The Education System of your nation

Postby Democratic Koyro » Tue May 31, 2011 10:51 am

pretty simple, explain the education system of your nation

in Koyro it goes like this

"Welcome to The People's Republic, Comrade", is the first "school" in the Koy People's Democratic Republic, it is essentially a mandatory day-care center for children aged 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, it looks after children, teaches them to walk and talk and anything else they must learn during this period, Children are also told stories about the Party and the Leader, Comrade Ohanka, to commence for full indoctrination

Key Skills Training center, This is the next step up, it is a primary school by todays standard, it teaches children key skills such as how to read, write, basic science, basic mathematics, art, revolutionary history and about the Ohankaist ideology, Socialism and the achievements of the great leader. it is for ages 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, at 11 children take a "your future in the People's Republic and our Revolution" test, which determins thier career at the end of school and sets the courses for thier next stage of education.

Introductionary Training center, This is where children start to learn about the key skills required for the career chosen for them through the "your future in the People's Republic and our Revolution" test, it teaches the skills needed for that career, for example those who will write for newspapers or work in the media will learn about creative writing and advanced language. those who will be mechanics will learn about different mecahnisms in vehicles, those destined for medical or scienctific careers will learn about maths and science ect. it is for ages 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16. It is also called "Cadet Training Center" for those destined for work in the Koy People's Liberation Army or the Police.

"Advnaced Training Center" this is like the Introductionary Training center, but continues on the subjects learned in the Introductionary Training center, it is for ages 17 and 18, after this, depending on the profession, students may leave and be assigned a position in thier pre-set career. For Example if a student is destined for a career in biochemistry, they will master biology and chemistry, meaning there is yet more specilization at this stage.

"Mastery Stage Center" This is the final stage in education, it is where students master the skills needed for thier career choice, much like university (or collage, in America). it is for ages 19, 20 and 21. students after this stage will be assigned a position in thier pre-set career, be allocated state-issued housing meaning they can leave thier parents home, recieves thier public-transporation pass and is entitled to recieve rationing tokens to aquire food and clothing. It is also called "Officer Training Center" for those destined to be Officers in the Armed Forces.

Throuihout these stages for 1 hour a day all students must learn about the Ohankaist Ideology, how Socialism affects thier lives and thier role in the State under Socialism. They also learn about the feats of the Socialist People's Revolutionary Party and the Feats of The Leader, Comrade Ohanka during this hour. Also another hour is allocated for fitness training, which is basically P.E.

From our wiki: http://www.nswiki.net/index.php?title=W ... #Education

Public education is free for all citizens, and private schools are also available. Primary schooling begins at age 6 or 7, and the first "path" testing begins in grade 5 (11 or 12 years of age). The aptitude tests recommend a path for the student to pursue later in their education, whether it be law, science, mathematics, teaching, data management, trade apprenticeship, or other pursuits. In the second year they choose second and third languages, though some students will already have some skills in some. In the 3rd year they begin to learn about history and social sciences, and begin learning more complex math. In the 4th year they learn more about their duchy and the people who live there. In the 8th year there is another round of testing, and when the results come back they are put on a path, which path is determined by them, their parents, and teachers together. At 17 or 18 they complete secondary schooling and are ready to move on.

Some students here will move onto apprenticeships and learn trades. In these apprenticeships, they are paid a meager wage, until they complete the apprenticeship and can earn full wages. If they qualify for school by meeting certain aptitude tests, they will owe no fee or payment for attendance and eventually receiving their degree. They may also pursue a masters degree or doctorate for free, though a second bachelors degree or additional masters or doctorate or similar degree will require they pay, similar to non-qualifying students. Students who do not qualify for free schooling must pay 1,000 dinars a year during their undergraduate education, and 2,000 dinars a year beyond that. More than half of students coming out of secondary school receive free schooling, and nearly all of the remainder do apprenticeships and move into the trades.

Playgroup/Nursery/Infant School: For young kids.

Junior School: For kids aged 4-9. The first year is optional, the others are compulsory. Children start learning the three R's with some time to play. As they go up through the school, they start studying other subjects like sciences, geography and history, and free time is phased out.

Middle School: For kids aged 9-13. Very much a transition between the two. All subjects are compulsory. Students end by taking an E-Level exam, to determine what the should do at Senior School.

Senior School: For kids aged 13-18. The first three years are compulsory, the other two aren't. Kids study a mixture of compulsory and optional subjects and in their third year take about 12 O-Level exams. Those who stay for the last two years choose 4/5 subjects and conclude Senior School by taking A-Levels, which are required for entry to University.

Further Education: The most prestigious place is University, but a College of Medicine or a College of Law can be just as good. A College is any institution that provides education to people above the age of 16 years, and they exist for technology, agriculture, teaching, medicine, vetinary practice, law, engineering, finance, business, etc. Alternatively is the Apprenticeship, training for blue-collar work.

In Turmoilandia, attending school is voluntary, but attendance rates are as high as 98%.

The first level of education in Turmoilandia is Pre-School. Pre-School goes from PS1-PS3. PS1 begins at age 3. Attendance at this level is quite low, estimated at below 50% even at the PS3 level. At the PS1 level, it is much lower than that. The Pre-School level is relatively basic, functioning primarily as a means of giving the kids a "head start" in the educational system. In general, enrollment at this age is limited to children from lower income families because we have found that this reduces the extent that they underperform.

Children begin Elementary School around the age of 6. This level consists of 1st through 6th Grade and is primarily focused around basic education.

Middle School consists of the 7th-10th Grades in Turmoilandia. These grades teach the more advanced subjects, ensuring that every Middle School graduate is proficient in math, science, Turmoilandian history, economics, Turmoilandian English, and the other academic subjects. Graduating from Middle School is considered the basic level of academic achievement in Turmoilandia.

High School begins with 11th Grade and lasts through 16th Grade. School attendance slips at this point, as just 40% of Turmoilandians go on to graduate High School. Most Turmoilandian High Schools have a vocational focus and attempt to train Turmoilandians for careers. Some High Schools have an academic specialty and focus on preparing their students for higher education, but these are the minority. In academic schools, students still receive vocational training and in vocational schools, students receive academic training. High Schools don't allow their students to specialize in a specific area, so graduates generally have a wide range of middle class job prospects.

Turmoilandian colleges accept students who have graduated from high school. Colleges are focused primarily on academics, although they offer degrees in a few professions as well (such as medicine and law). Only around 5% of Turmoilandians ever attain a college degree and less than 1% attain advanced college degrees. However, a college degree is virtually a requirement to gain admission into our upper class.

Turmoilandians generally cannot split time between school and work, just as Turmoilandian women cannot have both a career and a family. Therefore, Turmoilandians who wish to attain employment are expected to discontinue their education.

Education is valued greatly in Saurisia, as much as the Military and hard work. The average child usually learns to read at either three or four years of age. They typically start school at age five, beginning with Kindergarten, moving up one grade per year until they reach 12th Grad at age 17 from which they graduate from High School. Should fare poorly in a Grade, however, they are to repeat that grade again upon hope that they fare better. If they do not, then they are to repeat said grade again and again and again until they finally fare well.

The grades are arranged in three different School types. Kindergarten to 5th Grade is Elementary School, 6th to 8th Grade is Middle Grade, and 9th to 12th Grade is High School.

The typical subjects in Elementary School are:

English
Grammar
Math
Science
History
Geography
Art

The typical subjects in Middle School are:

-Basic Chemistry
-Basic Biology
-Basic Paleontology
-German*
-French*
-Spanish*
-Latin*
-Basic Dinosaur Physiology
-Basic Saurisian History
-Geography
-Advanced Arts
-Pre-Algebra
-Basic English

The typical subjects in High School are:

-Algebra
-Advanced Chemistry
-Advanced Physics
-Advanced Biology
-Advanced Saurisian History
-Advanced Geography
-Advanced Arts Studies
-Advanced English
-Advanced Paleontology
-Health Science
-Advanced Dinosaur Physiology
-Advanced German*
-Advanced French*
-Advanced Spanish*
-Advanced Latin*
-Linguistics*
-Calculus*
-Geometry
-Trigonometry*

(* means optional)

Choice is a major part of the Saurisian School System. A student and his/her parents are free to choose between taking Private School, Public School, and Homeschooling, all with their own benefits and downsides. The choices are to be made between the end of a school year and the beginning of a new one. If no choice is made in that time, the student sticks with his/her current school.

It does cost money to enroll a student into a school, usually 50 to 75 Dino Dollars for public school. However, this is all part of a culture which encourages hard work and perseverance to earn a living. The harder one works, the more they earn. The schools are the same way: those who work hard to get good grades are rewarded while those who are lazy or slack off are scorned and encouraged to cease their destructive behavior.

Discipline is a key part of the school system and those who are disobedient, goof off instead of doing their work, or disrupt the class are sent to detention, where they are forced to do nothing but the schoolwork they were supposed to do. Those who exempt bad behaviors are typically punished by a good paddling in Elementary School, though this is punished by Suspension in Middle and High Schools.

Overall, these ensure a good relatively well-behaved class who are encouraged to work hard to pass through school.

There are four parts of the Tsvarchivan education model:

Basic Education. The first year begins by gauging where the student is ability wise and their strengths and weaknesses, then they are placed in the appropriate levels for their skill and ability, at which point they progress through the stages and finish this segment of their education (it usually takes 10 to 12 years). This segment teaches them core skills such as math, reading, writing, science, and history, and other electives of their choosing. There are 10 levels of each core skill, and all must be passed in order to receive your BEC (Basic Education Certificate).

There are three choices for students after Basic Education:

Vocational Training: After Basic Education they can choose to go to a Vocational Training school and learn a skill or trade, and receive certification for specified career choices. These institutions do not hand out degrees.

College: After Basic Education most students will attend College, which offers two-year degrees for entry level positions in a myriad of career paths for individuals. This is usually supplemented by a University education.

University: After Basic Education many students, depending on career choice, may attend a University, which offers four+-year and professional/specialty degrees for those who wish to become professionals. Such schools offer degrees in medicine, law, science, business, and intermediate degrees which require a more comprehensive and thorough education.

The Tsvarchivan education model doesn't take into consideration the age of the student, but their ability and skills, and are placed in classes that correspond to their level, so they can progress through those levels so they're prepared for the next phase which they weren't previously ready to do. Classrooms are therefore mixed, with old and young people together.

There is no such thing as standardized testing, only a placement exam so they can be placed in the appropriate classes for their skill levels, and homework is almost nonexistent. Success or failure is firmly placed on the student, and if they choose not to read or review suggested reading material, that is their decision. There are a plethora of resources available to help students that have difficulties as well, and they are expected to use them at their own discretion if they are finding it difficult to understand something, and of course those with disabilities, mental, physical, or otherwise, are considered and there are resources to help them out as well; the Tsvarchivan education model leaves nobody behind.
