U Say Potato, I Say Tater: Politically Correct Euphemisms

Postby GOLTZBORG » Fri Apr 22, 2011 2:23 pm

OOC: IT'S ALL IN THE WAY IN WHICH YOU SAY OR USE THE WORD
( general terms apply, things are not always black & white, but more in shade(s) of gray/grey )

After WWII, the US govt changed the name of the Dept of War to the Dept of Defense; which was due to the fact that the term or view of being "politically correct" was becoming the right way of publicly conducting things within the govt.
( i.e. in the new age....always be seen as being the victim, and not so much the villian )

Euphemisms are society's way of allowing, or accepting, an image that is unpleasant; such as in the case of the name of the Central Intelligence Agency; whereby, the word "intelligence" is much more accepted than what that agency actually does...i.e...it "spies" on governments and people all around the world...including American people, and that agency is well known to conduct it's missions of spying with "extreme mean" means and measures.
( Note: that agency also conducts other missions, which are much more positive operations )

===================================

QUESTION:........ :?: ..........

What are some of the most popular or common euphemisms / "politically correct" expressions known within your nation's government, or within your nation's social orders ?

Example in Goltzborg:................>

In Goltzborg, the term to "cleanse the indigenous personnel completely", does *NOT* mean
to "wash the local people thoroughly with soap & water"; but instead, actually means:......>
to "exterminate the local people with extreme prejudice".
( i.e. the word "cleanse" leaves a lesser negative tone, than does the word "exterminate" )

NOTE: More times than not, a person will overlook an issue if he or she isn't over whelmed by a word or a phrase; which is exactly what most governments and corporations want and hope for.

Our politically incorrect euphemisms are more interesting. Such as "dropping a turk" for a bm.

Edit: Turks were for centuries our prime and most hated/feared enemy. Not anymore, and we've tried to repair relations, which is why it is politically incorrect.

We only use "politically incorrect" euphemisms to try and disguise secret government activities.

Fatatatutians aren't much for political correctness. If you follow the example of former Foreign Minister Harlan Escrow, the proper form of address for a foreign dignitary is You Ignorant Bastard.

We don't sugar coat our words, but we don't do actions that require sugar-coating. We do not shy away from insulting people when we feel it is necessary; when talking with foreign diplomats, we will most likely refer to them as Barbarians at-least three times in the discussion. I, as Foreign Minster, have insulted more nations than I care to count, without any silly euphemisms or sugar coating.

Politically incorrect? What so like death to niggers?

Can't you just call them Operation Swift Deployment or something?
we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. We need new noise and new voices and new canvases to become something more than the last poets of a useless generation.

We prefer subtle insults when dealing with other nations, although the previous regime loved to use euphemisms when dealing with the populace. For example, "intellectual restructuring zones" were re-education camps, "annelid removal programs" were capitalist and religious purges and when a government official "died in their sleep due to an unknown cause" it really meant that they fell out of favor and they were sent to a gulag/death camp.

SAIDE seems to use the Words Purge and Insects quite alot. Example:

"Purge the sphere of these Insects"

It ACTUALY means: Burn everyone on the planet from orbit, and not Clean a Ball covered in Bugs.

But, we do have to sometimes. Alot of people have died that Way. Example:

SAIDE to the Cleansing Drone "Purge this Sphere of Insects!" as she hands a golden ball covered in dead bugs.

The people who Control the Arc misenterpret, and actualy murder a planet of Drones.
Let me see those hands!

Actually, in YellowApple, "cleanse the indigenous personnel completely" does in fact mean "wash the local people thoroughly with soap and water." The filthier and less civilized peoples who often clamor to be taken to our "City of Angels" (the statistically most common nickname for any of our cities) require extensive deep cleaning with antibacterial soap, lest they become a health hazard.

"Involuntary Servant" = "Slave"
"Threatening Criminal" = "Any criminal whose rights to citizenship were revoked"
"Voice of YellowApple" = what The Administrator figures his people would really want and need, regardless of if they specify otherwise.

In most situations, "beating around the bush" is seen as deceptive, and may actually result in arrest on suspicion of malicious behavior.

Such euphemisms are frowned upon in Turmoilandia. Probably the only one I can think of off the top of my head is the name of the Moderate Party. There is nothing "Moderate" about this left-wing party. The hard-right Freedom Party is now the largest party in the Legislature after a shocking election result with the center-right Patriotic Conservatives a close second and the Moderates as the smallest party.

To "Defend the cause of Liberty" means to annihilate a would-be conquistador's military.
But like many nations above, it's our politically incorrect terms that are interesting. For example, "Civilised" is an insulting term used for particularly smug and supercilious foreigners, frequently just before they get their come-uppance at the hands of our landscape or climate.
