No it is a lobster

Anyway, no, we do not abduct innocent animals and genetically modify them. We macropodines find such acts to be unnecessary and cruel.

While animals are used in warfare, and we do genetically modify them via many processes, such as domestication, as well as genetic alteration, we would not choose to use the "biggest, toughest" animals for that, because, quite frankly, it's a bad idea. Firstly, no animal, no matter how modified, holds up very well when shot with a heavy machine gun. Secondly, when NOT being used in a war, you now have a very large, dangerous animal, with massive upkeep and containment requirements, that is liable to get loose and kill people. Given that more time is spent not at war than at war, and even a war, more time is spent not in combat than in combat, there is simply no sensible reason to maintain such a creature instead of a more sensible investment in war droids, which do not require feeding and confinement when not in use.

So while animals are used for war, we do not use war beasts. Rather, we use creatures such as mine-disarming rats: Small, mostly harmless animals with a taste for landmines. The landmines tend to react to being dug up, chewed, and rolled about by exploding and killing the rats, but we consider this acceptable.

Many scientists create these as a hobby. True, some get loose and eat people, but that is the price we will willingly pay for science. Most of them are one-offs, but some get adopted into the military. However we generally prefer automata to constructs because automata are more durable, easier to control, and can enter service more quickly.

Sgt. Pyotyr Kalenko of the 1st (and only) Sextopod Basilisk Cavalry has this to say about his steed:
"In the hands of a good rider a sebask [sextopod basilisk] can be just as effective as any automaton, and certainly faster. This beastie's grin will send even a brave man running, and if those spike teeth don't kill the enemy, then the venom will."

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.
