The Principality of Carvain is mourning the loss of Princess-Regent Katrina II (3 May, 1957- 26 May, 2011), today. The cause of death has been ruled, "Respiratory arrest." HRH Katrina II was the Daughter of Princess-Regent Katrina I and Prince-Consort Albert. Carvain has been ruled by Katrina II since 1991, when she assumed the role upon the death of her mother, who had ruled for almost 31 years. After laying in state for two days, the princess-regent will be buried at the Royal Observatory Cemetery.
As the death was so sudden, HRH never declared a successor. Her 28 year-old, and only, daughter, Princess Catherine, has refused to take the throne, setting the stage for a power struggle, Katrina II's husband, Prince Karl, having died five years ago. The House of Roedl has controlled the regency since 1800, but now, other noble houses are stepping up to take over the regency, including the House of Delphi, the House of Custer, and the House of Cleaves. The future of Carvain hangs in the balance.
