He was referring to The United States of America. Its main bulk is located on the continent of North American, south of Canada and north of Mexico. It is frequently referred to simply as America or the USA. Since there is no other UN recognized country in the world with the word America in its name, this almost never causes confusion except with the particularly dim-witted.

Really, the question in this thread is too vaugue to be used for much except for petty minded trolling as quoted above. However, one possible ranking system called the"Human Development Index" was created by the United Nations Development Programme. You can see this list on here.

On this list Zimbabwe is the lowest ranked, however you should note that some countries that are commonly considered terrible places to live such as Somalia and North Korea are not included due to lack of data.
