Characteristics vs Caricatures of Your People

The general characteristics of a people, race, or culture are usually ( not always ) grounded to a great degree in the location where a people live; such as, darker skinned people tend to live in climates which are hotter, and where sunshine prevails; whereas, lighter skinned people tend to live in regions of the world which are cooler, and where the sun doesn't have as great of an impact on a person's complexion and physical tone.

On the other hand, a caricature of a people, race, or culture is usually ( not always ) founded in various beliefs; which may, or may not, be valid to some degree, and which may include, but not be limited to: bias, religion, history, economics, racism, rejudices, etc.

Comparing your people's actual physical characteristics against any known caricatures most commonly associated with your people, that have the origins of said caricature(s) created by other people from other lands, what are the most misconceptions between the actual / factual physical characteristics of the people of your nation and the created caricatures of your people ?

Caricature: Our people are Dinosaurs

Characteristic: Some of us are Dinosaurs, but others are also Pterosaurs, Marine Reptiles, Lizards, Crocodiles, Dragons, Snakes, etc.

fiction = other people make fun of our people and say that we all have eyes that are slanted and seem to be very narrow

fact = but actually we squint our eyes do to the bright sunshine in our country

Caricature: A group of herdy derdy communist Dragons who like to worship a pointy rock and kill humans.

Characteristic: A group of not so-herdy derdy Xenophobic Dragons who worship the monolith, they are extremely devoted to Communism.

In the case of Coccygians, Characteristics and Caricatures are pretty much the same thing. People who've never been here think we're making stuff up about ourselves.

Caricature: We're all red kangaroos (thanks to the fact that the red kangaroo is better known than other kangaroos due to their often depiction in works of fiction)

Characteristics: While there is a sizable red kangaroo population, especially in the south-east. They only take into account about a quarter of the population. The remaining part of the population being Eastern Greys, Western Greys and Antilopine kangaroos. With a small amount of the population being human and other non-macropod sapient species.

Fiction:Dreamers living under an oppressive tyrant who isn't like me and therefore is automatically evil.
Fact:Siorafrica is governed well and is a technologically advanced country with well above average IQs.

Perception: Slothtonians are overweight and lazy hedonists.

Reality: Slothtonians are overweight and lazy hedonists with hearts of gold...

The perception is that our people are all quiet, almost mechanical people with little sense of individuality who simply bow our heads and say "yes sir" to authority. The truth is that we have many festivals, and alcohol has been ingrained in our culture for over a thousand years. While the people tend not to party all that hard aside from on certain holidays, these holidays are enshrined in law and festivals are taken rather seriously.

At the same time dissenting opinions are many, though in general the people tend to favor peace and stability, as overall respect for the royal family is as high as it has ever been, so "revolutionary" movements tend to be met with disdain by the general public.
