs of the Kings, the burial site is 1300 years old. People select a person from their clan to represent the Holy Church and walk down the main road, all to the Valley of the Kings, and then to the Valley of the Forgotten, the graves of past rulers.

Stellians have the tradions of the military ingrained into them.

One thing both Military and civilians like to do is sing the national anthem. Anywhere, anytime. If someone is heard singing it, most llikely someone else will drag out a milag and everyone will stop and sing to the flag. (The militay is practical when it says, do not stop to sing the anthem while in combat.)

Conservative clothes are mostly a tradition, but not a requirement.
It is a tadition for wives of returning soldiers/sailors to dress in the provacative dress they can find or that they own.(For reasons which date back very far in human history, think, the man hasn't seen his wife in a while....)
If a husband is greeting his wife then the man in question usually wears formal mess dress, decorated with the rank insignas of any rank below that of the returning wife.(For the humor of it, this was started when a returning Admiral was greeted by her husband(who out ranked her as the Admiral in Command of the Air Force) who was wearing the mess dress uniform of an Ensign.)

Military tradition dictates that any person who serves aboard the Supreme Commander warship can call her/him by their first name...
Unless your rank is that of Ensign(Navy and Air Force) or Lieutenant(Junior Grade)[For marines.]
Any non-commisioned personnel have to serve at least one deployment with the Supreme Commander before they may call him/her by their first name.

Military Police often lurk around the countries poorest area's looking for trouble, they often visit to blow off steam in the form of shooting criminal's for crimes against the state.

Czech Air-Force aircraft also have a tradition of bombing outlying villages in Occupied Poland to test their weaponry. The Polish state allows this as it gets rid of dissenting villages efficiently.
