[STUDY] Does Your Nation Have Fine Arts?

Postby Demphor » Mon May 30, 2011 2:38 pm

Well, the question is above, does your nation have a law that requires schools to have bands, art classes, choral classes, etc. If not, would you establish one? If so, has it improved your education system, behavioral standards, and your students grades? Would you recommend it to other nations?

I'm also using it for a study, so if I could get feedback, that would be great.

The National Curriculum requires Junior and Middle Schools to teach Art, Drama and Music. Bands, orchestras, choirs, etc. are widely encouraged but never compulsory. In Senior schools, artistic subjects can chosen as an optional subject (students do four optional subjects).

Your nation and my nation have very similar curricular ideas, however, it's mandatory, and has shown to improve behavior.

Schools are encouraged to offer drama, art and music classes, but are not required to do so.

Fine Arts classes are a part of the national curriculum, but classes aren't required by the student to graduate unless it pertains to the program of study they've chosen to pursue.

No, but all schools nevertheless have them. They are voluntary, as if a student does not wish to participate, then he or she is free to not do so.

We voted for option 2: since much of education is run by the individual districts, there's no statewide policy. Visual art and music classes are common in elementary and middle schools, but more likely to be electives in high school. Elective musical performance ensembles are common in schools.

Students play in the band as part of their extra-curricular activities. Music and art classes are often included in curricula for the academic tracks but not the vocational and drill tracks, which focus on work skills. We believe that non-core subjects are a matter for the school to decide, and the nation doesn't micromanage this. We refuse, however, to recognize choir and band as subjects of their own - but rather as extra-curricular adjuncts to a comprehensive music program.

Renesai has fine arts in the sense that we fine artists heavily and regularly execute anyone deemed to be subversive.

All music, all art, and non-approved literature are banned in schools. Teaching such material is punishable by the death of not only the teacher, but the students who were exposed to this heresy. Thus, it is highly discouraged.

In education it is part of "Art and design", a mandatory part of the National Curriculum.

Schools don't really exist in our nation. However, our culture is very important, and music, writing, performance and visual arts are all very much alive and well among the people.

No, none of them are mandatory. 40% of private schools dont offer fine arts, 70% have it as optional subject. In public schools, they are optional subjects.

Visual and Performing Arts studies, and their requirement, vary from city to city. Trololopolis' curriculum is especially influenced by the Trololopolis Academy of the Arts, and students in Trololopolisian educational facilities are required to take at least six semester-units of artistic courses to graduate. Astleyville requires only two semester-units of artistic courses for graduation, while no other cities currently require any at all.

Primary school students are required to do music theory, as music is a important part of Cironic culture. The option of learning a musical instrument is openly encouraged. In junior high school, music is an elective and not compulsory, however, it is still a very popular subject. Students part of the music programme in junior high are required to play an instrument within school, as well as having music theory classes. In senior high school, instrumental and theoretical music is an elective and can be done as a subject for the national exam. However, learning a musical instrument without it being part of the national exam is also possible.

Primary schools also have an option of teaching either dramatic acting or visual arts and they must be compulsory. Both become electives in junior high, and becoming national exam subjects (only) in senior high.

Why the hell would our schools need something as useless as ART CLASSES?! Unless you mean martial arts, of course...

Asides from that, we teach our kids to sing patriotic songs and recite patriotic poems, and if somebody really wants to write, draw or make something patriotic, he's welcome to do that after school. But wasting state money on teaching kids something that eventually leads to sensuality and decadence...

In short, the only arts we Marians promote are the ones that make practical objects more appealing, say, metalworking that makes fine and ornate swords, guns, etc. Painting, singing and other useless pastimes have no place in our society, unless they help to promote patriotism and the glory of our great nation.

Pony schools have art classes, they aren't mandatory, but are encouraged to help colts and fillies find their talents.

Samuraikoku schools don't consider it mandatory to include art classes, but they are willingly taught and encouraged. Arts include calligraphy (Kanji), Music (Shamisen and Taiko drums, although there are more modern instruments), literature (Haiku poetry), and theatre (Nô usually for women and Kabukimono usually for men). And swordsmithing is ubiquitous.

Martial arts, however, are mandatory. And the whole country enjoys them, so they don't have any issue. 8)
