Floating Cities (Closed ATTN YellowApple)

Postby Kalaspia-Shimarata » Thu May 12, 2011 4:38 am

Dear whoever it may concern in YellowApple,
We have come up with a solution which we hope will benefit everyone wiith your floating cities. If you are within 300 nautical miles of Kalashi waters or Kalaspia-Shimarata's land border, it is required that:
1.Contact the Kalashi authorites when you are in this area. The telepphone number is (+15)1100 0000 1234 (Please note: +15 is the national calling code)
2.Get your alptitude between 1300-2000 meters as soon as possible (above ground/closest water) level
3.Remain a fair distance away from airports as we don't want collisions. You may float over heliports and helipads unless they will fly
4.You pay a fee of N$D1000 per year, regardless of how many times you enter
5.The law within the city, and the city only, not a meter above the heighest point, not a meter below the lowest point shall remain your land
6.If there is anything you do not agree with, please, fell free to tell us in this thread and we'll try to compromise in this thread!
Kalaspia-Shimarata's flag represents the Union between K&S. The dark blue represents the sea and the light blue represents the sky. In Kalashi language considers light blue and dark blue to be different colours. England colonised, and unified K&S, between 1774 and 1953, and English, light blue and dark blue are considered to be the same colour. Therefore, the contrast between dark blue and light blue represents the union, but the differences between K&S where as blue being two but simultaneously one colour represents K&S being two, but simultaniously one entity. The opposite to the symmetry represents the unity and indipendance of K&S, whilst also representing the Kalashi culture of opposite symmetry.KS is 75% Christian, hence the cross.

To the Authorities of Kalaspia-Shimarata:

We have received your messages, and thank you for your willingness to accommodate our flight paths. Please note the following:

[list]
[*] Our cities generally travel no lower than 20 kilometers above sea level.
[*] The fees will be wired annually to the agency you specify.
[*] We would like to note that the effect of our passing on your national economy would be profoundly positive, provided our citizens are permitted to visit your nation's businesses (of course, they will be expected to comply with Kalaspian-Shimaratan immigration laws and regulations). We of course welcome any Kalaspian-Shimaratan in YellowApple.
[*] YellowApple has adopted VoIP as standard protocol for voice communications. Thus, although it is possible to make calls to traditional phone lines, it is relatively inefficient, and thus we suggest the use of a digital connection. We can be reached at doir.gov.ya:5060.

We look forward to doing business with you, and hope for peace and prosperity between our nations.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Beacon
Chief Secretary, YellowApple Department of International Relations

-For starters, our people are called Kalashi and not Kalaspian-Shimaratan
-If possible, please remain above the aeroplanes
-Thank You for compling with the fees!
-We will be willing to allow your business men and women into our nation. IF (and only if) the city is above Kalashi land or in our water borders of 300 nautical miles (since that is our territorial waters), travel visas will be half price
-Although a PMT nation, this technology is still under development. We expect the technology to be complete in 2 weeks. Till then, you will have to use the current technology, sorry!

Given that the typical cruising altitude of most commercial and military aircraft is no more than 18 kilometers, we should be clear of Kalashi air traffic. We also note the corrected Kalashi demonym, and will be adding it to the YellowApple Directory of National Demonyms and Descriptive Adjectives.

We also appreciate your nation's willingness to cooperate with YellowApplan businesses, as well as the willingness to adopt digital voice communications. If desired, the YellowApple Department of Telecommunications would be happy to transmit technical documentation on our own VoIP systems, as well as contribute telecommunications engineers to assist in the deployment of Kalashi digital telephony systems.

Thank you for your understanding! We'll be happy to allow your telecommunications people come and help us. (An OOC description would be great to) with our VoIP but wish to also keep our traditional systems too!

Excellent. We will deliver a crew of 25 telecommunications engineers during our anticipated arrival in Kalaspia-Shimarata. This crew will also be accompanied by 10 linguistics analysts to optimize Kalashi audio communication systems to both the Kalashi and Shimaratan languages, as well as collect data on both languages to compose a tri-directional translation dictionary for reference by the citizens of both our nations.

1.The languages are called Kalaspian and Shimaratan. There is no language called Kalashi
2.Thank You! But can I please get an OOC description of VoIP?

OOC:

First, duly noted.

Second, the system is similar to Skype or Google Voice, but more standardized. Since each YellowApplan citizen and household has a unique subdomain in the YellowApple domain tree (e.g. JohnDoe.Household.citizen.ya), every YellowApplan citizen is accessible through YellowApple's domain tree. Port 5060 is used for receiving VoIP calls (e.g. JohnDoe.Household.citizen.ya:5060), while 5004 is used for placing calls (e.g. JohnDoe.Household.citizen.ya:5060). Most VoIP clients in use in YellowApple will automatically add the port number to the destination, so that the person placing the call only needs to know the recipient's identifier (and household, if calling a residential landline).

The Wikipedia article has useful information about VoIP in general, such as how it's typically implemented in home networks. YellowApple uses VoIP mainly because every residence has a government-subsidized internet connection. YellowApple, at least, routes calls to "analog" phone lines using its International Calling Service, suffixing a traditional phone number (with country and area codes, and without parentheses, dashes, or spaces) with ".phone.ya" (so, 18661234567.phone.ya). Older handsets work with systems similar to MagicJack, which relay the analog phone signals over the internet.

Hope that all helps. If you have any questions, feel free to ask :)

So it is like Skype? I DO know what Skype is!

Yup. Skype is just a popular VoIP program. YellowApple's system is like Skype, but creates a standard, open method that any software can implement (partly for efficiency, and partly because closed-source software - like Skype - is outlawed).

Why is Skype banned? But anyway, I get the message!

Kewl. And Skype would be banned in YellowApple because it's "closed-source" software; in order for software to be legal in YellowApple, its human-readable source code must be made freely and publicly available and well-documented, and released under an "open-source" license. So, software must be open-source software or, ideally, Free and Open-Source Software.

OOCly, Torvaldsville, one of YellowApple's major cities, is a shout-out to Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux (the most popular operating system that is completely free and open-source in all instances). ICly, it's a tribute to his work and the open-source movement as a whole.

If you haven't noticed, I'm a computer tech major :D

That sounds fun. I actually rely almost exclusively in public transportation to get around. My school offers really cheap semester-long transit passes valid for all the bus systems and lightrail trains throughout the Sacramento, CA area :) Too bad it really sucks where I live, as buses will rarely arrive on time (and sometimes won't arrive at all).
