Sports Riots In your nation

Postby Kalaspia-Shimarata » Wed Jun 01, 2011 4:37 am

Has there ever been any sports riots in you nation?
Basically, soccer riots but not only limited to soccer. Kalaspia-Shimarata has been playing thousands of types of native and famous sports for thousands of years and there is only one sports riot on record, in 1949, ONE year after the civil war (when the communist supporters were forsed into Shimarata and the anti-communists into Kalaspia) when Kalaspia was versing Shimarata in a soccer match and a Kalaspian player moved the goal out of the way so when the ball was about to go into it. The ball would have gone into it had the goal not been moved, however, the Kalaspian referee said that it is a no goal because:
1.The goal was moved to it's origional position
2.It wouldn't have gone in anyway
3.The score was 4-3 and Kalaspia was winning. Communists hate it when both teams don't have the same score (This would have been the goal which made it a draw)
4.The goal was moved by accident and therefore it shouldn't count
5.The goal keeper was waiting where the goal was before it was moved and would have caught it anyway (It has now been proven that the goal keeper would not have caught it)

You can see how this would cause controversy
Anyway, tell us about the worst sports riots in your nation!
Kalaspia-Shimarata's flag represents the Union between K&S. The dark blue represents the sea and the light blue represents the sky. In Kalashi language considers light blue and dark blue to be different colours. England colonised, and unified K&S, between 1774 and 1953, and English, light blue and dark blue are considered to be the same colour. Therefore, the contrast between dark blue and light blue represents the union, but the differences between K&S where as blue being two but simultaneously one colour represents K&S being two, but simultaniously one entity. The opposite to the symmetry represents the unity and indipendance of K&S, whilst also representing the Kalashi culture of opposite symmetry.KS is 75% Christian, hence the cross.

There are incredibly few, but if there are, the Samozniy Police Department (and by extension the Riot Team) are equipped with automatic combat shotguns, heavy SMGs and BTR-80 and BTR-90 armoured vehicles.

There has been one known case of a spectator having two of his teeth knocked out by another when they disagreed on a hixber polo game call.

There have been much larger riots at concert halls when a violin was poorly tuned or the soprano couldn't hit a high C. The latter occurred a month ago at the Rothermund National Opera House when sixty people descended on a soloist for a performance of Lakme, leaving her with her arms broken and her throat nearly cut (one tried to perform surgery on her vocal chords!), not to mention the set was demolished and four security guards had to take leave for a week due to various injuries.

Hey, their taxes pay for it, why wouldn't they riot?

Sporting events do tend to get a little hostile in Tsvarchi at times, usually during particularly important matches when the stakes are high, and during national championships.

Competition between sports teams are quite fierce and riots do happen, more among the Soccer teams than anything else. Though considering how strong our police are and the fact that Soccer's not a hugely popular sport here, those riots are rare.

Theres always trouble in local derbies in Matting.

Last week in the 'El derby' between El Casto and El Jasto, 2 El Jasto fans were taken to hospital with serious injuries. El Jasto scored a last minute winner and El Casto fans reacted, several of them managed to get into the El Jasto end and started a fight, they both ended up in hospital.

Luckily the police in Matting are very good, and when theres local derbies on, police do a check to make sure no violent weapons are being brought into the stadium.

Advice to tourists: Do not attend football matches between Pseudopolis United and Stadhamptom, Dimwell and Dolly Sisters, or West Areland football teams.

In 2004, Dimwell were winning 2-1 during the ArghNeedAName Cup semi-finals at a game in Mewberley Stadium. Then during injury time, Dolly Sisters scored two goals. Ouside the stadium, rioting broke out in which thirty-five people were killed (one was a reporter) and 327 were injured. Both teams made bonfires out of their opponents merchandise and somehow a number of buildings in the vicinity managed to catch fire as well, including a Metro station.

10,000 members of the City Watch (police) and 3000 Gendarmes, armed with dogs and water canons, were deployed in an eventually successful attempt to disperse the crowd.

The worst was in 1985 in West Areland, where tensions btween loyalist and secessionist movements came to head. In a match between Standfast Park (the Objectant Team) and Standfast Kaeltic (the Omnian team). The match opened with Objectants chanting "F**k Robbie Gravell" (a recently deceased hunger striker). It ended after 15 minutes when the lower level stands in the north east corner collapsed due to a stampede of incoming Park supporters, bringing down the upper level where Kaeltic supporters sat. 117 people were killed.

The most severe one on record was (if we're assuming sports-related) the most recent civil war, as then President Shabeen Ahmad II had led the country to rack and ruin while still finding time to manage the national team, albeit very badly.

The most severe riot caused directly by sport was just after the Eastfield Lodge national team's loss to Rejistania in the recent World Cup qualifying campaign, when several hundred spectators who were protesting against the ELFA's mismanagement broke into a nearby weapon store and stormed the headquarters of the organization. The band of rioters was led by a strange man by the name of Jose Miguel Planudes, who used to be the kit man for The Holy Empire team (the highest seed in our qualifying group). Due to his extra-dimensional nature, he was claimed to have been seen 965 times by investigators watching the CCTV tapes afterwards. Jose was found dead 15 different times, and a sixteenth version died under "questioning" (i.e. he was killed by a Dalek taking away all his brainwaves). Not long after, a person called "Joseph Michael", who looked very similar to Jose, became chairman of the ELFA and within a week, "Joseph" managed to bypass the security at one of EL's particle colliders and ramped up the power enough to cause a rip in the spacetime continuum, sending the whole Imperial Commonwealth out of reality.

We're a violent people, but we do want there to be a clear benefit to the violence we do. Getting scorched and dented for nothing, as would occur in a sports riot, isn't a thrill. Therefore, there is very little wanton fan violence in connection with sporting events.

The contestants, on the other hand, DO have a lot to gain by shooting down their competition. This means that competitive aerobatics shows, without proper rules and moderation, will soon become live-fire aerial dogfights. Spectators usually bet on who will break down and start blasting first.

Perhaps surprisingly, this never happens at the big Military air shows. This is likely because these shows aren't competitive; the Military always stands as one. Soldiers who are allowed to perform in shows are also very disciplined.

Gill United vs Supeda Mortoge - 21st March 2002. Soccer. Laddy's Home.

|GIL/3-2/SM|ZPL|01/02|

The strong Gill United side were drawing 2-2 with the bigoted Supeda Mortoge side. The game was getting close. With 3 minutes to go, both sides knew it would end like this.

With 20 seconds to go, Steve Gill crossed the ball into Eruvia and he scored a header. The Gill United fans went crazy. But the Supeda Mortoge fans threw bombs. 200,908 Supeda Mortoge fans were arrested that day, and the fans were banned forever. Eruvia was kicked in the shin by the Mortoge goalkeeper, and broke his leg that day. The keeper was given a 2 month match ban. The fighting was to get much worse.

Xanicea's most famous sports riot occurred after a League of Onyx match, when the champion (Alexi Borodin) and the challenger (Mikhail Xillov) were fighting for the Skull Cup and the title. The match was a stunning upset, with Mikhail gaining the upper hand immediately and KOing Alexi within only 30 minutes of the match beginning. Naturally, many fans of the sport (including Premier Ivan Vroronin) questioned the seemingly indomitable Mikhail, who was crowned champion much to the displeasure of Alexi and his fans only a few hours after the upset bout.

A few hours after his champion ceremony, Mikhail was tested for drugs alongside Alexi and it was found that during the fight Mikhail had somehow slipped in a tablet of stim powder and taken it, increasing his agility and reaction time and thus claiming the match for him. Alexi conceded defeat when he too was tested and found to have traces of stim in his blood (this was later rectified by Alexi's Coach, Ganel, as traces from when Alexi had been competing in the Mortal Kombat arena - where steroids were legal; this was proven by MK records to be the case and Alexi was pardoned).

The resulting riot from the announcement of Mikhail's illegal use of stims led to Mikhail's death at the hands of 450 angry Alexi fans. The riot also led to stricter policing of sports tournaments and stricter drug testing - with the Axiom Division of Mesa Verde Sphere being expanded to deal with the new issues (Axiom was originally founded to deal with violent protests and religious rioting, but now deals with sports riots as well).

The only sports-related riots in Turmoilandia are those that occur after the home team wins the championship.

There was also that time when the championship game of the High School Football Tournament turned into a brawl. All game long, both schools were playing especially rough. Eventually, a brawl broke out on the field during the 4th quarter, with the score still 0-0. This brawl spread into the crowd, as the fans of both schools began fighting the fans from the opposing school. It didn't help that the 2 schools are crosstown rivals who already didn't like each other. The television cameras broadcast the brawl to a national television audience until they finally postponed the rest of the game and ordered the TV cameras to be shut off. The next day, teachers and students arrived at each school to find that their school had been vandalized and looted. Order was eventually restored after the President took the unprecedented step of deploying the Army, which subdued the rioters without firing a shot.

In the long run, both schools took a major hit in reputation. Both schools were disqualified from the tournament and the teams they beat in the semis were allowed to play a new final. To prevent a repeat, rule changes were implemented to allow the referee to issue yellow cards (warnings) and red cards (ejections). Referees are also allowed to send players to a penalty box, which requires their team to play a man down for a few minutes. Both schools involved had to sit out of football for an entire season and their players were suspended from high school football for a year (even if they transferred to another school, not that they really could transfer, as other schools were not all that inclined to accept students from those schools). The TCAA decided to honor the ban and require all seniors from those schools to refrain from football activities for their first year of college (and the TFL refused to sign any of those players straight out of high school, so they couldn't go straight to the pros either). Both schools closed down for a few weeks for repairs, which they made up at the expense of the following year's summer vacation.

Many years later, there has never been a repeat of this event.

Thankfully guns are outlawed in Ma Raque and we have a, normally, very peaceful nation. However, every once and a while there will be brawls between rival fans of varying baseball teams, but the police stop those before they escalate
